Avis sur Katagiri New York
Katagiri is close to Grand Central Station and offers Japanese grocery items prepared foods like onigiri, bento boxes, takoyaki, and more. a small, clean, organized space—packed with a lot of Japanese items. stopped here recently and picked up some dumplings as a snack and they hit the spot. definitely worth a stop by if you want something sweet or savory. service is fast and friendly.
Here, you will find delicious onigiri with the most variety of options that I have ever seen/enjoyed outside of Japan. Salmon, spam, scallop, tuna, plum, chicken…large in size, plentiful filling and fantastic value !
Excellent Japanese grocery next to Grand Central Station. Wide variety of prepared foods, fresh ingredients and more. And friendly staff. Need to visit more often!
I visited Katagiri on 370 Lexington Ave, and although the store is small, the quality of the food is truly exceptional. I originally went there for their onigiri, and it turned out to be incredibly delicious and surprisingly inexpensive. Honestly, it was the best onigiri I’ve ever had in my life—perfect texture, perfect seasoning, and genuinely authentic, just like the ones you’d get in Japan. Their sushi and prepared foods are also top-notch, made with care and great ingredients despite the store’s compact size. If you’re looking for authentic, high-quality Japanese food in New York, this place is an absolute must-visit.
Basic necessities, some snacks, good quality meat and fish. It’s a little outside of my everyday route so I don’t come in as often as I wish… But always great to visit. And I always buy their onigiri — they’re the best.
Great for quick grocery, lunch, snack and treats! Raw Seafood bowl was good ~ The rice in the bowl was seasoned like sushi rice! Yummm Will have to try all other bowls ~ Line can be super long but goes very fast because the staff are efficient and organized!
Great Japanese grocery store! They have an onigiri station and ramen station making fresh food daily! They also have a great selection of other snacks, drinks, and other cooking items. I stopped by for some of their fresh sushi and onigiri, very affordable pricing. It gets quite busy during lunch rush so just a word of caution. Don't wait too late in the day to stop by for fresh food because they might run out of your favorite. Get here early!!
As a NYC visitor, I visited 2 Japanese Supermarkets & this one definitely has better selections & price. Foods ready to go are also available. They have sushis, Pokebowl, Onigiri, Ramen, warm dishes, etc. They also have my fave Matcha Kitkat & my daughter's fave tofu skin with seasoned rice for her lunch box. Got 80% of supplies that i needed.
Katagiri is a fantastic one-stop shop for a wide variety of daily Japanese snacks, drinks and even common grocery store items all at fanastic prices considering their location in NYC. While appearing rather small they have a fantastic selection and they use the space well with tall shelving! They often have sales and specials in a certain section in the middle of the store. Along with their pre-packaged hot or cold meals, they have a ramen shop and a separate Onigiri shop inside. The Onigiri are all made on-site, with a fantastic selection of different fillings all very well priced. I cannot recommend this place enough, especially this location if you're coming from Grand Central right around the corner. You'll find yourself coming back for sure!!
Katagiri has been open since 1907 and is the oldest Japanese grocery store/market in NYC - you can read the history of the store on their website. They have two stores (the other is on E 59th) and neither one is particularly big. The Grand Central store carries almost everything you would need to make Japanese dishes, but the produce section is limited. Somehow, they manage to cram outposts of Omusubi Gonbei and Brooklyn Ramen into the store as well. I’ve never tried the ramen, but the omusubi are made fresh with rice from Hokkaido and are quite good with an interesting assortment of fillings. The fresh fish/seafood and sushi/sashimi takeout is outsourced to Osakana, which is based in the East Village. In addition, they also carry their own range of various take-out bento which are kept warm and priced well. If you are looking for some good, quick Japanese take-out, Katagiri is a great option in the Grand Central area. The only downside is that there is no seating, but when the weather is nice, you can walk over to Bryant Park and enjoy your meal there. Otherwise, you can always go to the dining concourse at Grand Central.

The Ramen here is awesome! They have 4 or 5 stools to eat in, but its more of a carry out deli...and a ton of great beverage options which are HALF the price of the stores in the immediate area.
I usually go there everyday for rice balls the one with oysters are delicious and they have fresh to go sushi sometimes lines get really long during the peaks but this little supermarket is good for people who’s working around this area but sometimes need to check a expiration date on food just to be sure
I bought some chocolate at a store on 41st Street the day before yesterday, but it seemed like it had melted and then solidified again. Since it was on sale for about 50 cents, I guess I shouldn't complain. I bought five pieces and opened two, and they were both like that.
