I had a wonderful dining experience at Wokuni. The restaurant has a really nice ambience — modern, comfortable, and perfect for both casual dinners and slightly more special occasions. From the moment you walk in, the space feels polished but still very welcoming. We started with miso soup, which was warm, balanced, and exactly what you want to begin a Japanese meal. I also had pineapple juice, which was fresh tasting and refreshing, especially alongside the food. For appetizers, the mackerel starter was excellent. It was flavorful, fresh, and prepared very well. You can tell the ingredients are high quality and handled with care. For the main meal, we ordered a sushi platter and sushi rolls, and both were fantastic. The fish was fresh, the rice was seasoned perfectly, and the presentation was clean and elegant without being overdone. We also tried the chicken soup, which was comforting and flavorful — simple but done really well. It added a nice balance to the meal alongside the sushi. Service was smooth and attentive without being intrusive, and everything came out at a nice pace. Overall, I really loved both the food and the atmosphere. It’s a great spot if you’re looking for quality Japanese food in a relaxed but stylish setting. I would definitely come back again.

Really fresh fish! Definitely come here for sashimi and sushi. Wasn’t personally a fan of hamachi carpaccio and I’ve had better agedashi tofu (although this one is still good) but the Monday sushi set was amazing and the fish for the hotpot was also sushi grade. All in all we left here feeling full and satisfied. One small thing is that we asked for good seating in our reservation for a special occasion, but we didn’t get that.

Came for lunch and loved the variety of options available, the fish was very fresh. I'm not really much of an oyster guy, but these are changing my mind, recommend getting. A very nice cosy interior with ample seating, and service was on point as well.

My friends and I had a wonderful experience at Wokuni. Love the warm ambience and high ceiling, really nice elegant vibe. Attentive services and the food was fantastic. The four of us opted for the Sushi Omakase, absolutely refined freshness taste on the sushi. It was a very delightful and delicious meal. Highly recommended and I would definitely be back again!

We went to WOKUNI for dinner and had an excellent experience. We ordered a variety of sushi, and my favorites were the caviar and the uni, both incredibly fresh and flavorful. We also enjoyed an amazing dessert, and the sake was outstanding. The service was friendly, attentive, and really elevated the whole evening. Highly recommend!

Wokuni serves excellent Japanese cuisine at reasonable prices. The restaurant is about a 10-minute walk from Grand Central Station. It is recommended to make reservations for weekday lunch. We had been eyeing their Osashimi Teishoku (limited to 5 servings daily) and the Wokuni-Don (limited to 8 servings daily) on our last 4 visits but it was always sold out shortly after the restaurant opened at 11.30am. We finally managed to order the 2 dishes today. Both dishes were excellent. The sashimi was fresh and came in generous portions. The tempura was delicious (lightly battered and not oily.) The service is always very friendly and efficient. Our server today was Manisha and she was very prompt in placing our orders before they ran out.

Wokuni delivers incredible Japanese food across the board — both the yakitori and the sushi/sashimi were excellent. We were tempted by the osusume special, but honestly the sushi platter and 5-kind sashimi turned out to be great value on their own. Everything was exceptionally fresh. The space itself is beautiful, and we lucked out with a booth, which made it easy to actually talk and enjoy the meal without shouting over anyone. Overall, a standout spot for high-quality Japanese dishes — fresh fish, solid yakitori, and a warm, polished atmosphere. Would happily go back.

Quite crowded for a weekday lunch. Ambience appears upscale and chic. The daily specials were all sold out by 12.30pm. Had the bara chirashi don lunch set which came with miso soup and salad. Added on ikura. Fish was amazingly fresh and worked well with the avocado and Japanese egg cubes. I’m reminiscing of my lunch there. Was one of my best Japanese meals in the city and I need to return soon. Portion was large enough I didn’t feel hungry leaving the restaurant. Pretty good value. Waitstaff was okay, friendly enough.

Tuna experience is a 10/10! They are fantastic hosts, the whole production is very entertaining and impressive. We bid on the tuna cheek and eye and got both - one tip is that people up their bids last minute so be wary. They honored our second highest bid even when someone tried to outbid us once the auction had closed, was very kind of them. I also recommend requesting to sit at the bar for the auction as you receive a lot of attention from both the host cutting up the tuna as well as waiters for the service. The waiters, staff and hosts were all top notch - very personable and kind. I brought my boyfriend for his birthday and he had the best time. This is a fabulous date or gift experience.

Go early for the Wokuni Don. The fish is incredibly fresh and tasty. For the price and quality it’s a must have at lunch. Go early as there are only limited quantities. Portions are good, service is quick and friendly.

Great place. I truly enjoyed the quality and presentation of food. Everything was fresh, tasty and beautiful. The atmosphere is so pleasant. The entire place brings you Asian vibes. Additionally, on a Saturday for lunch, I did not need reservations for 3 ( last minutes reservations can be challenging but this place was great). We all were satisfied with the entire experience. We probably spent more than 2 hours there and never felt they were rushing us. The price was also a positive point of our visit. I highly recommend this place. On a totally side note, the charge of my friend's cellphone was super low and as a surprise, the server told us about they having a charging station. I give a 10/10 for the place, service and food!

I’m not an Asian food connoisseur and don’t usually go to Asian restaurants, but this place is special. A true gem. The sushi is exceptional and so were the noodles. Ambience and service were great too. I ended up going 2 days in a row 🤌🏻😊

Lunch great! Love chirashi. Shame some runs out fast. ----- Used to come more often to Eastside... when working for Japanese firm... Sushi Yasuda, etc... One of the best.. especially after Sushiden's gone. Like Sushi Ann, Hatsuhana, Hakubai as well as Sushi of Gari's too. But, not as of a fan for Sugarfish. Here.. tall ceiling, good decor of woods, Japanese tiles, ropes... ambiance with bar full of Japanese sake and beer welcoming. Food excellent. Both mix of generous portion as well as high quality pieces. $150 omakase not the only option... thus, wide spectrum from Sushi enthusiasts as well as casual drinking, tapas-like scene. Love dashi mini pot. Can't resist refill. Always end up ordering more... but, eat all... Arigato

Cool place for dinner. Prices are a bit on a higher end, but still affordable. The food was amazing. Definitely worth a visit.

Came here after a long day of work because I wanted to treat myself and WOW. I was not disappointed. I am healed. Ordered the salmon hitsumabushi (salmon sashimi with salmon flakes and fried salmon skin). The very patient, exacting server explained how to eat it: plain, then with toppings and finally with dashi broth. Extremely simple and satisfying. I can't wait to come back!

Really enjoyed this lunch set. The sashimi was fresh and well-cut, and even the sushi rice stood out—warm, well-seasoned, and perfectly cooked. Service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Everything felt thoughtful and well-prepared. Would definitely come back.

Excellent! Amazing execution of a menu that scales from affordable to Manhattan-night-out. My wife and I were perfectly happy making a meal of some tapas-sized dishes and the (truly excellent) duck entree, along with some Happy Hour drinks; we left, very happy, very well fed, and with our wallets intact. But if you’d like to take that up a notch, this restaurant will be happily to take you to some impressive heights.

Updated Feb 2025: Exceptional Japanese food. The sushi was amazing, the tempura items were the best and the cocktails are superb. The service is super friendly and warm, right from the receptionist to bartenders to wait staff. They help with menu suggestions too. The quality of fish is amongst the best, rivals top places in Japan. The presentation is fabulous and everything tastes very nice! A must try place for any Japanese food lover. Original Nov 2023: Very nice sushi restaurant which does a live Tuna cutting experience every month (3rd Tuesday of each month). Make reservations and tell them you are interested in seeing the Tuna slicing. The food is good, fish is fresh with many of the usual options. The rice seems a bit off for me, lacks enough vinegar and is super white in color. The rolls, sashimi, sushi and tempura items are super nice. The chicken karage, shrimp tempura and O Toro is exceptional. The Medai nigiri was ok. The liquor selection is superb. Yamazaki’s, Hibiki and Hakushu (including 18’s). A wide selection of high end Sake with a few sake flights. The lychee martini is exceptional. They have a regular bar to sit and also a sushi bar. The service is very friendly and prompt. A must try place for some good sushi. 🍱 🍣

We were recommended this restaurant by a couple girls that we met after the Rangers game, and it couldn’t have been a better recommendation! The atmosphere was gorgeous. The staff was friendly and the food was phenomenal!!! 10/10 recommend & will be back again next time in NYC!!!

Couldn't be happier we chose this place out of all nearby sushi places. Attentive courteous knowledgeable servers? Check! Fresh food and prompt service? Check! Great warm atmosphere and design? Check! Nice sake collection plus they have some seating at a chef's station where you can watch food being plated. Atmosphere was mostly afterwork crowd and not overly loud. The fatty tuna was amazing. Not so crazy overall for Japanese desserts but that's my personal preference.

Wokuni was a great spot for dinner with friends. We had a really cute booth with plenty of space. The food was smaller plates so you definitely need to order a good number of dishes to be full. But I will say that the fish was really fresh and delicious. The drinks were also really good and our waiter was very friendly. Definitely worth checking out!

This restaurant is a true culinary delight! From fresh sashimi and sushi to grilled fish and seafood dishes, every bite is a burst of flavor and freshness. The quality of the seafood is outstanding, with each dish showcasing the natural flavors of the ocean. The service is impeccable with attentive staff who are knowledgeable and accommodating. They ensure a pleasant dining experience with prompt service and personalized recommendations. Overall, this restaurant is a must-visit for seafood lovers seeking a top-notch dining experience.

Had the Omakase special. First course was Amber Jack and Salmon. They seamed a bit old and a bit slimy. Second main was three white fishes all delicious. The next was 3 tunas; also good. The next squid- awful. Uni domestic tasted minerals not like butter. Scallops ok. Tuna roll ok, soup was a light broth with a few noodles. Dessert was bean dumpling, green tea mochi and a little whipped cream. Dance music was playing but not too loud.

This Japanese restaurant consistently delivers an outstanding dining experience with impeccable service and top-quality cuisine. As a regular customer, I am always impressed by their commitment to excellence, from their fresh sushi sourced directly from their fish farm in Japan to the perfectly grilled hamachi collar. The agedashi tofu is a comforting delight with its crispy exterior and silky interior, while the matcha and mochi ice cream is the perfect sweet finish. Our go-to sake, Dassai Nama, pairs beautifully with every dish. A unique recent addition to their sushi counter is a silent fish auction screen above their sushi bar counter was a nice touch. Their happy hour drink specials and Arigato set (fried chicken or oyster with Edamame) are a great deal and delicious 😋

Nice space and professional service, but I found it overpriced for what it is. The food was good, not exceptional relative to the price point in NYC. It also feels more commercial than many Japanese restaurants here. Wokuni is part of a large Japanese restaurant group that farms and distributes its own fish, and the place comes across more like a polished concept built to scale than a chef-driven spot. Overall it reminded me of a high-end Vegas-style restaurant: slick, competent, but not somewhere I’d go out of my way to return to given the prices.
