NY Dosa is one of those classic Washington Square Park spots that never disappoints. I had the masala dosa and it was very good crispy, crunchy, and fairly large for the price, so you definitely get good value. The chutney was really flavorful and paired perfectly with the dosa. The guy running the stand was super friendly and welcoming, which just adds to the whole experience. Simple, tasty, and always a solid stop when you’re in the park.

I was looking forward to trying this small food truck for my entire 6-day trip! We found his hours on Instagram and went on my last day. The man running it was so kind and friendly. The dosai itself was exceptional, would definitely recommend!

July 2023: Note : Suggest to check the Instagram account to confirm that they will be open. Stopped by for lunch on a Tuesday. Split the masala dosa and the pondicherry. I have had a lot of masala dosas in the past but this is the first time I've eaten a pondicherry. Both were absolutely fantastic! I was really impressed with the pondicherry. The green pepper 🫑 and carrots 🥕 bring the flavors to a new level 😋. The wait is a bit long but totally worth it! Thank you for an absolute treat! Will definitely be back again for more delicious food!

This is the best deal in town. Thiru is a Washington square park institution ! People come from far and wide to interact with thiru and get their hands on the amazing dosas made in front of their eyes ! And easier to get a table compared to Semma, but not by much. Just get get in line and pray to the gods that he doesn't run out, but he usually gives fair warning

Came across this by chance and read 'gluten free and dairy free' perfect for me. $10 got me a plate of food. Absolutely worth the wait in the queue. Was listened to when I asked about spice. Would highly recommend. Yum.

Pondicherry Perfection! Forget fancy restaurants! The best dosas in NYC are coming from this unassuming food truck, and the Pondicherry Crepe is an absolute must-try! Let's talk about the crepe itself – perfectly crispy, yet tender, with that signature dosa tang. BUT, the real magic is inside. The Pondicherry Crepe is a flavor bomb: a delightful blend of spices, vegetables, and a certain je ne sais quoi that transports you straight to India. It's complex, satisfying, and utterly addictive. Beyond the incredible food, the team running this truck is phenomenal. They are so passionate about their food, eager to share their knowledge, and incredibly kind. Their enthusiasm is infectious, making the whole experience even better. You can tell they put their heart and soul into every single dosa they create. Seriously, seek out this food truck. Order the Pondicherry Crepe. Prepare for a flavor adventure. The best dosas in NYC, served by the best team – it doesn't get better than this!

Phenomenal. Their dishes show culinary daring and flavor mastery. The food meets basic needs while the environment creates wow factor. Workers showed kindness that felt personal. I recommend the food here - I'm pleased I found this place.

Uncle is OG. To run his cart for over 20 years in the cold and heat is dedication and love. Uncle talked me into getting the spicy chutney even though I was sharing the dosa and the uttapam with my husband and friend. He divided the food in a shareable way that all of us could enjoy to the max. My belly and heart were both full, thanks for bringing me home and bringing home to me.

Worth the Wait (Even in the Pouring Rain): I hate waiting in line—especially in the rain. So believe me when I say: I never thought I’d be the person standing in a downpour for over an hour. And yet… that’s exactly what happened. Why? Dosa. And not just any dosa—the dosa from Thiru’s legendary food truck on the south side of Washington Square Park. Every. Single. Second. Would I do it again? Yes (but hopefully on a sunny day next time 😅). I ordered an off-menu rava dosa, which sadly didn’t survive my dash to find cover—it was delicious but completely wrecked by the rain (no photo evidence, Internet… it looked like a dosa crime scene). I also grabbed a samosa on the side—and wow. Crisp, spiced perfectly, and truly that authentic Indian street food flavor I crave. The best part? Thiru himself. The man behind the magic is incredibly warm and generous—he actually takes the time to ask what you like and even throws in extra chutneys and sides if you’re ordering a lot. Just a genuinely kind soul. Heads-up: The truck is only open from 11am–2pm and only on select days. You’ll need to follow their Instagram for updates because the schedule. Final note: When it started pouring, not a single person left the line. That should tell you everything you need to know. Go hungry, bring an umbrella, and thank me later.

If you’re in NYC and haven’t tried the New York Dosa Man, you’re seriously missing out! The food was absolutely delicious — fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. What made the experience even better was how friendly and welcoming he was. You can tell he puts a lot of love into what he does. And the best part? The food is super affordable without compromising on quality. Highly recommend for a quick, tasty, and heartwarming street food experience!

Tried the famous Dosa Man in NYC, and it absolutely lived up to the hype! The dosa was perfectly crispy, the chutneys were flavorful, and the sambar had the right balance of spice. The service was friendly, and the experience of enjoying authentic South Indian street food in Washington Square Park made it even better. A must-visit for food lovers in NYC!

Went on a Thursday but couldn’t find him, not sure if he is still here, will try again tomorrow earlier. Went again on a Tuesday early and he was there ! Great NY spot, he takes care of ever single customer and you can the passion for each dish he cooks. I ordered the Pondichery and Samosa, fresh and great dishes to try on the go. The green sauce was really good and mild spicy

We went on our first day in NYC which was Friday. For lunch, we sought out NY Dosas since we badly wanted some good, authentic Indian grub. There was a line when we got there and it was 94 deg F that day. Was it worth the wait of over 30 minutes? Heck yeah! The dosa was amazing and the samosas were tasty. We got both at spicy level. They also came with sauces. The dosa came with coconut chutney - amazing! We paid $18 for the dosa, two samosas and two bottles of water. Definitely a good value for your money for NYC. We learned they’re taking some time off and won’t be back until Tuesday so I’m glad we went today. The owner was extremely friendly and engaging. I can totally see why he is famous. I’d be a regular if I lived in the area.

Fantastic Dosas in NYC! The chef has become quite renowned, and his food truly lives up to the hype. He's also incredibly kind-hearted. Despite the long line, he made sure our child was served first, without having to wait. Service like this is a rare find these days. Of course this isn’t like a real South Indian dosa but eat on the go it is perfectly fine.

Amazing samosas and Masala dosa! I am not a dosa person, but this one sold me with the vegetable soup on the side for dipping. I loved the samosas with the green coconut chutney- it was the best samosas I ever had! Friendly & personable service as well where you can tell the guy cares about what he does. For a Monday, the wait was long as there was a long line but it’s worth it! We ate our food on park benches nearby which was nice.

Boy am I lucky we caught the food cart the day we did! He didn’t open any other day this week and my wife would have killed me if we missed his dosas! The line was a bit long, but the wait was worth it. We ordered three different dosas and highly recommend them all! Absolutely amazing owner (I cannot and will not butcher his name in this review-I cannot spell it). He was extremely friendly, let my wife take pictures, and chatted her up while he cooked our food. Top 3 experiences in NYC by our votes. If he is open and you are in NYC, get to Washington Square Park. If you don’t, you will miss out. From Iowa, I want to go back just for his dosas! You need to eat here!

I can't comment on its authenticity but it was was FKING DELICIOUS.The owner is very friendly and quick with prepping the food! And yes, the line is certainly long, I actually waited for ~2.5 hours. But if you just need to buy the sides, such as samosa or vegan chicken leg, just go up to the cart!

The Special pondicherry dosa was tasty and not very expensive. It was a masala dosa with a few more vegetables. I would have liked it to be a little more spicy (I picked the Indian spicy preparation). I also would have liked it more if the dosa was crispy (the batter was thick so dosa was soft). It was slightly inconvenient to eat from the box so that was the only negative in terms of atmosphere. Chutney was good and sambhar was okayish. As for wait times, I had to wait around 15 mins to place my order on a Monday afternoon.

Great rec by my Indian-Canadian friend! (Thanks, Princejeet!) He told me years ago to try the dosa, and I finally got to visit. I've never had a dosa before, and I didn't know what it was before he told me about it. This is a cart in Washington Square Park. After seeing so many college students around here, I spotted the line right away. I waited at least 40 minutes around 2 PM on a Friday. By the time I was halfway, the guy said he sold out of the special one. Then later he had to cut off the line because he said he would not have enough for everyone. To be honest, the liquids/sauces looked unappetizing, like there is a bright green thing all over it. BUT, to my surprise, the green sauce tasted the best. The soup in the cup was pretty flavorful. I got two things, and it came out to $22. The portion looks big. Cash or Venmo. No credit card.

The sambar was quite good — flavorful and satisfying. As a South Indian, I found the dosas to be standard — decent, however Thiru was quiet engaging!

We weren't even planning on eating here, we just happened to see a line and figured it must be good. We got there exactly at 11 and it took about 45 minutes to get our food. I'd recommend getting there a little earlier than that. We got the Special Pondicherry and a samosa and really enjoyed the food, but I'm not sure it's worth waiting more than 30 minutes for.

Blandest Masala Dosa I have ever eaten, got the medium spicy masala dosa. Not a fan. Other Dosa joints that i tried where authentic and actually tasty.

I got the Podicherry special with vegetables and potatoes. As a dosa fan, this dosa was below average. Didn't have to wait in line but the taste didn't match the hype around this place. The sambar was inedible to me. The dosa was dry and the veg was too raw/crunchy. The chutney was average. Skip this place and go to any well rated South Indian restaurant in the city.

I had been grown up eating lots of Dosa at different places in India and USA. Looking to the reviews on Google went there from Brooklyn specially to try his Dosa. Honestly it's not worth at all. The taste of Doda and it's masala inside was absolutely tasteless. Sambhar was like just water floating with few vegetables. Even the Samosa was so tasteless. Also be prepared to eat on the benches in the park since its foodtruck. It's completely waste of money and time. I personally advise if you want to eat south Indian food do visit Ganesha temple in flushing where they serve yummy food in their canteen or visit Dosa delight at jackson heights or Jersey city Ganesha dosa..
