Avis sur Rex New York
My second time reviewing Rex but I had to give it five stars again because I just tried their breakfast burrito today and it was incredible. Let’s not forget about the amazing coffee, kind staff, and 10/10 atmosphere. Thank god there’s a go-to local coffee shop in this area! LU Rex.
I come here at least three times/week while I’m in the city. Friendly staff, great baristas, amazing breakfast burrito. Rex is the only coffee shop you should be visiting in Hells Kitchen.
I work nearby and come here every day. The coffee is great and the service is even better. Always good vibes. If you’re looking for a cortado — this is the spot.
Started working near here and I go a few times a week. Great staff! I don't drink coffee but their muffins, loaves and donuts are all amazing. Would recommend their Turkey Roast sandwich they have for lunch sometimes 10/10 crazy good. Comes with caramelized onions in the sandwich and a side salad in the box. Update: Have been coming here for a couple of years now! Super great and healthy lunch options for when you going feel like cooking. I recommend the steak sandwich and Chipotle chicken sandwich!
Just the best place around. Great coffee and tasty lunches. Plus their pastries are so delicious and update frequently.
I looooooveeeeee Rex. I walk a couple extra blocks past other coffee shops just to come back here. The coffee is great and I crave the grilled chicken sandwich...but you have to get the chilli oil. (its the best part) Also a great spot to pull up and work on a computer...theres wifi!
I ordered a chicken panini and it was pretty good. Came with a small salad. The place gets good traffic so you may have to wait 10 or so minutes for your order to be completed.
Favorite spot for coffee and matcha! The staff is super friendly. Great breakfast and lunch options too!
So good! Definitely stop by whether you’re local or passing through the area. Coffee is great, including iced/hot, drip/espresso. Service is so helpful and friendly. If you have time, it’s a great place to chill and read the newspaper. I think they keep a copy or two of the day’s NYT for customers to read. For food, I’ve tried breakfast sandwiches, muffins, and the vegan breakfast bar. All 🔥
I absolutely love it here. Fantastic service and super cool employees who will remember locals. Have loved everything on the menu I have tried so far. Highly recommend!!
Everything here is excellent - from the coffee, which is top notch, to their sandwiches, which are really well made and delicious. The pastries are always fresh and tasty, and staff is really nice and easy to talk to. Highly recommend coming here if you’re in the neighborhood!
I love popping over here from work for the breakfast quesadilla, breakfast burrito, the Cuban, or one of the sweet treats. The chai latte is perfectly spicy and not too sweet. Staff is nice and the environment is cozy.
A cozy little coffee shop serving an extensive menu of breakfast and lunch staples. Beans are from Counter Culture which is a fabulous option. I had the Cuban sandwich and it was perfectly seasoned on the crunchiest toasted hero. A couple of medium tables so perfect for gathering a small group of friends or sitting and getting some work done. The staff is welcoming and friendly and the atmosphere is really chill.
Small cafe in midtown west, with great coffee and sandwiches. Few seats and lots of sandwich option.
Excellent coffee, unlike the other coffee places nearby this place takes the time make coffee right. When it wasn’t perfect the barista made another one (without me even asking for it). I’m from the west where coffee is a spiritual part of life. The Rex gives you that coffee feeling of daily morning satisfaction.
First time going and let me tell you, I was hesitant when I walked in. Super small and they were out of the Beef sandwich. I'm so glad they were because this kind employee talked me into the Lamb Sandwich w/a salsa Verde and possibly tzatziki sauce. Whatever. It was LITERALLY THE BEST LAMB SANDWICH EVER!! So good! They were friendly, fast and there was a happy vibe there. Now, about the size of the place. It is small and there are only two communal tables. Who cares! The patrons were super accommodating and made room for me to enjoy this sandwich that was apparently forged in the heavens. Seriously, I cannot stress how amazing this sandwich is. Wait...that means more people will want this sandwich and then they might run out the next time I go... Changed my mind, it was awful. Who am I kidding, it was awesome. 10 out of 5 stars. Yours truly, -Carlos P.s. I'm obsessed with this sandwich y'all...
Rex is my main coffee spot — and one of my favorite parts of living around this neighborhood. Great coffee, friendly service, and good food (breakfast burritos are fantastic).
I visit Rex every chance I get and have not been disappointed. I love their coffee, breakfast sandwiches, and the coffee cake (LAUSD flashbacks)! The staff, Yaro, Elif and Liv, are super friendly and add to the experience. Check them out when you get a chance!
Rex is my go-to coffee shop. Love their lattes, coconut loaf and tuna sandwiches, in particular. Lovely staff and a luxurious indulgence I always look forward to!
great drinks i loved the matcha latte with strawberry. also food is best breakfast sandwiches i ever had in new york. breakfast cuban is amazing.
Truly delightful local coffeespot/cafe. Staff is so kind and quality is excellent. The chorizo burrito and breakfast sandwiches are my fav!
10 year loyal customer here! We have been coming to Rex religiously for 10 years. Coffee, pastries, granola, burritos and staff are amazing. Thanks for nourishing our bellies and souls for TEN years!
Sometimes a little crowded, but only because the food and coffee is so good!!! The breakfast sandwiches and pastries are particularly great. And lovely staff too :)
Best coffee shop in Hell's Kitchen! Coffee is excellent. Food and pastries are great as well. Super nice staff and good vibes.
I‘ve been going to Rex‘s for years. The sandwiches and wraps are delicious and really affordable. The folks behind the counter and in the kitchen are efficient and super nice!
Breakfast here is a haven! The egg sandwiches are delicious, they have gluten free bread, and the pastries are top notch the gluten free banana bread is amazing. Great coffee and cozy vibes.
Solid coffee. Great that the latte was served with 2 shots, which makes for a decently, strong coffee. Milk was also steamed properly; it was nice and silky (unlike starbucks and 99% of cafes in the US). I do wish they would serve it in a latte in a latte glass, rather than a cappuccino mug
Excellent stop for a quick coffee and breakfast sandwich. It's quick, and high quality with great ingredients. Enjoyed it so much, we visited twice in 3-days. Recommend the Brioche or Croissant BEC. Hot sauce is real good, and makes the sandwich pop. I tried the wholegrain bread and sausage... and while good it's untoasted and makes it more a plain sandwich with sliced sausage links not a patty. The BEC, hits the spot though.
I start every work day with a great cup of coffee served by the super friendly staff here. I look forward to this cup of coffee from the moment I wake up. The pastries are ALWAYS excellent and super fresh. Rex is everything you want in your neighborhood coffee shop.
I cannot over state how much I LOVE Rex. I literally eat and snack here every day. Need a good coffee and breakfast? Iced coffee and the egg & cheese sandwich on a brioche bun are my go-tos. Lunch time fave? The steak sandwich without hesitation. Hungry for a pastry? The Earl Grey cookie has become a part of my daily menu. And to top it all off, everyone is always super friendly. Love this place and am thankful it’s been a part of my NYC story since 2016!
I really like this spot, I come every almost every weekend - never misses. Casual vibe, staff are very nice, food and coffee are great (plenty of options). I can always say I enjoy my weekend routine of coming here to grab a bagel and a coffee!
My favorite coffee shop in NYC! Great menu - I usually build my own egg sandwich. The team is always friendly and the coffee is always fresh. It's also laptop friendly with a few outlets and free, reliable wifi.
Rex is my go to spot for lunch. All of the team members are very welcoming, and the menu has many great options. The sandwiches are all made with fresh ingredients and highly recommended. I typically order the tuna salad sandwich on a brioche bun. I usually don't order tuna anywhere else because Rex is the one place that makes it perfect. When I have time, I like to return in the afternoon for a coffee or latte, which is among the best in the area. This team genuinely cares about all of its customers, so if you are in the area don't hesitate to stop by for breakfast or lunch!
Every time I go there, it feels like I’m in my own kitchen—comfortable, familiar, and welcoming. The menu has so many great options, it’s hard to choose. The coffee is hands-down the best I’ve had in NYC, and the sandwiches are always fresh and packed with flavor. Honestly, I recommend this spot to everyone I know.
Rex has been my go to coffee and sandwich place for years. It’s rare to find egg sandwiches this good in this area let alone nyc. The food is fresh and the espresso is dialed in every morning. The owners & their staff are great & dependable.
I am hesitant to write this review because I don’t want others to know about this amazing spot, but they have been so good to me that I have to return the favor. Such an amazing, small, community focused coffee shop. The food is surprisingly good, their breakfast sandwich is superb and their Cuban is a stunner. Pro tip, get the salsa verde added to any breakfast item, you’re not living if you don’t. It goes without saying that the coffee is fantastic. I also want to shout out the whole crew for being wonderful, they’re all so kind, friendly, and genuinely interested in knowing how you’re doing. Yarro wanted me to credit him specifically but that seems super unfair so I’m not going to do that. Go, enjoy, you won’t be disappointed.
I work right next door and come here nearly every day for lunch—it’s that good! Everything always fresh, the staff is incredibly kind and welcoming. I highly recommend the chicken caesar salad, the tuna sandwich, or the turkey roast, but honestly, I’ve never been disappointed with anything I’ve ordered. This place is a gem!
Had an amazing experience here. Latte and muffin were amazing, of course. I didn’t know that they were closing around 4pm. It was already half past 4, but they did not say anything. Also I saw they consumed the whole brewed coffee daily. People were super nice and kind. Strongly recommended! I would like to visit again! (There is also wifi too)
Oh my gosh, what can I say? This is the best coffee shop in the entire city. And it’s more than just the coffee…(which is spectacular)… It’s the people. The baristas are all very friendly and the owner is a good man, and now a friend. Do yourself a favor when you’re in hell kitchen, and drop in for a coffee!
I have ordered from Rex dozens upon dozens of times (it's an all but guaranteed order each and every Saturday morning, often on Sunday too). These are mostly delivery orders, but sometimes I’ll also pick up an order during a weekday stroll. This place is the definition of a local café that we collectively need to keep sustainable (if not thriving) with our business. Everything I've ordered has been consistently excellent. The coffee and other drinks (housemade lemonade, etc.) not surprisingly, are just what you'd want or come to expect. The food, light bites, as well as vegan and/or gluten-free baked goods are also all made on the premises. Consequently, they're always fresh. You don’t come across this much anymore. I can’t leave without adding their vegan bar to my drink order. It’s delicious for starters, but the ingredients are also clearly designed to fuel sustained energy. Lastly, the highly-customizable breakfast sandwiches, wraps and AV toast are a must too. Call me crazy, but I actually enjoy that their portions aren’t too big on the food offerings. This way each bite feels more special, somehow, and I feel ready for my day versus blah and lethargic. Anyways, give Rex a shot and there is almost no way that you could possibly regret your decision. It is a north Hell’s Kitchen staple that’s worth the price.
Rex is such an asset to the community. The coffee is excellent - my favorite treat is their iced mocha with oat milk. It’s perfectly chocolately and not overly sweet. The food is FANTASTIC, especially their chorizo breakfast burrito. And the staff is all friendly and fast. My only wishes are that they listed somewhere what comes on their dishes (especially lunch). I think I’d order lunch here more often if I knew what came on the sandwiches. And it’s a tiny tiny space so the queuing system is sometimes a free for all that invites cutting, but that’s not necessarily something that anyone can prevent - except to order coffee from here every day so they can move to a bigger space. If you want breakfast in Hells Kitchen, look no further. Don’t waste your money at Starbucks when you can treat yourself to Rex.
Our favorite coffee spot in the neighborhood! Great coffee and breakfast sandwiches, friendly people, and fun music. We love their sugar free vanilla in cold brew or cappuccinos, and their hot sauce!
One of - if not - the best cafes in NYC. We have been coming almost daily for the past decade, and it remains our favorite. The coffee is reliably fantastic, the food - especially anything egg-based - is delicious and affordable … and the staff are amazing! Can’t recommend Rex enough.
I tried to post six stars, but google wouldn’t let me. This is the best coffee shop/breastfast/lunch spot in the world, and I’ve been known to travel! The staff is the only thing that comes close to matching the food and coffee, which says a lot. I’m a regular so the place has a strong “Cheers” vibe. (For the Gen Z that means everyone knows your name). Breakfast and lunch options are better than any other breakfast or lunch spot, with plenty of baked goods, sandwiches and salads to choose from - which is already more than you come to expect from a humble coffee shop. Speaking of coffee, they serve Counter Culture, which arguably the best coffee roaster in the US, but I’m not one to argue so let’s just say it is.
I’ve lived in the neighborhood for the past 5 years and just discovered this place . They have really great pastries and really loved their sweetened iced matcha latte.
This is - hands down - the best ice coffee in New York at the BEST PRICE (not even $4) I’ve been going here since 2015 or so and though I don’t regularly find myself in the area, I’ll go out of my way to get this coffee and perhaps a breakfast sandwich (also good) in the AM. Sometimes there are seats available and it’s a nice place to work. Crowded, but totally NY. Really - why not try out this cute, independent store than across the street with the biggest of coffee conglomerates.
Wasn't sure if I should've stopped here at first but I am SO GLAD I did! Had the oat milk latte and the chicken panini sandwich. Absolutely delicious! The chicken was so savory and cheese melted just the right way. Exactly what I needed on a rainy day. The coffee was delicious and well made as well. Absolutely recommend!
REX NYC is an absolute gem. The coffee is top-tier, with a great selection of drinks that are always made with care. Liv is fantastic. She is incredibly knowledgeable and always makes drinks quickly, even during the morning rush. The food is just as impressive as the coffee. The breakfast sandwiches are a must and everything on the menu is fresh and flavorful. The vibe is cozy and energetic, making it a perfect spot to hang out or get some work done. Easily a five-star experience every time.
Can you please make more gluten free coffee cakes daily? I love them but they get sold out so quick!! Also they’re not available on GrubHub, can you please fix that?
Very cozy place for dates or working. Very good food specially GRAVLOX is my fav. And for pastries you should try vegan banana bread even if you are not vegan. And their new chamomile lemon bread GO FOR IT!!!! ❤️
Excellent coffee. Excellent breakfast sandwiches. The music is too loud to write here and the corners could use some serious cleaning, but the food and neighborhoody vibes are solid and consistent.
Rex is a hidden gem! This is my go to coffee shop every morning on my way to work. The coffee is delicious, the pastries are to die for and the staff is so friendly! They know me by name already, which is one of the many reasons I love it. Your quintessential “I’m a regular here” experience. If you’re in the areas definitely check it out!
Neighborhood go-to. Amazing fast-casual cafe with a great menu for breakfast and lunch. Service is always great even when they’re slammed on the weekends. On the weekends, you might have to wait a bit for your order, but it’s well worth it for the price and taste. Try ordering ahead. Highly recommend the breakfast sandwiches/bagels. Affordable and tasty.
The atmosphere of this location is second to none. From the food to the drinks to the service and atmosphere, I feel right at home. The worker Yaro suggested I get the breakfast burrito with chorizo and it was amazing. Had it with a chai latte with vanilla and that was also great. Yaro made the atmosphere and overall experience great and I will definitely be coming back again.
I've been a REX regular for a few years now, and it's gotten to the point where my day doesn't feel like it's truly started until I've stopped by to pick up my morning coffee and breakfast. It is, without a doubt, a defining feature of this neighborhood and one of the top things I would miss dearly if I ever had to move away. First off, the coffee is consistently fantastic. I'm a huge fan of all their espresso drinks, but my daily go-to is a simple, perfect Americano. The team here is another huge part of what makes this place so special—they are incredibly friendly, always welcoming, and impressively efficient, even during the busiest morning rushes. But to call REX just a coffee shop would be doing it a disservice. Their food is absolutely top-notch. They have, in my opinion, the best breakfast sandwiches in town. My personal favorites are the breakfast burrito with pastrami, yogurt/granola, and any of the Utopia bagel sandwiches. Honestly, though, I've explored a good chunk of the menu over the years and have never once been disappointed. You truly can't go wrong with anything you order here. It's a true neighborhood gem.
I am a frequent visitor to Rex Coffee in Hell's Kitchen, and my experience every time, from the food to coffee to customer service, is a 10/10. The staff are accommodating, helpful, and have a fun vibe! The sandwiches are remarkable, specifically the steak sandwich and breakfast burritos. I've brought friends, family, and done work all at Rex and will continue to do so!
REX is my go-to spot for coffee, breakfast, and pastries. Hands down one of the best espresso bars in NYC. I come here almost every day, and it never disappoints. The coffee is consistently excellent, the pastries are fresh and delicious, and the breakfast/lunch options are simple but satisfying. But what really sets it apart, is the staff. Everyone is incredibly friendly, welcoming, and professional. They somehow manage to make a busy NYC coffee shop feel like a cozy neighborhood hangout. Whether I’m grabbing a quick espresso on the go or chilling with my husband or friends and a croissant, I always leave happier than I came in. Highly recommend if you're in the area or even if you're not. It's worth the detour.
Pleasant experience at this busy little spot. They have a great selection breakfast and lunch items all super fresh. We loved the chicken panini (with chipotle mayo 7 grain toast and side of greens) and the lentil soup. Not a lot of seating but people are coming in and out, it wasn’t tough to find a seat to read a book for a couple hours. I’ll be back to try more
If you want a really fun and tasty local spot for breakfast, check out Rex. The breakfast burritos are on point and I took the advice of another reviewer and added potatoes to mine (an excellent choice). Coffee is good and fresh, and the food is made to order. I love little hole in the wall places like Rex, and hope they stick around for a long time.
There aren’t many cafés where you can get like regular weekday, breakfast sandwiches, and a cup of coffee. Sullivan Bakery is too expensive. Coffee Project doesn’t have enough food. There’s nowhere to sit at Birch Coffee. Rex is the answer to all shortcomings of other neighborhood cafés. Reasonable prices and a lot of seating with good fast, quality, food, and coffee.
I used to sit in this coffeeshop almost every weekend when I lived in Hell’s Kitchen. They use oatly and counter culture coffee which is the recipe for a great coffee. My only problem is the strong (and bad) smell, probably because of the eggs and other things they make. I guess if they left the door open or had better circulation that wouldn’t be an issue. If you only doing a to go that’s great option if you want to sit down a relax, be ready for it
A great place to grab a quick sandwich and coffee. The service is friendly, but can be a little slow at times. Even when the service is slightly longer, the wait is worth it!
The create your own egg sandwich is amazing! I love how there are additional options available here that typically aren’t available at your local corner store’s deli. Honestly, would’ve preferred more salt and pepper for my personal liking, but the ingredients came together perfectly. I really like how the egg is cooked (as opposed to the typical NYC egg sandwich), it allowed me to taste chunks of the yellow part of the egg by itself which i enjoyed. The turkey bacon itself is say was pretty bland but I ordered it in a cinnamon raisin bagel and added tomatoes, onions and spinach. Excellent egg sandwich, I’d return. A bit expensive at just under 15 dollars, the most expensive egg sandwich I ever had. Maybe I’d get it on a brioche next time.
15.62 for a sausage egg and cheese on a bagel and a small drip coffee is just crazy. It was OK, but it was a little out of my range for a future return, though. The service was great, though.
I was ordering consistently under my fiance Shaka's account of uber first time I ordered the muffins they were made to perfection the last 2 order's the out side is cooked but the inside is not fully cooked and mushy . The previous time I got avacado on my breakfast sandwich the amount became way smaller if I pay extra why would I get two pieces of very tiny avacado on each side & I paid extra for a few items actually.I truly wish them the best. Also suggest to always wear gloves and hair nets.Should you stop in ? Why not Rex definitely has worthy items in my opinion when cooked right :) in total since July I spent $390 from July into august. best of wishes guys :) Reply to owner : Just to highlight I did say I still recommend your establishment & that you guys have amazing items . I also stated you guys have worthy items which to me it was worth the money I paid just about every time except the last two times when the muffins were not fully baked inside .the avacado was perfect previous times but the last time size wise was way smaller but I still recommend Rex to other's .Have a great day
Staff seemed to have an attitude. Atmosphere was non existent. Food was tiny fornthe price.
The food here is definitely good. I ordered a breakfast sandwich, and it was tasty and well made. Coffee was solid, too. That said, the space is very small, and it felt a bit cramped during a busy morning. Service was polite but clearly stretched because of how busy it was. I think this place works best if you’re doing takeout or coming during a quieter time. Worth trying for the food, just manage expectations about seating.
I actually quite like the place. Good coffee and breakfast sandwich. Very friendly staff. There are simply too many dogs inside this small coffee shop. Almost the same number of dogs vs humans. I’m fine with people eating outside with their dogs but doing the same inside has food safety consequences. Unfortunately the staffs here aren’t doing anything about it.
This used to be my favorite egg sandwich of all new york. The last 2 times I went they had closed the kitchen WAY before closing the place (yesterday they closed at 3pm indeed, and the place closes at 5pm, the previous time it was the same but 2pm/4pm). It’s shameful to order a sandwich at 1:55pm and that your friend that arrives at 2:03pm cannot eat because they closed the kitchen…. And my sandwich was not even ready!!! They were still cooking it!!!! We had to share it when they brought it… The service is truly terrible, they simply didnt care. Yesterday I went to give them another chance: same situation, kitchen closed at 3:07pm and place closing at 5pm. I ended up ordering a simple matcha to sip while looking for a different place to eat and it was a more than 8 dollar matcha latte of the worst quality matcha I have ever tried. The least you could do guys is to serve a decent one for this price. It makes me sad, but never again.
I was wanting to try this place, but seeing how rude are the responses of the owner to the low reviews, I don’t think I want to try anymore, it is ridiculous that someone that should be trained in customer service talks to customers that way and shames them when they are saying they prices seem high for low quality coffee. Disgusting. Btw the owner replied saying go to Dunkin Donuts lol, guess I’ll take their advice and my money, nothing screams professionalism like telling your costumers to go somewhere else.
