Quality sushi…. I love the variety of special dishes that you can find on the wall. Their deluxe sashimi is a good selection of different cuts of tuna, salmon, and other quality fish. A great place for a light meal.

This place always has fresh and delicious fish. Its one of the last affordable options left in the area so please support them. Cozy and casual atmosphere but the food feels elevated. Service is always great.

Quietly keeping the standard for 'Old Soul' sushi in the West Village. In a neighborhood increasingly dominated by $300 'performance' omakases and neon-lit fusion spots, Tomo21 is a breath of fresh air. It feels like a sanctuary. It’s the kind of place where the rice temperature is actually respected and the fish-to-rice ratio is dialed in with mathematical precision. What you need to know before you walk in: • The Atmosphere: It’s minimalist, wood-toned, and blissfully quiet. If you’re looking for a loud birthday dinner with sake bombs, this is not the spot. This is for people who actually want to hear their date speak. • The 'Secret' Advantage: This space used to be the legendary Tomoe Sushi. While the name changed, the commitment to no-frills, high-quality cuts remains. It’s less of a tourist trap now, which is a win for us locals. • The Order: The Chutoro (medium fatty tuna) is consistently buttery. If you’re feeling indecisive, their Sushi Deluxe is the most honest representation of what they do best with no filler, just incredibly fresh nigiri. • Pro-Tip: They have a great lunch special that is arguably the best value for high-grade fish in the area.

Stopped by this sushi spot in the West Village for lunch and it was already busy, which you can tell is a good sign. The quality definitely lives up to the hype. My favorite dishes were the tuna belly, unagi don, and kani salad. Everything tasted fresh, especially the sashimi, and the prices were very reasonable for the area. Such a great spot to grab a quick but satisfying lunch. I’ll definitely be back!

Never Fails! We’ve been coming here, standing in line for decades to enjoy super fresh Japanese seafood. The kitchen dishes are authentic and well prepared. Sakis are affordable and solid. The daily specials never disappoint. We always agadashi tofu which feels like a warm dollop of heaven. Tempuras are crisp to perfection. Fish is FRESH -always!!

One of the best sushi spots in NYC! Authentic, not overpriced, amazing quality.

If you're looking for a cozy, mid-priced sushi spot with generous portions and reliably fresh classics, Tomo21 delivers a satisfying experience. It’s a great pick for a laid-back night out with quality fish and friendly vibes. While it may not aim for ultra-refined omakase perfection, its charm lies in hearty servings and crowd-pleasing favorites.

A little hole in the wall serving the highest quality of sushi in The Village, NYC. Worth the squeeze if there are only one or two tables left. Small restaurant, but big flavor.

A woodsy sushi spot offering an eclectic Japanese menu with warm service. For lunch, we had the Sashimi Regular set with a side of sushi rice - the fish was fresh and generously portioned, and the sushi rice had just the right amount of rice vinegar flavor. The grilled yellowtail collar was also delicious and well-balanced, and the grilled squid was well textured complemented by a nicely charred taste. Overall, a hearty Japanese meal at a great value in a cozy setting.

Actually one of the best sushi spots in NYC. The quality of fish is amazing and fresh. The nigiri pieces are legit the size of your hand, it’s crazy. The thing I love the most is how reasonable the prices are given the quality and size of the sushi. I come here every time I visit NYC, it’s one of my all time favorite spots! I hope it never changes.

We've been to this place for many years. We always get the sushi / sashimi special. Over the time the food quality and quantity remain pretty much the same, but the price went up quite a bit - like everywhere else. Nowadays a sushi deluxe is $47. Think it was $29 back in the days. Cannot say it's the best value anymore, but a treat once a while.

Nestled in a small little spot, is this wonderful sushi spot that serves large portions of fish that are always fresh and delicious. Moderate prices don't stack up to the amount of fish and food you get. Definitely a bang for your buck.

You can't fault the low prices and decent quality of this Greenwich Village staple. They offer huge cuts of fish that are often twice the size of other places, plus an array of surprisingly interesting apps for the less raw seafood-inclined. Oysters in butter? Deep fried egg in shoyu soup? They're all here.

It’s my second time visiting Tomo21. The first visit was great, from the service to the freshness of the sushi – all superb. They also serve complimentary hot green tea if you ask, which is a plus for me since I like to drink hot green tea with my sushi. On the second visit, I ordered the sushi dinner deluxe and was kind of disappointed because I didn’t see much difference compared to the regular sushi dinner, which I believe was better. Also, my server made me ask four times for tea, and the restaurant was empty, so I was quite surprised. But overall, it was a good experience with nice people, good sushi, and affordable prices.

First time we tried this place. We got the lunch special, Alaska roll California roll, and eel roll. Overall, the taste was fine. The lunch special plate was $28 and came with very delicious sashimi — really tasty. The Alaska California rolls were $18, and they were nothing special at all. Paying $18 for this roll expected much better quality. They still had frozen imitation crab meat inside, which was a big disappointment. Honestly, it kind of felt like I got scammed, lol. Where is Alaskan Crab meat lol?? The eel rolls were fine. Overall, the food tastes good, but I would never go back. I give this place a 6/10.

Service was really great and the atmosphere wasn’t too bad from what I could see. However, the fish was very fishy and unpleasant. I’ll give it another try, but the fish was not very fresh.

Sushi was not great, place was very noisy. We went for the combinations and the sushi did not taste very fresh and we got sick of it after eating a bit of it. Ended up paying $50 per person. You can definitely do better in the neighbourhood for that price

It was my 10th visit. It has been getting worse every year and today was the worst, so fishy and terrible. It felt like the fish has been stored for a long time. Will never go back. Price has raised so much and qulity felt down to the ground. Market sushi is better for sure.

I recently went to Tomo21 out of nostalgia. Tomoe used to be one of my most frequent neighborhood sushi spots about ten years ago. Unfortunately, the place has seriously deteriorated. It’s not “authentically worn-in” — it’s just dirty. The bathrooms look like they haven’t been cleaned in a decade, doors are literally falling apart, and corners of the walls are covered in mold and thick dust. The entire space shows zero pride of ownership and immediately kills any appetite. The food has also declined noticeably. Quality is at least 30% worse than before: toro with thick white veins, low-quality soy sauce and wasabi, and miso soup with tofu that tasted borderline spoiled. Meanwhile, prices are roughly 1/3 higher (which would’ve been perfectly fine if quality held up). In a city where sushi quality has improved significantly over the past several years, this place simply isn’t worth visiting anymore.

The restaurant was bustling and cramped but the food was low-quality. The chutoro tartare appetizer was very bland and did not have the flavor or texture of tuna fat. The grilled kampachi kama (collar) had a fishy smell and was likely not the most fresh. The sushi and sashimi platter had no hits. The bland chutoro tartare was repeated. The fish in general had a mushy texture which could mean they’re not fresh. The surf clam had lots of sand in it, but the server agreed to change it to another fish.
