Great place, and you can get vegan and gluten free pizzas too. Waiter was nice. We went in for lunch and you get can 11$ personal pizzas.
I'm a thick crust lover so their Detroit and Chicago are off the charts. 10/10 ! If you like thin crust they have that too and it is an 8/10.
IDK if I actually want to post this glowing review, and contribute to the fact that the secret is getting out about this place... The deep dish (Chicago style) pizza is like... literally TO DIE FOR. By far the best deep dish I've had outside of Chicago (I lived there), and TBH it might actually be better than anything I had in Chicago. It's THAT good.
The best little star location I’ve been to! Everything came out quickly and was absolutely delicious. The Roasted Cauliflower appetizer is a must—crispy, light, and perfect alongside the pizzas. I ordered the Detroit-style BBQ “chicken” pizza and swapped the chicken and bacon for asparagus and broccolini—worked perfectly, and I loved it. For drinks, the Black Basil is a winner; the Aviation was a bit odd for my taste. Great service, stylish decor, and fantastic food—what’s not to love?
I went with a party /group of 13 people including children because we had great food and an awesome server named Airadina (spelling could be wrong). The roasted cauliflower was the highlight of dinner …you must order some! I guaranteed you will love eating them. The cheese bread is another favorite that was thick and had the right amount of cheese. We ordered 3 pizzas and still took home leftovers. Interesting, that you are able to select from three different thin, Detroit or Chicago style . We did the Detroit and thin pizzas…which were all a success. All the ingredients are fresh and not canned ( well they did not taste canned…lol) if you are looking for a back east tasting pizza this is the place to go!
We reserved a table for dinner for a large group (12+). The server was delightful and very attentive! The menu is expansive, so we ordered appetizers and pizzas to share across the table. The food was delicious, some of the best pizza I've had in a while!! I would highly recommend a visit to The Star on Grand!!
We checked out this gem thanks to Oakland Restaurant Week! Personal pan pizza + salad for just $10. At a 10-inch diameter, this is the largest personal pan pizza I've gotten before. We ordered the chicken pesto and Hawaiian pizzas, both thin crust, and roasted cauliflower to share. It would have been more than enough food without the app but glad we got the cauliflower! The Hawaiian pizza is a monthly special for January 2020. It includes FRESH pineapple (this really makes a difference!), pepperoni, and olives. I'm not someone who likes pineapple in their pizza, but I gotta say this one is the best one I've had. Probably because the pepperoni was so good. Discovering places like this one is why I LOVE Restaurant Weeks! Pros: great thin-crust pizza, good Happy Hour menu, good service, great value Cons: parking is rough (~5 spots are available next to the building but fill up fast), notably poor cell signal in the area (I have T-Mobile)
A Bite into Happiness! Finally a place for a great deep dish pizza in Oakland. Visited the place for the first time last night with my wife and we ordered to go. With about 45 minutes to go before closing for the day there were just couple tables were occupied plus one customer at the bar. Despite the lateness crew was very attentive to our questions and requests. Place has a "clean, sober almost introspective" atmosphere. I liked it very much. Food quality unquestionable! Pizza has a lot of filling, not just Tomato Sauce, like some other places. Chicken Wings also spice just right. Definitely the place to go with family and friends to enjoy great food. Parking area to the side of the building is small so depending on what time of the day you go parking may be a challenge.
6.8 💥 I had this spot on my pizza list to try out. I arrived around 2pm on a Saturday and got seated right away. The pizza great, I loved the Chicago style and the thin pizza Pesto chicken was ok. I will return for the thin pepperoni pizza and update review score if needed. If you are in the area try this place out. 👊🏽
It all started well, our reservation for a party of 8 was ready and the first round of drinks were delivered promptly. We ordered and enjoyed a starter of Burrata and Garlic Crostini but the Garlic Cheese bread we ordered did not appear even though we requested the server check where it was. (It eventually appeared, with no apology, when we had almost finished eating the pizzas we ordered) My other criticism is that the server’s explanation of pizza sizes minimized the size of the pizzas. So yes, the pizzas tasted good, but we ended up taking a lot of uneaten pizza (and Garlic Bread) home to fill up the refrigerator for a few days.
This place bested my expectations. I had tried a pie for delivery at a going away party for a friend in graphic design and advertising. It was great. Good drink selection, draft beers looked good. Ah only dry rub baked wings…hmmm They ended up being delightful The real star of the show was that fennel Italian sausage sandwich. Great peppers. Vibe is dim lit but social Cheers
Clean, modern looking appearance. The deep dish meatball pizza was incredible. It had Ricotta cheese portions which I hadn't had before and I was blown away by how good this pizza was. Really awesome. Also kid friendly with crayons and fill in placemats for the young ones. TVs above the bar to watch the game. Grand avenue is pretty busy so you might have to walk a little bit to park. Highly recommend.
Ordered the goddess salad and the deep dish Italian combo. The salad wasn’t tossed well and dressing seemed scarce. It certainly didn’t taste like pesto either so it was a bit disappointing. The deep dish tasted fine, but the crust was thick. Biting into the leftover the next day. You can see how much crust there is. It’s not a true deep dish. Overall, it was just okay. It didn’t blow us away.
WHAT A HORRIBLE PLACE! Stay away! This is the kind of restaurant that makes me skeptical on eating in the city (SF) vs eating at the town (Oakland). I booked for an 8pm reservation and asked for a romantic spot in the restaurant through OpenTable. When we arrived, Aaron sat us to almost an empty space and when I mentioned I have a reservation, he saw my request and sat us at the back end of the restaurant. We ordered salad, meatballs, a bottle of wine and a Detroit style BBQ Chicken pizza. Towards 9pm, Alejandro our server asked if he can bring out the check since they were closing. I obliged and paid as he left the box for our to- go, which we didn’t asked. We still have half of the bottle of Pinot, a full glass of wine each, and half of the pizza that we were still eating, when he came few minutes after and took my husbands plate away, and offered to take mine out and he put the half of the pizza inside the to-go box himself. At that point we asked to talk to Aaron about the bad experience. We relayed to him that the experience was horrible for hurrying us up to pay and taking out our plate, when we are clearly still eating. He said that they close at 9pm and that it was way beyond their time already, to which we replied and ask what are we going to do with wines that we still have left, to which he offered he can give the bottle to us. I said that I was driving and I can’t have an open bottle of wine. The ending was he gave us plastic cup for our wine and I didn’t finished my pizza and half of the meatballs left in my plate. The issue I have, is that if they have just verbalized that they are only open till 9pm from the time he sat us, we could’ve made a determination of what to order and also take in consideration the time it will take the kitchen to serve us our appetizers and entree. I urge you to reconsider going here especially for those that are late night diners (like me) because this place is not for you. The food was fine but the service is darn horrible that I will not even consider looking at this restaurant when I pass by the road. It’s my first and definitely my last. Let me save you the trip, it’s not worth it!!! You will be thanking me in the future to which I can only say, “You’re welcome!”
