Such a wonderful Oaxaca Gem! Esteban was very friendly and attentive. He offered menus in both English and Spanish. The food is delicious and made with fresh ingredients. We tried memelas, tacos and tortas and highly recommend all three! This family owned restaurant provides a very welcoming atmosphere. It's a very clean establishment and will be an experience you don't want to miss out on. We can't wait to go back!

What a wonderful place to have lunch! The food was amazing and made right in front of us. Highly recommend the tacos and tlayudas. Some if the best food I've had in Oaxaca, tasted like my grandma's home cooking. We also got a lovely complimentary (tiny) shot of mezcal with the host. Will be back!!!

The food was great but even more so - Mo (server/host) made the experience what it was. He was friendly and hilarious, in both Spanish and English. He gave us recommendations for sight seeing in Oaxaca and some delicious mezcal. They opened recently and I’m sure will be open for many years to come.

We had a lovely experience at Cocina Cempasúchil! We ordered the enchiladas suiza and the chile relleno, which were both delicious. Moy, our host, was friendly and attentive, also sharing his local recommendations with us and making our visit extra special!

Estábamos buscando un lugar para desayunar y realmente fue un gran hallazgo. El servicio es extraordinario, pero el sabor de la comida es aun mejor. Todo conserva el sabor de casa, la presentación de los alimentos es muy linda. El chocolate de agua es delicioso.

Cocina cempasuchil es una joya! La auténtica comida Oaxaqueña al comal y un servicio excelente! Precios muy buenos y es un negocio familiar de una familia de Ocotlán, si quieren conocer la riqueza de Oaxaca, está en estos lugares pequeños y auténticos! Such an awesome experience on our initial visit, we returned several times on our recent trip to Oaxaca. Delicious authentic local dishes, and the warmest and kindest staff I experienced in all of Oaxaca. The restaurant is also in a beautiful peaceful courtyard on the edge of Barrio del Jalatlaco which is a fantastic part of Oaxaca.

The moment we walked through the door, we were greeted with genuine warmth — the staff and owner couldn’t have been kinder. Out back, there’s an unexpected treasure: a vibrant gallery of street art filled with powerful political imagery. Each mural feels alive, offering a raw glimpse into the hearts and minds that continue to drive Mexico’s generational movement. And the food… unreal. The black mole was hands down the best I’ve had in Oaxaca — rich, complex, perfectly balanced — with chicken cooked to absolute perfection. Every bite felt like a love letter to tradition.
