Great place for breakfast when visiting Ojai. Tasty, good service, pleasant atmosphere
Best “take” on a classic diner I’ve experienced! The staff were incredibly fast, kind & helpful. The food was traditional diner with a healthy twist. We will be back on next Ojai visit!
One of my favorite breakfast spots in the county. The staff are so friendly and really make you feel at home. The food is consistently good.
I visited Bonnie Lou's for the first time in August 2023 and LOVED it! The service was excellent- everyone was so genuinely friendly and warm. And the food was delicious! It's a bit costly for diner food but I don't mind- it was worth every penny. I had an omelette with a very nice side of fruit and my husband had a tasty tuna melt. I can't wait to come back for another meal- highly recommend!
The food is amazing! The service is even better. Everyone was extremely friendly. The only downside is that it’s a little pricey but overall would definitely come back.
I always love a good brunch at Bonnie Lu’s! Super quick and delicious - my friends and I love the sit down diner style and this is for sure the best place in Ojai to go if you want that. Also located in a super cute part of town right across from the Central Park area and playgrounds/tennis courts!
The service here was incredible. They were quick, friendly, and the food was amazing. It seriously seemed like we only waited 10 minutes for our food and we had a party of 5! Highly highly recommend Bonnie Liu’s :)
Best breakfast in town by far. Been eating here regularly for nearly 10 years and it's always consistent. The owner Jenny and her crew are really great and the food is killer.
This place is great! Other than my country potatoes being a little cold when they came out, everything was delicious! (I'm sure they would have made right on my potatoes if I'd said something, but my server was so busy that I didn't care enough to bother her). The hollandaise was so freaking good and my partner loved his chicken fried steak!
I think I saw a celebrity here, but the kind you know you haven't seen in anything for a decade and just can't quite put your finger on their name. That's the kind of place this is. 'Nice' enough for an aging red dwarf (C lister, fool) but washed out enough for them too. Service was okay. Nothing to report. I ordered Dennis' Country Special. What a foul monstrosity. I don't know what kind of degenerates they have out in the country in these parts, but thick slightly sweet whitish gravy that's slightly separating after being reheated with small chunks of dried out sausage in it draped over, no, drowning 2 biscuits that a self respecting restaurant would give out for free before the meal, that, that's not breakfast. Fortunately I am myself quite degenerate so I mopped up that tepid thigh thickener with enthusiasm. It's honestly as though they forgot Dennis and his special were even on the menu. When you order it, the waitress offers you hashbrowns, country potatoes, or fruit, with your pile of gravy and bread. I don't know about you but after slurping down all that sauce, I really don't need a ball of potatoes to add to the mix. I made the responsible choice and chose fruit, but let's be honest, this is an incomplete meal, a small fruit cup beside this beast is laughable. But there were no well thought out accompaniments for my beast. And the other special was a half portion of Dennis', but with 1 egg, for the same price, $16, ha! An egg for $8? I think not sir, you've not fooled me. Fruit cup it is. Truth be told I was so disgusted with myself by the end of spooning in the gravy that I almost forgot the cup was there. But it was a refreshing break after the ordeal. All in all, I got what I came for. I'm going to go take a nap now. Thanks for hosting me on this delightful morning Bonnie. Bless.
You know you've found a special spot when you realize that you know each of the servers' names by heart. Besides the warm friendly atmosphere of this place, the food also reminds you of home. You can't go wrong with ordering their soup of the day--it's consistently hearty and delicious.
Such a delicious gem in Ojai. The few places left you can get a fresh chicken fried steak made to order. The food was delicious the staff was friendly. Be careful with the parking though I got s fix it ticket for something I never had called out. The Sheriff's Dept is aggressive there and it's very annoying that I was trying to enjoy a outing with my family just to have to go back to this county over a fix it ticket, very annoying, but nothing to do with the resteraunt, just a precaution.
If you spend anytime overnight in magical Ojai, you definitely need to enjoy some breakfast at Bonnie Lu’s. This old school, downhome restaurant has everything you could want in a funky, homey, delicious breakfast joint. I particularly love the bread and bacon here. The staff is also incredible, especially the lovely Harmony. The location is fantastic, too. Right in the vibrant heart of downtown Ojai. Plenty of parking a short stroll away. Check it out!
If you want great food look no further! We just spent the weekend in Ojai for our daughter's wedding and enjoyed our first breakfast there so much we brought 10 people back with us the second day. The service with a smile is exceptional.
Lovely breakfast spot thats open fairly late for breakfast. Sleeping in is what vacay is all about. They aren’t allowing indoor dining, but we came on a rainy day and sat in the back with heaters. It was great, definitely better than eating in the car. Kim was our server and she was so patient and kind. She made the experience even better than we had hoped! Ordered the biscuits and gravy combo which was yummy! Pancakes were thin and perfectly made.
I asked a local where the best breakfast place was and she directed me to Bonnie Lu's. It's not large , and there are chairs at the counter like an old style cafe. I got there at 9 am ,and there was a waiting line out the door by 10 am , so make sure you're there before 9:30am ( They open at 8 am now). I got the Titus Scramble and it was fantastic with bits of Ortega chiles, sauted mushrooms , cooked spinach, and chicken, with fruit or hash browns, and toast. Loved it! And loved this place. Be back tomorrow!! PS. Back for third time for breakfast. It's still wonderful!
Loved visit to Ojai needed a quick breakfast and discovered a longtime two generation spot! It’s there for quality for love and good food. These little places are where locals know to go! We felt right at home! Service with smiles
This is our second breakfast at Bonnie Lu’s, and we really enjoy it. It’s a warm, inviting spot with charming retro décor. The owner personally interacts with each table, which adds a lovely touch. We’re sure to return again!
This 30 years family owned and operated diner has the ultimate classic breakfast recipes. The staff are extraordinary. Comfortable seating with food that makes you want to come back again and again. Try the thin pancakes or any omelette.
This is the cutest place. Sparkling clean and inviting. We stopped in for lunch but ordered breakfast, which is available all day. A short stack of blueberry pancakes and an egg on the side. The pancakes are huge and filled with lots of juicy blueberries. My hubby ordered the French toast, which was yummy, which came with fresh fruit. Both were top-notch. It's a little pricey, but this is located in prime Ojai. Service is excellent and friendly. We will definitely be back when we return to Ojai in the future. Another customer ordered a tuna sandwich, which look excellent!
Great little breakfast spot, friendly service, great comfort food. We've been several times and will return!
Wonderful experience overall. Big meals for a great price and the friendliest staff. while the food was diner food it still had a true homemade taste, not just open a big bad of frozen foods and drop in the fryer. Felt like stepping back in time to an old family diner. We loved it and can’t wait to return. It’s a nice alternative to the rest of the area.
I was passing through Ojai just as Bonnie Lu’s opened and thought I would give it a shot. It is a cozy, welcoming restaurant with friendly service. I ordered the Denver omelette with bacon instead of ham, and it did not disappoint. If you’re in the area, you should try it out.
My wife and I came up here on a Friday to grab a breakfast date together. Bonnie Lu’s was a great spot to come and gather. Currently all of the seating is outdoor so this might change when you arrive. But I really enjoyed sitting outdoors with my wife and having a breakfast. She got some meal that included half a waffle and she was super stoked because she was also able to get some eggs and bacon with that. I went for the eggs Benedict because I’m always down to try this. The eggs Benedict was super good really enjoyed that. What really stood out to me was the kindness of the staff. They were super patient and helping people get their orders in. Then our server was very friendly. Really enjoyed her. Hope you give this place a try
Had a great breakfast here this morning. The orange juice was freshly squeezed, the potatoes were delicious, and everything tasted fresh and yummy! The service was with a smile and prompt? making for a wonderful experience!
Service was great and food was delicious!! Will definitely be coming back! I got the chorizo plate. (Bread was burnt... Too hard for my liking). The party I was with got apple pie a la mode for breakfast and said it was best they ever had!
I had a wonder salad and time at Bonnie Lu's! We enjoyed our meal as we sat at the bar watching their amazing servers work together as a cohesive team! We will be back for sure!
Absolutely amazing the staff was incredible. The food was 5 star plus best chicken salad sandwich. I've ever had best potato salad. This is a do not miss.
Fresh food, good food, and super friendly service.

Fresh food, good food, and super friendly service.
The best thing about Bonnie Lu's is Bonnie Lu - or someone who could have been her - she was kind of all over the place greeting people, serving up coffee, etc. She was effervescent. Our servers were also attentive and great. I felt like our meals were only okay. I had Dennis's Country Combo. The gravy on my biscuits and gravy was barely warm and the biscuit was doughy, tho the hash browns were hot and very crunchy, just the way I like them. My companion's eggs were cooked incorrectly which, if you're a breakfast place, I feel you should get right every single time.
I picked this place for my family and I to stop at on our way to the Ventura Ranch KOA. It has a super small-town vibe and good service. The problem was that 30 minutes after my son ate the Old Fashioned burger, his stomach went to hell and he had complete diarrhea, feeling lousy the rest of the afternoon and ruining our reservations at the Adventures Ropes Course and Zip line. The others in our group got the grilled cheese and had no problems, so I'm not sure what was wrong with that burger, but I don't think we'll be back there, unfortunately.
Had a good experience at Bonnie Lu's. The food was hot and delivered with good service. The chorizo and eggs had great flavor and had homemade salsa. The biscuits and gravy was also quite tasty. I think the prices were a little higher than I was expecting but it is quality hot food delivered with a smile.
First time venturing into this establishment. Stopped in for breakfast with the kids. Had a nice well rounded menu. I'm a sucker for eggs Benedict, it's my standard breakfast test. Eggs were on point, traditional hash browns and the hollandaise sauce was rich and tasty. Only thing missing was an accent garnishment on top of the eggs. It's a small thing but I enjoy my accents and color schemes. Kids enjoyed their dishes as well. It was decently priced and very nice decor. Would like to try it again sometime.
Each time we visit Ojai we try to stop in at Bonnie Lu's. Inside is old diner style. They have a good selection on their menu. Their sandwiches are so good! Not only is Bonnie Lu's worth stopping out but the town of Ojai always has something going on. Everyone in Bonnie Lu's were nice and helpful while looking over the menu. We really enjoyed our time there.
It’s a really traditional American style restaurant. You can tell the waitresses are really friendly and they’re happy to serve. Multiple choices on the menu. You can always find the dish you like! Some of the food are little too greasy, and the sour dough does not taste the best. It’s a nice restaurant but unfortunately we waited for 30mins to be seated and another hour for the food. Make our dinning experience disappointed. Hope you can improve it after seeing this review!
Easy free parking, located in the middle of town, this friendly breakfast spot might remind you of 'Back To The Future'. Good food, good service, fun old school decor. Recommended.
Really good food and great service. The ambiance is old school the price are reasonable. The eggs Benedict were amazing snd cooked as ordered. The hollandaise sauce needed some flavor but overall was solid
This is the second time I have been here. I really enjoy the food here. It's very home like comfort. Great options! Buckwheat pancakes were a hit! I do wish the portions were a little smaller. We had to share and it was all still too much. I recommend whenever in Ojai!

Pros: charming service, enjoyable food. Cons: $22.47 after tax and before tip for: one egg, one biscuit with gravy and hash browns is exorbitant.

The food is great. But dang, the staff have some chips on their shoulders. Well most of them. Got a stern warning when I didn't know the rule, not to go seat myself after ordering. So here's a warning for everyone else, don't try and seat yourself. Don't touch a single thing. And don't ask about salsa. Apparently these all are trigger points for the crabby staff.
I'm sorry to disagree with most of the other reviews. I had "Country Benedict", which was described as poached eggs on a sausage patty, on a biscuit, all covered with gravy. The sausage patty was home-made and tasteless except for an occasional hint of spoilage. The gravy was a tasteless slurry. The poached eggs were undercooked. The coffee, which was extra, was weak. It's evidently the restaurant has a lot of regulars, so maybe I was just unlucky, but anyway this was my experience.

3 breakfast burritos - just eggs, potatoes, no meat… supposely bacon. $18.95 each plus tax total $60.97 😱
It's not appropriate to advertise that you have "vegan options", when basically I could get some potatoes or a piece of toast. I'm sure your restaurant is amazing, but please don't falsely advertise that I can have an interesting meal there.
