We came here for the afternoon tea set, it was really lovely! I enjoyed the gyokuro tea that I chose, and the scones were warm and delicious, baked british style so more crumbly than american ones! Good sandwiches and macarons, and the service was great! Very attentive, friendly, nice tea sets, and a large assortment of teas to choose from! The atmosphere was very relaxing too! I would definitely come back again!
I’ve been here twice with two different friends about two years apart for the Afternoon Celebration Tea Service. I think we had the same waiter both times; Sam - who is an absolute Angel. The food is so tasty, especially the scones, and beautifully presented. I tried this very special green tea called gyokuro supreme. It was flavorful without being overbearing, a hint of woodsy smoke to it, pure pleasure. I cannot wait to (save up, it’s worth it) come back, a truly wonderful experience.
I went here 3/7/24. I got there at 5:30 not knowing they close at 6. I wasn’t rushed at all. I had tea service and the tea itself was delicious. It was fragrant well balanced and flavorful. I like the variety of teapots , while the tea cups are uniform. It’s a casual environment which is nice from formal afternoon tea sometimes. I would come back again. The servers kept checking and pouring tea. It was clean, the food was larger portions, and it was a calm cozy atmosphere.
I went with my family for afternoon tea service and it was lovely! The selection of sandwiches on the tower was a wonderful blend of flavors and the scones were warm and fresh out of the oven. I got the chai as my tea selection and it was full of warm spices and was delicious with some milk added. My favorite part was the use of mismatched cups and tea pots to give the place a homey feel. Would definitely recommend!
Prior to celebrating my birthday at Chado Tea Room, I was walking around Old Town Pasadena to see what restaurants were having patio dining due to Covid 19. I happened to stop by Chado Tea Room and Samuel came out to talk to me and asked me if I had any questions. He was so attentive and went through the menu with me. I asked if they served alcohol and he said no but that I could bring my own bottle of wine. Also, the restaurant would provide glasses but I would have to open the bottle myself. I told him I was celebrating my birthday and he mentioned that he would set up a very nice table for me and decorate it with linen and make it look beautiful. Samuel was so nice, and with that pitch, lol, I was so excited that I made the reservation right there and then. I'm so I glad I did. True to his word, Samuel set up a beautiful table outside with a pink table cloth and he remembered me. On my birthday I brought a bottle of sparkling wine and he provided lovely champagne glasses. I celebrated with my favorite person, my mom, and we both ordered the celebration afternoon tea service which included a choice of salad or soup (we chose the salad), a 3 tiered rack serving of four half sandwiches on toasted bread, a scone with jam and berries, and delicious cookies and macaroons. I'm not sure if chocolates are included but he served a plate of chocolates that were yummy. The sandwiches were okay. The sandwiches are not your typical English small sandwiches which I prefer. They are actually big sandwiches: chicken (with cranberry), cucumber (with cream cheese), salmon (I did not try it), egg (with chicken). All the sandwiches were decent. And I ate them all, lol. As for the teas, my mom and I were drinking the sparkling wine we brought at the beginning so we didn't actually choose any teas to drink. Samuel brought out a cold tea in champagne glasses. I can't remember the name of it but it was very good. And he also brought a mango flower tea. It was delightful looking at the tea bulb open up inside the pot. It was delicious. Then to top it off, he brings out a complimentary ice cream dessert and blasts a Happy Birthday song through the speakers. I joyfully laughed when that happened. Samuel's service is what made my birthday celebration at Chado's very special and I would go back again.
Exceeds exceptional hospitality and taste in tea and food! The white raspberry champagne tea tasted like the tea leaves were brewed right off the plant and made with the purest water you would ever taste. It was astounding. All the staff were friendly and welcoming. Super attentive and cared about your experience there. The atmosphere was calm and cute. Love the whole experience. Not enough good things to say about this place. Will definitely be coming back!
My husband and I drove all the way from NorCal just to revisit one of our favorite places for celebrations ever. We are celebrating our anniversary and they sure made it feel very special. The service was excellent as always..(Thank you Sam! Gracias!) And the food is simple and delicious. It's definitely a beautiful experience every time. Must try 🥰
Awesome place for hi tea! They have indoor and some outdoor dining areas. (Outdoor area is temporary not sure till when it will be allowed) The servers were very helpful and attentive to us. We didn't find out till after but they also can do afternoon tea for kids. Next time we go we will do that for sure as our son would enjoy that more. They have a ton of nice tea pots and they sell their tea leaves if you want to buy it to make it at home.
This is one of the best places I have been to for a high tea service! Friendly, prompt and offer good recommendations. I honestly look forward to tea and the sweets when I attend one, but this is the first place I have been to where the sandwiches were the STAR OF THE SHOW!!! My favorite was the salmon and cream cheese; light and perfect. The egg one was also good. The chicken cranberry tasted like Thanksgiving itself. Very memorable. I would absolutely come back!
We stumbled upon this tea room with the intention of having lunch at another restaurant on the same block. We're so glad we did as we had a very pleasant experience here with the Celebration afternoon tea. This included a salad/soup starter, a flute of champagne-inspired tea, chocolates, sandwiches, scones, jam, cream, cookie and macaron along with a pot of tea. The staff was incredibly welcoming and sincere and made our visit here very enjoyable. They brought out complimentary ice cream and sang happy birthday for my sister's birthday celebration, which was much appreciated. This is a great place for a variety of occasions, including birthday or milestone celebrations, family gatherings or a romantic date. This tea room is also great for tea lovers as they have over 400 tea selections! This was our first time here and we'll definitely visit again.
I LOVE TEA & Chado Tea Room is worth checking out if you are a tea connoisseur like me. My close friend and I went here for an afternoon high tea. I booked a reservation on their website 48hr prior. Great variety of exotic teas, from black, green, herbal, floral, fruity, decaf collections, etc. The teas are well-prepared and served on adorable teacups & pots. Clean spaces, peaceful, girly ambiance, affordable, warm and lovely customer service. Our server, Sam, was amazing. Sam poured the tea for us, gave us free wine-inspired tea samples to try, and brought a cute birthday ice cream dessert with a tiny real candle which was a really surprising and kind gesture for me! It happened to be my birthday month in August, so it's fitting. I had the St. Marc exotic tea which was delightful with honey, and a vegetarian panini with fresh green salad + delicious tomato soup. It was a fantastic girl's day out, pleasant afternoon, light meal, delicate teas, heartfelt conversations, and we loved each flavors. Please be mindful of parking situation in Pasadena. I highly recommend getting a Parking Passport app and paying 2hr rate from your phone (in case you don't have some quarters in hand), and you can extend the time from the app, very convenient and efficient. Nice place for birthday celebrations, brunch, hangout with friends, cute dates with your lady, or with your aunt, mother, grandparents, etc. Also, make an advanced online reservation if you can. Even though walk-ins are welcome, having a reservation feels more sophisticated in my opinion.
About a month ago my friend and I went to Chado for a birthday tea lunch. We had the best time. It was for my friend's birthday and we enjoyed ourselves so much that we lost track of time and were there for about 3 hours chatting and enjoying tea and the food. The food was not only beautiful but tasted delicious. I loved all the sandwiches, but especially the chicken salad sandwich. I am gluten free and they made a wonderful spread for me. The staff member who helped us was so nice. I appreciated that he let us stay for so long and chatted with us. He was very knowledgeable about the teas and gave us great recommendations. I loved the white cold tea and I got a black tea that was so smooth. I bought both for home. We will definitely return to Chado!
I love this tea room, never fails to please me. I have been to many tea rooms and this is my favorite, and in my humble Brit opinion the best. It’s been a good while since last visiting and this time was no different. We chose the Christmas afternoon tea and my goodness worth every penny we had to box left overs. They even sent us home with a tea cup and saucer which will be added to my collection❤️ was a lovely surprise on opening the bag. Thank you for finishing the holiday season off lovely.
Great place! Service was fast. Our server was Sam and he was helpful, attentive, very polite. Tea and scones were delicious as was the cream and jam. Large selection of teas. Will definitely return.
We came here on a Sunday late morning for brunch. We had a reservation placed ahead of time. Excellent service. Sam was our server and he was great. The food was good. I ordered a panini, the others in my party ordered salads and paninis. The lemon tea was delish. There were two Latino servers for the whole restaurant at the time, they were polite and knowledgeable. The staff in the kitchen is also Latino. Not sure who owns Chado but I hope they pay staff well as the staff does an excellent job of manning the floor and kitchen. Parking is lot parking a couple blocks away. Street parking is also available. Get ready to walk a block or two. Recommended if you want to have a nice brunch or nice tea with friends and family, or with a loved one.
I had an amazing time having a high teatime here at chado tea room. I was lucky enough to get a birthday special as well as to try the seasonal Christmas tea time menu. I had a great experience. Sam was my server. He did an amazing job the ambience of the restaurant is very nicely lit room has an upper echelon European feeling in a minimalistic way. If you like very quaint places with delicious menus, this is gonna be perfect for you.
Wow what an incredible time! I hosted a 17-person bridal shower tea party for my best friend. Sam, Alfredo, & Perla did a fantastic job helping our group and ensuring we had an amazing experience. The service was top-notch from the high-end teas to the scones, sandwiches & macaroons. I would recommend them over & over for all parties that want to hold a special event. Thank you to the entire team. It was so memorable!
Chado Tea room continues to deliver every time ! Enjoyed a special Valentine tea package this evening with our amazing server Sam . He is the reason we continue to go back every year to celebrate special occasions. Loved all the yummy bites and amazing tea that doesn’t even need sugar . The tasteful teas are so flavorful . You can taste all the ingredients with every sip . The Scones are the best in town ! It’s a must try . Ask for Sam, he is the best ! You won’t be disappointed , if he is your server ! Thanks Sam for your giving us top notch service with a Smile . You make us feel like family . We will see you soon for another celebration.
Was absolutely wonderful! I love Chado tea room and out of the three locations I've been to, this definitely has the best atmosphere for a tea service. It's absolutely beautiful inside and everyone was so friendly! I also loved the selection of tea, we got to try some new ones and the champagne tea will forever be my favorite! Also the food was delicious, I highly recommend the celebration tea package, even if you're not celebrating. The soup is delicious and is worth it for the chocolates and champagne tea!
Sam and Ariel did a wonderful job!! We had our Women's Fellowship gathering and we all had a fabulous time. As a Vegan accomodations are not always available for meal options. I called in advance and arrangements were made for me to enjoy finger sandwiches, fruit, and dessert, along with all the tea I could possibly drink. The lavender Earl Gray was very good 😋... Couldn't resist asking for a to-go cup, and they gladly provided.
An exceptional experience! I hadn’t been to this location for over a decade and it was such an enchanting afternoon. Make sure to get reservations on a weekend, and my best friend and I did the birthday tea, there were so much amazing food and such great service. I can’t wait to go back!
Me and my husband came here for a nice little afternoon tea before hitting the shops for small business Saturday. It was lovely setting, themed for Christmas. Sam our server was very sweet and attentive. The food was good, especially the scones. Enjoyed everything on our tiers and would definitely come back next year.
I made a reservation for late afternoon on a Sunday. Unlike other tea houses, where we often have to make reservations weeks in advance and may not be guaranteed a good spot or seating, I was able to secure a reservation just a few days before our arrival. It had been about 13 years since my last visit, and the experience only got better. From the greeter to the waitstaff, we received fast and accurate service. The greeter and waiters primarily spoke Spanish, and one of our guests was able to communicate with them proficiently in their language. The food, tea, and pastries remained as fresh, delicious, and full of flavor as I remembered from my last visit to this and other locations. Their prices are also extremely affordable; compared to tea at a hotel, their prices are about 30% less, but the food is just as good. Right before we left, the servers offered to take photos for us, which was a rare treat since they had already closed the tea room and we were the last guests. You can tell the tea room is nicely decorated, providing a warm and cozy atmosphere perfect for any event, such as a birthday, bridal shower, or any occasion. I highly recommend this and all locations of CHADO TEA ROOM for anyone looking for good food and service at an affordable price in a cozy and homey environment.
We came here while visiting from Phoenix. It's was an absolutely lovely experience. I will say that they don't have the best "service" in that they may be understaffed, so you don't get a lot of attention. However, they have excellent service when they do come by. We were somewhat difficult as all four of us had the afternoon tea, and we all made changes to what we ordered. There was some mix up on the sandwiches and it was addressed very quickly. One of our group also can't have gluten, and she said that the bread for the sandwiches were amazing. They also made very nice accommodations to her tea service that made her experience enjoyable as well. The food was phenomenal. We all enjoyed everything. I'm a huge strawberry addict and these may have been the best strawberries I've had. They were quite popular with the table. The scone was also ridiculously good with the jam and cream on it. I literally went to heaven. I would absolutely recommend this place, but make sure you have maybe 2 hours to spare. Also, they were doing a birthday celebration event. It was not my birthday but it's in a month and as a joke, the server did bring me something for my birthday and it was really fun for all of us.
What a delightful way to enjoy a mild day in Old Pasadena. Afternoon tea at Chado Tea Room exceeded our expectations. Our server, Sam, made it a wonderful experience. Turned into a 3 tea experience with the last pot being Sam's recommendation of butterscotch with milk. The tray of sandwiches and sweets were also delicious. Scones were served warm and were delicately crisp. Lovely indoor dining space, but we sat outdoors to enjoy the sunny day. Highly recommend this establishment.

My sisters and I brought our mom here for her birthday last week, and we had a great time. The selection of teas was fantastic, and the service was phenomenal. I plan on coming here on my own to just treat myself and wind down. 10/10

This was a perfect, girly place for a bridal shower. Service is quick and we had an amazing time. The tea is served in various crafted teapots. We had soup/salad, 4 different sandwiches, scone, and macaroons. I gobbled up the tomato soup as that was very delicious. My least favorite was the cucumber/cream cheese sandwich as it was underwhelming. Overall, great experience in the heart of Old Town Pasadena!
it was great! the service was excellent. the inside was a little cramped at the LA location but the outside seating was nice, it also seems it was attached to the Japanese-American museum the food was all delicious we got the celebration afternoon tea service. the only downside id its right next to the road so it can get kinda loud. its also next to to a little Tokyo shopping district.
This was a spontaneous and new experience for me that was quite elegant. The display of many teas and tea pots were nice with all the tables close together for an intimate and quiet ambiance. The mixture of tea and chocolate is a strange but surprisingly a sweet ride for the taste buds. A nice place for a quick date either morning or evening. Only concern is the small path to the restroom did not have a nice smell that I hope they tend too.
A gem to visit in Pasadena especially if you want to spend some quality time with your significant half. Overall atmosphere is great. Tea selection is magnificent but the food can be better
My friend made a reservation at Chado and invited me to go with her after lunch. Since I hadn't been there since COVID, I was glad for the opportunity. The restaurant was fully decorated for Christmas--even in November. There was a beautiful Christmas tree right at the entrance, and the whole place felt warm and festive. Since we had just eaten lunch, we didn't have room for a full afternoon tea set, so we decided to share a pot of tea and each ordered a scone. I got an orange cranberry scone, and my friend chose a blueberry one. The tea came out nicely, and the scones were good as well. My friend enjoyed the clotted cream so much that she finished the whole thing. The surprise of the day was when Sam, who served us, brought us a complimentary taste of champagne. It was such a thoughtful gesture and really made our day.
We came to Chado Tea Room in Pasadena for a friend’s blog launch and had a lovely time! The setting is beautiful — cozy, charming, and perfect for an afternoon tea hangout. It does get quite busy on weekends, so definitely plan ahead. Each of us had a tea set that came in the classic three tiers: scone on top, sandwiches in the middle, and cookies at the bottom. The salmon sandwich was our favorite — super tasty and fresh! The teas were excellent too; we had the lavender tea, which was fragrant and calming. Service was friendly and attentive, though parking was a bit of a challenge. We ended up parking about 10 minutes away and walking over. Still, it was worth it for the experience. A lovely spot for tea lovers and gatherings with friends! 🍵✨
Date of visit: June 2025 I came back here with a girl friend to have tea. Reservation was easy to make but probably unnecessary on a weekday morning. There were no other parties besides the two of us. We got the Chado afternoon tea for $28.95 per person. The sandwiches were good, and the scone was ok. The cream and jam made it so much better. The Mauritius BOP was supposed to be a popular tea, and it was not bad. Service was lacking even though we were the only patrons. There might have been a language barrier. The tea pots are so cute! -Bathroom in the way back, past the kitchen -metered street parking or paid structure -RSVP if you're going on the weekends **menus are from June 2025**
Friendly and attentive service, reasonable prices, and large selection of teas. Brought my elderly mother for her birthday. My mother enjoyed it and she was given a special ice cream treat with a candle and Happy Birthday written in chocolate. That was a great touch. The sandwiches and scones were edible but could be improved. The scone was really dry. Tomato soup and salad were good. Overall a good experience.

Food: We ordered the Chado afternoon tea set. I was quite disappointed with the food because they just didn't taste good. The scones were dry and hard. The sandwiches were dry and bland. Even the dessert felt like they were store bought. I'm not a person who usually wasted food, but I had to leave a piece of sandwich untouched because it was that bad. Also, they would charge extra for sharing the afternoon tea set, so we were kind of forced to order the same thing. Service: We were chatting after we finished eating and the waitresses started cleaning our plates away and asked us if we wanted the check. I felt that they were rushing us to pay and leave, so my friend had to politely ask her if it was ok for us to stay a bit longer. Perhaps she didn't intend to rush us but the fact that we felt the need to ask for more time was just uncomfortable. I mean who would want to feel rushed at an afternoon tea? Atmosphere: There was a wall of tea pots and tea barrels so that was nice, but the other decor was rather boring. Compared to some other afternoon tea cafes I have been to in the area, there's definitely more room for improvement.
My daughter and I had a reservation for this tea room. First time coming to this location. We ordered two chicken paninis the worst food we have ever had. The tea was nice. Waiter was nice. They should just keep to tea.
I made a reservation here for Valentine’s day afternoon tea and the overall experience was really a let down. Service was okay but food and dessert were not worth $70/pp. I’d expect better quality pastry and dessert option especially with such high rating. Desserts look like they came from the bakery section at Ralphs. The table next to us also left the entire desserts plate untouched. Cute ambiance but we will not return.

Very below average high tea experience. I’ve had a fair amount of high tea across different cities and this was far the worst experience. Food - the tea sanwhich were decent but nothing special. The salmon on the sanwhich was not fresh and smelly. Scones were ok but all tasted the same. The variety and type of food served was highly disappointing as it really was so basic. Dips were chocolate or whipped cream with strawberry. It’s only filling if you eat the scones. We got 2 tea, one fruity and one more savory. Tea were better than the food itself. Price - overpriced. If you’re sharing, there’s a sharing fee, everyone needs to get their own food. $25+ for one serving of high tea which is so basic. Ambiance - antique vibe with a lot of carpet. Smells old and outdated. Service - nice sever but slow and inattentive. Very average. There was one or maybe 2 other parties on a Saturday late afternoon and they didn’t check in on us. We had to call them for assistance. Would not recommend and would not be back. Cleanliness - bad. The seating area is decent but smells funky. The way to the bathroom is their open kitchen and tea bar and wow, it smelled like vomit. The bathroom was dirty and unkept. We were still finding our food and they were cleaning 30 minutes before closing time, making us inhale cleaning supplies
We have gone to many teahouses in Los Angeles. But this one was such a disappointment. Typically, the server will give a history or explanation of all the teas. The server here just wanted to take our order. I asked for cream, it never came. Typically there are sugar cubes placed in containers. There was only packets of sugar. Typically the pot of tea is steeped and the tea bag in left inside the pot. The tea tasted like teabags you purchase in the grocery store. When I looked inside, no tea bag was present. We received scones and they were as large as a dinner roll. The bread on the sandwiches was toasted. Never had this before at any tea house ever. The chicken salad had large pierces of chicken in it. The cucumber in the cucumber / cream cheese was 1/2 inch thick. The whip cream tasted like kool whip. The jam tasted like smuckers. We left most of the food there. Summary: the last server was very friendly. The first server just wanted our order. The middle server never came back with the cream. The food was not very good. We will never go back.
This place came highly recommended so we made a reservation for 1PM on a Sunday. We were seated quite quickly but waited for our food for 45 minutes. Hope you’re not extremely hungry by the time you arrive! Food/Taste/Flavor: 2/5 - Chicken tikka panini: the bread on the panini was great but unfortunately the chicken was extremely dry. The house salad was light and refreshing butoo much oil in the dressing. - Chado Afternoon Tea Service with Rooibos Burbon (T-211). The tea was pretty good but I wish there was a way to keep it warm since it took almost 45 minute for the food to arrive and wanted to save some for the meal. The four half sandwiches had meager fillings, were not toasted, and just on white bread with the edges cut off - The scone was pretty good with cream which gave it some sweetness and the marmalade which gave it some tartness. It crumbled as you cut into it and this was my favorite part of the tea service - Limerick sandwich was cucumber with cream cheese which was light - Souchong chicken sandwich was a shredded chicken sandwich which was interesting with the cranberry sauce in the mayonnaise - Punjab sandwich just tasted like an egg salad sandwich which was disappointing since it wasn’t really seasoned - Smoked salmon sandwich was a bit dry and has a really fishy smell. Usually if the salmon is fresh, you wouldn’t have that smell association - We ordered a cream of tomato soup enhancement which never came - The macaron (not macaroon!!) was very sweet and sat on some chocolate drizzle with powdered sugar on top - The butter cookie had half a strawberry on it which made the middle a bit soggy. Since it’s at the end with the macaron, it seemed a bit too sweet and almost a bit stale in texture where it wasn’t exactly soft nor crunchy either Ambience: 3/5 - it was pretty crowded inside so thankfully we were able to sit outside. The seats outside were on the street but shaded. The tea sets are random and the tea cups are random and they don't match their plates. The tea pots look different size and the tea cups are different sizes. We got the same base plates but vastly different tea cups... Questionable for an establishment focused on tea. Service: 2/5 - there may have been a shift change since the original server we had never came back but the second server was nice. We tried to grab his attention to ask about our soup order but he may have been preoccupied and just kept walking past our table. The soup still didn’t arrive as we finished our meal so we asked him to remove it from our order. When he checked on our orders, he was really apologetic and gave us a scone to go. Value for price: 2/5 - quite pricey for the food quality since the sandwiches were mediocre and the macaron/cookie seems purchased rather than baked in house (notice it’s not on menu to purchase individually). Would recommend just ordering the scone by itself. Our sandwiches had paper-thin fillings and were not toasted like pictures from other reviewers. It was good to try once to have the experience but I would not do again at this price or quality
My family booked a Baby Shower at this Chado Tea Room location and was quiet disappointed with our experience. First it was difficult to get a hold of the event coordinator Tek and when I was able to talk to him it was very difficult to understand him. The week leading up Tek confirmed we would have 2 tables of 10 but when we arrived to the venue we had one table of 20. The table spacing was extremely tight and overall the entire venue was so crowded. Our food was served almost an hour into our time frame and the teas were missed labeled when served to us. The venue was very loud and there was only two bathrooms which was also shared with the restaurant next door. The food was just mediocre but I was mainly upset with the seating arrangement and how loud and crowded the tea house was. For a high tea experience I would not return to to this establishment. I would definitely try a different Tea House next time. Also some of the plates and cups we were served were chipped or very faded.

WILL NOT BE BACK. It's been ages since I have been here, and I was excited to come back! Was disappointed with the food and service. The tomato soup was too salty, the crust was still on some of the sandwiches, and the service was not up to par. The staff weren't very friendly and you could tell they didn't want to be there, and that sets the tone. The table setting appeared to be thrown down, as some were missing forks, or placement of items were off. The tier came out and was missing jam on one of them. Needless to say, I will not be back.
My experience was so sub par that it was almost shocking. We did the Halloween tea special, ended up paying $75 each. The iced tea was only 1-2oz in dirty plastic flutes from the dollar store. The tier had a flat plastic bat cut-out hastily scotch taped to the top, that fell off halfway through our time there. The sandwiches were stale horribly made, on cheap white bread. There was a plain Vons cupcake on top, with a tiny macaroon and sugar cookie. The scone was the only good part. I was hoping that the “free gift” would make up for it. I was thinking it would be a lovely little tea cup or something. It was a solid blue, thick stocky mug with lain white lettering that was a collaboration between Chado and some non profit. It looked like something they were actively trying to get rid of, like an afterthought. The entire thing was something I would maybe pay $20 for, certainly not $75. (You can see what I’m talking about from the photos) I spent years walking past this place, wanting to check it out. So disappointing.
