The best Michigan in town. When someone visits from out of town you have to take them to Clare and Carl's. It has a great atmosphere, friendly staff, and delicious food. I recommend a michigan and fries but anything you order will be great.

Michigans were on point! Sauce had great flavor!car hop Service was fast and friendly !! 3 dogs, fry and a ring for 13.00 bucks, well worth the 6 hr drive

I just want to say that locally this is the best place to get Michigans, hands down! I come here multiple times every year because of not only their Michigans but their amazing Chicago Dogs as well! The service here is always spectacular, even when it's jam packed! I love the car side experience as well, and the friendly wait staff! Every year I get excited when they open and sad when they close, but it's always something to look forward to again!

Simple menu, good quality, fair prices. It doesnt have to be complicated to get the job done. Going here is like taking a 80-year step back in time. An old building where you have to duck down to get through the small door. Horse-shoe indoor counter, or outdoor picnic tables with umbrellas. They have car hop or table service. Seasonal location but will certainly go back. Thank you!

Rode 140 miles one way just to have Michigan Dogs. Worth the ride. Great service. Excellent dogs, fries and onion rings. Lots of parking and plenty of outdoor picnic tables.

Funky old building, real carhops, and the best darn Michigan sauce on hot dogs I ever ate! Seriously, they should bottle that up and sell it. I stopped by yesterday (August 12) and it started raining, and the carhops just kept going! I come through Plattsburgh a few times a year, and I'm putting this place on my must-stop list! Update on July 23rd 2025. Everything has gotten very expensive. A Michigan dog plus a Pepsi and onion rings cost me almost $20. They taste very good but I'm not sure it's worth that much. EDIT: There was a response from the Owner which included the email address. But the owner has not responded to my emails.

Clare and Carl's is a must if you're in the Plattsburgh area! The food is tasty, the prices are right, and the vibe is pure nostalgia! How often do you eat in a restaurant that its back end is sinking into the ground? We saw people with trays attached to their car doors eating their food that way, and others eating at picnic tables, but we recommend eating inside so you can properly soak up the quirky ambiance. Go get yourself a Michigan and some poutine. Yum!!

Staff was super great and under standing. The Michigan is where it's at... A lil spice but super tasty... The poutine was amazing and the tenders were crunchy and perfectly golden. If ever you wanna stop somewhere for lunch and are in the area it's super worth it. Price was on point and the wait was short but not to crowded.

This place is super cool! They bring the food out to your car, you don’t even have to move! My only complaint is the burger is a little small, and same with the fries. But it’s incredibly cheap and incredibly good tasting. Would definitely recommend this place over Gus’ red Hots or Michigan's plus. Great food!!!!

Simple hotdog / burger place with fast friendly service. There is more than just meat on the menu but if you’re looking for a salad, you’re in the wrong spot. I loved the unique diner with carhop service. Such a charming place to get a Michigan Hotdog 🌭

I have been craving a good hot dog for a while and man did this place not disappoint. Small menu means they know what they are doing! We tried the Michigan and Chicago... Sooooo good (especially the Michigan!) Cash only, small eating space outside and inside as well. The perfect place to stop after a day at the beach! All the people working were very friendly, great service!

Pretty cool little place! Unfortunately, if you want service at your vehicle (and don’t know the menu), they tell you to go on FB. (Which I don’t have, but was able to get pics of the menu inside). The waitresses were pretty nice and there was a place to eat outside (and limited seating inside). Visit if you like fries and hotdogs ☺️

We make an annual trip to Plattsburgh and the highlight is always lunch here for the best Michigan dogs in NY. The poutine is excellent as well. A must for anyone visiting the North Country.

Such an awesome hot dog stand. I tried the Michigan dog, the Chicago dog, and the poutine and they were all delicious. And at about $3 for a hot dog, you can't beat it. The food came out quickly and the staff were all super friendly. Cash only but they have an ATM on site. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area!

When you're in the North Country, you absolutely have to stop at Clare and Carl's! The Michigan is a regional food to the area and you won't find a Michigan anywhere else outside of the area. The meat sauce is incredible, fries tasty, and the service is top notch! I can't wait to go back.

Great day and 1st time here, warm & friendly staff. Lunch was delicious. Their Michigan sauce has a little spice, and their Chicago hot dog had the best mix of flavors. Poutine was delicious with crispy fries and overall really good.

We stopped by here on our way home from traveling and really enjoyed it. We had the Michigan dog, yummy! And the poutine, the poutine was good, fries gravy and cheese, the only thing missing was the cheese curds but there was melted cheese. The service was great and loved the throwback in time atmosphere. I would definitely stop here again and the.price was great too!
