The food was great, and our server, Sergio, provided excellent customer service. The vibe of the place was amazing. The manager, Chris, frequently checked in on our table to ensure everything was satisfactory, which was very professional. My kids had a lot of fun when the bear made a surprise appearance. We will definitely be back; I highly recommend this place!

Still my favorite restaurant in the East Bay area. Terrific staff, delicious, fresh food, keto possible, good hot fresh coffee! Any season I can get what my body yearns. Crunchy salad, eggs over medium that are never cooked till they are brown. The whites are set and that unctuous yolk is warm and runny. Their pancakes are light, thick and so tender, they don't even need syrup. Iced tea that is fresh brewed, never fountain! Great food but excellent staff! They know you when you walk in and that feels like home. ❤️

This Black Bear Diner earned my 5-star rating. When I first got there, I wanted to eat outside since I had called beforehand and they said that dogs were allowed if you ate outside on their patio, but when I got there the person that helped me at the counter told me that the patio was closed for bad weather. But on the day that I went, the weather was actually good and it was only about 2pm, so I didn't understand. So I asked if I could just eat my food out there, and then they said that it would be all right and that they would actually still bring my food out there for me and everything. The other staff were very nice and welcoming and accommodating, so this place definitely earned my five star rating. The food was also really good and cooked perfectly, especially the french fries.

Our meal and experience were just what we expected. The restaurant wasn't terrible crowded and our dinner were served quickly. My food wasn't very hot, so if you like your food "piping hot", you may want to make that clear. STRONG Decaf. 😂

Visiting from out of state, my brother introduced me to the Black Bear Diner in Pleasanton, California. We tried breakfast, lunch and dinner on several different occasions. I was so impressed with the menu, food quality, and service. One young lady by the name of Suzanne seriously impressed me. When this young lady walks up to the table, her smile is genuine and not forced. I have extensive experience within the restaurant business from a server to a Manger position. I always strived to find people like Suzanne but never came across such an individual like her. Suzanne anticipated your wants, needs, and desires in dinning. Always paid attention to her guests and makes you feel like not only an important customer but as a friend. The food as well as the overall atmosphere is fantastic! I highly recommend the Black Bear Diner for a fantastic overall dinning experience. I give this exceptional restaurant a 10 out of 10. A fine dinning experience you will definitely love.

Classic Americana diner. I had the hot turkey open face sandwich and it was tasty and filling - just like Thanksgiving dinner. I had asked for it to be served with Sourdough rather than white bread, but that request wasn't followed. I'm not the type to send food back for something small like that. Have been here several times and the meals have never disappointed. To be transparent, it’s only been for breakfast. With that said, staff has always been pleasant and the food has always been very good with spot-on service. Can’t speak for the other meals (lunch & dinner) but breakfast has always been consistent. Stop in for at least breakfast and you shouldn’t be disappointed.

Use their signature sauce. Put it on everything your heart desires. They have baby burn, mama burn, and papa burn. perhaps my favorite part of the meal was their sauce. Too spicy, my dad simply mixed it was ketchup to enjoy with his scrambled eggs. Their coffee is 100% nicaraguan blend if that sort of fun fact entices you.

This establishment offers a commendable dining experience. The food portions are generous, and the pricing is consistently competitive. The service consistently exceeds expectations, and breakfast items are available throughout the day.

Stopped here this morning for breakfast after the PG&E power shutoff. Even though the place was crazy busy. We got in quickly. The staff was friendly and food was great!! I ordered the Griz which is one of the largest things to order on the menu. pancakes are definitely a must have!

The exceptional service started from the moment the manager seated me and continued until my server cashed me out. I ordered the Shasta Veggie scramble with biscuit, adding gravy for just $1, which was well worth it. I also enjoyed fresh-squeezed orange juice and coffee. Although not pictured, the banana cream pie was the highlight of my meal - it was divine. Great portions and a clean dining area made for a wonderful experience. Kudos to the entire team, including the bus boys, server, cooks, and manager, for a job well done.

Black Bear Diner is always reliable for tasty food at a reasonable price. The service is always top notch and they are very accommodating to children. We enjoyed a nice dinner here after attending a long event at the fairgrounds. A big delicious dinner was what we all needed and boy did Black Bear deliver just that! I had the new Chicken Caesar Melt with sweet potatoe fries and it was so good I was quite happy to bring some home for lunch tomorrow.

Really good comfort food with spacious dining tables and extensive menu selections! We got the homestyle fried chicken plate, french toast, and loaded macaroni and cheese. Less sticky than IHOP, more expensive than Denny’s and a nice log cabin atmosphere. This restaurant has all the typical American breakfast options. I got the Grizz and it was very middle of the road in terms of flavor. Presentation was very interesting as they served my pancakes with the eggs on top. Not sure if they ran out of side plates or if this is standard practice. I know some people will say “but John it’s all going to the same place!”, and to that I say; I don’t care. Honestly for the same price ($19 + 20% tip), you could save time and money making this at home. Hope this helped

The Black Bear is a classic American Diner that specializes in breakfast. In fact, their breakfasts are phenomenal. We fancied our local Black Bear recently for a Brunch treat. My husband had a basic scrambled egg plate with hash browns, sausage, and toast, with no complaints. I enjoyed a take on Benedict that swapped ham for tri-tip and English muffins for their famous fluffy biscuits with a side of what looked like potatoes O'Brien. The only issue I had with my food was the blue cheese topping - it was totally unnecessary. How ever the food was enjoyable. Our service was good, not too much, not too little, and the coffee was fresh and hot. If I had to complain, I would mention one annoying fly buzzing sound but regardless I would eat there again with out question. Facilities are clean and well maintained.

My church group had brunch at this restaurant, and we were seated in a large room at the back, which was perfect for us because it provided maximum privacy and ensured that our noise wouldn’t disturb other customers. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the staff is friendly. The food is fresh, and the portion sizes for coffee and juice are generous. I would definitely come back to try their breakfast!

I decided to make an order to go for Country red potatoes with a special request of cheese on top, avocado toast, and grits. The atmosphere gave a traditional country diner vibe, 5 out of 5. A customer who was leaving complimented the font host on his service so I'll say that's a good sign. The dining room looked clean and the floors were clean. On my order they forgot to put my grits in the bag and the potatoes were slightly under cooked for my preference but the portions were hefty. I'd go back and make sure to tell the cook to make sure the potatoes are well done and to add some herbs and spices.

Good food, big portions, good service. We've been to Black Bear in Pleasanton a few times. The service is always pretty good, and no complaints about the food. The atmosphere is cute, of course outfitted with bear theme all over. Despite the purposeful throw-back decor as a salute to the history of the restaurant, sometimes it still feels dated in a bad way. But if you consider it is an homage to the history then you get over it. It has a bar setting, booths and tables. There are cute themed items you can purchase at the front. One time I ordered food to go, and even though it was a hot meal, when I arrived I was a little disappointed to see that my food was wrapped in a box and plastic bag waiting for me at the front of the restaurant by the host desk, where it is well air-conditioned. Needless to say, my hot meal wasn't hot by the time I received it, and took it back to where I was eating. My only other "complaint" is that you have to pay at the counter, instead of being able to pay at your table. It's not too bad of a nuisance, it's just not common these days. The food is great, definitely worth going, and we will definitely continue going back. In my photos you'll see a plate of hash browns - that is a SIDE of hashbrowns, so that gives you an idea of the portions. They definitely intend to send you home with a box or bag of leftovers, so you know you're getting a good amount of food for your money.

I have been at this location previously and everything was great. To be fair maybe I should have rated it then. However, today it was not a great experience. I understand the long wait because it was busy, but I expected once we get a table that the food and service would be as good as in my previous visits. The food was brought to the table without utensils, I asked for the utensils when we received the food and we had to wait 5 minutes until they brought them. I had asked for water when we placed the order and they didn't bring it until we were almost done eating' and not until I had to ask for it again! I ordered chicken strips and the waitress brought it without any dipping sauce. Granted the waitress asked me after bringing the food if I wanted sauce, but I should have been asked this question when we placed the order, so now I had to wait few more minutes before they brought the sauce. The fries were good and the rest of the family had good food. My chicken strips were not great, not what you expect when you go to a restaurant like this. I had better chicken strips buying them frozen from the supermarket and heating them in the microwave!

I will give them two stars because earlier this year I had a terrific Eggs Benedict. Wanting this again, I came tonight and was seated. Only to be left alone for 20 minutes while new guests get their drinks and orders taken. So I just left. Really disappointed.

Came here on a Tuesday morning and the doors are locked at 10:30 a.m.?? There's no signs saying it's closed, and the hours posted on the window say it should be open now. Three people just exited and told me that the power is out and they can't order anything.

No vanilla in the pancakes... Ever Black Bear I've eaten at has vanilla in their pancakes. It was disappointing to be honest.

Worst pancakes I ever ate! So surprised because I had very good pancakes at black bear 🐻 diner in Oakley, but this time at the restaurant in Pleasanton was a whole different experience. The pancakes were extremely dry, under cooked and tasteless. It was a pick up order and I had to cook the pancakes at home, unfortunately it didn’t work and I ended tossing them into the garbage. My five year old nephew can make a better pancake.

Literally the worst meal I had in a long time. We stopped by mid-afternoon for a bite after going car shopping. The host/server was very pleasant and welcoming. We were seated and placed our order. 5 minutes later (no joke) our food was brought out. I was shocked. Clearly this food was prepared long before and the quality showed. The eggs were extremely over cooked, rubbery and slightly burnt, the hash browns were dried out and tasted reheated. The worst of it all was the bowl if grits. The cook literally took hot water and poured it over the grits. They weren't even cooked. We called a server over asked if it could be cooked longer. 10 minutes later the same bowl of grits returned dried out and lumpy. The grits were microwaved. The server actually brought extra butter to “soften” the grits….hahahaha… Are you f’ing kidding me… Clearly the cook has never made grits before and the server knew it was bad. He was super polite and tried to remedy the situation by discounting the meal. We politely requested the check, paid our bill and left. We will never return to this location again. The One star was for the server….

We ordered delivery . The food deserves zero stars. 1. Chicken tenders- 0 seasoning . Not even a grain of salt 9r pepper. . 2. Turkey club- again absolutely flavorless. Turkey had 0 salt or seasoning. 3. Same with the chicken sandwich. The avacado and tomato was the tastiest part of this mess . 4. Fries- hot fries, piled on top of the sandwich n the box sealed shut. Result , one sorry soggy mess. 😵‍💫 5. No straws for the beverages. No ketchup for the fries . 6. 3 entrees but just 1 set plastic ware . But, I did receive 2 containers of strawberry jam 🎉. Such a waste of $70. Never again

The first time I came here, I had a decent experience. But today, I ordered the meatloaf and it was luke warm. My green beans, same. But my mashed potatoes were super cold. I had the minestrone, which was decent. But my cornbread muffin was pretty cold. I couldn't even eat my dinner, so im taking it for lunch tomorrow and ill microwave it. Going to bed hungry, tonight. 🤷‍♂️
