First visit to Hall & Woodhouse and was really impressed. It's a large modern dog friendly pub with plenty of seating over two floors and outdoors. We ordered both from the bar and app and the service was excellent. The menu is large with veggie options and the food was well cooked, presented nicely and tasted great. A relaxed atmosphere and well worth a visit.

Fantastic eatery with a great drink selection. Very impressed with the friendlessness of the staff and the great atmosphere. Dog friendly with good menu

Only popped in for a quick drink, ended up eating there. Special offer on a Wednesday, burger and fries for £10.95 as opposed to £16.95, bacon and cheese were extra. Very fast service, friendly knowledgeable staff, dog friendly. Well worth a visit. Check out the offers on the boards outside. Please note I had eaten half my chips before taking the picture.

Came for the £10 Sunday roast deal, left with a smile. Firstly let me comment on the service, barman was very friendly and took our orders cordially. Food came within 15 minutes but no quality spared! Obviously a popular Sunday dinner choice. We ordered the beef and chicken. Beef was as described, pink in colour and extremely soft. Chicken was great portion size and vegetable pairings were spot on. All for £10 each! These days you can’t get a baguette and a coffee for £10 but this filled us both up and was great value. Will be back.

Fantastic place, great for a cup of coffee and a cake, to a full meal. Quirky construction, built of old shipping containers, and it is wonderfully comfortable inside. The staff are what makes for a good restaurant...or pub...and H&W staff are all excellent. There are a few car parking spaces outside the building, and more exist in the car park behind the building opposite. Be aware of the colour coding....and don't get caught out! Otherwise it's street parking and a walk in. Further to my earlier writing, we held our reunion for 40 former Merchant Navy Officers and the staff from H&W were wonderful, the food was brought from the kitchen to the tables in a timely manner. Everyone was impressed by the standard of the food...and the service. Thank you to everyone serving on the night.

The roast was excellent - I have to say the service was really really good there. The team were friendly, chatty, offered water for the dog without being asked. I would definitely visit again

Delicious food. Whatever you choose to eat, it's always very nice and fresh. Crunchy fish&chips smell lovely and so they taste. Hake on couscous and veggies , mmm yummy.. We love the staff and often pop for a drink only too. Lovely local place, looks so cosy now at Christmas 🎄

Excellent everything. Location, interior, service, quality of food, attention to detail (fudge sweet with my coffee) and reasonably priced. Tartar sauce a bit too garlicky for me but thats being picky. Overall top score.

Went there with a friend who found it on a Britain's quirkiest pub guide. Great location offering 2 levels of service with a dog friendly lower dining area. Good food and friendly staff. Well worth a visit.

Amazing service! After being let down by another restaurant in Portishead, we visited this place and they were superb! Warmly greeted and told there would be a delay for food due to the kitchen catching up which was fine as we were a walk in table and they communicated this before we placed our order. Within 16 minutes our food had arrived and it was so tasty and delicious, we also went for dessert which was great too. Helpful and kind staff. Looking forward to visiting again in the future.

Fabulous lunch, great doggy friendly and made to feel welcome not just ticking a box. Fresh water for the dog and treats. Food excellent, good choice of plant based. Marcus is gold dust and a real credit to the H & W brand. 100% be back Veterans discount Mon to Fri a great added bonus

Had a lovely evening, last evening,,celebrating a family birthday. Food was good and as we'd pre ordered all of our meals came out at the same time. Staff were very friendly and attentive ,hopefully be back again.

Lovely private function room upstairs for my friend that had organised the use of it. Buffet food was brilliant and a lovely selection. Would have been nice if there was a bit of music downstairs or something and if the servers were a bit more present.

Attended for a lovely family meal last night for a big birthday! 20 of us in total, preordered food and all came out at the same time. Great atmosphere, amazing food and lovely staff.

I come into H&W regularly on Friday during the day to meet up with friends. We thoroughly enjoy the atmosphere and the beautiful marina/waterside location. The staff are always smiley, friendly and welcoming. The menu is interesting and varied, something for everyone!

Been to H&W several times. Varied food menu and great drink selection. Staff are friendly and helpful and its dog friendly. Visited various times of the the year nice and cool in the summer and cosey with a fire in the winter

Booked a table last minute to have some lunch. The food was very much enjoyed by the whole family, the roast was huge and so delicious. The team were amazing, great service, Thank you!

Honestly one of the best pubs in Portishead. The newest edition of the games room (darts, pool, shuffle board, table football) is fantastic. Food and beer are a little pricey in comparison to the rest of the town, however it is so worth it. Atmosphere, quality and vibes are perfect. Ideal for big groups, date nights and a chilled drink by the marina. Big shout out to Marcus for the hospitality/hosting - he’s been here for years and works round the clock to ensure you have a great time. Much love team H&W!

Came in last Saturday with my family for drinks and food. What a wonderful place. Friendly staff especially Laura and Sarah. Reading previous reviews I don’t understand the negative ones 10.30 is not an unacceptable time to close if it’s quiet. Will definitely be back.

Very good choice on the menu coupled with variety of beers, lagers & ciders as well as wines. Great service & pleasant ambience. Will go again when next in the area.

Came for a family gathering and pre booked a table. It was great and ready for us on arrival, it was Sunday and we were able to stay at the take for around 3/4 hours. The food was nice with a good selection of Sunday roast and the normal menu. However, a few menu items were not available. The food came in about 20 mins but was on the cold side. It tasted amazing but would be nice if it could arrive hot. Overall, a nice place where we will come back too. Great for groups.

The service was good and the waitress was happy to help and very attentive. The food was tasty and had reasonable portion sizes. The beef burger was slightly pink and I would have preferred it cooked for longer however this is personal preference. The prices of the food are on the higher side however not unreasonable. I would visit again and recommend to friends and family.

Pub food but boutique-ish presentation and portions. I opted for the steak and tangle foot pie, which was great. The cabbage was lovely and the mash was good. The only disappointment was the portion could have been slightly bigger for the mash and cabbage. The atmosphere was good and the place was full. We went on a Tuesday and it seems this is the weekly bingo night and a lot of the tables were booked from 7pm onwards, so keep this in mind.

Really delicious food here, Sunday lunch is great and not very expensive but if you fancy a nicer meal I’d recommended it also! For me the desserts this place offers are exceptional. No real downside apart from the price for their everyday menus. Really nice staff here too!

Great place to eat, very dog friendly. Exceptional pie! And desserts! Salad was a little disappointing

Very spacious interior, excellent service and a good range of beers, gin and non-alcoholic drinks and mocktails. The Hall and Woodhouse chain is consistently good and still feels local despite its group size. I visit the Bath one regularly. In this Portishead pub you have many dining and drinking areas, even some quirky private dining spaces. We sat upstairs and played Scrabble on the evening we visited, it's a quieter space upstairs but you can still enjoy the buzz of the pub. A bar on this floor also means you haven't got to get up and down the stairs with drinks.

Great Roast we all enjoyed it Staff friendly service good but then it's not cheap. Great view from 1st floor too

Very unlike other H&W pubs we've visited before. Good choice of beers and the food was very nicely presented. A guitarist was just setting up while we were there.

Been here a few times as I was working in the area, staff always friendly and the food was quite good everything I visited. Service was good and food delivered within a good time. Soup was really nice. Worth a visit.

I love this place. I tried their pizzas last week, but unfortunately, they were quite mediocre. I ordered the goat cheese pizza; the dough was too thick and there was far too much tomato sauce. They did use good quality goat cheese, but the sauce and the heavy dough overpowered its flavour. They make really good burgers though, so I hope they improve the quality of their pizzas.

Had a stop over in the marina, went in for a bite to eat, some staff friendly others quite sharp and somewhat direct ( maybe a late night) meal and drink choices are good, however for me it’s way overpriced for what you get and quality of ingredients. I’m guessing it’s the location to the marina, shiny boats means high prices. Would I go back I’d certainly have a look round first but ultimately yes I would.

Hall and Woodhouse is built using old shipping containers which, in itself is, is interesting. It has just a few parking spaces but that is a little limited. The food was okish but wasn't particularly hot being served on cold plates. Some of the meat was a bit tough too. The service was good and efficient.

A
Ann Szmagala

My meal was microwaved! Was as hot as lava! The flat bread was like a shoe sole! Shame as I had a tangine and it was very tasty. The choc brownie was too hot to eat! My partner had a chicken flatbread and that was fresh (the bread anyway) because it's a restaurant, I don't expect microwaved food. Even though i pre booked we were sat on our own not in the main restaurant, someone walked in and got a seat in the main restaurant :(

We came today to share the 3 for £17 small plates. We went to the hall and Woodhouse in Taplow few months ago and ordered the same. I was able to share with a family member plenty of food. Today the portions were so small. 4 breaded mushrooms fro £5 something. Very poor value. Won't be coming again shame as its so local to us

Food was okay, not bad but overshadowed by an issue. When we visited, just before Christmas, the room temperature was awful, it was uncomfortablly cold. My wife spent most of the meal with her coat over her shoulders. Took the edge off of the whole experience. We did say about the temperature but met with it's okay for the staff (who of course are running around waiting on a number of tables).

Half our table received their order in good time but half of those had to send it back as it was cold and when it came back it was still coldNearly 40 minutes later the other half of the table received theirs after enquiring at the bar. The seating was odd and thanks to the lack of blinds and low winter sunshine, half the table of 12 couldn’t see the other half. Not that we could talk without shouting.Don’t think I’d want to chance my arm if they were busy. Food was nice when it turned up though…

Food was "edible" but not good at all. You could say most of the food journey started from the freezer and ended in the microwave or fryer. Triple cooked chips that we've ordered were just ordinary chunky chips, would have expected proper homemade ones. Phillycheese steak sandwich no comment... barely any meat in there, bread was soggy and no taste at all. Ordering was made easy thanks to QR code on tables and able to pay directly while seated. Food arrived quite quickly (another sign of chef Mike there in the back of house). Cannot say much about service as was very quite and we technically took our order ourselves. The atmosphere was relaxing and good furniture. Perhaps they should invest more in food quality and less in interior design. Definitely overpriced. Maybe worth for a pint, do not recommend spending money on food

Beef was raw not pink No Apple Sauce and was given no crackling although advertised with pork Disappointing as last time we sat upstairs had great service and nicer food

Embarrassingly disappointed. I live near Blandford and opted for H&W in Portishead as that’s where H&W originate from. We walked in at 2045 to order some food and the bartender said he would check to see if the kitchen was still open as they had been quiet. We were able to order. However, the food was so disappointingly bad. The chicken wings tasted like they had been heated up in the microwave and then had barbecue sauce squirted over the top of them. As I got to the end of the dish, I stopped eating them as they were that bad. For the main course, I ordered a Dorset rack of lamb and received one tiny lamb chop with two bones, some very old and dry peas, asparagus and potatoes. I asked the bartender if this was correct as I had ordered a rack of lamb and he said that is how it comes! On top of this it was £19.95! There was no offer to resurrect it and no offer to receive money back or a discount. If it wasn’t so late and I wasn’t so tired, I would’ve 100% asked for my money back and left. I will not be recommending or going to a H&W again which is a great shame considering it is my local brewery. Update: Michael (deputy manager) at Portishead contacted me and has genuinely sought to rectify the issue. Much appreciated and well noted. 👍

Unfortunately I really wanted to love this place but the food let it down and this is the second time I’ve come here and left feeling this way. For starts, the company really needs to either reduce the price of their dishes OR they need to up the quality of the food they are serving and make the portion sizes bigger. The major let down for me was being served mouldy raspberries on my pudding and someone else who ordered the same pudding too. I also noticed that they had all been placed mould facing down so it wasn’t noticeable until I moved them… now does that mean I was served mouldy raspberries on purpose!? I don’t know, but the kitchen staff should be doing much better. I will say we were given x2 £10 vouchers at the end as an apology.

I do not recommend the Sunday beef roast, very disappointing, the taste of the beef was grizzly / Yorkshire pudding tasted like it just come straight out of the freezer. The waiter who took our plates didn’t even ask how the food was, considering the amount we left uneaten…

M
Mandy Goodhill

Came for a drink with some friends, overall service was good except for one very rude member of staff. The venue closed 30 minutes earlier than advertised on google which I understand is probably the done thing on a quiet night however customers had no notice of this. We were then approached by an older member of staff with glasses. She was very rude and rushed us to drink up so they could close and go home. During this interaction she was making comments under her breath which made us all feel very unwelcome. Not the correct way to go about customer service in my opinion and we won't be visiting again.

M
Michael Beazley

The restaurant was cold and draughty. The food ranged from okay to only- just-edible and was very overpriced. Although friendly when asked, the service just didn't happen without asking.

Went in for Sunday roast. Paid £16 and then £4 each for pigs in blankets and cauliflower cheese. Cauliflower cheese was hard and inedible. The potatoes were luke warm so we asked for new ones. When they arrived finally we had nearly finished our meal. The potatoes were bruised as seen in photos. Absolutely disgusting. The sirloin of beef was also chewy and overcooked. Overall terrible meal and definitely not worth the money. When we complained, the young barman said "oh sorry guys". That's not good enough!!!

J

Came in to order some food , cashier rolled his eyes at me . Then when I finally got the food I asked one of the waiters for a take away box and he proceeds to have a conversation with another worker for 10+ minutes in front of me so I just left with the food in a napkin . Won’t be back !
