Avis sur Khao Kang Queens
Love the casual and easy lunch concept of choosing from a few ready made dishes to accompany steamed white rice so I can try multiple ones. The garlic black pepper pork is amazing and everything I chose was very flavorful. So good. One of my favorite Thai places in the city.
Who would have thought you’d get such raw, authentic Thai food in Queens, NYC? This is real Thai cuisine — not toned down to suit foreign or Western taste buds. Even compared to the Thai food back home in Singapore, this felt far more unapologetic and true to its roots. From the bold spices to dishes like sour bamboo shoot fish, every bite genuinely transported me straight to Thailand. Food was freshly prepared and tasted fantastic. Portions were generous, and prices were more than fair — three dishes with rice for about $16. A must-visit if you love authentic Thai food. Skip it if you’re here for Pad Thai with a special request for zero spice. 8.5/10 from me. 🌶️🇹🇭
Price went up quite a bit within the years but if anyone wants to try multiple authentic/tasty dishes in a single meal, this place is the best one you can find. It does smell inside due to fish sauce and etc but feels homey. Food is spicy!
Although there are tons of good, no, phenomenal, Thai places along that strip, Khao Kang is unique. The food is pre-prepared and served cafeteria style. 3+rice is $17.95 with a wide range from mild to ped ped, clearly marked by a helpful color code. I could eat here every day. Nearly my perfect restaurant. Cash Only.
Can’t say I’ve been to many places like this in the USA. Extremely authentic Thai curry shop. I’m sad there isn’t something like this in Vegas (unless there is and I don’t know!) Tried like six dishes. All fantastic. Only complaint is cash only. But I can understand why a business would be that way in this economy. Just be prepared!
Had a great meal at Khao Kang! I ordered the garlic pork and ginger chicken combo with a Thai iced tea, and everything hit the spot. I was so excited to dig in that I totally forgot to take a photo of the food, but I did manage to snap a pic of the Thai iced tea. Great flavors, fast service, and generous portions. Will definitely be back to try more.
A true Thai flavor!. Trust me. I'm a Thai that left Thailand to the states for the first time a month ago and this is my best Thai meal since I'm in the US. The value for price is great and is a true concept of Khao kaeng in Thailand. the style and the display is so accurate. The taste and spicyness is just right. The fried pork is really great. And the sweetness of it when eat with the blandness of rice makes it perfect and it is my favourite. It's simple but not all fried pork are made equally and this is one of the best ones. The beverages also a slushie too so that's really cool. My lovely Thai friend showed me this and it's so enjoyable. And there's so many desserts to try to. My 1 dish meal with 3 kinds of food and 1 drink cost me 10 dollars. That's rare for me too. So if you are around. Go try and have fun do it Thai style way where you go and select different menus and top on rice. FUN FACT: Khao kaeng or khao rat kaeng, meaning "curry-on-rice", is a traditional type of fast food restaurant in Thailand which specialises in ready-made curries, and often several other dishes as well, served with rice.
If I could give this place five Michelin stars, I would. This is hands down one of the best Thai eateries in New York City. I’ve never been so impressed with the flavors they have to offer. From their spicy curries, decadent garlic pepper pork, succulent seafood options, and palate cleansing desserts, you will leave this place wanting to come back every week. You can do a two dish entree for $13 and 3 dish entree for $15. I highly recommend getting the 3 dish option, so you have a chance to try more of their delicacies. Make sure you bring lots of cash before coming here. The servers are also incredibly nice and generous with the amount of portions they give. Be nice to them and leave them a tip, because their kindness and hospitality is truly unmatched. Eating here makes me feel at home. The dishes are homemade, and the flavors will make your palate burst with satisfaction. My absolute favorite to get are the garlic pepper pork and pork larb. It’s spicy, tangy, and will simply leave you wanting more. I would recommend this place to friends who have a craving for spice, or want to get a taste of home and remember what proudly makes them Thai.
3.75 More than a couple of years since I last went here. Now $17 for 3-combo with rice, $16 for 2. Prices have gone up. I do like the option to try small amounts of dishes esp. the ones I am not familiar with, as opposed to a whole order of each. Got Yellow sour curry - too spicy for me to have the sauce so only took the fish strips (4 small pcs) and veg. Black pepper pork - sweet, tender pieces, a relief from the other spicy dishes. Spicy fish - with eggplant. More batter than fish though and slightly chewy bec. cold. Wished the food were hot/even warmer, so this is a difference from getting food freshly-cooked. Service was amiable. Walls were opened up during the warmer season/days so airy indoors; plus outdoors tables covered by umbrellas. Meter and street parking if driving. By train, walking distance from Elmhurst Ave. stop.
This is authentic Thai food, just like you would find on the street in Thailand. I especially like that they serve the soup on the side. However, the rice was disappointing — it seemed low quality, not fresh, and lacked the firm texture of good jasmine rice. My recommendation: order the dishes without rice and pair them with your own freshly cooked high-quality jasmine rice at home. That would make the food taste even better.
The price is a flat $16 for a plate of 3 Thai/Asian viands and rice. Viand choices include fried glazed pork, braised pork belly with soy egg and fried tofu, shrimp green beans, fried fish fillet with mixed vegetables, pork bamboo shoots and more. They all taste pretty good (many with a nice spicy hot kick) but the portions are small for the price though sufficient to get full more or less. Just in case you can’t finish your food you can bring it to the counter and they’ll doggie bag it for you. Desserts like mango sticky rice and coco milk jelly are available for a separate price. Note that if you’re eating-in (more orders are take-outs) you have to clear your own table or they’ll call you for it.
