Ce que disent les clients de Cafe Rio
Cafe Rio in Redlands is known for fresh, tasty Mexican food, especially the wet burritos and Chile beef tacos. Service can be excellent, with mentions of Ari going above and beyond. However, some customers report inconsistent food quality, cleanliness issues, and understaffing, especially near closing.

I want to give a big shout-out to Ferris at Cafe Rio, Redlands, Ca. He is consistently working hard and multitasking, whether he’s at the register, cleaning, sweeping, washing windows, or whatever else needs to be done. He’s a true hard worker. What impresses me most, though, is the respect and kindness he shows to my 73-year-old mother when we come in together. On one visit, my mom asked if she could have her drink while I was still ordering food. By the time Ferris reached the register, I was already there paying. He gave me the receipt but held onto the cups and said, “I promised your mom I’d get her drink.” He then filled her Diet Coke and personally brought it to our table, even though he absolutely didn’t have to. That level of thoughtfulness and follow-through speaks volumes about his character. As someone who has worked in corporate environments before, I can confidently say Ferris is a class act and definitely managerial material. Keep up the good work!
If I could give 10 stars for service I would! Ari (sorry if I spelt that wrong) was amazing, my husband and I came in near closing (this is important) we ordered our food and while waiting I noticed the mint lemonade machine had been taken down for cleaning. I asked about it and Ari very nicely offered to get us some ❤️❤️
I'm glad you liked the previous review! Here's a review for Café Rio Fresh Modern Mexican that captures your experience: ⸻ Review for Café Rio Fresh Modern Mexican ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I recently visited Café Rio Fresh Modern Mexican, and I have to say, the food was incredibly fresh and delicious! It's a bit of an adjustment if you're used to processed foods, but the freshness is definitely worth it. If it's your first time visiting, they'll sing you a song, which is super fun! Amber was absolutely amazing and gave me the option of the song. I mean, how often do you get a song with your chicken salad? So, of course, I went for it! They have fire-grilled chicken and a Pollo asada chicken (along with other options of meat as well). I asked Amber about the difference in taste, and she offered me tasting cups for both. I decided to go half-and-half, and it was the perfect choice. Just make sure to speak up initially if there's anything you don't want on your order. Amber was welcoming and made my first visit pretty memorable. I'm definitely looking forward to returning with family and friends. Highly recommend giving Café Rio a try!
This place, first of all I love the food it is so delectable. Even my sister who is super picky and she hates cafe Rio, she finished her bowl. My cousin ate the rice and the beans meaning it’s yummy too. The bathrooms I don’t know about. But there is one worker who is very good at his job and his name is Alberto. I’m going to buy a shirt that says I love cafe Rio!!!!!! 10/10. Oh let’s taco bout it!! (Edited) I will also like to say that a lot of people are saying bad things about the food they got. I was like that too, I didn’t like Cafe Rio at first because i ordered such plain things. But the thing is you just need to ask or find out what you like and try new things. Their tortillas are very soft and big or their nachos too are very good. Many people should be open to trying new things and finding out what they like at Cafe Rio so you can have a good experience at Cafe Rio. That’s all I wanted to say, just some advice for the people who didn’t like Cafe Rio the first time. Always try ordering something different again!!🥰🤗
Avoid going at night time/near closing, Lots of popular choices become unstocked. Music is good. Food is good. Serving is PLENTY. Comparison towarda Chipotle, you pay 10$ for a bowl here you'll think it's Thanksgiving. Their sauce could use some work honestly. I went on a rainy day so I think the workers all just wanted to go home lol. Service is... well... okay I guess, there wasn't anything bad, they were all chill. Great place for takeouts.
This was my first visit to Cafe Rio and I would definitely come back. I ordered the Chile beef taco with beans and rice. I will definitely order it again. Their tortillas are made fresh as needed and they have a wide beverage selection. Additionally, I would like to highlight the rewards program. It's easy to use either online or through the app, no coupons to print.
I like the food here for the most part. The workers are nice. We’ve ordered take out a few times and it’s usually pretty good. There is room for improvement! The kitchen isn’t the cleanest, and the chicken tastes burnt sometimes. 3/5. I snapped this photo last night - y’all need to learn to cook your chicken better.
If you like Tex-Mex you may like the Rio. I personally did not. I ordered the burrito enchilada style with chili pork. The pork was smothered in sweet bbq sauce which was a shock as I was expecting spicy. I also wonder why they have very bad store bought chips but make handmade tortillas. Won't be coming back again.
Zero sense of urgency shown for months now on Tuesdays. Team members appear lost and wandering at times. If a team member is on break, no one takes over their station. There are 7 visible employees working, zero people the line (no one’s in line), my online order is nowhere to be found, and preparation wasn’t started until 20 minutes after my checking in. It took 25 minutes after my pickup time and I ordered 45 minutes earlier an hour before their 9 PM closing time. I checked in within a few minutes of walking in. It’s good food, but service on this shift is just not led well. For about 20 minutes, there were zero customers going through the line and no one was making my food. Their singular focus was to prepare the restaurant for closing. 6 people cleaning and 1 preparing food AND ringing up. They’re out of pico de gallo, all aguas frescas, several soda syrups, corn salsa… Not much was going well. They offered guacamole to replace the pico de gallo and offered some soda cups.
Rude employees Saturday noon on 3/7/26. These guys should go work at the local DMV. The food was assembled in a sloppy manner. Also the lettuce they usually put on the side was very different than any other rio I've been to. It resembled a precut bag of lettuce than the typical iceberg lettuce they serve on the side. Won't be coming back.
I like the food here, but experienced an asinine visit tonight. Thursday December 4th at 8 PM, there was one young woman scrambling like crazy to fill orders, tend the tortillas, and accept payment, while two guys cleaned the kitchen. I'm all for keeping a kitchen tidy but this was deep level closing time cleaning a full two hours before closing. This made the line longer than necessary and one employee should not have to do three or four jobs while two others leisurely move about mopping and such.
What happened to this place? It used to be my go to place years ago. Totally different place now. Drinks are watered down, soda was just carbonated water. There used to be somebody making fresh tortillas, now the tortillas just sit to the side cold, the meats are mostly sauce, I don’t know man, nothing was fresh, or worth coming back for.
Not impressed. The first time I visited this place, I ordered a burrito in a bowl to take home, and when I went to eat it, the chicken was burnt and the whole thing tasted awful and bitter. A fly landed on my plate, so they replaced it with a new one. I asked the two people who served me to put the hot sauce on the side of my plate, but they ignored me and put it on top. I will definitely not return to this restaurant.
This place used to be THE SPOT. Now its turning into the spot to avoid. Service is always slow, rude, and the food is handled with a lack of care. The line hardly moves, no one is ever at the register to address guest concerns, bathrooms are gross, often covered in pee soaked floors, the drink station is always a mess either put of stock, out of order, or overflowing with ice and liquid in the soda machine. Im unsure what happened with this location, but after seeing it continue and slowly decline over the years I have to leave a review.
The most horrible cafe rio I’ve eaten.. on Saturday 02/21/26 around 7pm the staff on that shift looking very unprofessional talking like they at a kick back while had nothing ready meaning meats, tortillas floors dirty, trash fill , kitchen floors dirty and that tattooed man coming out with a plastic apron to flip the chicken with no gloves on Very poor service everything you ask for on the menu is incomplete do to them not cooking nothing and or not being on top of it some mature manager needs to in this place and it’s sad because restaurant is in a good area and all those kids not well trained is gonna bring this places to close
We had just ordered a tortilla soup for delivery since we were sick at home. The soup was cold, which can be a little understandable. What we can’t understand is that instead of chicken and black beans, there was just a big glob of cheese. Thank you Cafe Rio for solidifying the bad reviews you currently have. I would rather eat at McDonald’s, because there they happy meals… you on the other hand, have sad meals.
Normally a welcoming environment entire experience felt like a burden for asking for corn. They had nothing it was 11:40 am yelled stating they didn’t have any last night they are doing their best!! Understood!!!! Despite driving 40 minutes to have this complete waste of 35$food wasn’t hot at all chips were stale !!!
Used to love Cafe Rio. But it is no longer managed well. They have too few employees. At this location, the man grilling the meat was texting on his phone and very disinterested in his work. There was only one person assembling the food on a Friday night. Location is messy and restrooms were awful. After standing in line for 40 minutes, we left. We will never go to Cafe Rio again. I wish it were only this location that we have had poor experiences at, but the one in Eastvale was awful as well. Employees all looked like they hated their jobs and when you were in line they would avoid eye contact so they didn’t have to help you until they were ready. That location closed already. Sad because the food is delicious.
Have attempted to order through their website for delivery several times. 2 hours before closing and they have consistently been out of steak. It is an absolute mess to get it canceled. This was the last chance. Won't be ordering or going to cafe Rio anytime soon or ever.
ordered a chicken burrito for delivery on doordash. they slapped beans and rice on the plate, then just topped that with a flat tortilla (no rolling involved), threw some sauce and cheese on top and assumed i wouldn’t notice. extreme waste of money.
EVERY SINGLE TIME we've been here for an online order pickup we're left waiting around for 10-15min while the employees are all chatting in the back and not paying us any mind even AFTER our order is sitting on the shelf and ready. And the last visit they did not include the drinks that we paid $7 for! Then, an employee comes over stating that everyone has to wait for tortillas to be made while I'm staring at my order ready on the shelf. So, I had to yell to get his attention to ask, "Isn't that a ready order?" And then he handed it to me. Seriously? We only show up when they have deep promos because they can't seem to get the order right and the service is abysmal. And there were very few customers there dining but no one in line. There was no excuse for the carelessness or lack of service. Period. Where are the standards?
I am absolutely disgusted by the behavior I witnessed at Café Rio last week involving an employee named Aiden. He was offering customers a discount if they completed a survey stating that he was an “excellent employee,” which already felt unprofessional and manipulative. What made things worse was hearing him openly laughing and joking with another man about a bad review — talking about it in a completely inappropriate and personal way. That kind of behavior is not acceptable in any professional setting. And to top it all off, today I personally witnessed him speaking to one of the workers in the lobby in the most disrespectful, demeaning way imaginable. While she was off the clock. It was hostile, harassing, and absolutely disgusting. He belittled and bullied her right in front of customers. If I was her I would have immediately contacted an attorney. No employee deserves to be treated like that. It was beyond unprofessional — it was abusive. Until Aiden is fired, I will never step foot in that Café Rio again.
Usually when I come into this establishment the employees are friendly, the area is clean and the food is great. Today, it was a completely different story. I was appalled on how unkept the counter was where they keep all the food. There was food all over the place and there was a lot of cross contamination going on. We came in at 7:50 pm and they had many items unavailable including drinks, which was surprising because they still had 2 hours left until closing. I have come before during this time, if not later and I have never experienced that. The drink fountains were piled high with ice. The employees seemed completely out of it and quite unprofessional. Three employees were off to the side with drink cups, not helping the other two employees at the front. The food we received was cold and we had raw pieces of rice. This was a very unpleasant experience and was quite disappointing.
The quality of the food here has gone down tremendously. It is always a hit or miss (most often misses) regarding the quality of food received. They are not properly training their employees or making sure they are ready to build the food. There was a new girl who just barely started today and was making the food with the most unacceptable food portions. I had the smallest burrito I’ve ever had there and barely any chicken at all. She was not confident and was very lost (this is to not bash her as a person it was her first day, this is more so towards the environment that I saw she was subject to just as a customer observing). The employees seemed to not be helpful towards her when she needed help and also weren’t that friendly. There was a girl with pink hair who was not that professional and almost seemed judgmental that I didn’t want lettuce or pico on the side of my “burrito”. The only friendly and professional worker there was the guy at the cash register who was helpful. After paying for our food and getting our drink, we go to sit down and eat and the food is unbelievably salty. The side tortillas we got were salty as well. The soda tastes like fragrance and not at all what it’s labeled as. This will probably be the last time coming here because spending $40 for this awful service and food is not worth it, especially when there’s no evidence of consistency in quality.
I am really surprised this establishment hasn’t been shut down by the health inspector. Walking into this place a lot of empty tables with chairs not pushed in, a lot of food and trash on the floor, also the bathrooms were more filthy than a park in downtown San Bernardino! Blasting rap music coming from the kitchen interfering with the restaurants music… their trash cans inside can use some cleaning by one of the plentiful amount of workers that were in the kitchen. Boxes laying around on the kitchens floor…… this just makes you think what it looks like behind the counter.
This is my first time coming here and I let it be known that it’s my first time and I wanted a quesadilla and I asked the second time if it could be made less juicy. The lady keeps telling me how to do her job like I can’t physically see how she made my quesadilla So I told her nicely, I don’t like my food soggy, and that I would like it to be cooked crunchy on the stove please. And she keeps telling me to look at the stove and see all the broth coming out of the quesadilla Which I already seen I was just asking if she can make my quesadilla. Well done because my first quesadilla was so soggy it was falling Apart, when I went to take a bite. And then the whole experience was just no communication no reassurance I Said that it was mine and my mom‘s first time here which you would think they would accommodate that we don’t know how it works. It reminds me of a chipotle experience where you order on one side and work your way to the end side, telling them the items you want on your plate Overall, my experience was not good at all.. the food wasn’t good either. Very dissatisfied and disappointed. 👎
This place deserve 0 stars. The surveys were rude and the fresh drinks were empty and nasty and when I asked them about it they said we're working on it with an attitude and the restroom were disgusting and broken. This was also not worth the $65 for 3 people and the small portions.
