I have always had amazing food at The Melrose Grill! My husband and I usually cook our steak at home after being disappointed by countless restaurants previously. We decided to try The Melrose Grill on a whim and we were not disappointed! We had phenomenal service, deliciously cooked and seasoned steak, yummy vegetables. Highly recommend this to anyone looking for some good food to eat 😋😋
Love this place! Great service, amazing atmosphere and the food is fantastic! Especially the steak. I love steak and this place is better than Ascend but you pay less. Great place for just a dinner for one, a romantic date or nice outing with friends.
Had the extraordinary experience of celebrating a late Valentines day at the Melrose Grill. Our server Egypt made us feel exceptionally well taken care of, and had phenomenal suggestions for the menu(Thanks for telling us about the "Chicago style" option!) The entire staff is always lovely and accommodating, and are so prompt with their service. You will not find a restaurant in the state that delivers such perfect steak both in flavor and accuracy of temperature. No drowning in butter, no over-seasoned messes. Clean flavor done phenomenally with just the right amount of everything. The desserts are to die for as well(picture attached; the steaks did not survive long enough for a photo.) Worth any distance and wait for a special night. Can't wait to come back!
I would highly recommend this place for a nice evening with great service and excellent quality. I had the New York Melrose Cut and added grilled prawns, loaded baked potatoe and baby spinach salad; which were all fantastic! The brule cheese cake with blackberry compote for desert was just right for a nice finish! The service was top notch, I will definitely be returning for more..
Emily makes amazing cocktails, Mel is very attentive to service, Paul is super friendly and fun and Egypt will leave you laughing. Devon Carter is on the grill Wednesday to Sunday and puts his heart and soul into every steak that leaves the kitchen. I have never had a bad experience with the food or service. 10/10 highly recommend
I absolutely love The Melrose Grilll! It is definitely more of a special occasion place for my family, but oh so worth it to splurge when you can. The food is always delicious, the service is amazing, and the atmosphere is lovely. The desserts are fresh / hand made. If I could go more often I would.
Amazing place, never disappoints. They have the best Steak in town. I always order ribeye medium rare, consistent taste everytime and the best pepper corn sauce and the Parmesan roasted potatoes that comes with the steak. Definitely worth the wait time and the money. I highly recommend this steak house if you are for the meat not the looks, or appetizers. If you are a meat lover this is your to go place. They box the food for you and they usually have wait time so make sure to reserve Sorry the steak was too good I couldn’t have time to think of taking a picture 😋
A small steakhouse rich with history. Surprisingly superb quality stakes. Even though our Vista was later in the evening, the wait staff was excellent at keeping us happy.
Melrose is my favorite place for a steak! Great quality for a great price. ❤️ Everyone has always been so nice and welcoming. Absolutely love it here! I do suggest having a reservation for the dinner rush but walk ins are absolutely welcome.
Emily us an excellent server. Delicious food, yummy drinks, and fun with friends and family. Totally recommend. I have gone here for my last three birthdays.
2025 update: Still our go to spot, this time for seafood! Catch the special while it’s still on the menu, two large fresh Maine Lobster dinner 28oz, perfectly cooked! 2024 update: Still my favorite steakhouse, cut of choice has changed from Delmonico or filet mignon, to ribeye (medium rare+ lightly salted, they can go a little heavy handed on salt crust, pic included), loaded potato instead of crispy Parmesan. Love this gem, make a reservation a week in advance or if you don’t mind about 1-1.5hr wait. Enjoy! A hidden gem of a local steakhouse—delivering near top-tier quality at a fraction of the price. You’ll get rich flavor and satisfying portions without the upscale markup!
Melrose Grill is truly a gem in Renton! From the moment you walk in, the warm and inviting atmosphere sets the stage for a great evening. The staff is professional, attentive, and genuinely focused on making sure you have an excellent dining experience. The steaks are absolutely top-notch—perfectly cooked, tender, and bursting with flavor. You can tell they use high-quality cuts and take real pride in their preparation. The sides and appetizers complement the meal beautifully, and the wine list offers plenty of great pairings. What I really love is the balance of upscale dining with a cozy neighborhood feel. It’s the kind of place that’s just as perfect for a special occasion as it is for a relaxed night out. If you’re in Renton or the surrounding area and want one of the best steakhouse experiences around, Melrose Grill is a must-visit. Highly recommended!
Everything was great. Portion sizes were more than adequate. I really appreciated the anchovies on the Cesar salad. It made me very bite incredibly delectable. The Cajun pasta was rich and well cooked with a decent amount of seafood. Lastly the crème brûlée was just ok as the flavor was very light. I did however enjoy the nuts on the side.
This place was amazing. I loved everything we ate. Upgrade the salads if you can, worth it.
All of our orders are perfect! Steaks are so good that you don't need any steak sauce, pasta are too much and we have to take the left over home 😋
We liked the dishes that we ordered. The steaks were tender, well seasoned. Same with the duck breast dish. Everything was great.
Price was about $30-$100 per dish. They give you a menu but then they have a board with their specials on the wall which are a bit more pricey. It gets loud. The dress code is casual and chill. I do love that the recipes are grandma recipes and from scratch like the dessert. Service was amazing and the bussers were phenomenal. Once your plate is clear they pick it up right away.
Very moody restaurant with lots of charm. We had a great meal and everyone liked what they ordered. Service was very attentive. I would recommend for a nice dinner out. There is not a strictly formal dress code but most guest were dressed up.
We had a great experience at Melrose Grill! The Caesar salad was very good, and the steak was cooked well and flavorful. We also enjoyed the crème brûlée—it was a great way to end the meal. The waitress was friendly and attentive, which made our visit even better. Overall, we had a wonderful time and would love to come back!
The BEST steakhouse near Seattle area!! This is my go-to place and the food is always amazing and the price is very fair. Our server, Angelo was very great and he made our dinner even better! Definitely coming back very soon!
This place is absolutely amazing, and an extraordinary value. The customer service was top notch, and Mae treated me very good with her service. I do not live in the area, so this was my first time visiting the Melrose Grill, but it is a refreshing change from all of the blah over priced underwhelming food restaurants these days. I ordered the brochette with prawns, and it was truly amazing. You get to try both their New York and ribeye, I had mine, medium, rare, and it was salted and seasoned perfectly. The Parmesan crispy potatoes were a nice mix up from the traditional baked potato or mashed potatoes, and the fresh steamed veggies were also seasoned to perfection. And they were not over cooked, there was a slight crunch to them, which is the correct way to steam vegetables. The atmosphere is also wonderful, as I believe this is an original location from 1901. Thank you for the great dining experience.
This is hands-down my favorite restaurant in Renton Washington. I think the steak is just as good if not better than the big steak houses in Seattle like El Gaucho in the Metropolitan Grill. But it's not just the steak that's great here, the fish and other Seafood, the chicken, and the desserts are also fantastic. The staff is super friendly, and the service is great. This is a smaller restaurant, so you will want to make a reservation. There is also a really great, but small bar here as well. You can order full menu at the bar too. Bottom line is I highly recommend this restaurant to anybody that likes really good food for a reasonable price.
Been coming to this place for years. Best steak under $100 dollars. Service is always excellent and the filet mignon is superb. The lobster tail is excellent as well. When you tell them medium-rare, it's medium-rare. I think probably 1 time in the past 10 years I had them send it back for a little extra time on the grill. They have a decent wine list and exhaustive list of draft beers. I can honestly say this place rivals the 5 star alternatives in Seattle and Bellevue. The atmosphere is somewhat formal, but more laid back than El Guacho. Price is excellent for the level of quality and service. Make reservations because there is almost always a wait.
Parking can be tough to find even when dining early, but it's worth the effort once you get to your table. I had the 9 oz. Filet and ordered medium rare but it came more on The medium side. My son ordered the same thing and his was a touch more medium rare than mine was. The steaks had a good char on them adding to the flavor. We left room for some dessert which was the Creme Brulee and peach cobbler. Both were absolutely delicious!.
We visit a few times a year. We are never and I mean NEVER disappointed in our service, food or drinks. Make your reservations and go! Steak is our standard go to, but we went outside our lines and got the Melrose Stroganoff and the Cajun Seafood this time. Their staff is attentive, kind and knows the offerings very well. Renton's steakhouse gem.
Great experience, we ended up walking in on our Anniversary without a reservation and were seated with ten minutes of arrival! We ordered the Filet Oscar-Style plus grilled prawns and the salmon then finished with the lemon tart and peach crisp. The steak was cooked perfectly and the sides were great but it could've gone without the zucchini. Overall an excellent experience for food and service.
This is the place to go for fine dining in Renton. Excellent food, quality and friendly service, and a nice chill atmosphere that isn't too loud. Creme Brulee is a must have.
Beware there will always be a wait so make reservations if you can. The service was very good and friendly and the food is delicious. Reasonable for what you get. Getting a steak "Oscar" style adds a crab and scallop sauce over the steak. Comparable or a little less $ compared to other steak houses. Will go back.
Historic Downtown Renton Melrose Grill is a corner restaurant established in 1901 with public parking lot across the street. The food was excellent and the service was exemplary. (Friendly and professional, anticipating the needs of every diner.) We all ordered something different, Steak Brochette with Grilled Shrimp, Steak and Lobster, Mashed Potatoes and Sausages, Sea Scallops and King Crab. (Veggies and rice or potatoes included.) Everything was perfect. Definitely recommend this place for a great meal.
We had a wonderful experience at the Melrose Grill. It was so nice to have a good old fashioned pleasant eating out experience. The service was incredibly warm and lovely even for a table of 7. We were all shocked by the HUGE portions and every meal ordered was a winner. I could’ve nursed the one cocktail I had for the duration of dinner. Very generous. Plus - $15 corking fee! We will be back.
We ate here for the first time last night. Made reservations for our Valentine's day dinner out. We were seated on time. It was busy but not too loud. May was our waitress and she was wonderful. My husband had the filet and I had the bruchetta and prawns. Our salad and fresh warm rolls arrived quickly. A had the 12th Man Margarita (Seahawks won the Superbowl) and husband had gray goose martini. Both very good. The steak was grilled with a lot of flavor. The veggies were crisp tender. Very nice. Garlic mashed potatoes and the crisp Parmesan potatoes we very good. We enjoyed our first experience to Melrose Grill. There was parking right across the street from the restaurant. We will return.
Our go to place for special occasions, this time for our Son's 21st Birthday. The food is amazing, the special lamb chops were the best I've ever had, believe I was in a food coma after dinner. Our server Mae was outstanding. I've already told my wife we'll be back for my birthday in May, who knows, maybe even her's in April. Can't wait!
Great place! The staff is excellent: from the host to the server, they are professional, warm and hardworking. They made the dining experience memorable- more so than the high end steakhouses in Bellevue or Seattle. The food is also great, the whole experience was a treat!
We made reservations here for our anniversary meal based on the reviews. This place did not disappoint. Everything was cooked perfectly, and the service was great, even though it was a packed house. The booths have higher walls, and feel more private. I had the halibut, my wife had the filet mignon. Both meals came with a salad, tasty vegetables, and choice of potato. Plenty of food. The food is classic American steak house food, but done very well. Thanks for a great meal out!
You can never go wrong with this place! It’s definitely worth making a reservation to ensure your table is secured. I absolutely love the bread, the salad with vinaigrette, and the ribeye cooked medium. The service is always excellent, and the food consistently meets expectations. Consistency is key here — they always make sure you leave satisfied. Highly recommend!
Went to dinner here to catch up with an old friend of mine who's local to the area. The place was his recommendation. The ambiance is fantastic, has that old school small restaurant feel, service is great, Emily did a wonderful job. The food was absolutely phenomenal, I had the Delmonico Steak, something I always enjoy and this one was by far one of the best I've ever had. A good cut, sizeable portion, perfectly cooked and expertly seasoned. I strongly recommend this place and hope to be back myself!
I loved everything I had here. I ordered my ribeye medium rare and it was cooked perfectly. The Bleu cheese and tomato salad was amazing. The quality of food and service was wonderful. I also love that it's not so stuffy and uptight like some steakhouses can be. I will definitely go back.
Excellent service, great steak. May have just been the crowd, but very noisy. Also a little to cool for my comfort preference. Worth a try.
It's your typical upper end steak house with a wide variety of decadent steak and sea options.
Food was good, and they give big portions. We ended up getting the stuffed pork chops and salmon fillet. They have complimentary bread rolls, which were fresh and warm. The atmosphere is laid back and not anything that stuck out to me. There is limited seating - we came as walk-ins, but I would recommend making a reservation ahead of time.
It was my first time. We both ordered filet mignon. I ordered regular cut and he ordered melrose cut = which was additional $. Melrose cut was lot thicker than mine and it was "rough cut" I decided to give 4/5 star due to the veggies not being cooked (carrots) and zucchini were overly cooked. Try their parmeasan potatoes! Super savory and salty at the same time. Gin and tonic was pretty good. Signature cocktail straberry+ cucumber Gimlet was okay* I had to ask the bartender to make it 'sweeter' since it just tasted like cucumber alcohol 🍸
Food was AMAZING, but also quite expensive. Over $300 for two people for two regular steak plates with one glass of cider/ wine each, and one dessert each (274 before tax/ tip)... A bit rich for my budget, but we had a gift card for our anniversary gift. Server was AMAZING, but the hostess canceled our 6pm reservation by the time we walked in at 6:01, so we had to wait in line after setting a reservation for our anniversary dinner... then she blamed US for being late! Would have been early except they have minimal parking so we had to find street parking. Atmosphere was a little dingy looking but not unsanitary- outdated, and the flooring looked like bathroom floor tile. Overall, I would go back again for a VERY special occasion, but it wouldn't be my FIRST choice, though the food was excellent and the server was wonderful. I understand it is a local favorite, but I only recently moved here, so that's not a factor for me.
Food is good but sometimes great. Good is when they over salt the food, I me and the steak and salmon were salty on multiple occasions. It's great when they get it right. In my experiences, when it's salty the steaks seem overcooked. Maybe it's the chef working that night? Ive had great experiences and mediocre. Prices are still reasonable and add ons are a great deal like salmon or stroganoff. Drinks are craft and delicious. I'll always come back just trying to decipher the code.
I've been here several times before, and it's always been great. However, last night (10/04/25) was a different experience. I had a reservation for 8:45 PM for two people and arrived around 8:42 PM. The male hostess told me we’d be seated shortly, but we ended up waiting nearly 25 minutes plus with no seating. My friend had to ask about it before they finally showed us to a table. I'm not sure why we bother making a reservation if we’re going to wait that long. Our waitress, Mae, was fantastic. She told us about the specials and checked on us throughout the evening. The food, however, was a bit too salty—perhaps they were rushing to close, but it was a bit much. Melrose, I’d suggest prioritizing guests who’ve taken the time to make reservations instead of making them wait.
Great atmosphere with knowledgable attentive staff. Steak, potatoes, and vegetables were excessively salty. Lobster was gummy. Our steak cook preference were accidently switched, even though they were different cuts. We made do with our meals, but at the end our bills were accidently charged with each others orders.. Still, the sevice from all staff were phenominal. Dessert was offered to compensate for the trouble, but we declined, as we were finished with the experience. Not mad, just an unfortunate meal. Again, great ambiance, wonderful staff.
Came in today for my mom's birthday dinner. We arrived at 4:00pm per our reservation. This was our first time here. Right off the bat our waitress seemed off not at all friendly, did not smile, seemed cold. Waitress checked on us once while we were there. This place did not make me feel comfortable or inviting. Im glad my mom liked her steak but for myself I won't be back and wont recommend this place as there are better restaurants for this price.
Had dinner here after seeing great reviews online. I ordered the filet mignon and my girlfriend got the prawns. Unfortunately, the steak was overcooked and the prawns were also very overdone. Flavor was lacking on both dishes. The Caesar salad lettuce was browning too, which is such an easy thing to get right. Prices aren’t bad. Our server was friendly and I have no complaints about her service. I’d say if you haven’t had a truly great steak before, you might enjoy it—but if you have, I’d skip it. Overall, it wasn’t worth it and was pretty disappointing. Also, the ambiance isn’t “fancy steakhouse” at all. It feels more like a diner vibe with a steak-focused menu. Good wine list, but the cocktails were just okay.
Tried to go to the Melrose tonight both times I got in there was one spot at the bar, but there was two people waiting for a spot at the bar sitting down in the waiting area. I feel like this establishment shouldn’t cater to waiting for multiple spots to open up at a bar. If you don’t have a reservation and just taking the one person that’s there waiting if there’s an available spot.. The food here is great. The service here is great. The only reason I put it at two stars for this instance is not accommodating a party when they’ve come back two times and Get put back in the same situation and told it’s another 45 minutes when you already waited 45 minutes somewhere else.
Ate here over the weekend, between 3 of us the bill was $240 and part of a party of 9 due to excessive fees and charges. Took 50 minutes from sit down until taking our order and over 2 hours until we received our check to escape this place. Steak - Overcooked, blood drained all over my potatoes and ice cold veg. Waitress debated with me over temp of the meat, paying no mind to what I was saying with the meat being dry and inedible. She had issue with me saying anything, I should have sent back. She offered to put the steak on the grill, never mind the rest of the plate (cold veg and pool of blood). As we were celebrating someone's birthday, I chose to leave it when they should have taken the entire meal back. Jambalaya - Overly fishy, overcooked shrimp and inedible. Stroganoff special was really good. Save your money, I'm ashamed the money we spent here and it was a terrible meal. Zero support from the staff to resolve the situation, would have to serve our table to do so.
We came in for a celebratory dinner on 1/21/26, and initial service was good. My husband and I both ordered steaks and neither were cooked to order (not even close). Gentleman across from us had the same issue. Servers gave no explanation nor apology. The latter we found unacceptable. We don’t expect perfection, but we did expect accountability fora $150+ meal. . Note no compensation was provided nor offered. We won’t return.
