One of the best places to eat. Food and service always outstanding.

I was advised to book in advance as it does get busy. The food didn't disappoint (really tasty) and the service was great.

This is my sisters favourite place to eat, and I have to agree the standard of cookery was really high. My bavette steak and chips was cooked so well and the peppercorn brandy sauce was also perfect. The Picpoul rose is a really lovely wine, I would highly recommend. Dad enjoyed his liver and bacon. My sister had the girls cheese tart which said said was nice, it's not a huge portion so a good choice for a lighter dish. Lovely service and friendly staff.

Fantastic food and excellent staff. The food is of such good quality it would be difficult to class it as pub grub. Everything we ate was fantastic, prawns in garlic, squid, fresh pork chops, leek tart. Wonderful, would highly recommend if you’re looking for a great small restaurant to go to with friends just outside of Horsham.

We had dinner with friends. They said this place one of their favourite as they kept coming back here. We agree with them. The portion of the food are roughly are big especially my pork cutlet is big, kind like double portion for me 😅 I love my apple tart. It was delicious. Generally food was good and the staff are soo friendly and helpfull. We feel warm as they setup few point of heater. We will come back again.

We went to The Chequers with an old school Horsham lunch club, The HOGS! Superb meal! The Liver and bacon is a thing of beauty. Very attentive staff and everything you expect from a very foody pub! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Lovely Sunday lunch after completing the fancyfree.org 6 mile walk of Rudgwick and Rowhook. No reservation and we were lucky to get covers. Ate in the beer garden which was lovely on a nice sunny September afternoon - making the most of them while they're still here!) Garden was empty, which was surprising given what a beautiful afternoon it was. Inside pub was full. Roast beef was delicious as was the calves liver - not something you see on the menu these days so my wife found it a real treat. Worth stopping off for a drink and if you want lunch you definitely need to book. Will definitely be back again soon!

Lovely atmosphere with a traditional pub feel. Great service and flexible with difficult food requests from some of our group. Food was simple but delicious. A real winning combination and amazing value. Thank you, and will be back.

Quintessential English country pub but with five star food. Not the most extensive menu but imaginative, wonderfully presented and cooked to perfection. Good sized portions too Not cheap but excellent value for money.

Went with our son and his fiancée for a celebratory engagement meal. A superb experience from start to finish. Staff courteous and attentive throughout with the food top notch. Cannot recommend highly enough, very lucky to have such a venue so close.

Stopped off for Sunday lunch. Was not disappointed. Perfectly cooked beef, accompanied by a generous assortment of veg. Gravy was a little bit too runny, but overall very enjoyable. Service was friendly and efficient.

Wonderful food. Very filling, hot and reasonably priced. Very attentive servers. I had the wrong impression about Michelin starred restaurant..thought it would be small portions, exquisitely presented. So pleased to be proved wrong on the portion size!

Great Xmas roast in the menu so we all had that. Full of flavour and plenty to eat on the plate. Puddings equally yummy! A wonderful meal from attentive staff.

A really cosy and pleasant country pub with excellent food. My green veg soup was tasty, the bread was delicious. Ham, egg and chips was nicely cooked, and my panacotta pudding was delicious, served with rhubarb. A place to return to

We had dinner for two last night, the locally sourced pheasant was exceptional and my wife's starter and mains were delicious. The young waitress couldn't have been more charming. A fine establishment by any measure and would thoroughly recommend.

A pretty historic pub serving very good food and beer (Harveys on tap). They kindly accommodated out large family group in the garden on short notice for Sunday lunch. We were really impressed by the variety of menu options and the brilliant home cooked food. The staff were friendly and helpful. The garden was great for the kids to run around in. No separate kids menu, instead they adapted the menu as we asked with kids sized portions.

Delighted to return to the Chequers for a evening celebration dinner. From the kind and efficient service, to the delicious meals, everything was perfect. We are so pleased that the restaurant continues to win food awards and that it is obviously popular. Recommend advance booking. Well done and thank you.

Lovely pub with well maintained garden. No play equipment. Nice hidden outdoor courtyard with cover. The pub itself is nice and quaint and cosy.

Popped in on spec in the week before Christmas, so pretty busy on the but we were found a table ( just the two of us) and told we might have to wait a while as they were so busy, but drinks came quickly, food order taken quickly too and with hardly enough time to quaff the first pint, there was the food order! Beautifully presented and just the right amount too. Hence we were able to accommodate a pudding (&, for me, a second pint) We were made to feel really welcome. We will return!

Had seen good reviews so booked for our anniversary and it did not disappoint! Great value for money. 4 of us had 3 courses plus drinks and we enjoyed every dish. Looking forward to returning soon.

One of the best pub Sunday roasts I've ever had - everything was perfectly cooked, and the selection of vegetables was outstanding, beautifully seasoned. Our whole table was very happy and we are looking forward to returning soon.

We had a wonderful dining experience at The Chequers Inn. From start to finish, everything was exceptional. The food was simply delicious, with each dish beautifully prepared and full of flavour. Everyone in our group loved their meal, and it was clear that the chefs put great care into every plate – hats off to them! The service was outstanding, with staff who were friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. They made sure we had everything we needed without ever feeling rushed, which really added to our enjoyment of the evening. The atmosphere was another highlight. The Chequers Inn has managed to create a space that feels both cosy and elegant. With its warm lighting, tasteful decor, and charming character, it’s truly a delight to spend time here. It’s the kind of pub that feels like a real treat, perfect for a relaxed meal or a special occasion. We’ll definitely be returning and can’t recommend it highly enough!

We recently had the most incredible meal and experience at The Chequers Inn. It's cosy, comfortable with a very pleasant atmosphere. Our server, Greta was exceptional being very friendly & welcoming and offering very attentive service and the Pimms we had, with fruit personally picked & made by Jane and was by far the best Pimms we've ever had. FIVE STAR service & experience. We'll be back as often as we can! Thank you.

The Chequers Rowhook is our beloved local pub, a place we return to time and again. We're consistently impressed by the high standard of food, always guaranteeing a lovely meal. Beyond the delicious British and French-inspired cuisine, the pub also boasts a lovely vine-clad terrace, perfect for enjoying a relaxed meal outdoors.

I had the calves liver followed by a tart and both were excellent. The waitress was helpful and we enjoyed our meal. Unfortunately, another guest was behaving rather rudely but this was dealt with when the staff were made aware. Ive been here several times now and its a great spot for a lovely lunch.

We had lunch today, the fish and chips plus burger were best we'd had for ages! King prawn starter was super and chocolate mousse was massive - we were pleased we shared! Highly recommend this pub, we will be back!

A massive thank you to the Chequers Inn - a beautiful little pub in the country side with lovely grounds. We came to the Chequers to celebrate my hen do and it was perfect from start to finish. The table set up was perfect and the staff were so friendly, helpful and accommodating - I couldn't fault them in any way. The food was simply delicious - compliments to the chefs! The steak was the best I've had in a long time. They were very accommodating with food intolerance and dietary requirements. We'll definitely be visiting again soon.

Visited today as a party of 12 for the first time, rarely leave reviews but everyone on the table was blown away by the quality of the food and the service from our waitress and the team. Everything tasted so fresh and extremely high quality with local produce. I had the fish and chips and it was incredible. Soft, light crunchy and delicious. There were many compliments on the roasts being delicious too. The service was a level above what you usually expect, our waitress was warm, friendly and was great at her job, explaining the dishes and the produce. We're local and are so pleased to have found this gem. 100% recommend.

Excellent Sunday roast. We both had the pork. Perfectly cooked as were the vegetables and potatoes. Warm, friendly, prompt service. We will returning to try other dishes. Great atmosphere as traditional pub. Beer garden looks great too!

Stopped off after a business meeting, asked if we had a booking, no but no problem sit anywhere we like. Got dogs too, no prob, git a cosy table in front of the fire. Brought drinks over, two friends had the liver dish, I had fish and chips. Friends scoffed theirs, I couldn't eat all mine so offered it up to help. All agreed never had such a nice piece of fish, it was lovely. Beer battered, lovely and fresh, lovely batter, loads of chips and mushy peas, salad and slice of lemon. Absolutely lovely and very large portion. Brought over other drinks and brought a bowl of water for the dogs snd some dog biscuits. Very warm ,inviting and friendly. Will go again.

Good food, friendly and efficient service, lovely old pub, dog friendly, local craft ale, vegan food option. We went to The Chequers for a family meal with 16 of us and were looked after really well by the attentive staff. All the food was excellent and a shout out for the vegan burgers which went down very well! 🍔😋 Thanks so much. We also went on a lovely circular walk from here along the local footpaths which took us through beautiful scenary - fields, woodlands and around lakes . A top day.

Lovely place with friendly staff. We ordered king prawns and soup of the day for the starter. The king prawns were brilliant but the soup of the day was just ok. For the main course, the Sirloin steak was a bit salty but the calf liver was really good. We ordered ice cream for Dessert. Highly recommended. We were very satisfied with the a mount of food we were given.

An excellent country pub serving fantastic British food. Perfect after a walk in the Surrey Hills.

Amazing food, delicious flavours, well cooked full plate of food complemented by the red wine. Fun relaxed atmosphere with our friends. After our meal, we sat out the back of the restaurant on the picnic table, finishing our wine in the sunshine, very nice.

R
Richard Blackman

Three stars for the food may seem a little harsh, but this place used to be amazing. There was nothing wrong with any of the courses, but many pubs local to Horsham are as good at two-thirds of the price. Having said that, the calves' liver was perfect. Cannot fault the staff or the atmosphere.

Generally good food with helpful and friendly service. A little slow in getting the bill and had to ask for sauces and but food was ordered quickly and arrived quickly. Didn’t take off the deposit I had paid so had to get that changed which was a little annoying but generally had a very nice lunch.

Absolutely charming pub. Great food; pub classics done really well. Friendly and welcoming staff. All wrapped up in a truly gorgeous old building. Perfect for a pint, an evening meal or Sunday roast. They even do interesting cocktails, like a Hugo. Never heard of it before, but the Wife gave it two thumbs up!

I picked this place based on a good eating guide and was generally very pleased with my experience. Easy to find in a small out of the way village, very peaceful and quite setting to enjoy lunch. The restaurant had a lovely feel to it and wasn't too busy, but still busting. Was greeted warmly and taken to our table straight away. We were seated outside in the courtyard which was spacious and relaxing and the waitress was attentive and the service for food and drinks was quick. Started with the olives and bread, which were in a delicious sauce and went with the burger main. Perhaps not the most adventurous option but it was good quality and well cooked. All in all a lovely lunch experience and very reasonably priced for a shared starter and two mains plus drinks at £60. Definitely aim to come back again and try some more of the menu options.

We enjoyed the food and it was served properly hot (so many places fail on this simple point). However the dining room was cold and so the fairly long waits for service seemed even longer.

H
Harriet Greener

Lovely village pub. The food was delicious and they managed to seat us without a reservation. The staff were very friendly and polite. The only reason I have given a low score for service is because we had to wait a long time for our drinks order to be taken and then another long wait for the food order to be taken and the place wasn't too busy to justify the wait.

J
Jeremy Sargent

The staff are nice, friendly and helpful. The burger I had was really good and portions were good. However, for the price of the ham eggs and chips I would have expected better quality ham rather than cheap and easy cold cuts. It was rather over priced for the effort that was put in the meal for the ham & eggs.
