Got a dozen donut holes, and the guy shown in red was very nice. Will come back and definitely recommend.
Fresh, they are better than Krispy creme. Very fluffy. It reinflate after every bite. It melt in mouth.
Best place for donuts hands down. Selection is always fresh. No old stale donuts here. Try their crumb raised or glazed raised donuts, they are a pillowing sweet delight. They even have a few specialty donuts that they make every morning that are very tasty. These specialty donuts are more expensive than their basic donuts. Be prepared to fork out $4-$5 for each of these tasty specialty donuts. My favorite is their crem brulee specialty donut.
Bob’s Donuts is leaving 1621 Polk St. after almost 70 years! 😩😩😩 I have been going for more than 2 decades at this Bob’s location and the consistency is always at an all time high! My favorites are their original glazed and the best Crumb donut you can ever have! I miss it when you were able to sit at the counter or one of the tables but after pandemic it’s to-go only and I’m happy to say there is almost always a line outside which means I’m right…Bob’s is really good! On another positive note Bob’s I believe will keep their newer location just a block and a half away also on Polk St. See you there then! 🍩👍🏼😋
I visited San Francisco for my birthday trip from Chicago, and one stop stood out above the rest—Bob’s Donuts on Polk Street. This legendary 24-hour shop has been serving fresh, handmade donuts since the 1960s, and it’s a true gem. As a Chicagoan, I’ve had my fair share of great donuts (think Stan’s, Do-Rite, and Firecakes), but Bob’s has a nostalgic, no-frills vibe that makes it special. It’s the kind of place that works for both late-night cravings and early-morning sugar fixes. The donuts are big, fresh, and packed with flavor. The classic glazed raised donut is perfect, but two of my personal favorites were the apple fritter and maple bar. And if you’re up for it, they even have the famous Texas Donut Challenge—a giant donut you try to finish in under three minutes for bragging rights. My absolute favorite, though, was the Mango Malasada. Malasadas are Portuguese-style pastries popular in Hawaii, filled with tropical fruit flavors. I chose mango, and it was heaven—soft, fluffy, and bursting with sweetness. I honestly wish we had malasadas this good back in Chicago!
Bob’s is a neighborhood 24-hour gem that just can’t be beat. They have all the best types - glazed, chocolate, maple, old fashioned, filled, donut holes, you name it. They’re fast, and you can watch them regularly put in fresh batches of donuts. Highly recommend for breakfast or that mid-afternoon sweet snack craving. Easy for grab and go or they have a few tables and chairs to sit at.
Nice to see such a large location for a Bob’s donuts, and it’s very helpful to have a spot open 24hrs. They offer unique donut flavors such as the fruity pebbles and froot loops topped donuts alongside standard classic donuts, and even at 2am they still had substantial variety. Service staff were very friendly, could definitely decorate the huge space a little bit more.
When you think of Nob Hill businesses, Bob’s Donuts immediately comes to mind. Freshly made in their original store one block over since the 1970s! Now there’s an additional new Bob’s Donuts location at 1720 Polk (the next block North)! The Grand Opening was SO Fun! People lined up before the doors opened at 10 am on 2/21/25. As we patrons got to the doorway, we were treated to a Freshly fried Glazed Donut. The inside was completely new. The counter had the variety of donuts all laid out. It was a rainbow of colored frosting. Donuts of all sizes. I bought a strawberry malasada, which was like a strawberry compote sugar donut. Delicious! So light & airy inside! Past the cashier, Bob’s Donuts family members handed out complimentary tote bags and a long-stem rose! 🌹 There’s nothing better than nostalgia, neighborhood bakeries, supporting a local Nob Hill family business & fresh donuts!
I love this place! I’m not usually a big fan of donuts but wow, Bob’s Donut is really good! I love the Creme Brulee donut. I will definitely be getting that again next time I’m here. My friend also recommends the Apple Fritter donut. The shop itself is a small, humble shop but they have so many donut options and they all look so good! Service is fast. Even though there was a line when I went (Friday night) the line moved steadily so I didn’t feel like I was waiting for too long. When you order your donut they just fetch it from the front display case so you don’t have to wait at all once you order.

No frills donut place that has some seating and quick service. staff is friendly and you can see them constantly making donuts.
Those Donuts are phenomenal. And that price is too.\nBest Donuts I've had so far.\nThe glass between server and customer makes communication harder sometimes but it works out.
This place is so delicious !! We got donuts maple and crumble cake !! My sister recommended this place saying it's a must try in SF!

Best doughnuts i have ever tasted. Amazingly sweet and fluffy, with a big portion. The staff is very friendly and portions are huge
We tried several donuts and every one was delicious!! There was a line but it was worth the wait! The filled strawberry, crumb donuts and chocolate all recommended!

Great SF institution with excellent donuts this place is well worth a visit if you’re in the area. The prices for the donuts are very fair and you will like this place.
What real, bakery fresh donuts taste like, come here for a reminder of what they are supposed to taste like. Worth the walk and the wait.
This place was quick, tasty and was a warm spot to sit. I got the maple donut ring and I rate it a 8.4/10. It was super fluffy, moist, and there wasn’t too much maple frosting. This donut was a good balance of all the flavors and it was very thick. It was different than other maple donuts I’ve had, less traditional maple flavor. There was a line out of the door when we got there but it moved very fast and we got our food within 10 minutes of waiting. Workers were efficient and got everyone’s order right. There was a good amount of seating and it was warm which made it a great spot for a cold night in the city. Would definitely go back and want to try the apple fritter. Fire🔥🔥
These donuts are not as spectacular as the reviews claim. But everyone likes a different donut. For me, a simple glazed krispy kreme has the perfect texture. I tried the apple fritter and cream filled chocolate bar. The dough for these donuts is quite cakey, not light enough. The apple fritter tasted good but was a bit undercooked in the middle. And these donuts are not served warm sadly. For the price, it is good, especially considering the size. I don't understand why they don't put up clear pricing. We paid $3.95 for the apple fritter and $3.75 for the chocolate bar.
Over a year after my first visit to Bob’s Donuts & Pastry Shop on Polk Street, I found myself back in the neighborhood for an early car tune-up appointment. As I often do, I decided to take a stroll, grab a cup of coffee, and pass some time while waiting for my car. It wasn’t yet 8:00 a.m., and many of the shops were still closed, so I started heading back to the service center. As I was walking back, I looked up and saw the sign for Bob’s Donuts, but I realized it was on the wrong side of the street. I stopped to take a closer look, and sure enough, it was Bob’s Donuts! I later learned that Bob’s now has two locations on Polk Street in San Francisco. The original shop at 1621 Polk has been around since the 1960s and is famous for being open 24 hours a day, making it a popular spot for late-night cravings. The shop I encountered at 1720 Polk opened in early 2025. This newer location is larger and more modern, with extra seating, wood-lined ceilings, and a nicer design. The reason for the second location was that the landlord of the original shop raised the rent by 150%, prompting the owners to find a backup spot to stay in the neighborhood. Anyway, I walked inside, got a ham and cheese croissant, and a cup of coffee. Sat inside, looked around, and enjoyed the croissant while sipping my coffee. On the way out, I took a few photos of their goodies for the record and said goodbye to the friendly staff. Both donut shops are currently open. The new location has shorter hours, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., as they are considering moving to a 24-hour schedule in the future. In summary, the original shop offers a classic experience and is always open, while the new one provides a modern, spacious setting, giving fans two different ways to enjoy Bob’s Donuts. The old shop may close by the end of 2025, so if you want to visit the historic location, hurry up! Otherwise, the new spot serves the same delicious treats and offers a more welcoming space.
I made a quick stop in and out to order donuts to go. They displayed a lot of their donuts at the window. But probably had some usual ones in the back. I got some the old fashioned blueberry filled. The old fashioned was quite soaked in oil so that was not pleasurable. The glazed was decent. Maybe I should’ve gotten a more basic donuts to measure on. Overall I thought it was just average and had higher expectations It’s very pricey for 1 dozen. I paid $34.

I came here because I wanted something special and it just was good but not that special. The donut I got was a strawberry filled donut. It was good but not warm. I wanted hot chocolate but they didn't have it. I wanted a maple bar but they didnt have it. Selection was unique but limited. The donuts didnt look fresh. I went at night after work and they looked like they had been sitting there maybe since the day before. The shop didnt have a microwave which I thought was strange. Why wouldnt they have a microwave? It costs like $150 on fb marketplace to get a microwave so people can have hot chocolate and warm donuts. Anyway it was good, it just wasn't special.
The new 24 hours Bob's Donuts location on Polk in the city! Was looking for dessert and everyone knows about this place. Their original location is 2 min walk away but I believe they will close that soon. This is their new location and much bigger with tables to sit at. Lots of donut varieties made fresh. I like the s'mores, malasadas with cream and creme brûlée donuts but better to get them early morning but gets dense after awhile. Prices are decent. Street parking is difficult in the day but at midnight, lots of parking available. Friendly service but they are busy. I would recommend for a late night snack. ;)

I love Bobs Donuts I’ve been coming ever since I was young and this new location dropped off in quality I’m so sad. They make the donuts exactly the same which is amazing but they don’t have a microwave or heated oven so you can expect cold donuts if they weren’t freshly made. Because the space is bigger the donuts get colder quickly bc of the air flow being constantly on the donuts. I would either take it to go and heat at home or ask which is the most fresh.
Now granted I got there in the afternoon, but every single donut I had tasted like it was a couple days old. I even got a few that were cream-filled and usually those ones stay nice and fresh and they felt stale. I appreciate a donut shop that stays open in the afternoon. I don't know why donuts are only a morning thing. But these were to the point that we threw them away. And usually I can take a slightly stale donut or one that is is at the end of the day but this felt like it was. Maybe there a couple days. Service wasn't that great either. I kind of almost felt apologetic that I wanted to order donuts like I was kind of bugging the girl.
Got a few doughnuts from the new location to bring home. I just about gagged when I took a bite from the apple fritter. It was totally burnt. The whole bottom was black. The apple was now charcoal. It tasted like burnt toast with burnt sugar. I can’t believe they put this out for sale. Also when I was in. The lady working the counter asked if I wanted the vegan or regular doughnut. I asked her what makes them vegan or non-vegan. Milk? She said I don’t make them I’m not the cook or have any idea what they are made of. Seriously. Come on Bob! Train your employees on some basics. Way to take people’s money with the minimum amount of effort! If you eat here check all your Doughnuts on the bottom to see if they are selling you burnt ones.

Today I forgot I had to bring some to work and even my coworkers wondered what has happened to bobs. I actually threw out two half ate ones(chocolate and glazed). The flavor, texture everything is just off

What people say about Bob's Donuts
Bob's Donuts: A San Francisco Sweet Spot on Baker Street
There are donut shops, and then there’s Bob’s Donuts. A true San Francisco institution, Bob's has long been a go-to for those with a serious sweet tooth, offering what many consider some of the tastiest and most varied selections in the entire Bay Area. While some long-time patrons recall a slightly fluffier texture from years past, noting a shift to a chewier dough, the core appeal remains: these aren't your average overly sugary confections, striking a more balanced sweetness that lets the...
