Relaxing atmosphere with lovely baristas. The sitting area is usually packed, but most people don’t stay long so it’s not bard finding a spot. It’s mostly students during the weekdays. Seating is very limited. I usually bring my coffee back to school or MLK library to work. Would recommend the Mint mojito iced coffee.
Absolutely worth the wait - currently not served inside due to covid. I had my doubts, but alas, it only took one sip to realize this is some of best coffee I have ever tasted in the US - my cup had a combination of deliciously lingering European taste with a gentle, but very forward notes of west coast warmth. You want to kick back and get inspired!
Seriously amazing coffee. The hot cocoa and Ecstatic iced coffee sweet and creamy are absolutely out of this world. I was genuinely shocked at how much I loved the blend and I can't recommend it enough. Each barista makes it a bit different and it does take a while to make but it is worth the wait.
Visited here during LG meetup event at 6.30AM in the morning. First time here, so I did not know how to order. You need to stand in line go to barista when your turn comes, order your drink then go to cashier and pay for your drink! Any way I am a starbucks guy, I paid first then was trying to figure out where my order was. One of the Baristas understood what I did, she prepared my drink Aromatic Arabic. Coffee was pretty good. Place does get busy with long lines to order, since it is located in prime location in downtown San Jose.
Philz is always great (especially on a rainy morning)! They make your coffee to order and you can choose the sweetness as well as creaminess so it's suited to your taste. There's light, medium, and dark roast options as well as some specialties (mocha and the iced mint mojito!) So you have plenty of options. They also have baked goods which taste so fresh and yummy (much better quality than Starbucks food).
Buenos días, Cinco Estrellas for Philz @ SJSU Downtown 118 Paseo De San Antonio San Jose, CA 95112 7 visits, all 5 -Star experience! Today's visit, Reyes and Brandon provided excellent Beverage Customer service "Skillz" Tip: Get here when they first open and be surrounded by the vibrant atmoshpere with speakers belting out "Old School plus new trending" music My order: * Large, Hot, Jacob's * The Philz way (Med. Creamy & Med. Azucar) Called to the bar for pick-up: Sipped the beverage and perfecto! One, two, three, four, FIVE Stars I approve this rating, Jay M.
Love this Philz, it is the OG after all. The baristas are friendly and fast! The coffee is hot and full of love!! I tried out the new plant-based breakfast Sammy, and it is awesome! The ingredients all make this sandwich taste like the not-so-good-for-you versions of a sausage egg and cheese sando. And that is the best part :D
Came out of curiosity and because I happen to be visiting nearby, and I'm glad I did. Had a pleasant experience and satisfied my craving for awesome coffee. An active and bustling place with a cozy and relaxed vibe and decor. There is even a vibrant mural art on their wall which stands out. Lots of customers but service is organized and quick. Very impressive since all the coffee made is a pour over. Coffee selection is diverse with lots of interesting flavours. Ordered a Tesora and Canopy of Heaven coffee with medium level of sweetness. Coffee was very smooth, strong, but not too acidic, and no nasty sour or bitter aftertaste. Also got a couple of whole coffee bean bags (Tesora and Silken Splendour). $18 per pound. Shop can grind the beans for you. A great deal if you want to enjoy it at back at home. Keep in mind that there is no restroom in this place. It is also a chill place to sit down, relax, and people-watch. Easily accessible via walking or by car. It is close to nearby public parking. Also wheelchair accessible. Would come back again, and try out their mocha and mint mojito iced coffee.
In town and had to try the spot that I order beans from and get shipped to home State of Idaho. Excellent brew as always and very relaxed and chill atmosphere to get some with done on the computer using their excellent wifi.
Such an awesome place to enjoy a cup of great coffee! This location is full of friendly coffee-lovers. The team effortlessly orchestrates a welcoming, safe place.
Best location in the Bay Area hands down. The drinks are always good and very consistent.
Great coffee and amazing service. Love the seasonal tiramisu drink.
Kalista is one of the best Philz baristas! She was super friendly with me and my family and even made adjustments to our drinks! 10/10
The service was friendly and attentive, making my coffee experience very pleasant.
The coffee we ordered was sensational and very strong , will definitely go back. The only draw back were some homeless hanging around which made us uncomfortable.
One of the best, if not THE BEST Philz coffee spot in California. I feel the way they make the coffee is always consistent. Some other Philz coffee has it different and inconsistent. I appreciate when I know my usual order will taste the way I like it.
I’ve visited this coffee shop 10 to 15 times, and it’s always a great experience. The rose iced coffee is my absolute favorite — it’s unique, refreshing, and beautifully made. Everyone should give it a try! At times, there’s a short wait of 5 to 10 minutes, but it’s always worth it.
Great coffee and food and tea. Everyone is so nice 🙂 not the best location due to parking but very walkable. Highly recommend.
Great coffee. They have many unique drinks. The rose latte was refreshing. I'm not a black coffee drinker, I hadn't gotten any cream or sugar mixins and the coffee was smooth enough that it wasn't bitter. Highly recommend. I messed up by not ordering at the right place but the barista was kind enough to upgrade my drink.
I’ve been here many times for breakfast. Their coffee must be the most unique one in the west coast. It tastes really special and creative. I would like to say that Philz has novelty and passion in making coffee. I also love their hot croissants, which has been the best coffee mate.
One of my favorite coffee spots in San Jose. This location is one of the oldest in the Bay Area, and I’ve been coming for over a decade. The coffee here is amazing. The house blend Tesora mixed with cream is a treat, and the ice mint mojito is the perfect drink on a warm day. Seating indoors and out. If you’re a coffee lover, you will love Philz.
Wow! I walked a ways to get here because they had such high reviews. Worth it. I was early and no one was waiting but as soon as they opened the door. People came out of the woodwork. It was awesome. I had the silken splendor. So interesting and delicious. I also tried the vegan donut warmed. Holy cow it was good! All coffees are pour overs and they have all sorts of interesting flavors. The staff is fast and as friendly as coffee shop people can be.
Right across street from the SJSU campus. Opens early 7 days a week to caffeinated the area. This location is definitely a SJSU student hangout / study hall no matter what time of day with the university is in session. Like all Philz, location is always busy. There will be a wait, but the line does move quickly. And with all Bay Area Philz locations I have been to, the friendly baristas know their stuff and are very familiar with both Philz’s coffee and food menus. They can quickly figure out what your like to drink if you need drink recommendations while quickly getting down to business and making your customized coffee drink while you wait. I always do like their prompt, reassuring Philz statement as the Barista hands you the cup - “taste it before you leave to be sure your happy” — so you are never disappointed with what you ordered. I have never asked to make me another coffee. There is seating both indoors and outdoors. Front doors are wide open so very easy for a disabled person to get in and out without any assistance. To reduce your wait time, it is faster to order ahead using the Philz app. As for parking, this location is more of a neighborhood drop in, walk-by kind of place than to find parking and then walk in and get coffee.
The best drip coffee! Rich, robust, and hot!
Loved this place. Great vibes, the staff was wonderful, and seems like a nice local spot for students/writers etc. Mint Mojito was banger, as advertised.
They're almost blend. Cream and sugar added by them to your taste. Good for coffee lovers. It takes about 15min to wait, but it's really worth.
This location is my favorite location. No question about it! All of the favorite Philz coffee drinks, a kitchy/chill atmosphere to hang out in while you sip your coffee. Most of all, excellent service from the baristas! The young gentleman who works the back station making drinks for mobile pickup and DoorDash orders is especially competent. Always courteous!

The coffee is very good, I got the mocha tesoro and requested it not to be too sweet, they made it perfect! Chocolatey, delicious coffee and not too sweet! Well balanced and very enjoyable! Cozy ambiance, went in the morning.

First time experiencing Philz. The coffee, staff and overall vibe was fantastic. Honestly kind of reminded me of Central Perk from the show friends. I’m not a fancy coffee drinker. I simply like black coffee. Most places I go to will offer a free refill on black coffee if you stay, but this place doesn’t. The coffee and energy of the atmosphere will have me come back whenever i’m in town
Apparently very popular as the run out of expressos before 10 am! I tried the Turkish delight with a hint of cardamom and it was delicious! Would definitely love more clarity in the menu and more information about pastries and other product, there was a long but fast line outside to get coffee but no menu available for people to see until they get to the cashier making the decision there. The place is nice and simple but the coffee is so good that I wish it could be enjoyed in a better way.
Very nice coffee place. The best in Jose for flavored coffees. It has a very wide selection of coffees. The staff are very friendly and professional. They have also mediterranean food! They have baklava and labneh bagels and toast with zaatar.
Drink ☕️ I ordered a mocha tesora and it was strong and sweet with adjustable milk and sugar levels. Service🕴🏻 Being a first time customer I wasn’t sure where exactly to order and eventually the barista informed me albeit in a slightly dubious way. So it seems one should wait at the start of a line until a barista calls out to you and you can then go to the spot at the counter. After you order, then you head to the cashier to pay and wait for your order to be called. Ambience 🕯 With walls decked in posters of past concerts, events etc, it’s evident this is a students hangout with some rough edges. There’s not much spaces to sit around thus mostly are takeaways.

This was my first experience at a Philz. To be honest, it was really confusing. There was only 3 people in line, but it took about 5 minutes before someone acknowledged me. Then, when I ordered a Chai the options were completely confusing. Then, I had no idea where to pick it up. (Found out later that you pick it up from the person whom you ordered it from.) The store itself was very nice. The drink...well, to be real, I had no idea what I actually ended up drinking!
Employees were kind. But the way they’ve set up their line and coffee stations is absolutely deranged. Coffee is what it’s always been at Philz, pretty good.

I love the coffee here. It’s one of the best. But the line was way too long. Not gonna stand 20 minutes in line for a cup of coffee no matter how good it is
Tell me why this is still the only Philz that still makes you order with the Barista, and they work super slow. Baristas just chat with friends and waste time in the back while there is a line all the way out the door. Unbelievable!

I’m only leaving the one star because ordering is backwards and they don’t tell you until after you’ve waited in line…twice. Asinine.
Rude server trying to make me feel dumb with the order callouts. “Hot coffee” isn’t specific enough when hella people are ordering “coffees” of varying kinds. My confusion was met with passive aggression which never feels good :/
