You must try their smoked Brisket sandwich. A little expensive at $18 but it's the best Brisket sandwich I have ever had. I can't wait to try it again. 12 hours to smoke it they said, using their own red oak wood supply. Noice!
If you're ever in the Sonoma Square, you must come here, chat with Isaac, grab some cheese and charcuterie and get some delicious sandwiches and salads. My husband and I came here earlier this week and Isaac was amazing. He let us try numerous cheeses and gave some charcuterie samples to my husband, recommended some yummy veg and non veg items from their restaurant next door and was just a wonderful human being. We dined at their connected restaurant and wow! My husband LOVED Isaac's recommendation of the tri tip sandwich, I really loved my customized veg sandwich with pesto spread and the amazing arugula sandwich with the AMAZING apricot dressing...wowza!!! Today, we used the cheese and charcuterie from the Cheese Factory for our Fourth of July spread. Will definitely return for some amazing lunch and to see Isaac again. Don't forget to visit this spot when you're in Sonoma! It's a gem! Best meal was here!
A great find. People with passion and pride in their work! Great brisket, pulled pork and the service was superb! If you’re i. The area, do yourself a favor and stop in for a great meal!
We went to the Sonoma Cheese Factory for wine and cheese pairing tasting. It was both fun and educational. Our server (sorry but I forget his name) was knowledgeable about both the wines and cheeses. And more than what he was serving us. He answered all our questions and what cheese goes with different wines that we like. The store itself has a wide selection of local wines and cheeses and lots of accessories we bought for gifts. It was well worth our time and great value for the price.
Also a nice place to come for wine tasting on occasion. Community feel
Amazing cheese selection, both local and imported specialty cheese you won't find anywhere else. I didn't eat here not the menu and meat selection looked amazing.
The staff is really great shout out to the chef 👨🍳 juan great attitude really attentive will be back very soon and the cole slaw is delicious 😋 😀 👌 👍 😉
We stopped here for lunch in October of 2017. The food, wine and gift selections are extensive. They also do cheese and wine tasting. We enjoyed our sandwich at an outdoor table next to the Sonoma Museum building. There were inside tables as well. If traveling in the area I would stop there again.
Soo many delights to choose from. Love this place!! 5 stars. Kassi was so helpful in food and cheese selection. Great place to eat, shop. Thank you
The Sonoma Cheese Factory was one of the stops on a tour we took while visiting San Francisco. It was a large establishment with indoor and outdoor seating, wine tasting, restaurant for sandwiches, outside barbeque area to order food and a cheese display case that seemed like a mile long. Best if all, free samples of the cheese. And even better, all the free samples you could eat. I believe we tried around 30 to 35 different flavors of Cheese. pricing was par for course on cheeses and they had some great bundles as well. We only left with two cheese but are looking forward to ordering more online. We also tried ordering lunch from their sandwich shop and found it to be a tedious job. Confussion on where to order, where the line to order was at and where to pick your food up at . The food was decent enough, a bit pricey and took a long time to get after you ordered.
Had free samples of a few cheeses in the back. I did the wine & cheese tasting and the employee there (I forget his name) told me they had a groupon for it, so I bought that first and saved some money. They even offered us some amazing desert wines that ended up being our favorites!
Great coffees and best brisket sandwhich ive ever had! Highly recommend
One word, FANTASTIC! I highly recommend the wine and cheese pairing. Carlos is a great young man who is a pleasure to chat with and very knowledgeable. Everyone was polite and helpful. Too bad there are only 5 stare to rate them
So I'm going to recommend any of the homemade barbecue served at lunch. I personally like the brisket but the chorizo sausage like is spicy delicious.
Just left a voicemail, which I normally try to avoid doing, but in this case, a must! Have never been to the cheese shop, but if this is the place that makes and exports the cheese I had an hour ago.... then you cannot find higher quality (taste is after all subjective) anywhere that I have visited. North Americans in general would be shocked and appalled if I were to explain why, so just be aware that my first flight to Europe was taken in 1963 and the second, in 1967 - had a great time as the "special stewardess let me hand out sodas and who can resist a 7 year old. Long before we landed, club soda was the only drink left.
Mom and I stopped in while walking around Sonoma Plaza, and we were blown away by the selection of cheese! Jesse was working that day, and he was able to explain the various cheeses and help us put together a small charcuterie selection. Highly recommend!
Their tasting with charcuterie is the BEST deal in town! We loved Peter, he did an amazing job!
Picked up cheese and crackers for picnic. Great selection and friendly helpful staff.
Delicious sandwiches. Nice staff
Had a wonderful wine tasting and assisted with choosing 2 wines. Chesses were to die for!
I’ve had many many briskets in my life- this was the absolute best one yet. Excellent service and you can smell the smokers working in the background. 10/10- 5 stars!!
Come early to get the best sandwiches west of St. Louis!!!!! Wow! The brisket is so delicious that you want to gorge yourself and live with the pickle relish!!! Seriously, awesome! We also had the turkey sandwich that was sliced like a good deli/ butcher. The staff were so helpful and kind! Totally the best!
Not a fancy place, but nice little store with good food and some wine and cheese sampling.
The sandwiches are amazing. We had the Tri-Tip and the brisket and both were so fresh and had rich smoked flavours. We bought cheese and wine as well
Walked in here to buy some cheese, ended up with an amazing lunch based on brisket sandwiches, and pulled pork nachos. The chorizo dish was to die for as well. Super friendly service and excellent value for money. We will definitely be back.

I have had the best brisket sandwich here, seriously amazing! Also the staff was super friendly, this south american guy was really nice and helpful.
This place was great! Good wine selection and lots of different beers. Had a deli with made to order sandwiches that were delicious. The cheese selection was excellent and they also had chocolate and gelato. After wine tasting elsewhere we stopped by and got ourselves a picnic of sandwiches cheese and wine!
great sandwiches! the bread is so fresh! great spot to grab lunch while shopping!
My husband and I enjoyed one of the BEST brisket sandwiches ever!! The meat so tender and piled up perfectly. Our son enjoyed the turkey sandwich and said it was amazing. We also had the potato salad and the older gentleman recommended the mac and cheese, I was not disappointed.
We just wanted to get a cheese plate, and at the sonoma cheese factory, we found so much more. From their wine, water, and beer selection to the vast cheese options, it was nearly overwhelming. Luckily, the gents at the front directed me to a curated collection of fine cheeses, olives and cured meats. We then discovered a smoky bevvy of tritip, nachos and brisket. A deli seating experience and smokehouse flavor. Overall 10/10, a spot to visit while you experience Sonoma. #hiddengem
Great place for wine and cheese tasting/shopping. Low-key and friendly atmosphere.
My husband and I ate lunch here during our wine country tour in October. We had a nice chat with the owner's dad who was taking orders. I got the Cuban sandwich and my husband got the Mediterranean. Both were delicious! We sat on the side patio and enjoyed our wonderful lunch. The same fellow came out to see how we liked our sandwiches and he was so friendly! It was an absolute pleasure having lunch here. I highly recommend it!
Is it an Enoteca? An specialty food boutique? A Cheese Shop? A Cafe? Or just a great BBQ place...well it is ALL of these things. You can eat in or get your food/wine packed for picnic..BTW, you can have them open the wine and you are allowed to drink/eat in the park across the street. How great is that. Dont want to cook tonight? Order Brisket by the pound to go.
The ham and cheese croissant was exceptional. It was the best ham and cheese type croissant in my life and great value for money. There was a lot of meat inside and it had a very rich and smoky flavour. The cheese was melting and balanced the meat flavour well. The croissant itself was also made really well. It was a warm delight and I wish I had a chance to try it again. Definitely recommend! Overall the place is more like a deli store with some pastries, wine as well as cheese and other products
Nice place for breakfast - we had the avocado toast and the brisket, it was super delicious. Its a good place to start before going on the winetastings!
I haven’t been here since 2014, and I’m so glad I returned! I absolutely love their cheese selection and enjoying a few glasses of wine while I nibble on the goodies I purchased. Such a fun place with knowledgeable staff and nice outdoor seating to enjoy wine and snacks.
The Cranberry Cheese had both sweet and savory and soooo good! But the Paire Breeze was just the right amount of cheeder and chives - a perfect blend
cute cheese shop with great selection to choose from! staff was super friendly :) had a famous brisket sandwich to go and they packed it well! so we could eat it in the park nearby. defenitely recomend :)
We walked in expecting a quick "on the go" breakfast. Wow! We were blown away with the breakfast sandwich. My husband had the ham & cheese croissant (added bacon) and I had the ham, egg & cheese croissant. They were both delicious! And, the coffee was very good, as well. Will be back.
Cutie little spot with tons of cheeses, a cafe, and food/gift items. We were walking around Sonoma and saw this store so we peeked in. Ended up getting coffee but they have a huge variety of cheese (shocking)! There’s a restaurant next door, too.
We stopped by here for lunch and what a great spot! We all had sandwiches which were huge and so filling! They were super tasty. The staff were lovely and I loved the feel of this place, we ate our lunch outside. We had just come from a wine tour so purchased some of the local cheese here too.
A homely sandwich and coffee spot. Had their brisket sandwich and thoroughly enjoyed their sandwich. Nice and juicy. Had their Cafe au Lait. Was on a milder side for its coffee. Smelled their coffee beans and liked their “Sonoma’s Best” and “Let’s Go Camping”
We stopped in on a recommendation from a friend. The staff is super friendly and engaging. We walked around town a bit and came back for lunch. AMAZING! We had the 3 sides and a side of bacon. All of it is super delicious! Also a side of Mac and cheese! Awsome!
Not to be dramatic, but the smoked turkey sandwich is quite literally the best sandwich I’ve ever had. Cheese is melted perfectly, and it comes with some sort of green sauce that will change your life. Idk, I can’t describe it. Just go try it.
Sleeper breakfast spot! Absolutely incredible breakfast options. Dog friendly out front! You need to get the brisket breakfast burrito! You won’t regret it!

The Chorizo sandwich was excellent with some heat in the meat. Wife's Cubano was also well received. Prices reasonable for the area.

Highly recommended. Good sandwich. Great selection of cheese and wines.
My husband and I love coming here for lunch. The brisket sandwich and chicken ham sandwich with a side of potato salad were delicious!
I thoroughly enjoyed the very very delicious chili here; it was a perfect ratio of all of the ingredients accompanied by a nice but and some excellent, buttery sourdough bread and it was also a very excellent value! I was so pleased that they seemed to have something for everyone here as I'm not usually much of a sandwich person. My husband's tri tip sandwich was great tasting as well. Excellent, friendly, and inviting service!
The 3 slider combo was delicious and the Mac n Cheese is literally to die for! Food was fresh and they had ice cold glass bottles drinks and alcoholic drinks too. Definitely worth checking out if and when you're in the area.

Really neat shop. It has a big selection of craft beer, in house jack cheeses, wine, and quality food. They have 4 local beers on tap and lots of sonoma wines.
Had a great lunch experience. We also bought some of the products that they were offering. Friendly staff.
Very nice selection and the staff was very cordial. Not a fan of having to walk through the store to pay for items bought at the sandwich shop. But guessing this is a marketing ploy to get you to sample and buy from the other depts. in the store.
Too bad I didn't have the patience to queue! The selection of cheeses to taste were incredibly tasty. It's very popular here as its next to the carpark so tour groups walk thru here for tastings and purchases including takeaway food (sandwiches, grilled panini as well as prepacked cold eats like cubes of cheese with grape)! Everything looked divine but the queue (ughh) lacked order so I just couldn't. Just have to come back!
Although the cheese factory offers a diverse selection of local and imported cheeses, it lacks a crucial element: a cheese tasting experience. In a region renowned for its tasting attractions, this omission is a significant shortcoming. The establishment has ample space within its dining area to curate a simple cheese board featuring various types of cheeses, complemented by suitable accompaniments.
My wife and I went here on a Groupon for a beer and cheese tasting. Our experience was wonderful. The place seems busy but not on the tasting side. We were a little confused by the signage telling us exactly where to go but we asked someone and they told us. There are 4 checkout stands all in different places in the store. The beer was amazing and the cheese was delicious. The Spanish almonds are out of this world. The presentation was clean and simple. We enjoyed pairing beers with cheese In a place where wine is king. It's different and that's what drew us. Nice area to walk after drinking too. Sonoma square is beautiful
This is a cute little restaurant with a market. My daughter enjoyed cheese tasting. We ordered chicken tacos for my daughter since she was hungry. I tasted it and it was delicious with the hot sauce. I didn't like the coleslaw. The young chef cooks outside in the grill and you can sit and watch him. It's next to to the Napa historical mission. And they have both outside and indoor sitting
I was a bit disappointed in the cheese tasting. Had to keep asking to try different cheeses, having to get their attention each time. Ate at the BBQ place and had the platter. Was very good.
We sampled a lot of delicious cheese, and will definitely be back to buy more. Good news: they carry a lot of beautiful Sonoma and Wine Country souvenir sweatshirts, and I considered buying one. Bad news: sizes and prices are posted nowhere on the sweatshirts, and even the guy behind the counter couldn't tell us the sizes or prices. Poor marketing: if they want to sell more of these attractive sweatshirts, they need to rethink that.
I love that there is more than just cheese here! I got a really good tri tip sandwich here. The meat was tender and the BBQ sauce was a prefect fit for the sandwich. The also have wine tasting here. We got a bottle and sat outside and drank it while we enjoyed lunch. This is a lot more than just a cheese shop. They have fudge, ice cream or gelato (I can't remember which), and a lot of wines and wine accessories. It's a fun shop to stop in and grab a lunch to go or to dine at while you're out and about in Sonoma.
Small town market where you can pick up all your picnic essentials. Great assortment of local wine and cheese with an ice cream parlor located in the back of the store. Features a beer and wine tasting area with friendly and informative staff.
it opens early, before the town wakes up. the breakfast burrito with brisket/tri-tip are crazy good stuffed with eggs and meat. what’s not to like.
Delicious food! Friendly staff! Awful music on the patio!
Great place with excellent selection for artisanal items that pair well with whatever wine you’re tasting in the area. Perfect place to start the day, take a lunch break, or finish adventures over a beer or plenty of other beverages.
Cheese, wine and charcuterie meats on the square. The store is a little tired and looks like it is closed from the outside, but they have a very good range of cheeses and meats and lots of other goods as well. So look past the 1970s ambience and enjoy all that is on offer.

Cheese and Gelato were great but we waited 50 minutes for a burger and a sandwich. They told us to come back then the buzzer went off, it never did, so when I went to stand in line, it finally went off. My burger was cold by the time I got it.
My wife and I stopped in at the Sonomo Cheese Factory during a wine tour back in June. We both love cheese and weren’t disappointed with many various types out for tasting. From memory they were all hard cheeses and we didn’t mind them at all… To be totally honest my memory isn’t great when it comes to the cheese because I was quite distracted by the selection of craft beers and ciders. I was not prepared for this and was completely blow away by the selection!! They had almost any style of beer you could want and the pricing wasn’t bad either (that being said we were visiting from Australia where the beer prices are a little outlandish compared to the USA). I could have stayed all day sampling beers… We found the staff friendly and pleasant to deal with. If you are in the area you should check it out for sure.
It was alright an experience for me. Location is very nicely positioned in front of the carpark, which was great. Inside the place though, was a little messy, and a little too large for comfort. There's a shop section, a wine section, a cheese section (with free cheese samples), and a deli section (which is perpetually crowded with people ordering and waiting for their food). Make sure you pull a number tag from the counter instead of blindly queueing for the deli! Food was average; nothing fanciful.
Cheese tastings are not the same as before. Not enough employees to serve customers. You order at one end of the shop and have to go around to other end of the shop to pay. Then back again find the kitchen to get your order. Undisciplined kitchen . you have to remind them that you have an order over there. There are few table and chairs which are not enough for all the people who order food to eat there . The park in front is beautiful with lots of picnic tables which can be used in good weather. Excellent Playground for kids.
I’ve never been here before. From internet research I was under the impression it was a cheese and wine and maybe specialty food item store. The google description says “Relaxed venue with cheese samples, grilled meats, wine tasting and other local goods.” It does have a nice selection of cheeses in a cooler, but the store is oddly compartmentalized into a sandwich ordering counter, a small wine tasting area, and the whole back of the store was some sort of food pickup (maybe the sandwiches, it wasnt clear). There were speakers blaring loud music. Even if you wanted to taste wine the blaring speakers made us move past and out the door, you wouldn’t even be able to hear what the wine host would be saying and all you would be looking at is people standing in line ordering sandwiches. Just wanted to let others know, to me, this was not a “relaxed venue.” To me it seemed to be more like a deli.
In the beautiful environs of the old Cheese Factory, new Butchermans has only premade sandwiches ($17), no deli, and no Sonoma Cheese! I got the Mac& cheese which was served cold and tasted bland. Long walk to pickup too. Too bad, used to love this place.
Great cappuccino and service from barrista. Even though the mushroom burger I had on the same day was disappointing, I was impressed and delighted to receive a personal phone call from John, in their corporate ops, who was genuinely interested in my feedback. I can’t wait to go back and try their food again and hopefully come back and up update this review to five stars:^)

The second star is for the various, well-protected cheese samples. The Lavender Cheddar was a particular favorite of mine. Now for the missing stars. First up, so many flies. They had all the door wide open, which meant that the customers were just bombarded with flies as they walked around. I didn't want to order a sandwich here because of the issue, but my family was eating there, so I sucked it up. I got the Sonoma deli sandwich. It was just okay. There was a lot of mustard, which overwhelmed the overall flavor of everything else in the sandwich. Lastly, we sat in the indoor café area to eat. While there, I witnessed 10 customers walk up to the café counter, many of whom looked like they wished to order, but there was no employee present. They missed all of those sales because the employees kept wandering out to the patio or around to the front. Overall, I understand that we were there on a Thursday, which may not be the busiest day of the week and was reflected in staffing levels, but the overall atmosphere and service quality of this establishment was very disappointing. Frankly, I'm amazed they remain able to serve food with the quantity of flying pests I saw.
Ordered online. The cheese was shipped on Friday and received on Monday, not packed in ice or a cooler, just a cardboard box. We also did not receive the olives I ordered. I emailed twice and was told the cheese would be "just fine" with no mention of our missing items. Very Disappointed.
Had very poor experience when we stopped as part of a bus tour. Sonoma Cheese Factory has a ridiculous system of ordering. You have to go to front, wait in line and place your order. Then you have to go to back, wait in line AGAIN and pay for your order. THEN you have to go back up front and WAIT AGAIN for your order. After placing my order and paying and waiting up front for 25 minutes for my sandwich I asked what was taking so long and got a curt reply. After waiting another 10 minutes I asked again as out tour bus lunch stop was for 45 minutes and the employee was again unhelpful. After complaining a THIRD TIME I was treated rudely so I requested a refund. I was then told to go to the back and had to WAIT AGAIN for the manager who issued a refund without an apology. I had to continue on the tour without a decent meal and barely made it back to the bus on time. This delay prevented our ability to explore and shop in Sonoma and should not have happened My recommendation is to eat elsewhere especially if you have less than an hour to waste. My recommendation to Sonoma Cheese Factory is to update your ordering system and educate your employees on courtesy to customers. You are serving a tourist clientele and you need to get up to speed and do a better job.
If I could give this zero stars I would. I have been going to The Cheese Factory for 58 years. Since I was a little kid. One of my favorite places to go and to take visitors. Since the change of ownership it has gone to hell in a hand basket. I guess ownership really will tell. Very bad experience today. Long wait. Not warm and welcoming. Acted like doing us a favor waiting on us. Miss the Vivianis! By the way many of the good reviews from when former owners ran the place are still up. They should have to come from new ownership. Earn your own stars. If possible…….ruining one of Sonomas landmarks.
We visited this place but will not be back. We are fortunate and are financially stable, however, we do not feel the need to show it. We also teach our children to be humble as well. Unfortunately for this place, they seem to judge based on how people look. If they think you are not really buying anything, they treat you as if you are invisible. Neither of the 3 workers acknowledged any of us. There are many other businesses I would rather give my money to than one that treats certain customers as 2nd class citizens. Not all was lost as this was a good learning experience for my kids to see first hand how closed minded and ignorant some people can be regardless of who they are or what profession they are in.
This place has no consistency with the food I like the BLT sandwich I have been there 4 times just for that Every time is different First time full of meat 4 slices 2nd time just one slice 3rd time 2 slices last time just one again Seems your sandwich depends of the mood of the person it makes it Same with a trip sandwich my wife likes every time they are different Also brisket to go same amount of pounds 1st time 4 pieces second time 2,5 pieces We are not going back there are other places around there much better
Terrible. Been coming here off and on for 35 years. Today went in and asked for a cheese sandwich. Told they only do what is on the board. You can’t make a simple cheese sandwich in the ‘Cheese’ Factory. Ridiculous. Two ex customers.
So very disappointed in the “New” Cheese Factory. Grew up in Sonoma and went there all the time. After moving away, returned to Sonoma twice a year and never missed going at least once during visits. Since it has been taken over by new owners and management it’s a joke. Went today and there were no more than 8 people in the whole place. They said they could not make custom sandwiches because they were swamped. I had to laugh. Back in the day they had customers lined up out the door and were still able to deliver better and faster service while making customers sandwiches. The staff making sandwiches today were eating chips out of bags and touching their mouths while preparing sandwiches for customers. VERY un-sanitary. New owners need to pay attention if they care about being profitable. This place was an institution in our town and it’s sad to have lost the “experience” of this favorite shop.
Stopped by on 8/9 right before they closed up and asked for fresh parm and some other items. A man went to the back and grabbed some options for parm, I choose one and checked out. I just used the cheese and it's been expired since 7/28 and has mold on it. Completely devastating since I'm 7 months pregnant and drove 45 min there for a craving and day out with my kids before school starts. But left with expired moldy cheese for $10 😳
Order sandwiches an hour before closing or you’re out of luck! On Saturday, March 29 we went to Sonoma Cheese Factory after wine tasting at two wineries. We wanted a couple sandwiches and chips. It was 3:50 pm and they close at 5:00. We waited in line for nearly 10 minutes. We were looking at their sandwich menu when it suddenly changed into a ‘video’ of a crackling fireplace. We got to the counter at 4:00 and said we wanted to order sandwiches. She said, “The kitchen is closed. We’re not serving anymore.” No apology to those of us in line for 10+ minutes. This was an hour before closing on a busy Saturday afternoon. How could we infer from a video of a fireplace that they were no longer serving food? Really? Maybe display a sign reading: ‘No food orders after 4:00.’ Make an announcement. Talk to people in line and say, “After the next customer, the kitchen is closed.” Put a sign on the door reading: We stop taking food orders at 4:00. SOMETHING! We frequent Sonoma on a regular basis; however, we will not be taking visitors to Sonoma Cheese Factory.
I was expecting everything to be perfect, but I ended up hating my hazelnut croissant because it was dry and not flaky. I asked an employee why it was dry, and he told me it was from Friday. It was Sunday afternoon, and they refused to make an exception to provide something fresh. This shows they’re knowingly selling old, dry baked goods without any concern. I refuse to support this place anymore and will dispute the charge with my credit card company. It’s a shame because the place looked so inviting—only to reveal itself as just a facade.
