Cute cafe and bakery in DT Sonoma. This place was buzzing in the late afternoon. We popped in for some coffee and a bite to eat. Service was pretty quick at the counter and I had to go for the slice of veggie pizza and a coffee. A bit pricier which we expected being in this area but we found a small corner table to sit and relax for the time being. They warmed up my pizza and I thought it was quite tasty. They had some good looking pastries but nothing GF for my hubby. Will definitely come back!

Went to MODEL bakery yesterday for the first time,having driven by many times…it was busy but the line flowed and service was efficient. The vegi scramble sandwich was very tasty as was apricot muffin and Java. I was able to find one spot for standing at front window corner,next to a laptop with no nerd. As I was nearing the end of excellent breakfast,said nerd returned. I mentioned having a slow iPad at home,he immediately livened up with sarcastic “remedies”. Twas an interesting morning experience.

If you’re looking for those tiny artisanal cakes with edible petals and $12 price tags — keep walking. Modal is all about the real stuff: fresh bread, solid pies, chewy cookies. The kind of baked goods that actually fill you up and don’t come with a side of snobbery. We tried the banana bread (moist and comforting), the English muffin (pillowy perfection), and an espresso that… took its sweet time. Now, the real highlight wasn’t even the espresso — it was the silent ballet of introversion I got to witness while waiting for it. My husband, who would rather surrender all caffeine than speak to a stranger, had to go back up because we forgot the receipt. The guy at the counter — who bore a striking resemblance to Harry Potter, complete with that “don’t want to trouble you but also want to do right by you” vibe — met him with equal levels of socially awkward kindness. What unfolded was two introverts politely circling the issue: my husband hovering hesitantly near the counter, the barista wanting to help but also caught up taking new orders. Neither wanted to inconvenience the other, yet both were completely committed to resolving the espresso situation. It was quiet, hesitant, and oddly heartwarming — like watching two turtles bow at each other. It was a hot day. And this tiny, almost nothing of an interaction stayed with me — something I didn’t fully savor until now, writing this. Modal has good baked goods, yes. But apparently, it also serves up delicate, unsaid moments of humanity. I’ll take that with my coffee, any day.

Late Dec2024 Passed by on an afternoon while walking along the commercial area of the toen of St Helena. Unfortunately, a lot of the products have already sold out, which is a good sign usually of the popularity of specific goods. The service is primary behind the counter. The interiors are very simple and more appropriate for takeaways only.

3 for service. On Google maps it shows they close at 4:30pm but the staff closed the doors at 4 and informed us we had to leave. When I mentioned that they should then correct the time info on google because it is confusing. The girl who worked as a cashier and seemed to be the manager too was very straight forward and not polite. In general the bakery was fine. They got good coffee and pastries.

Lovely bakery. We ordered sandwiches as displayed on the menu. The chicken salad on a croissant and the special vegan veggie sandwich on a weat bread . After about 5 minutes they told us that they are our of the croissant and the weat bread. So we substituted. But the bread was still great. The place is at main street and at times very busy.

Really good bakery! It was a great pit stop for a coffee and pastry. Unfortunately, their hours are wildly incorrect online. They close at 4pm (Thursday) while it says 5:30pm online. We felt rushed eating and drinking our coffee. Otherwise, delicious!

This could have been a 5 star review - so why not you ask?! The chaos is the answer. It’s pure chaos and mayhem due to popularity it’s packed and multiple lines and doors not knowing who’s coming going etc. So don’t go when you are ‘hangry’ it will get worse. The food is incredible, worth the wait. But definitely would have ordered and ate more if we could relax versus deal with the chaos and pressure of being in stuffy interior and lines of people. Not to mention so many chalkboard boards to read. Seriously - i would rather scan a QR code so I can at least look at one single list and pick my food. No surprise when we got our order and sat outside to eat, they forgotten one of our pastries. Almost a duh! it’s surprising they got the rest of the order correctly. Get a receipt so if something is missing they can better help you. Anyhow… onice you get past all this, you can finally relax and eat the incredible tasty sandwiches and pastries. The English muffin breakfast sandwich with sausage is to die for. I could eat here every morning but the stress they induce with the chaos during ordering process stopped me from doing so. Definitely worth one stop if not more, maybe go when it’s not packed. Enjoy!

They CAN'T serve hot coffee. Let me repeat that. They CAN'T and won't serve hot coffee. That doubles for latte. They have no microwave and won't heat your tepid coffee. They are inflexible, unable to pivot or think outside of their limited capabilities. Their baked goods are wonderful! Any complaint/issues are treated with bad grace. I've moved along to more flexible businesses with wonderful HOT coffee.

I was passing through from out of town. Atmosphere was ok but their prices are high. They should at least allow coffee refills for a discount but they don’t.

The English muffin IS good - no doubt. But the experience was not good. Pretty rude staff who seemed annoyed that we dared to exist. We ordered a toasted English muffin with butter - would have thought we’d get a properly buttered (with good butter) muffin. Nope.

Worst coffee I ever had. I ordered a latte, I didn’t order milk. You need to train your baristas how to make a latte. They made a latte that had some room remaining in the cup and then I watched them pour milk to fill up the rest of the cup. I asked them to remake it with less milk and they refused to do so. (They could’ve added ice to fill up the cup and not dilute the coffee and make it into milk with a tiny bit of espresso).It was nasty and I took one sip and threw it out.

I was standing in line when a staff member came and told me to move forward to order. But after I placed my order, they gave the item to the person behind me instead. This was a terrible service experience. I really don’t understand — if there’s a line, the person who comes first should be served first. What’s the point of having a queue if staff ignore it? I come here often and have never experienced anything like this before. The team management should really provide proper staff training. If there’s a designated line for ordering, please make sure it’s respected.

We love Model and live far away now. Purchased two packages of muffins at SFO Terminal 2 market yesterday on my way through. This morning we opened the package to find moldy muffins. No date of expiration anywhere on packaging and they were so expensive for less quantity! Heartbroken and wanted to share as this is unacceptable.
