Everything we ordered was impressive and full of flavor. The Veg Chili Mono and paneer Shimla mirch with gravy were customized exactly as we asked, and both dishes tasted amazing. The Chilli Chicken came in a very generous portion, more than enough to satisfy. From taste to quantity, everything was spot on. Truly a five star dining experience.

The Gurkha Kitchen, a well-known Nepali restaurant that has been titillating taste buds in California since 2019, is to add three more locations around the Golden State as part of a savory expansion of its culinary empire. This growth is evidence of the restaurant's enduring appeal to both Californians and Nepali expats traveling to the United States. The Gurkha Kitchen has built a solid reputation for serving up a real taste of Nepal, and its expansion should make this mouthwatering experience more accessible to foodies throughout the state. The Gurkha Kitchen's delectable Nepali cuisine, which features a special fusion of tastes and fragrant spices, has drawn diners in droves time and time again. The restaurant has brought a wide variety of Nepali delicacies to Californians, sparking a craze among culinary lovers, from traditional mo:mo dumplings to rich curries and aromatic rice dishes. More people will be able to enjoy the restaurant's trademark dishes and learn about the essence of Nepal's culinary tradition in three more locations. The Gurkha Kitchen has an impact beyond California since Nepali Americans from all over the country make it a point to stop by this restaurant whenever they are in the state. The Gurkha Kitchen wants to carry out its purpose of introducing a larger audience to the genuine tastes of Nepal and cultivating a greater appreciation for Nepali cuisine as it sets off on this exciting growth adventure.
I recently dined at this outlet and had an amazing experience! The momos were perfectly steamed, the veg thali was deliciously authentic, the fish pakora was crispy and flavorful, and the wai wai bhel was a unique and tasty twist. Overall, a must-visit for anyone craving a variety of mouthwatering dishes!
This was our first time trying Nepali food, and we were very satisfied with our experience at The Gurkha Kitchen. The food was delicious, flavorful, and well prepared. The staff were friendly and welcoming, which made us feel comfortable trying something new. We really enjoyed our meal and would definitely come back again. Highly recommended!
Any indian or Nepali restaurant that offers free chai when you wall in and hospitality that is unmatched. Visit the Gurkha Kitchen and feel the love of Nepali culture and amazing hospitality. I nearly cried tears of joy when then gave eme such grace and inclusivity without even giving them anything. I had to return the favor of giving them best praise I have yet to offer a "business" this is where you go when you want to feel at home. Nay imma stay.
We tried vegetable momos both steamed and soupy alongside veg chowmein noodles. To be honest we have not tasted such amazing veg momos in last few years. The service and ambience complemented the food appropriately. To sum it up the food was soulful and very well prepared. Shree was our server and she was very cordial and provided excellent suggestions. Highly recommend visiting The Gurkha Kitchen to taste authentic nepalese cuisine.
Food: Absolutely delicious! Every dish was bursting with authentic Nepali and Indian flavors. The momo dumplings were perfectly steamed and packed with flavor, and the sauce was yummy! the butter chicken was rich, creamy, and well-balanced. You can tell everything is made fresh with quality ingredients. The portions are generous too — definitely worth every bite! Vibe: Cozy, clean, and welcoming. perfect for both a casual dinner or a relaxed date night. The decor is simple yet charming, with a peaceful ambiance. We arrived for late lunch and was t busy at all. Service: The staff is friendly, attentive, and genuinely cares about your experience. Our server took the time to explain the dishes and made great recommendations. Food came out quickly, and they checked in just the right amount. Highly recommend Gurka Kitchen to anyone looking for authentic flavors, great service, and a comfortable dining experience in Sunnyvale!
Visited this place for a group dinner (8 people), and everything was perfect! The food arrived on time, and the flavors were spot on. We ordered jhol momo, buttan, choila, and khasi ko sekuwa khaja set. Every dish was delicious. The atmosphere felt just like a typical Nepali restaurant with Nepali music and prayer flags. Would come back here again for the food and service.
Favorite Nepalese restaurant in Peninsula/South Bay! Love the unique flavors here. Reminds me of restaurants in the East Bay that are hard to come by around here. This place is a staple for our family now and we always get a thali plate (they are AMAZING!), then complement with a selection of other dishes. Our kids love the butter chicken which is on the sweet side and has a rich tomato flavor.
Absolutely loved our lunch at The Gurkha Kitchen in Sunnyvale! The jhol momos were perfectly spiced and comforting, the steamed momos with achar were fresh and flavorful, and the Nepali thali set brought back true taste of home—everything was authentic and delicious. The ambiance is inviting and the hospitality even warmer. Big shoutout to the owners—proud to support friends who are doing such an amazing job representing Nepali cuisine! Highly recommend this hidden gem to anyone craving real Himalayan flavors.
I recently visited The Gurkha Kitchen in Sunnyvale and was absolutely blown away. If you’re craving authentic Nepali cuisine, this place is a hidden gem in the Bay Area. I ordered the Goat Thali, and it was hands down the best I’ve ever had. The goat curry was incredibly tender, flavorful, and perfectly spiced. The thali came with aromatic basmati rice, mixed vegetables, fresh greens, crispy papad, and delicious lentils. Everything was well-balanced and tasted homemade. The restaurant atmosphere is cozy and full of culture – prayer flags, mountain, and traditional Nepali decor give it a warm, welcoming vibe. The service was friendly, and the portions were generous. Whether you’re Nepali or just love trying new cuisines, The Gurkha Kitchen is a must-visit for a taste of the Himalayas right here in the Bay Area.
We had a good lunch at this Nepalese-Indian restaurant in Sunnyvale. The food was flavorful and well-prepared. We ordered the Pahadi chicken curry (chicken cooked in an onion tomato sauce) and mix mass tamari (mixed vegetable curry), both of which were quite good, along side rice and roti. The curries were slightly on the salty side but not overly rich or heavy as we find at some other Indian restaurants. The service was very attentive. It wasn’t too busy for a weekday lunch, which made for a pleasant and relaxed meal. The only downside is that the prices are a bit higher compared to other Indian restaurants in the area, but the quality of the food and service makes it worth considering. We would come back to try their momos and other dishes.
This is a homey mom and pop shop. The food is AUTHENTIC! Momos are good! The fish is good! Get the combos/thalis! They are delicious and you can get more sides for free! Service was great! And offered more rice and water without us asking!!! Love this neighborhood place! Definitely worth a try!
Food is good, service can be better. Most of the time there is not even a single spoon even after selecting “Please include utensils” on my pick up order. Regular server is good, I see difference in experience per people. Today I ordered 3-4 items for pick up with “Please include utensils”selected. I enter to pick up my order, attendant is busy on the phone on the counter. I asked if that is my order and if spoon were in the bag. (No spoon on the bag) and I asked for spoons and I get 1 spoon for 3-4 items and she is back on the phone. I think this can be improved. Thanks!
Ended up going to this place as we wanted a restaurant that serves both Spring Rolls and Gobi Manchurian, to satisfy all the cravings of our party. It wasn’t crowded for a Thursday dinner. Needless to say, we ordered their Spring Rolls and Gobi Manchurian. Spring Rolls were crispy on the outside but the inside was indiscernible, no distinguishable veggies, just one paste/goo, probably potato. This is a 2/5. Gobi Manchurian was a 3/5. The Gobi was crispy on the outside, just how it should be, but the sauce was a huge let down. It was very very ketchup-y. We also ordered Veg Chowmein which was alright, but definitely not worth $16. No veggies of note, nothing expensive like broccoli or snap peas or anything. 3/5 for the taste, 2/5 for the price. The only dish of note was the Nepalese Veg Thukpa which is soupy noodles, like Ramen. The soup was tasty although the turmeric in it was a bit overpowering. The noodles was the same as the one in chowmein. Good quantity. 4/5. Didn’t try the momos. In summary, I think Everest Cuisine is a better option for taste and definitely on the price, and the number of options. Or, there’s always Inchin’s Bamboo garden or Red Hot Chilli Pepper. Similarly priced but better taste and overall experience.
This was my first ever order from this restaurant and certainly will be the LAST one. I ordered two plates of veg momos from Gurkha Kitchen (Sunnyvale) through Uber Eats for my mum, and the experience was extremely disappointing. The momos were bland, had no flavor, and felt like they were made with way too much flour and was almost raw. They didn’t taste like proper momos at all, and my mum was genuinely upset after looking forward to this meal. For $12 per plate, I expected decent quality, but this was far below standard. Really hope the restaurant takes this seriously and improves their momo recipe, because this was not acceptable.
