A go to place if you crave for Japanese food. I like the variety they have from noodle to sushi to traditional dishes. Always delicious! People are very friendly there.
Very low key! It was nice to be able to converse with my friends...
I am going to this place once a week for Nabeyaki udon. This food makes me happy and relax as hot pot udon with all vegetables and chicken tastes amazing!
Stopped by for lunch on a weekday and had a good experience. For the price, the portions are generous and satisfying. Service was fast and the staff were friendly throughout. I ordered the beef combination plate and enjoyed it. The flavors were solid and what I was hoping for. It’s a good spot to grab a quick sit-down lunch with a coworker.
Food is great. Staff is even better. Love it here. Probably eat here 3 days a week at minimum!
Although the place is small, it reminds me of the small restaurants in Japan. It is a must go to. Food is oishi and the prices are reasonable.
This is one of my favorite spots for soba. The food is delicous and price is reasonable. The restaurant is very clean and the staff attentive and incredibly nice! You are served tea with your order. The daily special includes a salad, noodles of choice (udon or soba), tempura, and sushi. I chose the tentoji don with Zaru soba on my recent visit. Food never disappoints!
This place is one of those places that you can keep coming back to for good japanese comfort food. When I think about Matsui, it gives me a nice warm feeling which is reflected in it's atmosphere. The lighting is warm, the noise is full of laughter and joy. The food is amazing! I always get a combo and it's been consistent for the 10 years I've been coming here!
Great Japanese food here. We ordered the eel bowl (Una Don) combination and the Manager's Special. It was a large amount of food and was very good. Service was a little slow, but they did come by often to check on us. The dining area as well as the bathrooms were clean. If I lived close to here, I'd definitely come back to try more menu items.
Great manager special lunch value. Sushi ngiri was excellent. Miso was better than sabo and udon soups.
It’s honestly not what I would describe as WOW AMAZING 🤯 I would imagine as really delicious home made Japanese comfort food. The portions are also good because it’s not too little or too much. After you finish eating, it feels just right. Staff is also very welcoming and kind.
My wife and I love this place. Solid Japanese restaurant with a good collection of menu items. Have never had to wait for a seat and the service is usually great. The tempura is very solid and we love the combination plates that come with a bowl of udon noodles. Proportion-wise, they are quite generous compared to most Japanese restaurants. The sushi special is always a great option as well that get you some variety!
Went for a Wednesday lunch and had their lunch special which included reen salad with a light Asian dressing,4 nigiri sushi, 1 hand roll (originally a spicy tuna roll, but they offered to make it a California roll), some udon with green onion and a kamaboko slice, and 4 pcs of vegetable tempura and a shrimp tempura for less than $16. And free green tea which was refilled a couple of times, even though it was busy with a couple of groups waiting. Food was delicious and reasonably priced.
Good, comfort food-like Japanese food experience. Their combos are quite generous and priced well. The food is nothing over-the-top but rather felt solid and had no weaknesses in any particular dish. Waiting for a table can take a little while if you have a party over 4.
Fantastic Japanese food. Great bowls, great sushi, but definitely get the tempura. Some cool artifacts for baseball fans as well.
Matsui is my favorite lunch and dinner spot! The food is always amazing, and the prices are just as good. I love their combos — I’ve tried most of them by now, and they’re all so good. My favorite lately has been the soba and sushi combo. Try their eel too! The service is always consistent, and the food is always consistent too, which I really appreciate. Everything is fresh, tasty, and just hits the spot every single time. Highly recommend if you’re craving sushi, noodles, or both!
Lunch special was incredible, very friendly service and delicious food! Highly recommend
Visited Matsui this past weekend after a while, and it’s still one of those spots that just hits. The menu’s big, so you can go classic or mix it up depending on what you’re feeling, and everything feels consistent without being boring. The nabeyaki udon was the standout for me — warm, hearty, and perfect for a chilly night. Katsu don and the soft shell crab salad are also solid picks, and the zaru soba and okonomiyaki are worth trying if you want something different. Portions are decent, prices feel fair, and it’s one of those spots you can reliably come back to when you want good Japanese comfort food without overthinking it.
Their lunch special and dinner specials are pretty good! The price is very reasonable. I went on the weekend, they only have dinner special all weekend! It’s $16.95 for sushi + tempura + udon + salad. I think it’s worth it! Their portions are also pretty good. They serve barley tea instead of water so it’s different. The space is small and it does get busy during lunch hour. They did add an outdoor seating so that’s nice since it’s still during pandemic. They do not ask for your vaccine card, but the staffs do wear their masks.
Delicious, authentic Japanese cuisine. It’s totally worth the price for the quality of the food. Cold udon was especially amazing - so chewy, so yummy. The server is so sweet and kind, and parking is easy. I’ll definitely be back!
Authentic Japanese restaurant, great food, especially udon soup, reasonably priced and very kind and attentive service. I love their spicy salmon and spicy tuna handroll as well. Shrimp and vegetable tempura is excellent too. But everything I tried is delicious.
Definitely an authentic Japanese spot hidden in a completely Japanese strip mall. Everyone enjoyed their dishes. Even our 7 year old competition devoured her soba noodles and tempura (to my dismay - getting expensive to eat out!). The tempura was nicely fried. The flavors were good. The one piece of sashimi my family gave up for me to try was also very fresh. I have no complaints and would definitely come back again!
Delicious food, good service! Came for lunch , waited about 15 minutes for seating and food came out so quick. The lunch special is perfect if you want a little bit of everything: nigiri, unagi handroll, tempura, and choice of hot or cold udon/soba. The combination sets are filling (with choice of noodles or rice dishes).
There are a lot of amazing choices to eat in the plaza. For one really sweet spot is Matsui! The prices is unbelievably low and the food choices is awesome. It is a really "feel good" place to eat and relax. The dinner special is $16 and it comes with udon or soba, salad, sushi, and 🍤 tempura. You really cannot beat a dish like that! Food is good and service here is great!!!
Been coming here for years. The service is great. The food's great. Prices are great. This is my happy place. You can't go wrong with the manager special or the matsui bowl. If you are confused on what to get on the menu for your first time. You will get full. I've come back for birthday dinners and family lunches and dinners. Always been a hit with everyone I bring by here. The tempura is top-notch tasty. And has never let me down. If you go weekdays upon open. You'll hit the senior crew piling into the tables. So it's a very chill and relaxed environment. Evenings are a totally mixed crowd from college students to families. Good vibes. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 🍜

I've tried a lot of Japanese food and saw this restaurant and went in. It's small, cheap, and delicious. It exceeded my expectations..😋

Good food that is delicious. The lunch special is a great price and includes udon, tempura and sushi. They serve hojicha (cold barley tea) which was refreshing especially on the hot day that I went. Definitely will be going back.
I've been coming to this place since it was Mishima in the 90's. It's 2026 and I still come with my daughter whenever I come to Torrance area. I hope the place lasts as long as it can. My favorites are tanin don and sansai don, not to mention the hot udon.

This is one of my favorite Japanese restaurants in Torrance. I love their servers, they are warm and friendly. Love their manager as well. Food is decent and good prices. We go there at least 2 times a month.
This Matsui restaurant is small, nice & clean. The employees were great fast paced. Definitely the owner was excellent!! Super busy!! The food was amazing well cooked. You can’t go wrong. The sushi was alright but Go Go Matsui bowl & the cold soba was a bomb. Totally insane. I really liked it. Come early in the morning before the customers arrive. The seat gets full at all times.
Remember when $20 got you a good meal? Well, Matsui to the rescue! The Manager's Special you get sushi, assorted tempura, a bowl of soba (or udon) and a side salad. All for $18? I mean it's a legit-ly good meal!
Small, cozy, aesthetic interior. Food was OK: nabeyaki udon good, zaru soba tough and just not refreshing, side of fried mushrooms was good, softshell crab flavor was questionable (maybe not fresh) & salad good, takoyaki was ooewy-gooey yummy but only one person liked it, okonomiyake was basically a pancake, not at all the noodle version--would not order again. Service good. The most popular is $17.75 manager's special, seemed 80-90% of patrons ordered it. Great combo.
Had the manager special and it was delicious. The tempura was airy and crispy, not dense. Udon broth was not sweet and pleasing, al dente udon. The sushi was good. The salad was excellent. Good value and healthy meal. I'll definitely come back. Food came quick and service was fast.
Not really a place for sashimi lovers, but has pretty decent deal for nigiri, tempura, and udon special combination. The tempura is cooked very well. The karage could have been juicier, but overall still pretty good.

This place is remarkable for its excellent prices and quite large portions of classic Japanese diner food. The quality is solid, too. I particularly liked their takes on karaage and sunomono. I also liked that they serve mugicha by default instead of ice water—an unexpected but very nice touch! Our only complaint was that the kitchen was oddly slow to send out the karaage and appetizers, which only showed up twenty minutes after all the other food had made it to the table. Not sure what was going on there, but I'm certainly willing to come back and try more of the menu!
This place has good price for large amount of food. The food tastes healthy because the flavor is on the bland side. Both the udon broth and beef onion with special sauce could used more flavor. Decent place for casual inexpensive meal.
Nice little Japanese restaurant. If you are looking for good sushi, this is not the place. The fish on the sushi was really thin and cut rolls were not good. Barely any fish inside the roll. the tempura was tasty and the ramen was good. The service was excellent and the food came quickly.
Katzdon, soba just ok. Broken scallop temaki not tasted scallop. Service not bad.
