This was one of my best brunches on my recent LA trip. Sure, it might’ve been an hour wait, but here in Melbourne, the top breakfast places on the weekend, you’re waiting a similar amount of time. I enjoyed the food and the menu, it was a bit hard to choose what I wanted! The pancakes were amazing, coffee was slightly on the bitter side. The staff were attentive and friendly. I’d go back and try the dinner menu.

Very unique place. It was my first time and I ended up being very pleased. The menu is huge, more than 50 different options. We got dishes to share: mushrooms, coliflower, and the steak. Delicious! The service was nice. They have a very cute outdoor area but those flies poking around were super annoying. No valet but you can easily find street parking on the blocks behind.

Well now I understand why this restaurant is #1 on all the must-do lists about LA. Apparently it has owned that position for some time. Every dish seems to be of signature-dish quality, extensive and impressive menu. Helpful wine-team to assist with a well thought out wine list. We took an early 5.30pm booking so we could bring our toddler and staff were very accommodating and delightful. I want to go back tomorrow, always a good sign.

I’ve been to Gjelina a couple of times and both times the food that went into my mouth was pretty high up on the amazing scale. Reservations are limited and fill up days in advance so if you want to sit at a more comfy table, make sure to plan ahead. There are high top communal tables which aren’t quite as comfortable and which are crowded with other people right up in you…(which either you’ll love or hate) and the wait for those can be upwards of an hour…but in the end, either way, the food is well worth it. They serve wine and wine cocktails (not a full bar or true liquor cocktails) But don’t let that bother you as really you’re here for the delicious food. That having been said I had the Merciful Thieves “mixed drink” (white wine, sweet vermouth and honey) and it was quite refreshing. (Of course you’re not always going for refreshing when it comes to cocktails but it worked for me. A slight ding for being a no-substitutions place. I’m a vegetarian and my wife eats gluten free so often a simple substitution on a menu really helps open up the options on a menu to us and it’s always disappointing to see a statement that substations aren’t okay (“politely declined” or otherwise) and tends to make us feel a little unwelcome. Though in this particular case it didn’t bother us so much as there are many, many vegetarian and gluten free options on the menu. We had the Grilled Radicchio. If you ever wanted lettuce that sort of gave the satisfying experience of eating steak…then this is for you. Very, very good flavor. I also had the Parsnip soup, a seasonal dish…odd to see a soup listed on the “plates” menu (as opposed to on a small plates or soup/salad menu etc), but this was quite a large serving that on it’s own filled me up and tasted great. We also had the Roasted Turnips (prepared with a Chimichurri and vinegar sauce.) This was served with greens and I’ll be thinking about this savory sauce for years to come. So delicious! My wife ordered the Kabocha Squash Agnolotti, plate for her main. It had lots of flavor…lots of different flavors, and I’m not a big squash fan but I enjoyed tasting it a lot. The rice it was served on top of was also very tasty on its own. With 18 items on their vegetable menu, a separate salad menu, a few pizzas suitable for vegetarians, a few other sides tapas style sides including a cheese plate, olives and beets…plus at least 3 items on the Plates menu suitable for vegetarians, you will have plenty of choices (even without substitutions!) Gjelina is an essential Los Angeles restaurant to try and then think about for days and days.

My son had been here previously and said we needed to go. It was AMAZING!!! The chef/owner has 3 different restaurants and they are all different but yet similar. They are all worth your time. They have good vegan choices too! Your taste buds won't know what happened to them! Go, go, go!!!

Pizza is amazing!! It is expensive, but is worth every single dollar!! I would recommend to have at least one slice!!

Phenomenal, always. My favorite place to get a breakfast sandwich or chia pudding in Venice.

The thing I liked there the most, is the orange iced coffee. It was mind blowing for me. If you like orange chocolate ice cream, then this one is for you! I also tried the bread with salmon and egg which was very good. The tuna melt was disappointing. And it was the waitresses recommendation.. Looks like their pizza is good though.

Divine! Service was quick. We got the onion pizza which seems like an odd flavor but is delightful and packed with flavor!! The margarita pizza was just as you would expect but with a extra hint of oregano. The kale salad is a nice compliment offering a fresh and zesty flavor. The portions are not big and the prices are quite high. Well worth it but something to note

Excellent for vegetarians, especially the many options of pizzas. We ordered the Oaxacan grits, four onion pizza and pomodoro pizza with burrata. The crust is the right mix of chewy and crispy and the toppings are thoughtfully crafted. The outdoor patio seating was perfect for brunch! However the bit about the chefs not making any adjustments to the food is taken too far. We ordered pancakes for our kids, and requested the butter be served on the side as opposed to dumped over the pancake because one of them doesn’t like it, and the chef refused! Even our server was sharing his opinion that this rule is being taken too far. It’s no extra work/effort for the chef to do minor adjustments like this.

LA has many great places to order a tuna melt. Unfortunately, gjelina is not one of them. the tuna was lackluster and the only flavor came from the butter on the bread. I’d stick to ordering pizzas here (the squash blossom is delicious).

We didn’t eat at the restaurant because there was a long line but right next door you can walk in and just order a slice of pizza ! That’s all we wanted to try so ordered a margarita pizza slice .they warmed it up and gave it on a plate pretty quickly.. honestly it was just okay . I’ve had better pizza .. and probably wouldn’t come back for it . It was a little on the pricier side too !

Gjelina will have a wait and the food is worth the wait as it's extremely good. My experience here is what is giving Gjelina a lower review. After waiting for over an hour for a table I was seated with my girlfriend. We ordered our lunch and our menus were taken away and she headed to the restroom. During this time a manager came to me twice to confirm if indeed was seating at this table or if I sat myself. The third time he returned asking me to leave because he confirmed I hadn't been seated at which I refused since the host called my cellphone and walked me to my table. The manager then brought the host over who said she hadn't sat me. I was perplexed as again I was being asked to leave. During this ordeal my girlfriend returned and the host recognized her. Her and her manager proceeded to apologize however the damage was done. We did enjoy our lunch and our food was good. The manager comp'd our entire meal as an apology which was a great method of recovery. Had this not happened I would have given them 1 star however the food was truly great. I think this was a one off moment and based on the managers good faith and constant apologies of how he initially handled the situation I would return and give Gjelina another chance!

It is hard for me to overstate how horribly cooked and bad the meat was for their “wagyu” brisket banh mi. It was 30% gristle and what was meat had been cooked to a wonderful rubber / rock like texture. Comically bad for a $25 sandwich.
