Perfect stay at Venice Beach! We are three guests from Paris, and we stayed at Hotel Erwin for two weeks. The hotel is perfectly located right across from Venice Beach, ideal for biking, skating, or long walks along the ocean. It is a bit far from downtown LA, so Uber or Lyft is essential for getting around. The rooms are very clean and well-maintained daily, with linen and towels changed every day (except Sundays, available on request). The breakfast is generous and high-quality, with eggs, fruit, yogurt, toast, and organic coffee and tea. Everyone at the hotel was absolutely lovely. The girls at breakfast were always friendly, and the reception staff was very welcoming. A special thanks to Noé, who always checked in with us to make sure everything was going well. Only minor downside: the bathroom layout, with the toilet inside the shower, which is not very convenient. But it didn’t take away from our overall experience — we’ll definitely be back!

I accidentally booked the wrong month for our stay at Hotel Erwin, but upon arrival, the staff handled it flawlessly. Adey, the Assistant General Manager, and Brandon at the reception were incredibly helpful and resolved everything without any additional charges. This seamless service made the start of our stay perfect! The room was fantastic, the location unbeatable, and the rooftop bar offers stunning views of the beach. I can't thank the team enough for making our experience so enjoyable. I highly recommend Hotel Erwin—it's truly an amazing place to stay!

Great stay right in the heart of the action! Steps to the beach and plenty to do in the immediate vicinity. Rooms are clean and modern have plenty of character. The staff is amazing--warm, welcoming and Incredibly helpful-- shoutouts to Noe and Frank who made my stay even more amazing. Head up to the roof at sunset to Kassi, incredible food and cocktails. They also have a Pizza Girl at the hotel that's open till 10:00.

Great stay with one of the best included hotel breakfasts I've ever had. If you're planning to spend time in Venice beach, you just can't beat this location. You can walk everywhere. There are lots of eateries and things to do walking distance. The rooftop lounge is stunning and seating space is plentiful. It's the perfect spot to watch the sunset over Venice Beach. The room was well equipped and comfortable. Great stay!

Service at Erwin Hotel is unmatched: from check-in to check-out and in between. Miguel, our concierge, was friendly and helpful. He was always available and happily ready to answer a question. He helped us with our bikes and anything else we needed. The vallet was friendly and happy to bring the car. The desk reservation was friendly checking us in. The breakfast each morning was perfectly prepared. It was included in our stay, but was far better than a standard continental breakfast. We always go out for a large morning starter meal. No need here. The yogurt was homemade delish. The service was great. The room was clean and newly remodeled. The vibe was retro posh. We chose the top floor for the view. We spent mornings on the balcony watching the sunrise and surfers. This room was perfect for us. The rooftop bar, Kassi, provided a 360 view. We enjoyed the sun setting one evening. The food was delicious. We tried the kabobs, carrots, panini and calamari for lunch. The flavors were amazingly delicious. Each dish was paired with a different yogurt sauce. Oh, the views are worth mentioning again. Service was great. Dennis made good recommendations. We highly recommended Hotel Erwin for location, hospitality, flavor, cleanliness, customer service, retro vibe, price and views.

Best hotel on Venice beach! By far! The staff, the beach gear free of charge (pick up early as possible) all you can think of. This hotel is right on the entrance to Venice beach, lest then 3 minutes walk. Very easy to get back and get directly in the shower to wash off all the sand. Highly recommended. Going there for my second time. Great with the Fam and for Couples as well. Has the Kassi rooftop. Only down fall but still deserves the 5 stars is the Elevator, because you have the restaurant at the rooftop there are a lot of people going up and down and not to many elevators.

This is a very nice hotel with easy access to the Venice strip and beach. The hotel offers rentals for bikes and beach accessories. The hotels rooftop Kassi offers great views, however the drinks are highly priced but good. It’s a short walk to plenty of eateries (quick bits and sit down), and about a 40/45 minute walk to the Santa Monica pier with plenty of buses ($1.75) that run to various points in LA. There are also E bikes available for rent at various places near by. Overall, a great location for first time visitors to LA.

Wonderful staff, incredible views, great location. I don’t think it’s mentioned enough in the reviews how LOUD it gets especially Friday and Saturday nights. I suppose it’s a symptom of the location and it’s not the hotel’s fault, but they do have music blasting from the rooftop until past 12am so if you’re staying in a top floor room like I was it’s super loud, and the sounds from the boardwalk are crazy loud too. Even with the doors closed and shades drawn, I needed noise cancelling headphones with white noise in order to sleep. Def not ideal as I was on a business trip and needed sleep. That doesn’t take away from the gorgeous views and wonderful time I had, I just think some people are noise sensitive and should have fair warning.

Hotel Erwin is the perfect Venice Beach getaway. The views from the balconies are absolutely beautiful — you get an amazing look at the ocean, the boardwalk, and all the energy that makes Venice so unique. Waking up and stepping out onto the balcony to see the waves and hear the buzz of the boardwalk was a highlight of my stay. The customer service is excellent — friendly, welcoming, and always ready to help with anything you need. The whole vibe of the hotel is relaxed and beachy, exactly what you’d hope for when staying by the coast. You’re literally steps away from the beach, the boardwalk, and all the shops, skaters, bikers, and colorful energy that make Venice so iconic. And if you want a quieter stroll, just cross the street and you're at the Venice Canals — it’s the best of both worlds. Whether you’re looking to chill by the beach or soak in the Venice scene, Hotel Erwin puts you right in the center of it all. Loved my time there!

Breathtaking view on Venice beach, nice rooms, nice rooftop bar, exceeds the US hotel standard. They also have promotions for surf boards and skateboards and offer free bikes.

Noe is the type of person you want to work with when dealing with hotels! My wife had a last second major event we had to attend and out of all hotels Erwin was the only one that gave me a chance to check in really early! We had to be at the event by 2pm we arrived at 11 am we paid a fee and got in thanks to noe! We got the 6th floor which gave us some great views our own private balcony as well. They have won our business over! Also have a rooftop bar/restaurant which is dope! Right off the beach it’s perfect!

Had an amazing experience at Erwin. Staff is beyond friendly and are always available to help. Breakfast in the morning is perfect as a way to start your day. The location offers such a quick trip to the beach and they provide beach towels for you, which is a bonus. The High bar on the roof top is unbeatable 💯 The overall experience is absolutely wonderful and would visit them again!!

Had the best experience! The staff were incredible! We absolutely loved our stay. The property has a ton of personality and charm, and the location is unbeatable - it’s literately located in the hart of Venice Beach. The room was super fun and my kids loved the games that were provided in the room (can’t remember the games but it was great for a family of five). Our view was breathtaking as it provided a panorama view of the Pacific Palisades and Venice Beach. My only suggestion is if you’re looking for a good night’s request to stay on the SOUTH side of the hotel. We stayed over a weekend and it’s a total Hollywood club scene on the north side of the hotel as it butts against a bar. There is one particular staff member I must applaud, which is Adey! Adey went above and beyond to ensure our stay was impeccable. His restaurant and activity recommendations were spot on! On top of that, he gave our kids the coolest trinkets and shades to play and wear at the beach. Thanks Hotel Erwin for a great stay! We can’t wait to visit again!!!

This is the best hotel I’ve ever been at, everything was fantastic the staff was super kind and helpful. The room was really big at a great price and the view was Venice beach and overall I had a super great time at this hotel. Τhe breakfast was excellent and plenty of choices the hotel seems small but it’s giant it also has a roof garden that I preferred to go in the sunset also it has food and drinks there. The overall experience was fantastic. I personally want to thank my friend Frank because I broke my ankle and couldn’t arrive the correct date so I went a week later, I thought that because of the accident we would be in a not good room but every room was fantastic and also he put us in a better room than the planned one that had better view. Frank thank you, I’ll come back in with the first opportunity that I get. Marinos

We have stayed here twice now. The staff is always friendly and if there are any issues, they try to resolve them as soon as possible. The air conditioner was not working in our room. They sent someone up immediately and he fixed it. My husband and I highly recommend Hotel Erwin. They now have free breakfast, which they did not have two years ago when we stayed. Stacy in the downstairs cafe, is super friendly and down to earth.

Best spot possible in Venice Beach, NICE rooftop bar. If you want a more silent room you can ask, it then you’ll miss the view from your balcony. So yeah, make a choice because the roof does get noisy, (also during the day) However we were there for fun, and it was a great experience. Amazing views. Great restaurants nearby

Khody, Jessica and Frank, no review will cover how grateful i was for your over the top service. You made one of the most important weekends of my life that much more special. My husband surprised me with a trip to Venice beach to celebrate my college graduation and we picked the Erwin Hotel right by the water. I had the best time I enjoyed some delicious drinks at the rooftop and got a nice little buzz to start off my night. I want to give a special shout out to Frank and Miguel for their great hospitality and conversation. It’s things like great customer service and wonderful memories that make a stay. Thank you for gifting me both. We definitely will be here again to make many more memories and enjoy the beautiful art and the wonderful people of this hotel. Thank you.

I loved my stay at Hotel Erwin. The location couldn’t be better, right in the heart of Venice Beach and just steps from the boardwalk. The rooftop view at sunset was incredible, and the vibe of the place really matched the neighborhood, fun, relaxed. The staff was super friendly and made the whole experience easy. Definitely a spot I’d come back to.

Just returned from a wonderful stay at Hotel Erwin in Venice. After an exhausting flight from Mauritius, I was greeted by Frank and Miguel at the front desk who went above and beyond to make my arrival smooth and comfortable. Throughout my stay, Frank also provided exceptional service with his friendly demeanor and helpful recommendations. Both Frank and Miguel’s genuine kindness and attention to detail immediately set the tone for my entire stay. The hotel’s beachfront location is unbeatable, with stunning ocean views and easy access to the Venice Boardwalk. The room was modern and well-appointed, perfect for unwinding after a long travel day. But what truly made my experience special was the exceptional hospitality - the warm welcome from Frank and Miguel reminded me why great service makes all the difference. Highly recommend Hotel Erwin for anyone visiting Venice Beach. Thank you, Frank and Miguel, for making a tired solo traveler feel so welcomed! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Just had a fantastic few days at Hotel Erwin on Venice beach. We met Frank as we checked in and he went out of his way to settle us into the hotel and provided a free suite upgrade into the bargain, with views over Venice beach, outstanding! Everyone we have met here has been super professional and helpful, come and pay a visit, you'll have an amazing time. Our extra special thanks to Frank though, who made the end of our holiday really memorable and incredible. Thanks Frank you're a superstar 😊 John & Anne Radford

Rooms are well appointed. Location is perfect if you’re looking to explore Venice Beach. Lots of bars and restaurants within walking distance. Venice boardwalk and beach just steps from the hotel. Venice canals also walking distance. Breakfast in the morning and a rooftop bar that gets kicking at night. Friendly service from the staff. Valet parking on site. Offers bikes, beach chairs, etc. mini bar and snacks in room. Pizza Girl just out the front door if you need a late night fix. Jim Morrison mural and muscle beach close by. The Sidewalk Cafe and Small World Books also very close and worth your time.

The hotel boasts a prime location, with comfortable rooms and excellent staff. However, guests should be aware there's only one elevator, which can lead to a wait. Additionally, the area outside can be quite noisy late into the night, often until 2 or 3 AM.

This is a nice-ish, but quirky hotel right on the beach in Venice. You can’t beat the spot. A few perks: the rooftop bar and sunset is just perfection. The rooms are clean and shower had good water pressure. Drawbacks: I needed a freezer for medical supplies- they not only did not have one, but front desk staff were pretty rude about my needing one. Drawbacks on location: I went for a walk one morning and it felt relatively unsafe with intoxicated or people who were unhoused who were using substances. Kind of a bummer since it was such a pretty day.

I may even come back. But you need to be aware when booking this hotel about fey key things: view to ocean is ok but if you look down you see parking, roofs, unpleasant yards with trash bins which smells. Not so perfect. Loud music from nearby club may make it difficult to sleep on Friday night if you are not tired to death or a bit drunk. The higher you are the better - I was on 4th floor which is so so. Definitely would not reco 3rd one , probably 5th and especially 6th are much better. The rest is ok. Super location close to the beach, good breakfast , fantastic roof bar views. Room itself is ok - quite spacious and bed is comfortable.

The hotel is of a good standard, nothing overly special about the rooms but not a bad place neither. For an adult family sharing a room the bathroom wasn’t overly private so that is something to keep in mind if you are travelling with someone you don’t know that well. The staff are all very friendly and approachable. The house keeping lady although she couldn’t speak a lot of English she did an amazing job keeping the room clean and she actually used chemicals to clean with which is better than you see in some better known hotels especially back home in Australia! The real gem of this place is having a rooftop bar that no other hotel seems to have in the area. The only negative is the area it is in, during the day it felt fine but at night it didn’t feel overly safe.

K
Katie Vinther

Pros & Cons Pros- the hotel is nice, the staff is nice the room was comfortable, a short walk to the beach & boardwalk. Beautiful sunset! Cons- the boardwalk is super loud at night and it's very hard to get any sleep. There is a parking lot right behind the beach view rooms and people park there to party. I wouldn't stay in an ocean view room again.

I am mainly writing this review to thank a breakfast server (Maleek)! This was our first time traveling as new parents with a young infant. Every morning Maleek was so friendly to us, making sure we had a table, very attentive when needed and overall just a very friendly and helpful person! Thank you so much Maleek! Your phenomenal service made our trip that much better! Since I am writing this review I wanted to add on some information about our experience with the room. We were on the 6th floor labeled as “epic view”. It did have an epic view but also came with an epic amount of bass from the rooftop speakers at night. The hotel staff we were checking in with knew that we had a very young child with us. It would have been helpful to be warned that we would be listening to heavy bass till the DJ was done every night. The noises from the street were nothing compared to the bass up top. A little warning next time would have been helpful as we may have asked for a less epic view for a quieter room.

I wished I read the reviews here before I book, so here you go another review. Noise! Noise! If you stay on the north side of the property, that’s facing all the bars and restaurants, which blasted their music until 1:30 AM. After all the reviews, the hotel has not learned to put noise isolating glass screen doors. You can call 877-ASK-LAPD to complain the noise. For your entertainment, the video is taking with the screen door shut. can you tell whose song is playing? Other than that…is it worth $300 to get a room with a view of the trash dumpsters in front of the balcony? Or that slight sewer smell in the room? They are charging what they can simply because there aren’t many great options in Venice Beach. The noise isn’t really the hotel’s fault. But they are getting 3 stars because there were been so many reviews on this, and their response is always oh thank you blah blah blah and we will look into it.

N
Nyle Ahmed

Yeah right by the beach, which is great. Call me a spoiled but rooms are definitely small considering the prices. Lobby is small and only 1 elevator. But you could look away from the complaints if THERE WAS NO ROOF TOP LOUNGE. My main complaint is that being a guest here. Because of this rooftop lounge my complaints stands. Being a guests and having constant drunk people going in and out of the hotel is not something I’d want for my old mom to be exposed too. Coming in from dc . We should’ve looked at more review before booking this. Granted my and my brothers fault on that. Maybe the hotel should consider an alternative too this roof top lounge, maybe make it restaurant only so that you ain’t got college kids coming in and out get blasted.

I stayed as a guest. Very welcome front desk staff and the hotel gives a nice vibe. Perfect for summer. But I wouldn't say the same for the server in the breakfast area. I went there early for coffee and there was this blonde lady who was putting her veneers in. Yuck. You can go to the restroom for that. Not around food. Later, me and my friend went there to eat and she wouldn't stop talking to us. About random things like her family and asking us questions. We just wanted to relax. The rooftop is decent, we enjoyed the sunset but the food was mediocre. Just teach your servers about hygiene. I don't want to imagine what else is going on there.

Y
Yomna Eldawy

I usually find it difficult to leave a negative review, especially when the hotel staff are genuinely respectful, polite, and flexible. I truly appreciate how accommodating they were, they allowed me to check out early and only charged me for the nights I stayed, which I’m grateful for. Thankfully, they showed mercy and allowed me an early release. Felt like a reduced sentence! That being said, I want to share my personal experience honestly. While I understand that the surrounding area is beyond the hotel’s control, I personally found the neighborhood to be quite unsafe and not comfortable to walk around. The room was advertised as having a “city view,” but unfortunately, it overlooked a very narrow alley filled with trash — not an exaggeration. There was also an unpleasant smell throughout the floor I was on, but I wouldn’t describe the hotel as dirty. In the end, I don’t believe the hotel was worth the high price. If it had been more affordable, I could have understood some of these issues. But considering the cost, the experience did not meet my expectations.

J
Juan P. Olyslager

Good location. Noisy area. The rooms are just ok. Friendly staff. Be warned that this hotel charges a “resort fee” of $40 daily (I booked via Expedia, and this charge is separate, and it’s included in fine print which I did not see. This is not transparent) This is a ripoff, I have stayed in many hotels around the world and this is a first. It’s not about the money, it’s the concept. Will not come back, EVER AGAIN.

Two French brothers on a three-week journey across the United States an incredible country with amazing people. Unfortunately, this hotel was a huge disappointment. Our room had a strong smell of humidity, making the stay very uncomfortable. Upon arrival, we clearly refused the so-called “mandatory” extra fees. Despite this, they charged us $120 at checkout, with no possibility of discussion. The staff was rude, arrogant, completely unwilling to talk, with a mocking attitude. A shocking experience, especially after witnessing the outstanding hospitality in so many other hotels across the US. A disgrace. Beware: this place abuses your trust. First and last time.

J
Jen Lindsay

"I was very disappointed with my stay at this hotel. The cleanliness of the property was not acceptable—the area around the hotel felt unkept, and unfortunately, I even found a cockroach in my room. This made me very uncomfortable and left a poor impression of the overall hygiene standards. Bums, and dirty alley right beside hotel. The staff was polite, but management really needs to address the cleanliness and pest control issues to provide guests with a safe and welcoming environment. Until these concerns are resolved, I cannot recommend staying here."

the room and view and whole hotel in it self was a good experience. the rooms was clean, the view was beautiful and the roof top bar was cool. the issue is the customer service! First day we had room service come while we was gone I had some Prada shades come up missing. when i told the front desk he acted like i was lien saying “they don’t have anyone that steals that works there but he will ask them if they got my glasses” why would someone steal let you know they stole? never heard anything about my glasses that i spent over $500 for. they left the case but took the classes and so we stopped room service. We stayed from Sunday to Wednesday. When my husband checked in the girl was really nice and told us it was only $100 deposit we didn’t think anything about they. Tuesday night (after being there since Sunday) around 8:00-8:30pm Frank shows up at our room door while we are headed out for my husbands bday and got reservations for the restaurant up stairs. he stops us and clearly we are rushing out because it’s his bday that was the point of the trip and demands more money. the room was paid for but they charge $150 a night and wants $450 right then or we can’t stay. we was leaving in the morning so why do we need $150 a day if we are almost done with our stay and yall didn’t get it to start with. it’s our last night. so we told him we don’t have that much to be held on the card because we thought everything was okay and we will have to go upload it but it’s 8:30 at night and nowhere to do it. he says he wants to come look in our room and he will drop it down to $20. we let him come look in the room he clears and see we haven’t used anything and tells us to meet him down stairs. i rush to the restaurant for our seats and my husband goes and handled it he says he said $200. he directly told us $20 bc we showed him on that one card what was left in the bank and that’s all we had until someone opens bc again it’s night time. he gets angry with us and told us he will take cash and take $200 or basically we have to leave and no refund. we gave him the $200 cash the money wasn’t the issue it was the timing. the next morning we went to get the money back and we told them we will be leaving around 6:30, the guy tells us we have to wait til frank comes in. i told him we don’t got time by the time we ended up with our money back we was rushing to the airport ended up being late and missing our flight and having to pay $400 more over something that could one been handled on our first night there. ruined my husband birthday. we told our self on day one this will be our new place since we are trying to visit every few months but after this and how we was treated we won’t be back and i don’t recommend

Be really careful with charges! Hotel staff were lovely and room was nice. However my daughter and I stayed here and parked our car here for one night. Arrived back in UK and found. I had a second charge of $484 which I had not been made aware of or gave permission for them to take. Found out after many emails this was for parking for the whole of our 10 day stay - I only hired a car for 5 days!!! Finally got my money back and finally an apology and an explanation but no compensation for the trouble they had caused me. Will NOT recommend this hotel.

I deliver product for the bar on a weekly basis. Every week I spend 10-15 minutes wandering around the garage area trying to find the one person that's qualified to sign off on the delivery, which generally involves getting told off by the rude maintenance and cleaning staff when I ask them to point me in the right direction. This could be easily solved by simply installing a doorbell like every other place I deliver to.

T
Trevor

STAY AWAY - easy 1 star. They are sheisty. The parking rate is above every comparable place to stay, the resort fee is pointless (common these days) and the area is severely down hill from prior years. If you are deciding between this and another place, the other place is highly likely the choice to pick

I’m extremely disappointed with my experience at Hotel Irwin. When I booked my stay, the top Google search result looked exactly like Hotel Irwin’s official website — but it turned out to be a third-party booking site. The way the site is presented makes it very easy to believe you’re booking directly with the hotel. When I later needed to update my reservation, the staff were not just unhelpful — they were shockingly rude. Instead of offering any empathy or understanding, they told me that if I had booked directly with them, they “could normally help,” but since it was a third-party reservation, their “hands were tied.” Then they added, “You need to read next time,” in a tone that was blatantly demeaning. It wasn’t said as helpful advice; it was said to make me feel stupid, and it absolutely did. The lack of professionalism and basic courtesy was astonishing. What concerns me even more is that Hotel Irwin appears to allow their third-party affiliates to present themselves online in a way that looks like the hotel’s official site. The hotel still benefits financially from these bookings, yet refuses to take responsibility or assist guests who are understandably misled by this setup. Between the misleading online experience and the condescending, gaslighting behavior from the staff, I left feeling extremely unhappy with my stay. I will not be returning to Hotel Irwin, and I cannot recommend it. Guests deserve honesty, clarity, and respect — none of which I received here.

We stayed at Hotel Erwin for 3 nights and were extremely disappointed — especially for a hotel that markets itself as 4-star and charges luxury pricing. Major issues: • Resort fee wasn’t charged at booking and was confusingly deducted from the deposit at check-in. Feels intentionally opaque. • $50/day pet fee is extremely high, and unlike the room & parking, it wasn’t eligible for the CA resident discount. • Room quality was poor: – Sofa bed was extremely squeaky and worn down — not sleepable quality for this price point – Coffee machine didn’t work and was never fixed despite multiple requests – Bathroom doors had no working locks — very basic privacy feature missing • Breakfast was disappointing: sticky pancakes, limited options, and website photos of avocado toast/latte drinks felt misleading because they weren't available unless paid extra. • Gym experience was misleading: hotel still advertises free passes to a local gym but the partner gym no longer honors them. On-site “gym” is tiny and feels like an afterthought in the parking garage — worse than many budget hotels. • Overall experience felt nowhere near 4-star. Venice Beach has its own vibe, but the hotel doesn’t match the price point in comfort, amenities, or service. Soundproofing is poor and the stay didn’t feel premium in any aspect besides the beach view. I contacted the hotel directly with this feedback before posting publicly and never received a response. Very disappointing stay — would not return.
