The service was amazing, the guy that sited us was very kind, funny and he explained us everything we asked about. Even tho the food looks simple on plate, but it was incredibly tasty including white wine. Very satisfied with place. Definitely we are coming back again.
Very good food and very good prices . Friendly and courteous staff . There are no reservations so recommend getting there at opening which is currently 19.30 . The farinata is excellent.
You know it should be good when people are queuing outside and almost block the whole street. We were not disappointed with the authentic kitchen, fast service, great and fresh flavors. Some sound dampening materials would be nice to reduce the reverb in the room, but that didn’t spoil our dinner. It’s not the chill dinner you’re used to when dining out, but it’s an experience I would highly recommend.
I think it’s #1 restaurant in Sestri. True Italian ambience 🎶 food is simple and delicious, feels like grandmothers kitchen. L O V E
No reservations, just walk-in. They open at 19:30, and we arrived at 19:10 and there was already a short que. Very tasty food, reasonable prices. We got 5 dished in total for the 2 of us. But 4 would have been enough.
We had a wonderful experience at Osteria Mattana! Tucked away in the charming streets of Sestri Levante, this cozy spot offers a perfect mix of relaxed ambiance and truly delicious food. Every dish we ordered was fresh and full of flavor — you can tell the ingredients are local and carefully selected. The seafood, in particular, was outstanding. We enjoyed the food so much that we ended up going twice during my stay — it was that good. The staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive despite managing so many customers and they made us feel right at home. Whether you’re visiting Sestri Levante for the first time or returning, Osteria Mattana is a must-visit. I’ll definitely be coming back next time I’m in town!
Definitely worth getting here for opening time at 7:30, the place filled up in minutes and had a large queue outside when we left. We each had seafood pasta dishes! one with octopus and one with clams and mussels. Both had great flavour. Good value too.
Just an all-round great place, and a little different than the other places around it in Sestri. Even the vegetarian dish was great (though it would be good to have more choice for veggies!). The long tables create their own atmosphere, and you find yourself talking to your neighbours and swapping ideas on what to order.
A lovely authentic dinner, we especially loved the vibe. However, dinner was slightly rushed (probably due to its popularity). Highly recommend regardless!
Excellent traditional osteria with variety of first and second plates. The pastas are great, especially a la brezza. With clams and mussels. Grilled fish is fire grilled. Really delicious! No reservations.
We loved the whole concept of this restaurant. The food was fresh, tasty, simple but authentic. Service was excellent, wine was great. We would 100% return and definitely recommend ❤️
All hail Mattana! If you want to experience the greatness of Italian cuisine, this is the place. Few ingredients formed to great dishes. Have the farinata as a starter, it’s typical and the best I‘ve ever had. We went there one evening, and had to come back the next. It was too good to skip. The staff owning & leading the restaurant are super friendly. Hope to be back one day!
I feel most at home drinking cheap wine with robust Italians. And this is the spot. While wondrously affordable, my wallet groaned as my growing gut dragged me here night after night. Exchanging the same sleazy smile with the grill man over the quality of my company. I left each night with a sense of fulfilment, sagging over my belt in gluttonous glory, slurring my satisfactions to my exasperated companions. I will chase this feeling until my legs collapse under my weight and my liver gives up. Excess is success.
This osteria serves authentic regional food, using only high quality ingredients. I highly recommend the farinata and the grilled fish, both very tasty. You can’t make a reservation so there might be a bit of a queue but it is definitely worth the wait. You will be seated at the table with other people which adds to the authentic experience.
The food is amazing and delicious, the atmosphere and staff authentic and real. This is Italy! Great experience, we came here twice and look forward to return soon.
We had first plates, then ordered second plates, then ordered dessert, book in advance otherwise you will have to wait in line and the queues can be very long, food will not disappoint you.

Absolutely delicious food in a cozy space, and at a great price! Wonderful service - everyone was so warm and welcoming. The food was divine, and this was truly a highlight of our visit to Italy (and much better than any of the restaurants we visited in nearby Cinque Terre). If you have a chance to come here, do it!
So delicious!!! For the starter of grilled paper and eggplant, which is very local; the outopus with pasta that we never had before, the pasta is perfect cooked and the octopus sause is not easy to find in other restaurant; for the grilled Sea brass, the fish is fresh and grilled just fine, and we have the super 🍫 cake at the end!! Highly recommemded, must try this restaurant when you go there!!

Outstanding food for solid prices, ordering the rabbit is a good choice if you're visiting. The service had a small error, the plates of 3 members of our 6 person table came out about 15-20 minutes after the rest of the plates. The restaurant was neat and felt homey, keep in mind that if you get sat in the back side of the restaurant it gets excessively hot, I had to step out during dinner
