Running—slash walking—slash crawling was how it started, which already tells you more about our physical fitness than you probably wanted to know. This was the prelude to dinner at First Mile, a restaurant that sounds like an athletic event but, thankfully, involves chairs. Of course, this wasn’t just about food. It never is. People say “it’s about connection” or “shared experience,” which is a polite way of saying “we’re hoping the person next to us doesn’t turn out to be unbearable.” Somewhere between collecting ingredients, grinding, mashing, and pretending to know what we were doing, we started to form… something. Bonds, maybe. Or at least a mutual respect for whoever brought wet wipes. We all have stories, and the stories, if you let them, start telling their own stories—usually louder than you’d like. But when food starts talking, you have to listen. That’s the rule. Normally, I wouldn’t order something as dramatic as a tomahawk steak. The name alone sounds like it should come with a waiver. I’m more of a white meat person myself—something you can cut with the side of a fork, preferably while making polite conversation about how “tender” it is. But when a slab of beef the size of a toddler lands on your plate, there’s a kind of social contract at play. You take a bite. And if it makes you feel something—anything—or even roll your eyes a little, that’s when you know. You know you’re either having a moment of culinary transcendence or heartburn’s gentle prelude. Possibly both. At some point during dinner, the food stopped trying to be the star of the evening and graciously let everyone else have a turn. It’s nice when that happens—when people, not plates, start taking up the light. I’ve always loved smiles, some more than others. They shift, they surprise you, and sometimes, if you’re lucky, they grow into laughter—the unfiltered kind that makes you forget what you were pretending to be serious about. The gnocchi itself wasn’t remarkable—solid, unthreatening, the kind of dish that minds its own business. But food has this uncanny emotional authority: more persuasive than family, less judgmental than therapy. I was reminded of that when a single bite triggered a full-scale revolt in my nervous system. No drama in the taste, just drama in me. I stopped caring about the food and focused instead on the smiles, the laughter—some more genuine than others. But there was one laugh in particular that caught not just my attention, it stayed with me . It was the kind of sound that makes the room pause, as if even the ceiling fan agreed we should all take a moment. I just stood there, listening to the smile behind it. And in the end, I didn’t leave with a full belly; I left with a memory I’ll be chewing on far longer anyway.
Had an AMAZING evening wrapping up after the Autumn & Art 2025! Had a "Coal'd Fashioned", a Pomegranate Mule, and the Halibut & risotto. Our waitress (Delilah) was amazing, explained everything to us, and made sure that the dish was split for my wife and myself. Cannot recommend higher!!!!
Everything I ordered was delicious and cooked perfectly, to where I returned for dinner the next day with the same results. Would definitely recommend! Had the deviled eggs, short rib, halibut, meatballs, lemon and chocolate desserts.
First experience with the Tomahawk ribeye. Oh. My. Days. Fam, this place has a very casual and comfortable vibe but the food and drink is top notch. Big shoutout to the whole crew including Joe the GM who continually checked on our table to make sure we were enjoying our experience. Pro tip….don’t sleep on the Woodford compound butter for your steak. Ho. Ly. Smokes. Will be back!!!
The brunch potatoes are awesome. I had the eggs Benedict with the Pom Pom drink. Everything was well prepared and phenomenal service
What a lovely experience. I loved the atmostphere, the servers were really friendly, and the food (of course) was delicious. The place really welcomes you in with a look of warm wood finishes, and you're greeded at the door by a couple of hosts. My server was super nice, and helped me out quite a bit. I got the watermelon feta salad, a couple of meatballs, and the burrata. I think the star was the salad, but everything was good.
I fell in love! I came in for brunch and the brunch is amazing. First mile pancakes are must try! There is a bar and comfy seating. I had a great experience and the food was delicious. The owners wife was also very friendly and helpful. She gave us some information about the restaurant that we wanted to know. Overall I’d definitely recommend giving this restaurant a visit!
This morning I was deciding where I could go to brunch by myself, and it not be so packed when I got there. The decision was made to try First Mile Kitchen. This is my initial visit here, and brunch was probably something I should have done on my next visit. Anyway, everything was pretty good for what it was. The Carnitas had a really good flavor, with almost like a hint of sweet BBQ sauce. The onions were pickled perfectly with a sweetness to them and the vinegar wasn't over powering. The avocado and tomato is exactly what they are, avocados and tomatoes. Nothing special. At least they were fresh. The FMK hot sauce sprinkled on this dish really wasn't spicy at all, and I could barely taste it. All in all, everything was good, just not great. Reminds me why I like Homegrown so much. I do want to come visit First Mile Kitchen some other time, just hopefully when they're serving dinner. Stopped by First Mile Kitchen for lunch today. Last time I was here, was for brunch. It was good, but I really wasn't impressed, so I figured I'd give them another try. I ended up ordering the Sweet Chili Chicken Sandwich. It was beyond my expectations. The actual chicken on it was hand battered and literally a chunk of chicken breast. I especially liked the sweet chili sauce. It had that right amount of kick and was packed with flavor. The pickled onions were just the icing on the cake. And of course it came with homemade chips that I'm a sucker for. My new favorite place for lunch is you guessed it, First Mile Kitchen. The sandwiches on the menu are first class, and average about $15. Today I ordered the Chicken Bacon Club. The chicken was grilled, which is fine but I kinda thought that if it was fried, it would have made the sandwich a ton better. Not saying it was bad or anything, it was actually pretty darn delicious. The bread was toasted and lightly buttered which was perfect in my opinion. Bacon had the perfect crispness to it, and the mayo kinda had a little Dijon flavor to it. All in all, I really enjoyed this sandwich, and look forward to trying more items on their lunch menu. Another visit to First Mile Kitchen for lunch. It was my significant others first time visiting. She really enjoyed the environment and thought the establishment was on the classy side. That's something I totally agree with. We ended up splitting a French Dip. Bread was made by them like always, roast beef wasn't extravagant but still was good enough for my taste buds. The dijonaise was special. I'm not a mustard fan but this was definitely something to write home about. The Truffle Fries were basic and I wasn't really impressed. But I did enjoy dipping them in the Au jus.
Nice place to go and the food was good. I would oy make one change to my order. I got what I think was called brunch burger. It was really good except the biscuit bun was not my favorit I want to go back and get it on an original bun. I am.not a biscuit guy though so keep that in mind for a biscuit person it would have been perfect. I knew that but wanted to try it as it came the first time.
What a fantastic find while traveling through Kansas! My group of four selected this place for dinner and it did not disappoint! The atmosphere was great, service was awesome! Took a few minutes to decide on the appetizers. We chose the Deviled Eggs & the Ploughman’s Plate. Only to find out they couldn’t fulfill the Ploughman’s Plate 🙁. That’s when one of the group selected the Bone Marrow. That was a first for me to try out but really it was quite tasty. Everyone had a different taste in mind for dinner, Meat Loaf, Steak, Salmon and my choice of Lobster Spaghetti. Everyone was totally satisfied with their selection! We passed on dessert since the group had something else in mind. Whether you live in Wichita or just passing through this was a great option for dinner!
We came for a late Sunday brunch & the staff & kitchen were so accommodating. The food was amazing & the service Anna gave us was perfection! Thank you. Go check them out!
We enjoyed our meal. The dining room was very loud, but we got used it quickly. Our server was exceptional, and the food was really good. Son had a pasta dish with chicken that he LOVED. I had the lobster deviled eggs. Also very good. My Non-alc lemon and lavender cocktail was yummy. We shared the avocado chocolate mousse for dessert and found it very rich and sweet. I do not know how one person could finish it! One snag: I ordered decaf and was asked if I wanted cream, which I did. I was not asked if I wanted sweetener, and none was brought. I asked a server (not ours) for sugar, and he never brought it, which was very odd given the level of service throughout our meal. I ended up going to the bar and getting a small glass of sugar cubes. Our server explained that the gentleman I asked is easily distracted. Hm. Regardless, it was a really good meal.
I have had dinner and many lunches and it’s always an amazing experience!! Food. Atmosphere. Service. All of it. Pictured are the “You’re So Grain Bowl” and pistachio rose blossom danish I enjoyed for lunch. Both were to die for!! I also had a yummy Iced White Chocolate Oat Milk Latte (suggested by the bartender) but didn’t snap a pic because it was too good to wait. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone in town, and especially those traveling through to show off what Wichita has to offer.
Hands down, the most unique cuisine I've experienced in a long time! The food was world class, the drinks very refreshing, and the atmosphere very warm and inviting. I can't wait to come back here for our next night out, also the menu is very reasonable for the quality put into each dish! Come check this place out when you're in Wichita!!
Found this restaurant while staying in Wichita and so glad we did! Service, food, and atmosphere were all great! We ordered the first mile pancakes and the bacon egg biscuit. The pancakes were divine! While I really liked the biscuit, I thought it could use an improvement. We both thought that all ingredients together made it a bit dry and it would have benefitted from some kind of sauce or honey. While it says it has honey, you couldn’t taste it or see it, so it wasn’t enough. I would suggest ordering a side of honey for it. I even thought a honey chipotle sauce might be tasty. Either way, we would order both again! Give this place a shot if you’re in the area!
Delicious food with a comfy atmosphere. We met a couple of friends here for dinner. Service was excellent! The food was good. I say this because for the prices it wasn’t anything spectacular. Don’t get me wrong again the food was very tasty and cooked to our liking. However, I had a Ribeye steak. Again well seasoned, perfectly cooked to medium like I asked. But I have had the same quality steak at Longhorn Steakhouse for a lot less than 52.00 I still recommend this place! Like I said the food was delicious, the drinks were well prepared the service was prompt and friendly. All in all it was a great dining experience. If you do choose to dine here I will say it is on the expensive side of things.
I have been to first mile twice already and it’s a great place to enjoy a cold drink in a frozen glass and great steak! Pictured here is there thanksgiving spread which was great! Second time in my entire life that I got the pleasure of eating Turkey that wasn’t dry. This one of the few places in Wichita you can enjoy food where the kitchen isn’t afraid to try new things.
Food was hot, nicely seasoned, and delicious. We ordered the chimichanga, avaocado toast, and wake and break. We both enjoyed our food immensely. Laken was our server. Laken did absolutely amazing. Caring, knowledgeable, and just the sweetest server ever. Laken made sure our drinks stayed full, that our food was to our liking, and has a wonderful personality. The atmosphere was bright, friendly, and the music was just right were we didn't have to speak loudly and when we wanted to hear the music we could. Great choices in music. I've been here multiple times, but this was my daughter's first time. We will definitely be back.
2 Reviews. 1. Brunch was great. Menus has some great selections. I went for the Tartine which is basically an open faced sandwich with fried egg cream cheese chili crunch which is very good. The Sammy looked good too. 2. Dinner! Wow so good. Could not wait to try the Bone Barrow. Kinda scary with the bone but so good with crispy bread. Deep rich taste then topped with a cherry like sauce. I had the Pappardelle with lamb. Lots of pieces of braised lamb in a rich sauce of olives cheese, rosemary, spinach and fennel. I ate it all. The dessert, Monte Blank Tart had chestnut filling, charred pear brandy compote, mascarpone cream, cocoa meringue, looked like meat at first lol but very creative presentation.
I don't know how I haven't been here before this place is fantastic. The oysters were big and fresh. I got the lobster spaghetti with added scallops, and it was fantastic, and they put plenty of meat in it. The vibe is also killer with them cooking the steaks where you can watch the only thing I found odd was the way they served the caviar other than that 5/5 all the way... also, our sever was great.
The food was impeccable! The oysters were extremely fresh and interesting flavor combinations without being unnecessarily complex. The house hot sauce was a game changer--it came with the oysters and I kept it on the table for the rest of the meal. The restaurant manager waited on me while my waiter was tied up, and the service was still seamless. Top notch!
Excellent food and service. One of the best dinners I have had in Wichita. Loved it Scallop was super fresh and great wine. Best none alcoholic lavender and lime 👌
We have had brunch, but first time to have dinner here. Food was delicious and the atmosphere was relaxing and perfect for a night out. Our food was slow to come out but we didn't mind, everything was so nice, but our server insisted on giving us free dessert.
Our first visit to First Mile Kitchen did not disappoint. Their menu rotates through the seasons, so what you see online may not be totally accurate. Everything we ordered was delicious! We had never tried bone marrow before, and our waitress-Lauren - was very helpful in our decision making. We were glad we tried it!
I loved this restaurant because the food was delicious, the atmosphere was so cool and different from anything we have in Wichita, and lastly they cook with food from here. I ordered the fried sweet potato and the bone marrow for an appetizer to share with some friends and I loved them both. The fried sweet potato was a smoked beet labneh, radish toum served with house made crackers. The bone marrow was a little on the spicy side for me because it was rubbed with a garlic chili crunch. The flavor of the bone marrow was delicious served with bread also. They recommend you eat family style so I shared the seared salmon. The color of the salmon was perfect. The perfect bite was small piece of salmon, cherry tomato, spinach.
First Mile is one of our favorite places to dine in Wichita! They provide the highest quality food, with incredible service and passion that is hard to miss. We’ve attended our second wine dinner at First Mile, and we cannot recommend highly enough. Chef Nick Korbee and team are masters of their crafts. First Mile Kitchen is well worth the visit in Wichita, Kansas!
So blown away by this place. Amazing drinks. ( we got the mimosa party) fresh squeezed juice. We came for bunch. I ordered the chicken Caesar salad, my boyfriend ordered the biscuits and gravy. Soooo good. Our server was great. He was also training a new server. Also a nice kid. This was our first time here ( came from cheney) we will definitely be back!
Definitely one of our favorite stops. The food is incredible and the environment is friendly and accommodating.
The Eggs Benedict was absolutely amazing! We went just after opening and were seated right away. Food was delicious, service was phenomenal and atmosphere was really cozy.
Yesterday evening a friend and I had dinner at First Mile Kitchen my favorite restaurant in Wichita. I ordered the potato Ganache,we observed the chef, Nick and his wife, Amanda sharing the dish and it looked beautiful. It was not only beautiful but was fabulously delicious. I know a little hyperbolic, but I can’t think of another two adjectives. Form a dish that is normally a little flat this was lick the plate delicious. You’ve done it once again chef Nick, turned the so-so into spectacular. Thank you DP
Wow, this is an amazing restaurant! We have been here for brunch, lunch and dinner and all are amazing. The pancakes are oh so yummy and slightly crispy outside and soft and airy inside. The Thanksgiving meal is top notch although I wish they changed up the menu a bit more for this holiday meal.
Olivia’s tequila manhattan was one of THE BEST cocktails I have ever had. Her smile, her knowledge and her vibes are worthy of 10,000 stars but I can only leave 5. Thanks Olivia we will be back!
The salmon and pork were perfectly cooked. The wine selection is great. The mousse and sorbet were delicious. The spicey salmon and oysters were delicious appetizers. The service was fantastic. The mashed potatoes with the pork tasted boxed, but the mashed potatoes with the seared salmon were good.
Food was good. Service wasn't horrible, but it wasn't good either. Took some time to get food and drinks ordered and delivered. Prices for food make absolutely no sense at all. Portion size for more expensive meals ended up being much smaller than cheaper options. And I'm talking about brunch options. Pretty much the same ingredients. So don't order the big buckaroo. What a waste of money for what you get.
A great little brunch spot with a relaxed, welcoming vibe. The Carnitas bowl was flavorful and satisfying, and the eggs Benedict were equally impressive—light, fresh, and perfectly balanced. The standout for me was the lobster deviled eggs, absolutely bursting with flavor. We never felt rushed, which made for a comfortable, laid-back experience. The only downside was the service could’ve been a bit more attentive—getting drink refills took longer than expected. That said, it didn’t take away from the overall experience. Definitely a great choice for a casual and tasty brunch.
We were here on a Saturday for brunch. The pancake powerhouse and the 1847 Benedict were so delicious! I wasn’t quite happy with the southwest bowl, but it is very satiating with the amount of eggs in it. Loved the atmosphere, but we were being bothered by a few flies throughout our visit which kind of threw us off. I hope they’ll take some steps to improve their sanitary aspects.
We made a reservation which is smart. It isn't a tiny or huge place, and was busy on a Saturday night. The cocktails were reported to be fine. I ordered a bottle of wine, after trying it I asked our water not to poor it and just let it breath...the bottle went back to the bar and I ended up getting one glass and paying for one glass. It worked out for the best as the wine wasn't great and was starting to turn. We tried the bread and the brisket croquettes both were bery good. All of the 4 proteins at the table were reported to be delicious, I had the chicken, which was perfectly cooked with an excellent sauce. You must order your sides as your protein doesn't come with any. We had potatoes, green beans and salad. The salad was fantastic not the same dull salad you can get anywhere. The green beans had some zip and the squash was a fun addition, the potatoes were equally tasty. We passed on desert as it was a blood orange with ginger desert or chocolate ice cream and neither sounded particularly appealing. We will try it again when the menu shifts. I love that so much is locally sourced, everything tasted fresh, the energy level is high, and people watching its entertaining.
We had such a wonderful time at this restaurant. The workers were welcoming and treated us with kindness. The food arrived quickly and tasted fresh and homemade. It’s a great spot for families or a night out with friends.
Our first time there for our anniversary. Really enjoy the atmosphere and it reminds us of Lotte. Entree’s were good but not outstanding. Wife got lobster spaghetti and enjoyed it. I got flat iron steak with frites and ordered medium rare but received medium well. The star was the dessert which was peaches homemade strawberry marscapone ice cream. Really delicious. Service was top notch with water refills and management making sure everything was going well.
Excellent wine and cocktail selection. Sourdough appetizer was good but inconsistent (some parts warm and tasty, others cold and dry). We had pasta and it was excellent, so fresh and flavorful. Service was ok, but after our food arrived the server disappeared until our check came. Restaurant is very noisy and bright for an upscale restaurant. If you’re looking for atmosphere or romance this isn’t the place but I might have a business dinner here.
This restaurant truly impressed me with its excellent service and delicious menu; every dish we tried tasted fresh and perfectly seasoned. The staff were professional, welcoming, and very knowledgeable about the food. The overall ambiance made the dining experience even better, and I would definitely return.
Visited for brunch but unfortunately the experience was a bit negative as the food and drinks of one of the people in our group was extremely delayed. The delay was substantial for them to comp the meal and a drink. Some dishes were just average. The service was good besides the delay from the kitchen. Enjoyed the Bloody Mary and they do have other good cocktails. Will surely give them another try.
For the cost of food, it was just an ok experience. Don't get me wrong, all of the food tasted great, but nothing about it was better or more unique than other places in town where the cost is often less. It was a fine brunch. Nothing to write home about.
We were celebrating our 6th anniversary and unfortunately received super poor service, which as a former server myself, you wouldn’t expect at a restaurant with $50 dollar entrees. Although we did not have our waters filled up once and the server barely stopped by our table, she was spending an awful lot of time with a table next to us that seemed to be ordering quite a bit. It took us 30 minutes to even get our orders in, and I had to ask the server if they had any specials. I understand my boyfriend and I may look young, but don’t assume what we can and cannot afford and be equally attentive to all your tables. Aside from that the food was okay, but the customer service can make or break an experience.
Great staff , nice environment. I would recommend brunch over dinner. Loved my salmon plate for brunch. However I ordered the Peruvian chicken for dinner and the Peruvians would be disappointed. The glaze on the chicken was sweet? And the chicken was undercooked. I love Peruvian chicken but this was a huge disappointment. The staff did everything they could to make it right. Try their drink menu!!
Service was slow. I'm not at all price sensitive when dining, but a 3% surcharge on credit cards felt tacky (build your average cost structure into the lump sum of the item). Food was good but small portions, drinks were mid.
Went there for dinner last night for the first time and was not impressed. Overall, the vibe is great but the service could be better. Waiter walked past our table three times and said “oh I need to refill your water”. It should not take three times and on the fourth for you to come by and fill waters. Our regular drinks never got refilled either. I had the meatloaf with green beans and mashed potatoes. The French onions were stale and not good as well. I truly hope that this place can turn it around and have some better service. Great concept just needs some tweaking.
The pictures online looked amazing. I was very disappointed. One of our servers was rude. I ordered a ribeye stake. I order it medium and it came out well done. For the price of our meal I expect better. I will not be returning and will not recommend this place to anyone.
3rd strike and they are out. Three bad experiences. When I complained they gave me attitude. Advertised as single meatloaf not single serving. Supposed to be 11 oz. Was barely 9. For $18?? Plus they cancelled my order and claimed it was my fault (it wasn’t).
Wanted to try this place for a while, boy was I disappointed. Walked in and was not kindly greeted but instead just stared at. I asked to be seated outside and was met with a blank look and then silently lead outside to an end table. We waited 15 minutes to receive water and a greeting. There were a couple servers attending to other customers and not once were we acknowledged. We were ready to order as soon as the waitress got there. The water was warm and stagnant, the bloody mary was terrible! Bland, bitter, watery, and the only thing I had in it was an olive. Where was the celery? The food was nothing more than average. Homegrown needs to show them a thing or two. The waitress was not as attentive as I would have liked and only was at our table 4 times in the 2 hours we were there. To drop off water and take the order then to take a plate and bring the check. The overall experience was not only less than average but super disappointing and unexpected from such an establishment. It is safe to say that we will not be back and we will be letting others know. Do better!
