I had a really great time here. As an Indigenous Mexican from Oaxaca, I was excited to try this restaurant’s food, and I was genuinely impressed with the mole, it tasted authentic. That said, if you’re looking for truly traditional Mexican dishes, this isn’t quite it; the menu leans more toward fusion. Still, everything was very good. I’ll admit it was a bit silly of me to assume the employees would be from Oaxaca — they weren’t. But overall, the experience was beautiful. The outdoor ambiance was so relaxing, and I really enjoyed my visit.
It’s a really nice spot for regional Mexican cuisine in Brooklyn! The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating. The empanadas were spectacular, infused with the flavors of salsa verde, vegetables, and queso chihuahua! I would 100% recommend dining here and bringing friends/family! I would definitely come back here.
One of the most delicious Mexican food I ever had. The flavors are out of this world! Authentic at its finest. I love the beautiful music they play and the service is awesome and professional.
I’m surprised this place wasn’t packed when I came in. The decor was so nice especially their spacious backyard section. Service was great—our waitress Abby was amazing. And the food was absolutely delicious! Honestly, the best Mexican food I’ve ever had. The beef short rib was my favorite item. It’s truly high quality with many options. It’s not some cheap low quality taco spot. This is real Mexican cuisine. It’s one of my favorite restaurants now and I can’t wait to return. Mind you, I’m picky and a foodie so this means a lot. Please support this restaurant y’all!
The Happy Hour margaritas were amazing, then they were followed up by the delicious chicken, steak and shrimp tacos! Definitely have to go back. The waiter was very attentive and helpful.
Lovely authentic Oaxacan restaurant in the neighborhood serving beautifully-plated dishes. The mole here is so good, and I was especially surprised to see they had pulque (wasn’t on the menu).
Went for the first time with my husband and we absolutely loved it. They don’t have their liquor license yet but we got a regular and strawberry lemonade that tasted so fresh and perfect for the summertime heat. They started off giving complimentary tortilla chips. We order the taco Tuesday deal (3 for $14) which you could mix and match. They tasted so flavorful and very filling. For dessert we got churros that came with this coffee sauce that was surprisingly very delicious. Everything was perfect right when we stepped inside. Great customer service, clean, and of course food tasted 1000/10. Can’t wait to try other stuff
Came here with my girlfriend on Christmas eve. We just needed a place to sit while we waited for a nearby pickup order. Turns out, it’s the best Mexican food and service I’ve had in NYC! Jimmy was our server and he was exceptionally attentive and kind. I’m honestly a food snob and I was blown away by everything. I tried 4 different margaritas and recommend them all, but top two were: - Berrylicious (smokey, heavier flavor) - Alma del Sol (super light and sweeter)
Never would I have thought that an Oaxacan restaurant would stand at the top of my list for best beef ribs, but here we are. The ribs were insanely tender and flavorful, putting to shame some of Texas's most renowned BBQ spots. And there was a LOT of it, around 8 pieces of I'm remembering correctly! The chips and salsa were amazing as well. The chips were insanely crunchy and had great thickness, and were paired awesomely with the prepared salsa! The atmosphere was inviting, comforting, and surprisingly had lots of seating that would not have been visible at initial glance. To keep it short, this place is an all-around gem in the Brooklyn food scene and thank you for providing me with such an exquisite experience!
An absolute gem in Brooklyn Every bite tastes fresh. The smoked mild salsa? Hands down the best I’ve ever had, smoky with just the right kick. Their margarita was fantastically crafted, balanced and bright without being overly sweet. Friendly staff and laid-back, chill vibes make it the kind of spot you want to linger in.
I am so glad I was walking by with my sister when we did. The wonderful staff was handing out flyers for the restaurant while we were on our way to another Mexican eatery we always go to. We took a look at the menus and turned right around and went into Ruta. Everything was amazing. I have been obsessed with Chicken Mole for a few weeks now trying it almost everywhere I can. So when I say everything was good, everything was good. The salsa that comes with the chips is so rich and hearty. We got two orders of chips and salsa. We got the Mexican street corn. I got the Mole and my sister has the shrimp tacos. I got rice and beans too. Everything was so flavorful. I definitely will be back. This place is about to be packed all summer I can just feel it, I can taste it!
I love Ruta! We are so happy that this Mexican restaurant is in our neighborhood now. We have seen this large restaurant change to different types of food and businesses and finally landed in a sophisticated and yet warm Mexican cuisine. We came here twice this week. Service is wonderful! Definitely try the short ribs!
We absolutely loved the authentic Oaxacan meal we had here. From the food to the vibe, this is a spot to add to your list You gotta get their Valentine’s Day specialty Cocktail — a guava margarita that is clarified and topped with cotton candy! 👀 🍹 We highly recommend the Chicken Bunuelos, the Grilled Pulpo and defiantly try these Baby Back Ribs
We were in the mood for tacos and Ruta Oaxaca delivered. They had a bottomless brunch going on but we were able to snag a seat at the bar. The fish tacos were delicious and could be prepared either breaded or pan fried. The birria taco and el pastor taco were also phenomenal. I would skip on the veggie one next time, and try something else instead. They used corn tortillas which was great for me since I’m gluten-free. All and all, we’ll be back!

Been to Ruta a number of times for dinner and brunch. Meals have been delicious every time. Rate it as top Mexican in this area. For me they have the most authentic guac and homemade chips. They also have an incredible mezcal inventory for tasting flights and speciality cocktails. Great service and friendly staff. Today’s pics are from brunch Highly recommend checking them out
Made reservations for what can be the busiest day of the year - V day. Booking a spot via Google maps was a breeze. Received confirmation in 15 seconds and an email in 30 seconds. Call the restaurant the next day just to confirm that everything was on file for the reservation. Arrived 5 minutes before 8:00 p.m. and was seated right at 8:00 p.m. The restaurant was at capacity but the food and drinks were flowing seamlessly out of the kitchen to the tables. We started off with freshly made chips, salsa and guac 🥑. Can we had steak and tacos as the main course which were excellent. The drinks were just the right mix and the service was on point. There was no rush to get you out so we will be back again. Maybe for mother's day ❤️.

I wish I would’ve known about this place a lot sooner. Food was so tasty and well seasoned. I had the birria and al pastor tacos, and the cheese with chorizo appetizer. The ambience was fun and lively, but not loud. It also had a nice bar atmosphere. This is the type of place where you want to have a good meal, and be around people. Will definitely come back.
Absolutely loved this Mexican spot! The food is incredible—everything from the chicken to the salmon was spot on. The drinks are super creative and fun, making it the perfect spot for date night or hanging out with friends. I finished my meal with churros, which were amazing! Such a fun experience overall—highly recommend checking it out.
I had a good time. I went on a Sunday with my wife and it was a pretty chill atmosphere. I had the steak tacos and she had the birria tacos. Both were super delicious. Great place to eat.
Walked into this place almost at random and was not disappointed. It was on the way to our subway and my wife wanted tacos. Saw the reviews were good so we went in and were not disappointed. Both our meals were great, as were the chips and salsa they give you while you wait. The staff was extremely attentive and friendly. Everything felt high quality and just generally well done.

If you're in the mood for some delicious tacos, this place is a must-visit on Taco Tuesday! Their specials are fantastic, and you might think that happy hour means settling for lesser quality food, but that's definitely not the case here. The chips were crispy and flavorful, and the tacos were fresh and absolutely tasty. They are super affordable. The only downside was the service, which was a bit slow, especially since there was only one other table occupied. However, the vibrant decor and upbeat atmosphere more than made up for it. Overall, it’s a great spot to enjoy some yummy food with friends, and I can’t wait to go back!
Fun local mexican, complimentary nachos and salsa is a nice touch. Food isnt mind blowing but has a lot of variety. Great value for money and perfect hangover food for sure. The outdoor space is cute.
