This is rockaways number one deli. Everyone funnels through this spot as soon as the beach opens, and its a solid spot to get everything you need. Beers, food, delicious and the menu is broad. The place has a mini supermarket inside. Nothing is overpriced. The chopped cheese is crack. There's an ATM inside, they also have certain lil items such as disposable razors, and feminine products. Breakfast lunch and dinner, always servwd by a helpful, humble and friendly staff. It has an old school feel and tradition. Most places nowadays cannot say the same and cant make half the sandwich these guys can make.

Great little Bodega, everything I need. Counter with bagels, muffins, pastries and an awesome menu of comfort foods. Not a lot of "healthy" food here of course. Employees all chill and civil. They are remodeling/expanding right now. Roomier is better. No cat that I have seen yet. The neighborhood is ok. I mean it is NY. Normal citizenry. So far we'll behaved.

Seriously the best deli in the area. Meats, bakery and produce is always fresh, as well as the pre-cut fruits (except the apples for some reason). Generally good variety overall. I find their non-deli items more pricey than other small deli/grocery spots. Mobile payments (NFC/Apple Pay/Google Pay) accepted here for speedy convenience. Text-to-order is clutch. Good coffee.

This place is the bomb. Always my go to spot for food when I come to Rockaway beach. I’ve come to this deli for about 10 years now. The last stop on the bus by 116 so perfect area to get whatever food you like at any time and it’s a short block away from the boardwalk. Get any last min drinks or chips or even coolers! They even have an option to text your order which is amazing!!! Cuts any waiting times since the lines sometimes are long - especially right now with covid- it’s easy to walk in and grab my food and go! Staff is always friendly and helpful. They have staff stop letting people in when it is too crowded and have had a box of masks to supply to customers. Overall- bomb spot for food ! I recommend their chicken strips with French fries + honey mustard sauce and their philly cheese steak with some delicious peppers.

That Philly Cheese Stake is a little piece of Heaven!!! I would not mind driving from Staten Island to come by and grab a couple of sandwiches... everybody that works there are well mannered, pay a lot of attention to the orders, and Sam is the best! Pickles n pies is an absolute Staple in Rockaway, I mean I’ve been working the night shift in the neighborhood for over 10 years and this place has always been a life saver for me. Since moving to Rockaway 2008, my family and have frequented this deli that is truly a one stop shop. The service has always been pleasurable and the sandwiches or combos have always been on point. The ultimate local deli around here, they got the best burgers in the area in my opinion BUT they will try to rip you off every now and then, specifically the newer employees...take it from someone who's been shopping there since 2006.

I like to buy my toilet paper here it's reasonable $10 for 20 roll of Marcel, you can get cold cuts, sandwiches etc my favorite is the lamb gyro. This place is near the train station, it is a local Deli and small grocery shop.

Pickles and pies is just a very huge Giant grocery store with a deli well I would never go near the deli because once I got deathly sick from their food I got contaminated by e-coli from their tuna sandwich they recently renovated and got larger but that doesn't mean larger is better it just means that you have more stuff to sell that's all and it's not necessarily the best stuff in the world too much joking on going around in the deli section and people are not paying attention to cleanliness such as wearing gloves and wearing head nuts I'm preparing food that they have to lean over

This is a very active deli 24 hours, attracts shoppers mainly from nearby Bell Harbor since its first store they see at Beach 116 street, I love the POTATO Salad, it's the greatest. The mac salad and egg salad are the best in town by far.

A Good Place for Sandwiches throughout the day. Staff is friendly and helpful. The only draw back is the delivery on numerous occasions they told me they deliver to my area to only have them say they don't deliver to my area or telling me the delivery guy left for the day???? Please get your act together with that. Other than that definitely recommend trying them.

Never had a bad experience other than sticker shock a couple times in the beginning. However, the grill personnel are top notch, so get the Philly Cheesesteak it's damn good.

This place has been around for ages. It's your typical corner store and has most of the things you might need like mik, toilet paper, eggs, ect. Perfect if you need to do some quick shopping. This place also stays open 24/7 and is a great place to stop late at night and grab a sandwich.

This score is mostly because night staff is so stiff. Day staff is efficient and answers your questions. Night staff just looks at you like you're crazy. This Market or Deli is a little on the expensive side compared to the other boroughs. But overall they make and serve delicious food and groceries. And it's really convenient you can get mostly anything there.

Didn’t eat anything . I hate stores that are inconsiderate. I hate that stores take money with no problem and don’t have the decency or courtesy to correct it the proper way. I work hard for my money and to try to support a small business that doesn’t care about my hard earned money is not okay. Now all of it can go in the garbage . This is more a review for the chicken over rice dish. Really not recommended for european stomachs. To heavy and way to much sauce if you are used to the european dishes. However good overall selection of products.

My friends and I waited over an hour after ordering a few sandwiches and drinks due to the staff constantly losing track of our order. We were met with dismissive and rude remarks when asking about the delay and in the end half of our order was incorrectly made. DO NOT RECOMMEND.

Service was horrendous - waited 1 hour plus in total to receive our food. Initial order was “lost”, noticed that several other people behind us were being served. Had to reorder which was again lost/pushed behind other orders. Better off buying some deli turkey and throwing something together yourself.

I originally left Pickles and Pies a five-star review because I genuinely enjoyed their food and service. However, after today’s visit, I feel it’s only fair to revise my review based on my recent experience. I placed my order of cheesesteak fries and clearly requested only meat, cheese, and fries—no onions or peppers. Unfortunately, the dish came loaded with both. I live all the way up on Beach 81st Street and don’t drive, so going back to Beach 116th just to get the order corrected is not convenient at all especially when I got home at 2:00 p.m. and got back there at 3:10 p.m. just to get the order corrected so it took an hour just to get back there. That doesn't include going all the way back home again. Their menu says they deliver and they didn't even offer. When I originally called to report the issue, the only resolution offered was to return in person for a remake, which really doesn’t help when you do not live close by and you're already home. They apologized, which I appreciate, but when you’re spending $60 on food for three people, you expect the order to be right or at least for the resolution to feel a little more accommodating. Great food matters—but so does getting it right and making things right when a mistake happens. This time, unfortunately, it missed the mark.

I been going to pickles for awhile now I ordered a chicken gyro they gave me big pieces of grilled thin cutlets dry chicken long big pieces… they really fell off the chicken over rice they don’t even make the chicken properly anymore. If I’m only talking about food then there is a good food but if I’m speaking of customer service of some of the men behind the counter then it’s terrible!!!! When I first moved to the area I tried the establishment and was treated poorly. I walked out and didn’t come in for months. I was walking by in the early morning and tried again for a second time. The gentlemen behind the cash register were so nice! It was short lived by another visit last night another rude man behind the food bar. I walked out without a salad . I’ll keep my money . I went there and it was a terrible experience I was judged from the moment I walked in the door I said hi to the cashier he ignored me and looked in my direction. So I waited in line to place a order and the guy was rude 8 minutes later in the bakery I see a roach crawling and tell the deli people they just stare at me , so I asked for my money back and they just gave me a refund .

On December 16th, 2022 at approximately 2:50am, I entered Pickles & Pies Food Market & Deli to purchase a bottle of Poland Spring water priced at $2.25 USD and an Ensure Nutrition Shake priced at $2.25 for a total of $4.50 USD. When I placed my items for purchase on the store counter, the employee immediately asked me, “EBT?”. I replied, “Excuse me?”. The employee repeats his question “EBT?”, referring to the Electronic Benefit Transfer card or more commonly know as Food Stamps, a public assistance program that helps human beings provide food and water for themselves and families. Although anyone, regardless of race or gender, who meets the qualifications to receive EBT benefits such as SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Program) can have an EBT card, his wrongly and racially-prejudice assumption that I, a young African-American college senior, would be paying for my items totaling $4.50 USD with an EBT card is in fact racial profiling. I was completely in shock that the employee automatically assumed that the method of payment I would use was an EBT card so I the asked him, “Why would you assume that I was paying with EBT?”. The employee responded “No, no, no.” I proceeded to ask, “Do you ask every customer that shops here if they are using an EBT card?” The employee responded, “No.” I then asked, “If you do not ask every customer that shops here if they are using an EBT card, what made you ask me if I was?” The employee stated at me with a very blank expression. I proceeded to ask, “Is it because I am Black?” The employee said “Sorry, sorry, here’s your change.” As an Afro-American studies and Criminology major at one of the top collegiate institutions in the world, I study racism, racial injustice and racial prejudice as it pertains to the Black community and those of Color. I am well aware of the microaggressions toward the Black community expressed by others daily, however the employees actions were deplorable, inhumane and unjust.

Holy cow! This place is a disaster. I called to order one ☝🏼 cheeseburger (not quantum physics) and the guy told me to text it in. I get it, he didn’t want to write 3 syllables. No problem. I text it in. I walk over and show the guy my text. I said is that the right number, he said yes, but they didn’t receive it. So I asked him, who takes the calls, he said the guy’s at the register. I asked the guy at the register who takes the calls? He said the guy behind the grill. I said that’s it! Give me my cheeseburger, I’m never coming in here again. It took 40 minutes from the initial call to have that cheeseburger in my hand and it wasn’t even good.

Don’t buy the vegan food, they cook it on top of all the meats and pork. No courtesy for ppl who have food allergens. Maybe once someone gets really sick and hits them with a lawsuit then they will be mindful to things of that nature until then I’m never ordering food from here.

Worst deli I’ve ever been to - waited an hour just to order because the deli was prioritizing mobile orders and only took the orders of the people actually in the deli every 10 minutes. Once we finally ordered, they lost our order ticket and didn’t say anything until we asked for an update on our food 15 minutes later, and even after we ordered for a second time they still forgot to make our food and didn’t make our sandwiches until we asked for a third time. We also tried to order a smoothie at the line, were told to go up to the cashier for that, and when we did the man told us that we had to get back in the line (AT THE BACK, after we had already been there an hour) in order to get our smoothie because the other worker was mistaken. When we asked if he could just put the order in for us (since we literally had already ordered it, and were following their own instructions) the worker was very rude and acted as if we were being ridiculous for not wanting to wait another hour just for the smoothie we already ordered. When we expressed that we were not happy about the wait and service and asked if we could speak with a manager, we were very rudely dismissed by management who came over and immediately spoke over us, never let us get a word in before he just dismissed and brushed us off very rudely. We tried to explain but he would rudely interrupt us the moment we said anything, before he just walked away from us. And after everything, they got my sandwich wrong (I literally only asked for three ingredients). Would rate 0 stars if I could, there was absolutely nothing redeemable about this place - the service, the staff, the products, all 0 stars.
