Great place for tapas and a lovely atmosphere. Beautiful indoor and outdoor seating, for different ambiance styles. The cheese plate was absolutely perfect. And black squid ink paella is the best! Our server was super welcoming and professional.
A long leisurely dinner with old Friends. Great wines, tapas, entrees and desserts. Papperdelle with mushrooms and halibut were great. Flan delicious. Service a Little slow At start but Otherwise excellent
Came here with a friend for ladies night on Wednesday and it did not disappoint! Ordered a few dishes to share, and everything was lovely. 10/10 recommend. Also a very cozy space by the fireplace in the winter time.
I dont like to compare but you cant find food this good in Aspen. What a delicious gem!! 👌
Datiles were amazing!! Loved the creamy pastas--rigatoni and Alfredo!
We loved it! The summer salad, bacon wrapped dates, squid ink seafood paella and wine were all delish. I read thru the reviews beforehand and was on the lookout for the grayhaired gentleman and there was one who seated us, who I believe was the owner. He was nice to us! Consider your sources when reading reviews I guess. 😝 Highly recommend!
The pasta with elk sausages was delicious. I also had the gazpacho of the day which was topped with crab meat. Incredible!
Very good food, good service, awesome outdoor ambiance and a gift from heaven: a play area for kids!
Great food, wine was amazing, but the wait staff really made the meal most enjoyable by helping navigate the menu. The shrimp tapas were special.
Wow, on service from Alexander, who made our experience even better! Every single dish was tasty-delicious, and 6 were had. From the delightfully prepared paella, lamb shank, salmon, pasta...dates, yummy!
Delicious food. Interesting menu. Everything from appetizers, tapas, mains, desserts are wonderful. The only complaint I have is the noise level. Very hard to have a relaxing dinner when you have to shout.
Oh my, what a find on the way out of Aspen! One of the BEST tapas restaurants I’ve ever been to in the US and I’ve been to a lot. Our waiter, Luka, was outstanding despite the crowd outside on the patio. This was a Monday night too. If you’re in Aspen or headed home to Denver this is a great place for dinner. You won’t be disappointed.
Super accommodating of allergies and are true to their word on having gluten free options that are not only available, but are delicious. Everyone else had awesome food and we had great service - the dates, Spanish meatballs and the seafood soup appetizer had the crowd going wild
Very solid meal. I'm a critical rater and would have given them a 4.7 but cant do that. Their bread(pan) appetizers are exceptional. Calamari appetizer was a little off, but not enough. All entrees were great. It's not a low priced restaurant, but compared to some of the craziness in the area, not a bad value.
We hosted our wedding rehearsal dinner here for about 20 people. The food and service were above and beyond! They made my family feel like part of their own and everything we had was delicious. My guests are still talking about it days later. Thank you to Laura for helping me put everything together! A beautiful restaurant with delicious food all around.
Well prepared and interesting cuisine. Unique wine list too. We've eaten here twice since the initial review. The servers are great! We just had Kara and she took extra special care of us!
We’ve been to Tempranillo a few times and each time we’ve had a delicious meal. The tapas, paella, vodka sauce pasta and desserts. Our server Alex was also great. The fire place is lovely in the winter.
By far my favorite spot this trip! Fantastic food, interesting wine list, lovely service and owner. We’ve been back twice in 4 days and will come back again!
Fantastic food always. The Datiles are insane and you cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. The service is lacking at times mainly because of how quick Basalt as a city is growing, but definitely room for improvement. Overall I love this place and I would NOT skip it if you’re in basalt
The food was really good, the service was friendly and attentive, and the ambiance is great whether you’re dining alone or with a group. I had a lovely experience and would definitely return.
The atmosphere, service and food were Excellent. Our Waiter Oscar was very professional and fast with our orders. My wife and I will definitely be back here to visit the restaurant again when we are in Colorado.
Overall very nice dining experience. We have enjoyed dining inside and sitting out on the beautiful patio. In our several visits, with groups, just the two of us, food has been good to very good. Excellent wine selection with reasonable pricing. Service has generally been good and very friendly, but of course on busy evenings, patience is needed. Love the atmosphere.
As usual, the food was amazing. The Restaurant was exceptionally busy on the night we were there and the did not miss a beat. Javier’s team is very friendly and professional, and his food is even better. Great food, great wine, great atmosphere, great service.
The food is absolutely fabulous! Loved the bread with fresh tomatoes and manchego cheese. The chicken piccata and the fettuccine were absolutely wonderful. A great hidden treasure in Basalt!
My absolute favorite restaurant! Such an amazing restaurant with great tapas and service. The bar steak was out of world and the Bolognese is always amazing!
This restaurant is good, but not great. Nothing memorable. The food is okay, the patio is lovely. The service could be better. Overall an enjoyable experience eating dinner outdoors with friends. I would think twice about returning.
We had a pleasant experience here during our vacation. We sat on the patio with our dogs, it’s very dog friendly which was great for us! They have a huge and magical patio space. I was so hungry, I forgot to take pictures of the food. We had the fried calamari to start, which was juicy and fresh tasting. I had the linguine and clams, which was delicious and exactly what I wanted! My only wish was that it was slightly bigger. My husband had the veal Marsala, which was a generous portion, but he found it to require vigorous cutting with a less than sharp knife. However, the flavor was good. We enjoyed our waitstaff, who were tolerant of our dogs and enjoyed their quirks! I would look forward to coming back the next time I am in town.
Our poor waiter had a hell of a night. Asked if a dish had tomatoes due to allergy and was told it was tomato free. But it wasn't 😔 Got the wrong calamari appetizer, but it was still delicious. Delivered dessert coffee as he informed us that they were out of our desired dessert. Secondary entrée and coffees ended up on the house though. Despite some service issues, the food was ultimately quite yummy.
If you’re looking for authentic Spanish food, go somewhere else because you won’t find it here. I saw a waiter ask someone if they wanted Parmesan on top of their paella. Insanity! However, if you’re looking for a nice place to chill and have a decent dinner, then you’ll do fine here. The pasta portion was huge.
Great tapas. Highlights were the calamari, the artichokes and the shrimp. We will be back.
I was not overly impressed. The food was okay and not what you expect for the price. I had the cappellini shrimp ad arugula, the pasta was overcooked and mushy. For a $28 plate of pasta perfectly cooked pasta is expected. I do know that I rarely find cappellinj on a menu and maybe its so thin its hard to prepare. We had the house appetizer shrimp, mushrooms, arugula and a balsamic reduction that was divine and my husband was happy with his meal. We may go back but not regularly.
The food were really good. I forgot to take pictures. We messed up the time on our reservation but they were able to seat us. We mainly got the tapas: meatballs, vegetables, mussels, and calamari dishes. They were all good. The entree was the steak, it was little bland for me and too much fat. Overall food was great. The server is horrible which ruined the dinner. He got me the wrong soda, and never refill my water. He spent most of the his time talking to the table next to us without even looking over to our table. The restaurant is not even big. I had to break up his conversation to asked him to fix my drink and add more water after we ate all of our first course (all those tapas dishes). Not once he came over to check on us once we received our food. He had a different server came up to asked us if we want any dessert. After we said no, he quickly came back with our check within a minute. The runner that dropped off the food was wonderful, I wish the tips would go to him instead. Overall food was good, service was horrid. I would change different server if I ever come back.
I ate here with a big party and got to try a lot of the dishes. Most of the food was fantastic, including the specials. The outdoor area is completely lovely and definitely worth the visit, even if you’re just having a glass of wine. The wine list is extensive and the servers are knowledgeable and attentive. However, if you’re going to charge 40, 50, 60+ per entree, at least renovate your bathrooms. I’ve seen nicer bathrooms in a 7/11. You re charging 5 star prices, so maybe commit all the way. And there’s another review recently about the pállela being bland. I can confirm that.
Why? ??!! We loved this place. Most was still good but we’ve been getting the seafood pallia every time we’re in town for literally 5 years. This time is was not good!!!! Used to have a small lobster tail, like 6 shrimp, the saffron rice was delicious and it had small splatterings of some type of cream sauce. This time it was just bad. The rice was soggy, pasty and bland. No cream sauce. No lobster tail, 3 shrimp. It had clams which were so fishy I literally spit it out. The muscles were mushy and bad tasting. Sad! Was one of our favorites, now we’re looking for somewhere new……
This place was highly recommended by some local friends and we were disappointed. Food was just ok. A $30 pasta dish had shrimp that were bland and a poor dry texture. The calamari w chorizo was very vinegary - if it was chorizo then id be surprised and the calamari was a bit tough. Salad was ok. Check arrived with extra charges that were surprising. Avoid.
the food was fantastic at this restaurant. They did an amazing job with the tuna appetizer that was a special, and those sauces and dishes were really well-thought-out and good. That said, when all of the waiters are walking around with their masks blow their nose and several of them were walking around with the masks hanging from one ear it leaves a little bit to be desired food safety wise. The bartender also had her mask worn only hanging down on one ear instead of actually across her face for more than an hour, and the owner of the restaurant was sitting next to us chatting with a table while she watched her employees walk around with the masks improperly worn. It really concerned us... food safety wise... when stuff like this happens. If a pandemic doesn't concern you, It makes me wonder what else gets overlooked in the dirty kitchen.
This was a difficult dining experience. Our waiter was rather slow through the entire experience, and when he was presence he was pretty pushy about ordering appetisers and entrees and a third course ( I am not sure what was expected after the first 2). I was told that I need to order another entree after my girlfriend ordered an appetizer for an entree?! It took multiple times to tell him that was all we wanted to order for dinner. There may have been a communication breakdown our server was Russian and had a thick accent. While he was taking our orders he made a suggestion for a modification for my uncle, he took the suggestion, come to when the food was dropped my uncle's order was wrong. Fast forward 15 minutes, everyone is mostly done with their food and we are still waiting for the server for a check back to let him know that his suggestion came out wrong. I decided to go and find him to let him know of the issue. In the meantime the manager came to our table and asked how everything was. They told her what was going on before I could get back. When our server came back to the table with another tables drinks, he was upset that we "told" the manager of the issue, and was asking why we did that (she came to our table like stated before). At that point the server took the wrong order plate and disappeared with it only to wait another 15 minutes for the correct one to come to the table. The server was also taking our $16 cocktails off the table before we were even done with them. All in all the service did not match the price of the menu. And on that note it's a Spanish restaurant so naturally I wanted to get a paella. Unfortunately, the paella was extremely dry. Every single piece of seafood on the dish is shriveled except the shrimp, the rice had a crust over the top. I'm not sure what happened at the kitchen but it was something that probably should not have hit the table. When we were ready to get the check, we asked that the check be split up four ways for the four families that were dining. We were told that he could only divide it up 3 ways, annoying but we'll get through it. Once we asked for the check it somehow took 45 minutes to take payment and bring it back. This was a sad experience all around. There is definitely room for improvement.
The appetizers were good, but the main course and sides were terrible. The food was over cooked, not seasoned properly, and the quality of the food was not good ‼️ Very disappointing and in addition to the above, the main courses came out at different times a good 10 minutes apart from the first to the last. And many of them were cold.. They are understaffed as well. I would only come back to sit and have drinks and appetizers.
Food quality has gone down hill in recent years. Told my server I had a mushroom allergy and my food comes out with mushrooms. He offers to remake it and I asked for it to go since the rest of my party was already eating. I was told the owner was in and wanted to charge me for both dishes even though it was their mistake. I’ve been eating here for over 7 years. I live in town and have for over 15 years. I probably won’t be going back.
Disappointing Service Experience at Tempranillo I visited Tempranillo in Basalt after seeing it listed as one of the top restaurants in the area. The setting was lovely, and I chose to sit outside to enjoy the atmosphere. Unfortunately, my experience quickly went downhill due to the service. Our waiter, an older gentleman with gray hair, brought us menus. When I asked him what he recommended or what the best seller was, he gave a dismissive answer: “It’s all good. I can’t pick just one.” I tried again by asking what most people tend to order, hoping for some guidance, but he repeated the same vague response, saying they’re all best sellers. Rather than taking a moment to ask what I liked—chicken, beef, seafood—or making any effort to help me find something I’d enjoy, he made me feel like my questions were silly or inconvenient. I got the strong impression that he didn’t want to be there and certainly didn’t care about creating a good experience for customers. I stood up and left. I don't mind paying higher prices if the service matches the atmosphere and reputation, but I will not dine in a place where I’m made to feel unwelcome or like an annoyance. I’m sure the food may be good based on other reviews, but respectful, engaged service is just as important. I hope the owners take this as constructive feedback and provide additional training to staff on hospitality. After all, a restaurant's job isn’t just to serve food—it’s to make people feel glad they came.
We ordered the Paella. Very bland. Like no flavor at all. Tasted like they added flour to saffron rice to thicken the sauce. We felt it was overpriced for what you get. We won’t be back.
Service was decent. Restaurant and light fixtures were very dusty, the table was sticky and decor was outdated. Food was a complete letdown. This is the first tapas restaurant I've been to that brings all the dishes out at once and it left us feeling rushed and unwelcome. The food was highly lacking in flavor and appearance - we had six vegetarian tapas and they were unremarkable. Everything was pale and didn't look like it was cooked long enough, the bread was hardly toasted, the dishes were bland and unseasoned except for loads of garlic, the seasonal vegetables looked and tasted like frozen veg, the mushrooms had the appearance and texture of canned mushrooms, patatas bravas appeared boiled and were flavorless, roasted olives were decent but had too many dried herbs on them and the piquillo peppers were bland and the tomato sauce on top was flavorless. We also had a pitcher of sangria which cost $50 (!) and was fair at best. The vibe felt off in this place. Would not recommend.
I was so excited about visiting this restaurant after seeing good reviews on my gluten free app and even receiving a glowing review from a local. Considering the prices, I was expecting an enjoyable environment. Unfortunately, we were seated in the bar area despite being the first to arrive for dinner for the evening and having a reservation that said we were celebrating an anniversary. The table wobbled, the surface was sticky, and my view for our nice anniversary dinner was a football game on an oversized tv. My salad was drenched in vinegar, the overpriced branzino had zero flavor, especially for a Spanish restaurant, and the chocolate crème brûlée was basically a soupy pudding with burnt sugar. My husband enjoyed his pasta so I’m giving this an extra star for that. Otherwise, our server was unpleasant and disinterested in ensuring that I didn’t get sick despite an allergy. I did have an upset stomach later, and we will not be coming back when visiting the area in future.
Food is fair, not great for the extreme prices. Far from authentic Spanish food. Service feels unwelcoming , not the same for everyone...the waiters ignored us all the time and were not family friendly. They make you feel bad instead of served. COVID-unaware place.this guy put us the pepper directly from the other table, with grade included upon. Don’t go if you are looking for a friendly or familiar environment!
Extremely disappointed with our experience at Tempranillo. Even though we were welcomed nicely by a younger hostess, our dinner wasn’t very pleasant to say the least. The service by an older waitress was just enough not to be rude. Luckily the waiter was nicer to deal with. The food was definitely not what we were expecting after reading the reviews: overcooked and barely warm veal Marsala, undercooked paella so you would feel the floury taste of the rice, no more bolognese pasta, extra cost to split our plate and 20% compulsory tip for a party of 5 (including one kid). This restaurant seems to want to play high end, but nothing there goes that route beside prices. Unfortunate experience, we thought that we would share our disappointment.
The food was so bland and tasteless that I at one point asked my girlfriend if she was tasting anything because I was worried I may be coming down with Covid and losing my taste. We came home and our other food tasted great. No covid lol. I asked for lettuce for my chicken fajitas and she came back and handed me a side salad and pointed to it and said "lettuce", which I used the lettuce from to then find out it was covered in ranch dressing. No thanks. Who does that?
We always come to this place, I could say it was our favorite restaurant in the valley until today. they were slow, but they still manage to give us the worst service. We order some bread and when it came to the table it was cold, like it was literally just come out of the fridge. We ordered some soft drinks, but they never came, until we asked for them like 20 minutes since we sat. When are mains came, we didn’t have any silverware. and we have to wait like 10 minutes until someone notices us and gave us silverware. I’m so sad with our experience today. they should just hire people that really loves their job and know what they doing.
I dined at this restaurant and had a steak and cocktails at the bar on a recent business trip. Upon returning to my home 300 + miles away I discovered that I had the credit card receipt but not my credit card. I immediately called and spoke with Saul who verified that they had my credit card. I thanked him and asked politely if he would kindly mail my corporate credit card back as it was a 600 mile + trip to drive up there and get it from the restaurant. I offered to compensate him for his efforts for time and cost to send it back. Saul promised to throw it in an envelope and put a .68 postage stamp on it, walk across the street to the post office and drop it in the mail. Two weeks later I still have not received my credit card back and the restaurant no longer has it. I’m very upset and extremely disappointed that Saul gave me his word and NEVER mailed it as promised. I now have to report it to the police as stolen. Thanks Saul. I really appreciate you lying to me. I would NOT recommend this restaurant EVER.
Thin steaks with a lot of fat. Instead of a written menue, you have to listen to a long speech by the waiter in a crowded place for the nine items. Not worth it.
I had a terrible experience here that completely turned me off from ever coming back. I had parked in one of their clearly marked customer parking spots with the full intention of dining in (as I’ve done twice before), but needed to quickly grab some cash from the bank right across the street first. Before I could even step out, an older, large man, around 5’8”, with grayish hair stormed up to my car and immediately started being aggressive and rude, asking me sarcastically if I could read. I stayed polite and explained that I was about to eat there, but he just kept going, talking down to me for no reason. The whole encounter was so unnecessary and hostile, it completely ruined my mood and appetite, so I left. Honestly, the two times I did eat here before, the food was already disappointing, bland and forgettable. But this last experience sealed it for me. I’d rather support a place that knows how to treat people with basic respect.
