Most amazing Mexican food I've ever tried. My wife said she cant stop dreaming about it since we live too far to eat there often. It’s a must try. Every time we travel through we plan to stop by.
Have been here a few times. Food and service is always good. The chicken tortilla soup is delicious, large, hearty and filling. Chips are homemade and fresh. Tried a super burrito with carnitas and it’s a large portion with fresh ingredients. Limited seating inside, but they have a larger heated patio which is comfortable.
I wanted authentic Mexican food and flair and I got it here, The shrimp burrito was loaded with sour cream, guac, cheese, black beans, salsa, etc was huge and delicious. The shrimp were giant, flavorful and grilled to perfection. There was a lemony flavor to the burrito which I really liked. Fresh vegies and grilled onions too. Mexican music! Not a yuppie place at all. Down home, Nice friendly staff. Loved the outdoor seating, right on University ave, but you wouldnt know it with all the plants, foliage, and a beautiful red rose bush
The fish taco was delicious. Crispy battered fish, crunchy slaw, sweet and spicy sauce... flavors all came together making every bite a little taste of heaven.
Good tacos, that's all I've had there
The food was incredible! Especially after touring Berkeley all day. We got the chicken burrito and tacos de papa, the agua de horchata is an absolute MUST it was fire.
Great food, had a surf& turf burrito with shrimp and carnitas, delicious! The patio is beautiful, great place to sit outside and eat.
Chili Colorado is sooo good here-love this place need to order more things haha 😂 ❤️
One of my former clients recommended this place when I said I was craving Mexican food, and I’m so glad I listened! I ordered a steak and shrimp super burrito, and my daughter had the chicken enchiladas with rice and beans. I also got a horchata—my favorite—and she had a pineapple agua fresca. Our food came out super fast, everything was fresh and absolutely delicious. The staff was kind, helpful, and made great suggestions. Bonus points for the parking lot in the back—I pulled right in and walked straight in to order. We’ll definitely be back!
Found this place years ago and it quickly became a favorite. When I first discovered it, it was hands down the best food at an amazing price. Now you kinda get what you pay for prices have climbed quite a bit but the food is really good. Check out the mole plate, if you like mole it's the best around.
My go-to when I am in Berkeley. The food is delicious. I usually get a super burrito or nachos. The serving size is large, and I always have leftovers. The service is great.
Food was fire, we ordered chips n guac for the table, breakfast burritos, nachos, nopales poblano moles and chipotle chicken sandwich. Food was very flavorful and very filling! Their sauces were bomb.
I met a few of the friends there for my birthday. The courtyard on a beautiful day is a nice draw. The multitude of yummy menu offerings is also a reason why I will return. I only had a fish taco today it was okay. It was on 2 wet tortillas. They gave me enough food that I could have used two more tortillas. Though it's kind of self-service as far as cutlery. The staff bringing out the food consistently brought napkins and silverware if they saw you hadn't prepared for your meal properly.
Wow is all I can say about this place!!!!🤩 Everything is so GOOD!!🤪😋 We ate here every night and a couple times during the day during our stay for The String Cheese concerts at Berkley and they do NOT disappoint!!😍 If you get a chance to eat here and you love Mexican like I do, DO IT!!😃
When ever I go to Berkeley I always stop at the people's park and walk around the place with a clipboard and a 100 foot tape, I draw out rough lines that could be building lo layouts, ask people to hold the end of the tape and measure out this way and that way. The questioning starts and I try to be as vague as possible but in the end I tell them there's going to be a super Walmart and a string of fast food joints, McDonalds, Burger King, Taco Bell, Jack in the Box, and 3 national pizza chains. Oh boy do they get excited for the fight! Then I head straight to La Mission for tacos! They're the best on University ave.
What a fantastic meal, so yummy, and everyone was really great. 10/10 would recommend!
Amazing place, the Mexican drink is amazing. Love the staff, very courteous and kind
Order at the counter for authentic and delicious food. Tacos were good and the mole was incredible. We sat out in the back patio for some sunshine. Excellent music and kind servers. Highly recommend!
Pretty good overall! I loved the chicken burrio, but it's not quite the best one I ever had. I think the chicken could use a little bit of seasoning. And the hot sauce didn't really help. But it's still fantastic overall and better than most burritos I had. The vibe of the place is excellent, with music and outdoor seating. The service was friendly and quick! And the prices are reasonable. Will definitely come back.
My favorite Mexican restaurant in Berkeley. Favorites: carnitas or chicharron burrito (or tacos), mole poblano plate, guac. Patio seating with heating (though the heating only covers about half the space).
My favorite spot outside of New Mexico for pozole! I cannot tell you the number of years I've been looking for a good pozole spot since moving away from NM, and this place has it. The carnitas salad and the burritos with carnitas/chicharon are amazing too! A favorite go to for takeout, dine in and late nights
We came out for our last dinner in California before heading back to Texas. My coworker wanted some Mexican food. So we stopped by the spot after driving around for a little bit. It's a nice little hole in the wall shop with some good authentic food. I got the fish tacos and they were excellent! Especially the Chipotle Crema! Overall from my short experience with the place I definitely recommend it!
La mission has been on my list for a while and glad I finally got to try it out! Now strolling around with a 2 month old ain't no joke but La Mission made it so easy for us! Just a 10min walk from North Berkeley BART, plenty of indoors and outdoors seating options and a chilled out attitude made it easy for young parents like ourselves. We sat outside and loved the breeze. Overall place is quite clean and so are the bathrooms. Service is friendly and fast :) Prices are quite on the upper side perhaps slightly cheaper than my favorite spot Casa Latina which is close by. Between the two of us we shared: - 2 Baja fish tacos $11.4 (side of rice and pinto beans) - 2 Enchiladas plato with poblano mole (pork) and guajillo mole (chicken) - Tres Leches - Flan Baja fish tacos were lovely - crispy and light full of flavor! Tad expensive for almost $6 each but worth it. Enchiladas were absolutely amazing - totally in love with their moles and especially the guajillo which was new for us. I would skip the pork (a tad dry) and stick with chicken. The more I try tres leches the more I realise i'm not a big fan. I've had a lot of tres leches in Albania (where I'm from) but it's made differently than here, it is more swimming in milk than cakey but hubby kinda liked the cake-y style of it. I on the other hand am totally a flan girl - this flan was rich and lovely. Can't wait to be back to try more from their menu :)
I ordered the Chicken Mole Poblano burrito. It was pretty big, filled with a lot of chicken. I would have liked a good balance of the onions and jalapeño, but not complaining about how much chicken was stuffed in this big boy. A McDonald’s meal now costs you $16 bucks, basic fast food vs this. I’d rather support a small business and get some authentic Mexican food. It was juicy, flavorful and the mole sauce was a good balance. The jalapeños and onions added texture and extra spice. I came around 9:30PM, was served a hot burrito within 10 minutes or so. Service was good too, they gave me extra salsa and weren’t stingy. Some places charge you extra like Que? I’d come here again!
The BEST Mexican food in the Bay Area! As a San Diego native, I take my Mexican food very seriously. La Mission has the perfect rice, beans and guac. Their menu provides many options while keeping with classic and delicious dishes. Their rice and beans are vegetarian which is incredible given most places add lard or chicken broth. Not to mention they leave the salsa dispensers right on the table for you. I HIGHLY recommend La Mission - it is my go to and it will quickly become yours too!!
Had lunch here and was so impressed. The food was fantastic! We had tacos de papa, mole flautas, and the mole vegetales burrito. Daughter said the potato tacos are a star dish and the wife and I loved the mole. Service is fast and friendly. Desserts and cookies in the display case look yummy. They also have nice outdoor seating and convenient parking in the back. One more place to add to my great eats in Berkeley map!
Dude this restaurant is amazing. I got their nachos and let me say, never in my life have i CLEARED a bowl of nachos like I did. The portions are also very big so you can have more for later or the next day. Straight up, even toppings I usually don't enjoy on my nachos, I ate up. Also have had their burritos in the past, always on point. I can trust La Mission to be there for me when nobody else will.
This is a MEXICAN restaurant. The very kindest and nicest service. The food is just way off the high end of the charts. The atmosphere... Fantastic. 6/5. Across the board. They have a chocolate horchata that is the best I have ever had.
BEST CHILAQUILES I’VE EVER HAD!!! People were so sweet too. Loved it, wish we found this spot at the beginning of our trip vs. the end! Can’t wait to come back!!
This place is AMAZING. So so so many vegetarian option too!!! The mole is really out of this world and I’ve only had one as good in Mexico City. Their table salsas are amazing too, actually flavorful, and actually spicy. They also have heated outdoor seating. I’m sad I don’t live in the same city as this fine and delicious establishment.
Friendly and helpful staff. I ordered the grilled fish taco and it was just the right amount of food. This was my first time eating at LA Mission and I look forward to returning again soon...maybe tonight when Im in Berkeley!
Big Mexican menu with great options. The chipotle chicken sandwich is amazing! It's a generous amount of food and the chipotle sauce is the perfect flavor and right amount of spice. Each time I stay out here for work I stop here for dinner. They have a nice patio area to chill out on. Definitely worth a stop!
I always enjoy eating at La Mission! When I stopped by yesterday, I tried the green breakfast enchiladas with chorizo which was so so good. The burritos are always generous and delicious. You order at the counter inside and then take a number and find a seat- my favorite ordering system. Plenty of outdoor seating as well, some of which is covered by a roof.
This place never fails me me and my family loves coming here. The food is delicious fresh every time customer service is always good me and my family love to get the chips and salsa and add guacamole to the side. My husband loves the burritos. Their fish tacos are phenomenal. I love getting their Huevo rancheros. Their nachos are really good. I just don’t have nothing bad to say we love coming here as a family it’s clean they’re professional food always delicious. Customer service is great highly recommend.
La Mission has excellent Mexican food with big portions. You would never know from looking at it because it looks like a fast food Mexican restaurant that has been renovated, in fact, long ago, it used to be other places. I wish they had more seating inside, there’s only enough room for maybe 10 people, and outside is usually too cold in Berkeley to go and hang out. But there is a lot of outdoor seating if the weather is decent. While everything I’ve had here has been good, the Baja fish taco might be my favorite. The posole is also good, but the portion is so huge. I felt like it was enough for five people. I wish the inside of the restaurant or a little bit warmer, but on the other hand, it stays open later than almost any place else around that has decent food.
Long ago about thirty years ago, La Mission was once a Taco Bell that my father and I frequent on the weekends. Now this historic gem is an authentic spot for delicious Mexican food. I am particularly picky when it comes to Mexican because most establishments make the rice and beans using meat broth stock. Here both rice and beans are purely vegan; a rarity to find. This couldn’t have been the most perfect burrito a vegan can ask for. Perfectly proportioned with fresh ingredients. Parking lot in back and beautiful outdoor seating. They offer alcoholic beverages and desserts. To order you walk to the front, pay, they give you a tag and when it’s ready they present your meal whether it’s to go for there.
Great food, nice customer service. Plenty of outdoor seating available as well. Make sure to get the chips and salsa with your dish! Comes with a spicy red sauce and a mild green sauce. 10/10!
I was recommended to try out La Mission by a good friend of mine and the recommendation did NOT disappoint. La Mission is hearty, Mexican fare with prices that are insane -- especially in this 21st…
SO GOOD!!! I got the poblano mole burrito super good. They charged extra for cheese but I could've done without it, the flavors of the mole were amazing

Fresh, hot, juicy carne asada tacos. I like the hidden oasis patio to sit outside, and am eager to return for the carnitas.
One of the first restaraunts I visited when I moved to Berkeley CA.\n\nWondeful Steak Tacos and the grand kids loved the Nachos.\n\nReasnobly prices and delicious.
La Mission offers a fairly standard menu. It is a pleasant and relaxing place to dine outdoors. It could be crowded at times and hard to find a table free. The food is fine.
From the hostess, bartender, waiter and chef, we we extremely pleased. Generous portions of great food. Every one of my picky family was happy. Thank you for a family friendly experience.
Authentic Mexican food great place to grab a bite to eat
I ordered a large guac taco. Way too much guac for me but hey to each their own. I should have kept it simple. The ordering area is nice and the outside seating area was nice.
Cute patio, but don't tell my girls they can't eat there cause you're closing soon and then after they order I order and you tell me I can stay.
The food is always just ok to me. The enchiladas could have more flavor and cheese. The rice and beans are bland. The cactus is good though. The portions aren’t great for the high prices you pay.
Housed in a remodeled old Taco Bell, La Mission serves up a tasty and broad selection of Cali-Mexican food. All of the standard taqueria fare is here, as well as ceviche, mole, a super-yummy flan, and more! I like the mojado (wet) burritos. Lots of outdoor seating, with some space heaters and roofing - limited seating indoors.
We just had 2 burritos in the patio, they were quite good, way above the average, and generous in quantity. The patio next to University Ave is nice, with plenty of tables with enough intimacy. Prices are high, though, $36 for 2 burritos before tips is also way above the average.
We enjoyed their very nice outside seating area. Chips and Salsa came out after our meals but very tasty, but just a little spicier than I'm used to. A nice variety on a small enough menu for freshness. Tacos and menudo were full of flavor. Delicious Horchata and absolutely amazing Pico de gallo.
Great food and will definitely come back. In particular their chips and guacamole are delicious, crispy tacos and plantains are good and their horchata is delicious. I agree they have they have the best mole but they skimp on adding the sauce to their burritos and flautas. Both were a little dry and there was so little mole sauce I couldn’t fully appreciate its taste. Plus it would have made all the difference in enjoying both these dishes. I asked for more mole for the flautas.
Burrito lacked meat. \nI got it to-go and it was cold by the time I started eating it just 5 minutes later.

Great atmosphere, nice scenery, nice staff, and that’swhere it ends. Most bland burrito of my life, a gas station burrito is better. The pozoles is low tier lacking any flavor; however, the barbacoa plate is not too terrible. $50 for 2 ppl and 2 dishes with a sodas
I had higher expectations for this place but i might have to give it another shot because my prawn burrito was good but my wife got sick immediately after and not sure if it was what she drank or ate but she even liked what she had as well so i will have to check this place out when i come back to town because ot seems to have potential..
Very expensive ($20 before tax) and below-average taste. I would say this is above average for the area but not enough to justify its cost. I generally have the enchiladas which are my preferred dish. The sauce is great, however the chicken, rice, and beans are often not cooked well and do not have a good temperature and texture. I do like how the food is spicy and flavorful. The atmosphere of the restaurant is nice with a great patio. If you are already here and are willing to pay $20+/pp I think this is a good spot, but I would go out of my way to come here.
I stopped in last night and got the chicken burrito. It's a pretty well put together burrito and the service was good, but there were two big problems. The first was that the chicken had the consistency of boot leather. This chicken wasn't well done, it was way overcooked and very dry. The rice was also pretty dry. Overall it was a burrito assembled well but using ingredients that had seen better days. Also the dining room is COLD.
Nice place with outdoor seating. Sangria wasn't very good. Small glass and served warm with small pieces of apple in it. Homemade tortillas and tortilla chips were delicious. Had the pozole which w…
I ordered a chicken burrito and it was rather ordinary. The chicken was a bit tough and not particularly flavorful. The rice and beans in the burrito also could use a little seasoning.

It’s never fun spending almost 50 for two burritos, 2 cans of coke and a street taco. It’s even less fun when there’s no cilantro, onions or hot sauce in burritos that come so cold, the cheese inside is still hard and not melted. I think the Bay Area lost its mind when it comes to food value. I went here cause the reviews were good but damn, I feel ripped off. The staff was super nice and great but, come on guys.
Good food. Authentic Mexican flavors. Service today was not good. It has been a struggle to get the order of food correctly a few times. We usually order flautas with mole, we add an extra flauta, 4 flautas in total. The gentleman who gave me my order to go went over all items and named the lettuce on the side as one item. When I arrived at home and opened the boxes, there was no lettuce for the flautas, and instead, we had what looked like menudo condiments. Like I said, this is not the first time they get the order incorrectly, so I will probably not order from here again. I tried calling, but they put me on hold and forgot about the phone call. I called once more and I asked for their manager. The man who answered refused to let me talk to their manager or even give me the manager's name. He hung up, and that was that. It is a little unusual because I was very polite when I asked for their manager's name.
I’ve had some great burritos here before, but this morning I ordered a breakfast burrito with chorizo and it was disrespectful what I was served. It was cold and wet, covered in sour cream dripping from the outside. Inside was mostly cold salsa with a tiny bit of egg and chorizo. Hardly any beans and no cheese. For basically $20, this was pathetic. A week ago I got the same burrito without chorizo and it was delicious, warm, cheesy with refried black beans. What I got today was an embarrassment and I’d like a refund frankly.
Mostly disappointing. The reviews I read sounded solid but I won't be returning. The chicken tacos were flavorful but laughably small. The fried fish tacos on the other hand were substantive but bland and even doughy.
I bought a fish taco today, but a majority of the "fish taco" was all batter only a tiny fish that was inside, but a majority of it was only fried batter and I'm very disappointed in that\n\nI also w…

I have tried this place multiple times and never had issue. I ordered veggie enchiladas today at 9 pm and someone has put extra spice intentionally in my food which made me heart burn and hardly able to breathe. One should sue this kinda nonsense who plays with the food regardless it’s spice level . They don’t know spicy food make the heart burn which lead to breathing issue.
I've enjoyed the food from this restaurant on many occasions. It's usually very good and very affordable. However, the last time I went to grab a burrito for a late lunch... it was about 3pm. I ordered a fully loaded burrito to go ($18 plus a $2 cash tip = $20). Got home and tore into the foil wrapped- torpedo shaped tube, took my first bite... and it was horrible! Did they make it using last week's leftovers? The rice was old. There was hardly any meat. It was horrible!- worst burrito I have ever tried to eat! I do not recommend ordering food 'off hours'- because you won't get their usual good quality food.
I went to La Mission the other day and I don’t know what happened, but this place fell off harder than a brick off a bridge . I dropped twenty-nine bucks. twenty-nine, for a burrito and a slice of cake. That’s half a car payment in some towns. The burrito had crunchy rice in it, like they cooked it in a pencil sharpener. And all the guac, sour cream, super sauce? It was all shoved down in one corner like it was trying to move out of the neighborhood. One bite dry as chalk, the other bite felt like a slip-n-slide with dairy. And here’s the kicker — not even a little side of chips or salsa to go. Nothing. Just me and a twenty-nine-dollar sadness wrap. At this point, Juan’s place and Berkeley Bowl burritos are running circles around La Mission. Shoot, I’d rather spend the money at Taco Bell and let my stomach roll the dice. La Mission used to be fire when I worked in Berkeley, I’d hit it every day for lunch. Now? Zero consistency. Hahaha but also la mission is just a solid 4/10. No side of chips or even a salsa to go is wild. But hey by all means, make your money. Just not mine.
Ordered a chicken burrito and added everything. I paid $19/$20 for a burrito and chips. My burrito did not have the guacamole or salsa I added, only cheese and sour cream at top left portion, and just rice and beans, hardly an meat throughout the rest of the burrito...very dry rice. It was 10:45 am, and not busy, no customers. I have came in past and liked crispy chicken tacos. Prices are raised, and portions not accurate and do not give extra add ONS paid for.
I have heard good things about this restaurant and was a little disappointed. I ordered menudo for takeout, the service was fast and friendly. When I got to my hotel room I opened the bag and found no utensils to eat my food with. That's not a huge deal, but very inconvenient. When I opened the bag I saw the container of soup and was pleasantly surprised by the size, but not the contents. There was hardly any meat in the container, mostly broth! And at almost $20 it's on the expensive side, as far as menudo goes. The flavor was good l, just wish there's was more to enjoy! I feel a little cheated.
Overpriced Mexican food that isn’t worth it. I ordered two regular burritos, and when I was asked if I wanted sour cream and cheese, I said yes — but I was never told that this would automatically make it a “super burrito” with a $4 upcharge on each one. The burritos themselves were mushy, poorly wrapped, and just not very good. Two burritos and two small drinks ended up being nearly $50. On top of that, they don’t include sauce, napkins, or even a small bag of chips unless you pay extra (probably about $7 more). Overall, not worth the money, and I wouldn’t recommend it.
i've had your mole before and it was excellent, last night. You gave me a plate that was dry and uninspired?I don't know how you get a hard enchilada. It was firm like it had been premade and frozen. You can do better. I'll give you one more shot and get it to eat there and if you're good on it, I'll remove this, but you didn't represent the culture or mole as a specialty at all, very disappointed.
I never regretted a burrito purchase until tonight… $20 for a burrito ($19.73 with tax), you gotta be kidding me… I thought at least it’s a hefty burrito, nope just wrapped up in two layers of foil. Like fully wrapped with two distinct sheets of aluminum foil. Unfortunately it appears that the same wrapping enthusiasm was missing during the construction of the burrito as it began to unwrap with the first bite and fell apart entirely by the end. The disappointments did not end there. They put salsa in the burrito, but you might be better off sucking on a handful of jalapeno seeds which probably have more flavor. Usually there is great reward with hot salsa as it packs so much flavor with the punch. This was just the punch again and again. Ask for the salsa on the side if you would like to taste your food. And you know what, I could let it all go if it was a $14 burrito but nope paid $20 for what exactly? What’s next? $30 burritos will be the norm before the end of the decade? This has to stop somewhere. So many good spots for a burrito in east bay and this is NOT one of t hem.
