But the colossal rotating mass of chicken speaks to you almost in a different language. The meat just seems better than anything you've seen up and down the street. Or is that just the imposing size? Any place that plans on serving enough shawarma to get rid of this gigantic beauty must mean business. Like first sampled at a nearby Jordanian restaurant Ruzana, Arabic-style shawarma ($7) seems to be taking over Bay Ridge. These sandwiches are served with the thin taboon or laffa flatbread popular in the Levant, crisped on the grill, and cut into sections. The fries ($2 extra on sandwich orders) are dusted with a subtle spice mix that makes them just a bit more enjoyable than most, probably not even needing the ketchup that sits at every table.

I visited this place on New Year's Day for dinner. It wasn't my first option to visit in Brooklyn, but the restaurant I wanted to visit and eat was closed for this holiday. I went after I read a lot of comments on google reviews. Some of them were really good and recommending this place, and others said the opposite. We gave it a try anyway, and I am so happy that we did. The restaurant was so busy, so the food was fresh and took more than 20 minutes to be prepared. That give you the assurance that they are working in order to complete your order. When we were served the food (al sham mixed grill meat), I was amazed and surprised by the taste. You can genuinely taste the genuine lebanese Syrian food. My stomach was extremely happy to start the New Year with the best place to do a grill in Brooklyn. The only thing i think it could be better is the fries, it was served a little bit cold but this thing can be fixed easily i believe by the owners. The atmosphere was also great since it is local business and not super fancy. You feel like you are eating in a local restaurant in Damascus or Beirut. The owner is so kind, and he is also a hard-working person for that I respect. He makes sure everything is ok, and when it is super busy, he joins his team in working hard to cut waiting times for customers. I am so happy that we have this kind of food and restaurant in NYC, and we are already planning to go back within the next two weeks. Highly highly recommend this restaurant. It won't disappoint you if you like Levant food. Great job, and 10 🌟

Truly authentic Shawarma and Hummus. If you haven't eaten shawarma from here then you haven't had it right. The best I've found on LI and NY. A bit expensive, but not in any way that's atypical to see in the area.

My little kids and sister-in-law from out of town were peering through the window and were stoked at the staff shaving the chicken off the vertical spit. The front lady saw us and through her generosity came out in the cold and offered us a platter of the sliced meat for free. I went back into the shop to leave a large tip. Bless her warm heart. I just ordered the kufta plate. Please excuse the picture...I already ate some...I was not planning to take pictures or have reviews. BUT, it is delicious, and the whole experience was perfect! So ok, I'm taking a picture and posting a review :) With 3 full legth skews, plenty of toppings, sides, sauces, and extras...then nice packaging, it is the most generous quantity by far compared to other few restaurants I tried, for the same price. And the variation of the sides is endearing. Everything is packed so nicely too. With few sauces on the side. The place is always clean and everyone is very friendly. I don't think they do orders according to who comes first, I think they take their time to make the orders as they need to be made. I rather the chef is relaxed and give me the results of that than stressed out about a few extra minutes. What more to ask for? :) Guys! I just tried their grilled burger combo....do yourself a favor and order it

The Chicken Shawarma sandwich was really good! The meat tasted really good but I'm not sure if it's how the sauce is generally stuffed but it was only on the ends. It would be good if the sauce was given along or sufficiently stuffed into the shawarma instead of just a little on the sides! Excited to try out the others soon!

This was my first time visiting New York, and I was really searching for a good, authentic shawarma spot in the US. Coming from Vancouver, where good shawarma places are limited, I’m always excited to try new flavors—especially in a big city like New York with a large Arabic community. I came across Al-Sham Restaurant and decided to give it a try with a friend. We ordered the chicken shawarma plates with fries. The food was tasty, well-presented, and clearly made with care. The flavors were good and satisfying. The only downside was that the price felt a little high for this type of food, but overall we enjoyed our visit and were happy we tried it. Definitely worth checking out if you’re looking for authentic shawarma in New York.

Our experience here was disappointing from start to finish. It felt like the staff didn’t even realize we were there. We ordered two chicken shawarmas, but the order wasn’t taken correctly. When the wrong food arrived, it was taken back to the kitchen, and we ended up waiting another 30 minutes—only for the order to still be wrong. The food itself was just okay; I’ve definitely had better. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend this place and won’t be returning.

To owner, please use actual garlic (toom) in your shawarma and not the awful mayo fake toom sauce you guys are using. This modification would make your shawarma sandwiches on point

I'm a regular at Al-Sham and have always enjoyed their food, but the service needs improvement. I ordered hummus and baba ghanoush only to notice when I got home that there was no Pita. This is a huge oversight. Now I'm stuck with an order of food with nothing to eat it with. As I said, the food is excellent, so this comment is more about attention to detail.

I went in at a time where it was very busy. Ordered a Chicken shawarma sandwich and a water. It was an odd experience because I almost felt like I was bothering them or interrupting. Several people came in after me and placed their orders, they all (including someone whose order was over $80) got their orders before my one/single sandwich made it to me. The sandwich was great and i’d order it again but probably to go or for pick up.

The shawarma was 5 bites. Not joking. I paid $18. I can’t believe how finessed I got. This should be haram. I was very upset.

Chicken shawarma sandwich was very small. It came with a sauce that I couldn't identify and one tiny piece of a pickle. It wasn't bad enough for a one-start review, but it was pretty bad. On the plus side, I ordered delivery to an unusual location, the service entrance of a car dealership. The driver came quickly, with no issues.

Alsham used to be a solid spot, but my recent experience was disappointing. I arrived at 7:58 PM yesterday and ordered a chicken sandwich. It took exactly 30 minutes to arrive, and unfortunately, it was dry and not worth the wait. The staff seemed disengaged, spending most of their time on their phones. This was a noticeable change from the warm and welcoming service they used to provide. Based on this visit, I don’t see myself returning and will share my experience with others. I hope the restaurant can address these issues and get back to the standard it once had.

Shawarma lamb sandwich was pressed like a panini , barely any meat and full of this sauce instead of having the option to add your own amount of sauce not at my NYC standards . My wife had the Chicken Shish Kebab sandwich also pressed , the chicken was so chopped up that it seemed more like a chicken shawarma instead of kebabs, flavor was okey , but whatever heavy mayo sauce overpowered the flavors and made it a very heavy meal . BTW it was $28 for (2) sandwiches they even charged up front 20% service charge , which if it was good food , it wouldn’t matter to pay, but in a place that didn’t even offer us water , unbelievable- not the real deal , other much better options close by in the neighborhood not here -

The service was decent but it took a long time to serve a takeout. Ordered 2 chicken shawarma entree, the chicken was extremely dry. Really not tasty. Wanted to give it a second chance, but how much i regretted. Never again. Over $40 to the garbage.

I didn't think the hope was that bad. The shawarma tasted like dry chicken and had no flavor. I saw him leave the shawarma on the fire until it burned and then cut it without letting it rotate and cook on low heat.

Shawarma was so dry, cooked with disdain for your clients. I assume you taste the food so you know it’s bad. Apparently it used to be very good and something happened to make it go downhill. All of the recent bad reviews attest to this fact. Be honest and explain. It’s disrespectful to charge so much money for bad food.

If you asked me 3 months ago what's your favorite place, I will say Al-Sham shawerma, a place I've been going to for the last two years almost 2-3 times a month. But recently, it's becoming so bad, to the limit neither me nor my friends are planning to go there, mainly because the service is so bad, all of the nice people who used to work here left, and majority of the new staff aren't good. The food is taking too long, even on non busy days, 50 minutes to get the shawerma plate is not acceptable! The quality of the dishes declined significantly compared to what I used to eat before. I feel bad for a place I used to like.

Incredibly disappointing meal. Half of our parties food came out at completely different times. Shawarma was dry and tasteless, the worst I have ever had. My friend’s falafel after waiting a long time, also was uninspired. Shocking given this places reputation in the past. Staff seemed generally unenthused and the vibe was very off. At the end of it all they add a service charge which one has to wonder why that is... Hope they can turn it around.

I ordered for pickup on Uber fully thinking that when I drove 35 minutes, it would’ve been ready. No! Instead they kept saying 10 minutes until an hour passed an and still no food, I went to ask “isn’t pickup priority? They proceeded to say it’s not and wait ten minutes. 20 minutes passed and people who are ordering in front of me are getting their food quickly. This is not a place I would go to or order from anymore. First and last.

If you have a takeout order, don't answer the phone. They say you have to wait at least 30 minutes for 5 minutes. I have experienced it personally. Unless the order is more than $20, please be careful not to take the order of the store. The attitude of the staff is very fast and unprofessional.

I ordered the super shawarma (which is $18) and an Ayran to eat in. All they did was throw it on a plate with a plastic fork instead of a takeout box, so why am I being charged an extra $4 for a service fee? And the Ayran that’s normally $1.50 is somehow $3 now. I ended up paying $25 total for one person, and for what? I even packed my own leftovers, so what’s this service fee even for? To top it off, the restroom was nasty. Zero hygiene. Good shawarma; however, their air conditioners don't work. It's an enclosed small space without any ventilation, so it's unbearable and unhealthy to eat inside, especially in the summertime. They take only cash, which is annoying for people who don't carry cash on them. I usually refrain from posting negative reviews because I work in the restaurant industry and understand the impact they can have. However, my experience at this place in Bay Ridge compelled me to write one. The food was average, nothing special compared to other local spots Arab spots! But what really stood out was the poor service. Initially, they mixed up our order. Then, it became apparent that they only accepted cash, which was not communicated upfront. The receipt suggested a higher price for card payments, included an added service charge, and they still expected a cash tip. Moreover, if you didn't have cash, you were directed to use an ATM within the restaurant. When I addressed these issues, the staff was confrontational and rude. I am considering reporting this to the food department and sincerely hope the owner takes notice and responds.

My friend and I went to this place today and ordered two chicken shawarma entrées at $20 each. Unfortunately, the chicken was very hard, and we weren’t sure why. Neither of us was able to finish the meal, and we ended up leaving most of the food on the table. We were also charged a total of $50, including tax and a service fee. I don’t understand why a service fee was added, and this wasn’t explained to us.

Place should be called A SHAME INSTEAD. Horrible and dirty. Not sure where to start but the food was so bad my partner and I haven’t had such bad food in years. The chicken was so dry and tasted old. They gave us salad that was clearly very very very old and tasted off. All the sauces and pickled veggies that came with the plate also tasted off. The rice that came the platter was cold and not fresh. Very disappointed. Also we were told to pay at the end and there was a service fee added to the bill which they told me I had to pay but it’s something that should have been disclosed from the beginning the law states that it must be disclosed on the menu. Overall if I could give no stars I would. It’s a waste of money. Also the girl working behind the counter used gloves to handle the cash / touched her phone and used the same gloves to fill in the condiments and handle the food. Disgusting. Take off the gloves if you’re not touching the food. What’s the point of wearing gloves ??????????????? Also no garlic sauce was given with my meal. They need to get it together.

Price on the expensive side consider the quality and the portion size. The store doesn’t see to know how to manage food waste which made sidewalk smelly and dirty a lot of time. Hygiene is not good.
