Unique spot with a great selection of sakes to choose from. The flights are definitely the way to get started. The staff were nice and informative and the food popup there was excellent. Really interesting experience that we enjoyed a lot.
Great sake, super cool owner. I miss the sake ice cream, make some more! On Fridays and Saturdays, they usually have a jazz band playing, that's cool. But at the end of the night, someone would kinda awkwardly go around with a Venmo QR code, stand in front of you, to ask for a tip, that's perfectly fine. But the whole thing is always so in your face, it makes me so uncomfortable 🤷♀️
Well worth the trip in from Manhattan. Easy access via the L. Imagine a hipster exploding and getting over everything. Well, it's this place. Excellent locally made sake, local jazz artists you've never heard of, and all walks of life. It's great. You should visit. Try the sampler to start then try everything else.
Oh man I don’t know where to start. Such an amazing community spot. What Shinobu and Ayako built here is truly amazing. From the amazing and well curated events (music, food, book clubs) to the incredible sake and cocktail program, I’m just constantly being blown away. I know Olive Garden already took it, but I really feel like KSW better embodies the motto “when you’re here, you’re family.” Met some of my best friends here :)
Kato is awesome. I don't have a ton of experience with sake, so we decided to give Kato a go, and the flights were perfect for learning more about the flavors we liked most. Atmosphere was comfortable, the staff (Avery) was incredibly welcoming and helpful, and the playlist matched the vibes. We'll definitely be back.
Very welcoming bar that supports the community. There's a pop up yakitori food vendor outdoors that has a wide range of choices. The flight of sake for $20 let's you sample three of their most popular types and I'm a big fan of their junmai. There was live jazz music the night we were there and the acoustics were pretty good.
Low-key, cozy sake bar and brewery in a spacious warehouse. The pricing is very reasonable and the sake is delicious, especially the junmai. Tasting flight with generous portion for only $20. The service is friendly and seating is generous. There was live jazz when we walked in - great vibes and very chill crowds.
Super cool spot! I was walking around checking out the neighborhood and found this place. They had the panels open, and the people at the bar just seemed so relaxed and inviting. It got me more intrigued to find out they make Sake in-house. I loooove Sake. Their Junmai here is excellent. Had a carafe with rice puff crackers. I didn't realize there was a music performance. Joni, who's also one of the brewers there. They had a mini platform as the stage, seating area for the audience. Great vibe. The bartenders are awesome and very knowledgeable. I'm rarely in this area and so happy to stumble on this spot.
So glad this place exists♥️ They have the most perfect selections of sake and great vibes. We got a flight and some sakes on top of that. Super reasonable pricing and every sake tasted AMAZING. Our favorites were the yuzu, nama, and junmai. Live music was also on point!
Love and highly recommend this place. The sake is delicious and approachable for sake newbies, the staff is super knowledgeable and passionate, and the vibe is chill and dog friendly. The brewery tour is a fantastic deal (it includes a few drinks) and super informative—they explain the process so well that by the end of the tour you’re left with clear ideas about how sake is made and various factors to look at when identifying sakes.
Come here after work for a quick drink. The awesome bartender will lead you through the menu. They are excellent at sake knowledge, the neighborhood, pairings, as well as other sake places. They are super friendly and the vibe is very chill. The green and gold cocktail was the best. Get the flight to taste the sake journey Some varieties are only available in the bottle but you might be lucky enough to get a sample. I can't wait to see what else they come out with. We ended up buying a few bottles and the prices are reasonable for the flavor and quality.
The sake is incredible, the vibe is super welcoming, and every person i’ve met at Kato has made my life better in some way. I feel inspired every time I go here - whether it be by meeting someone new, the amazing musicians they bring in, or trying a new food pop up. 5 stars!!
Can't say enough good things about this place. Shinobu Kato and his staff have something truly special brewing here. Tried the yuzu sake and mirin and both were absolutely delicious.
YES YES YES - Pop on into this hip joint and enjoy fresh brewed Sake from one of the few Sake makers in the USA! Enjoy a warm greeting from owner/brewer, Shinobu Kato, and a cool sake tasting. Learn about the different styles and methods of the world of Sake. TASTY! Cheers 🍻 Vern
I love this spot!!! The ambience is super cool, the sake is incredibly special, and the owners couldn’t be kinder. Try the flight so that you can sample several of their sakes - the experience is so memorable with the tasting cards provided. I can’t wait to go back next time I’m in town!
incredible sake with an amazing tasting experience. the tasting includes a super interesting tour of their brewery and process, as well as a light cocktail to start and 3 tasters (with 1 extra pour at the end). we learned so much about sake at Kato, I can’t recommend the tasting enough! big thanks to evan for being an amazing sake guide. don’t sleep on this awesome spot!
Small sake joint with very knowledgeable bartenders. (You rock, James.) If my closet wasn’t swimming in t-shirts I’d be tempted to go back for their merch as well. Highly recommend the flight to get the full experience. Come here in the summer for some free musical stylings from their neighbors ;)

Gorgeous place with amazing sake. Droplets sake is absolutely amazing. Jazz night on the weekend brings an amazing vibe.

Kato is fantastic. It's both an excellent introduction to sake and a place for experienced sake drinkers. And probably the cheapest place to get absolutely smashed on good booze in NYC. Sake is strong, and their carafes are well priced.
They do have some of the best cloudy sake. It is legit really good and I come to the area just for it. (Their Doburoku is the best). Sometimes they do have live music as well. I applaud to Whoever open this place as it is really good and such a nice departure from the usual beer breweries.
I travel all over Japan. Go back and forth regularly and travel around with locals. Ive been to Niigata and went to visit breweries to do tastings. Niigata is famous for producing the best rice and sake in all of Japan. They have nothing on Kato. I go to his bar regularly, order a glass, and listen to live Jazz. His sake is exceptional. You will not find better quality sake in Japan. You will only find similarities.

Such an amazing place ~ they have amazing sake and all sake-related products; the service is super wonderful; and they have so many amazing events / activities as well. Love it
Approximately ten limited and classic sakes are on tap, poured just like craft beer, under the concept of “born in Tokyo, made in Brooklyn.” A glass runs $12–14, while a carafe is $35–40. All sakes are brewed onsite. If the atmosphere doesn’t quite capture you, simply step next door to the craft beer bar—so either way, it’s worth the trip.
