Had lunch with family. The Beef Teriyaki was great. Service was excellent and food was hot and quick. Sushi was awesome.

A very nice sit down restaurant to take family or friends or both! The staff is always kind and accommodating, and the food is always excellent. Prices aren't too high, but it's fair if you would like an alternative to fast food but don't want anything too expensive!

It's not a fancy place, but pretty quiet. The food is good and the servers are friendly and attentive. I always have lunch a bit early to beat the lunch crowd.

I have been coming here since it opened and I have never been disappointed. They are very willing to change orders if you don't like spice or want all fish. The family boat is great!

Hello, this is what I would consider when looking. Should you try it? I say YES! Get off the freeway worthy? YES again! Good service and good food. We had salmon and Avo hand rolls (very fresh and tasty) a specialty roll that was great, and Teriyaki chicken for the kids (the best TC ive had anywhere, & consistent over multiple visits). Price is good too! If you are in the area looking, or traveling past the town, it is worth the drive off of the Interstate. I hope this helps you!

I really like coming here for lunch . The lunch specials are great the portions are a perfect size and I always order the curry chicken. The restaurant can get quite busy during the lunch hour but you can always order and get your meal to go . I also recommend that you order and pick up dinner on your way home after work.

My family and I enjoy the food here. The sashimi taste fresh. The sushi rolls are delicious. The soups are hot and comforting but be aware, it may arrive in a huge bowl. Our favorite appetizer is calamari. The variety of bento box meals are just as good. The interior of the restaurant is clean. The staff is courteous and friendly. We usually arrive when they first open to avoid the wait for seating.

We really enjoyed our 2 lunch bento boxes! Both the chicken and beef teriyaki were full of flavor and grilled to perfection. The teriyaki sauce was delicious - I even ate the bed of cabbage that the teriyaki meats were served on! The sashimi, California roll, tempura and salad were all fantastic. Service was quick and friendly. We will definitely be returning often!

Good service and good food! Quickly seated. Order was taken and food served in a very timely manner. We ate at about 6pm on a Saturday and it wasn't very busy. We had the family sushi boat and shared teriyaki chicken. Soooo good. We will definitly come back for more! Update.... Many yrs later. 😂 This is still our go to sushi place. Our favorites are the titanic roll, chirashi sushi bowl and today I had the beef teriyaki bento box instead of the chicken teriyaki bento and it was amazing. I will forever be getting the beef... Medium rare. So tender and yummy. Our only complaint is we hate they don't have soda on tap anymore. Ever since covid you get a can of soda and a glass of ice. We mainly go for lunch as I love the bento boxes with the variety it comes with. You do get bigger portions at dinner, but not the variety of items on one plate.

Even when short staffed, they are organized, polite and welcoming as every time I've visited. The food is as good if not better than most restaurants in Santa Cruz for their sushi combination platters in taste, appearance and portions. Worth booking a reservation or quick stop for a ramen bowl.

Wow what a little gem was very hungry driving back from Airport Saw this small place in a strip mall. Place was clean and inviting They had some great lunch specials and regular meals. Server was prompt and very polite. Order was quickly taken. Had a lunch special. I shared with my son and we had a extra roll. Turned out to be lots of food. But it was fresh and tasty. Will definitely be back to try other dishes.

The spicy Poke is very good...meets my standards of heat. Other tasty dishes to choose from. The flow of customers is consistent;Customers come in for take out and eat in. Food arrives rather quickly. Customer service is friendly they check on you frequently, which is a good thing. Well, they did with me anyways. It's not to expensive either. Have been coming here for almost 8 years and they never disappoint. Busy Friday night and there was great and attentive customer service! Not only did I feel seen, but I didn't feel as though I was bothering anyone when I asked for anything during our dinner tonight. It was great, and such a clean atmosphere. We ordered a lot of food tonight and were not disappointed with that or the wine! Thank you for all being friendly with the gluten free transparency and options.

The noodles are perfectly thick and chewy. The of strips of beef are well cooked and bite-sized. The broth has all the flavor! My go-to order for sushi is their Caterpillar Maki, and I add crab meat on top. It’s a shrimp tempura roll topped with avocado and crab meat. This is basically a Titanic Roll with Avocado instead of Salmon and Tuna. Sometimes the avocado is not the freshest, but definitely still delicious. I love how the shrimp tempura and crab meat come together. I also ask for spicy mayo on the side. I love dipping my caterpillar maki in this delicious, smooth and creamy sauce.

The environment was superb first time eating sushi here in Merced and it did not disappoint. I got the unagi Bentonville box and my mother got the teriyaki salmon and it was delicious the sashimi pieces they give you are huge and delicious. Everything about this place was fresh and delicious. Definitely coming back again.

Went to Sushi Ciu this past Sunday evening. The restaurant was packed but we were seated quickly. As is normal in a crowded popular during a rush, we did wait awhile for all aspects of service But the atmosphere was warm and cozy,, as we sipped our green tea , beer and talked. We ordered a selection of sashima, sushi, and sushi rolls. Normally I am not a fan of eel. Theirs was delicious. Tender,sweet. The portions of hamachi and salmon sashiMI were large and tasty. I liked them. My companion said he liked his tuna a bit more on the white creamy style. While large portions generally are well received, I was thinking it would have been better with a little less. We had a split opinion on the dragon roll. I liked it, my friend, not so much. The small staff was jumping and doing their best ,but service was a bit uneven. They could have used one more person. Decor and ambiance is lacking, did not color our opinion. The place was warm and cozy on a cold winters night, that was good enough. We will go back and try some more options.

Great food, big selection, clean and good, fast service! Would have been 4 stars but their selection of drinks was too limited. Every place should carry a good mineral or sparkling water. We don't all drink caffeine or sugar.

Everything was great. We had the bbq ika, chicken teriyaki and shrimp tempura combo, titanic roll, sunset roll and the cherry blossom roll. All were great. Had a bottle of to plum wine to share it was sweet and well priced. Wrapped things up a red bean ice cream which was also rich and delicious. 10/10 reccomend everything we had. Nothing disappointed.

Overall quality is good, and take-out service was quick courteous. The sushi rolls are pretty good, and the Nigiri is well-prepared but completely perfunctory. By that I mean it's just sliced fish on rice, with no interesting or extra flavors or flair (not even wasabi under the fish). Happy to find a competent sushi spot in Merced, though. It's nothing to write home about, but definitely good to have nearby.

One of my husband's and my favorite date locations. Sometimes we let the kids come with too... LOL. Really however, their food is always predictably yummy. I almost always get the teriyaki salmon and my husband almost always gets the teriyaki beef. We know what we like and we pretty much get what we like - we usually include some California rolls, wimps I know, tempura, soup, and every so oft, some tea, although I'm more of a coffee drinker. The smaller location is cozy, sometimes a little loud, but much more convenient for us, and the servers are almost always great. The bathroom is probably my only complaint, sometimes it's not working, or so crowded in there that with only one bathroom, makes it a little difficult. Otherwise, however, I totally recommend it!

The Sarada appetizer with tuna is awesome!! I add a side of rice and call it lunch. The food is 5 stars! I only give it a 4 because the restaurant is in a strip mall, so may not be for you if you are looking for nice ambiance. If that doesn't matter to you- go there!

Stopped by after an event at Merced High School. It is very convenient and easy to get to from the campus. The fish was fresh and tasted great. The rolls were a little loose and could have been tighter, they fell apart just a little to easy.

I like how comfortable and intimate the atmosphere is. Prices are competitive with other sushi places. Great display of food when served. Only downside was the food wasn't too flavorful unless you added sauce and the servers weren't too tentative. Overall a decent experience and would come to try their sushi again.

The food here is well prepared and service is acomidating for both small groups and large groups. However during the lunch rush it can get very packed in there very quickly, which slows everything down quite considerably. If you're looking for a quick lunch break from work, this might not be for you. But a perfect location for an outing with friends

They were packed, but it's small indoors. Super friendly staff. I was able to place a to-go order easily. The wait wasn't too long,, considering the phone was constantly ringing. The food was good and there was a ton of it.

I even had a sushi boat and that was good overall as well. The waitress was attentive and made sure to stop by here and there to see how we were doing. After eating - I didn't feel bloated or any discomfort from the food. I was happy with my meal and check came very quickly. The restaurant staffs actually work together so things were moving by a lot quicker. 4/5 Overall, as limited as it is here with sushi, I actually enjoyed this place and wouldn't mind coming back.

I've been here a few times, it's nice great taste .price is fair . Maybe today was just valentines day. But I wish they would cut their fish more professional it was way too thick and big like it's going on a grill.

I love Sushi Cuisine. They are best known for their sushi and bento dishes. The food there is delicious and satisfying. Their customer service is great and never had an issue with anyone yet. The atmosphere is suitable and calm, but some how busy. The reason for the three star experience comes from their ramen dishes. I'm going to be blunt, the ingredients do not taste, feel, or smell fresh. I have been to many ramen shops and have eaten plenty of ramen to know that Sushi Cuisine's ramen dishes are not fresh. They are a poor low quality imitation of a ramen dish. What I do not like is that Sushi Cuisine is pricing their ramen at a premium price. That is not ok. I highly recommend people to not order their ramen. This also begs the question, are the rest of their ingredients fresh as well or are they low quality? Let's be honest, Sushi Cuisine's prices are not cheap. If they are charging premium price for their items while their ingredients are of low quality then they are practically scamming everyone that buys from there restaurant.

Somehow their sushi became worse than Raley’s sushi and their service quality seems not good either. We ordered two rolls. Their first dragon roll was squeezed and looked like they used the mold. They did not served the second roll until we finish the first roll and a ramen. We asked to cancel the other roll if it was not ready yet. It came 5 second later—I guess they forgot to serve? Anyway not a good experience.

Been here couple of times and tried both the rolls and dinner combos but was not satisfied. There were not many choices for rolls, but the ingredients in the rolls are too similar, so it was hard to choose. The taste was only OK, and the raw fish was not the freshest (but I guess it's limited by our distance to the supply?).

The food was amazing, delicious and fresh!! The service from what seemed to be the owner was great as well but the waitress was rude and didn't seem to care about us. Even when she brought the bill she just dropped it on the table and walked away, because of this and price I'm not sure I'll be returning anytime soon.

On the decline. My wife and I have been customers for well over a decade. We've always praised this location, but it just hadn't been the same post-pandemic. Quality of the food has decreased significantly. We were most recently served rancid fish on our visit this last week. We'll be hesitant on going back anytime soon.

I had really high hopes for this place based off of other reviews- but I was extremely disappointed. I got the nigiri and it was awful, specifically the sushi rice was really bad. I’ve been to a lot of sushi places and they all add flavor to their rice and this place doesn’t. It’s super bland.

Had Cherry Blossom roll, the tuna was warmer than my usual tuna I get from out of town sushi spots. The rice in the roll was almost hard. Disappointed with the way they prepare, and notice what new and old rice feels like.

Came here for lunch. Very disappointed in the “food.” Stop giving this place a 5 star people. It is not a five star for what they charge. The rice was on the soggier side. Miso soup was almost cold. The restaurant environment is more fast pace and chatty, I don’t mind that at all. However, This place has no passion in making good sushi at all.

Update 8/25/19: I have changed my 4 star rating to 2. If I could give a 2 1/2, I would. Since my last review, I have continued to see customer service worsen. My family and friends regularly come to sushi cuisine and we love the food there. However, we have all noticed the service here isn't what it used to be when we first ate here. Not only have the workers (especially one male worker) messed up our orders, so has the owner of sushi cuisine. I ordered a to go and we were missing a few things from what we asked. We also noticed we were charged a lot more than usual. I know they have raised prices but not this much. We order the same thing everytime and come here 2-4 times a month. We have noticed the prices raise slightly but not this significant. Again it was the same male server who messes up our order who took my phone order. I don't know what is going on but I will definitely be asking for a different server, double checking the receipt/prices and not going here as frequently as before. Hopefully they will get better management and workers. __________________________________________________________ I've been going here for 5 years. It has been my go to place for sushi. However, in the past year, service here has gone down hill. I'm not sure if it's due to the somewhat new servers or management. There are two servers I don't particularly care for because they have continuously messed up my order or gave another customer my order. Both Turlock and Merceds locations atmosphere is nice, but the food isn’t the best it can be. Workers lack common sense. You don’t put a cold raw roll in the same box as a baked roll. It ruins the other roll. I was charged $30 for two rolls that didn’t even taste remotely good.

Used to be one of my favorite spots but a couple of times, I would get my sushi rolls very late. The last time I ask for an order of sushi rolls they gave the order out to another newly arrived guest. This is when I found out it was not first come first served.

Decided to stop in this university town to charge and have lunch... place was busy, service was good. Least favorite sushi my family ever had... everyone was very dissatisfied with the sushi's flavors or lack of it. Check your receipt before you add that tip or gratuity... my party of 6 was charged automatically with 18% gratuity... we weren't informed about this. If you weren't paying attention, you would end up paying ><50% on tips alone. The added tip suggestion is the total of your bill and the automatic gratuity. Is this even legal? $104.20 + $8.60- tax= $112.80 $112.80 + $18.76 (18% gratuity of $112.80) = $131.56 Added Tip $131.56 + $19.73 (15% gratuity of $131.56)= $151.29 Refer to posted photos *Tipping is never an issue with my family. Then I tried another kind and I immediately tasted bad fish. I thought I was going to be sick. I waited a minute then called someone to my table. I asked her to smell the sushi and she did.She kind of made a face.I told her, try another piece to smell, she did. She made the same face.She apologized and said their fish had just came in. And I told her she might want to check the rest and get ahold of her distributor. She agreed. I may go back to give that place a second try.

Came here with my daughter, my friend n her niece, we waited more than an hour fir our food n evev before getting our food the waitress brought us the bill, its a lousy place everyone who got here after us was getting their food before us. I dont usually leave reviews nor good or bad but this went over my expectation, food didnt have flavor n the chowmain with chicken teriyaki was burn.

My teriyaki sushi had bones in it I couldn’t even eat it. They charged me for a pack of soy sauce when I didn’t ask for one.

Valentine's Day started off so beautiful! After a long work day I was really looking forward to some sushi. My fiancé chose this place because of the high ratings. Got seated within 30 minutes when arrived at 7:30ish. The server was very nice and took our order as soon as we sat down. We ordered SUSHI DINNER COMBO. First got served 1 bowl of wilted brown sad looking salad and 1 cold miso soup. These bowls were tiny and they were on the house but I guess my fiancé and I were suppose to share it lol. Took 1 hour for our order to come out.So I tried the tuna rolls first. I picked up my sushi and dipped it in my soy sauce it completely fell apart(that should of been the hint from God to tell me not to eat it). Tuna was completely SOUR/BAD. The rice was HARD! I told the server about our experience. Her response,"sorry it was a busy day for us". THAT IS NO EXCUSE!!! Didn't dare to touch anything else served. Left the money on the table,left, and will never come back. Now I am missing work due to food poisoning because I have been throwing up all night and have diarrhea this morning with a fever kicking in. If I could give -0 stars I would. GO TO "KINGS ASIAN CUSINE" THEIR SUSH IS SUPHERB!!!

my family has been to this restaurant a number of times but last night the food made all of us sick. we had a bunch of nigiri and different rolls (as well as other stuff). not sure what it was but the maguro was pretty rancid tasting. couldn't eat it all or the spicy tuna rolls. when i mentioned it to waitress she just took the tuna rolls away and never returned.

This place is genuinely bad. The unagi was tough, the sushi was dry, and the ramen was basically top ramen "dolled up" with no flavor. Which is terrible since I asked for an extra spicy ramen, and all they did was throw some chili flakes in it. Honestly, it's the worse sushi/ramen place I've ever been to.

My child got food poisoning. She's not allergic to anything, but she had diarrhea.

I had sashimi over rice and 2 out of the 5 different fish were dry. One was tough. With 2 other dishes, the pork and chicken taste like they were sitting in blood too long before cooking, giving it a musky flavor/smell.

The food is okay for the town of Merced. They have very poor customer service. They recently (2 weeks ago) raised there prices. I being a local didn’t think to check the menu and placed my usual order, my waitress failed to inform me of the price inflation at the time of order. There were not any signs posted outside of the door, nor anywhere inside. The only reason I found out of the price inflex was when my bill came and I was confused. They are not friendly nor attentive with you unless it comes time to pay, they do not check on you mid meal, they have menu options with close names and do not check with you if that’s the item you are wanting, if appetizers are ordered empty plates are not picked up after you put them at the end of the table, they do not bring you the bill unless you get up and ask for boxes and your bill. You tend to feel unwanted, uncomfortable and an annoyance to them.

It saddens me to write this review, in fact, it is the first time I have ever took the time to post my feelings regarding my satisfaction on any goods or services I have purchased. If you are reading this and live anywhere close to Merced, California, you all know we are very limited in our dining choices, so when we find something we like, we are loyal to it. My issue isn't about food or service quality as both have been excellent since I found Sushi Cuisine almost 2 years ago. My issue is the honesty and integrity of ownership and management. On 7/6/2019, after another great meal, I received my check. I found that I was charged $12.99 for an item priced on the menu at $10.00. When I brought this to the waitresses attention, she checked with management, and said that she was sorry, but the price was $12.99 and the owner didn't update the price on the menu. She turned and walked away. I called her back asking that she adjust my already consumed purchase to the posted menu price. She said she was sorry, but she could not do anything. I signed my credit card for the purchase and included NO tip. I walked up to the counter to again ask that my purchase price be adjusted. I had 5 employees at the counter staring at me. I was again given a very polite apology and told that they could not do anything about it. I was told that the owner would be back in on Monday if I wanted to discuss. With my mouth wide open, I handed my waitress her tip in cash (not her fault) and left. I'm sad to say that I will never return. My $40.00 - $60.00 purchases every 5-6 weeks won't financially ruin them, nor do I want it to. But I would have to kick my own a$$ if I ever purchased from them again. It's not the $3.00, I can afford that. It's hard to believe that in this day and age, a business would not honor its posted price, especially when a customer makes a buying decision based on a posted price and then consumes it. I cannot return it for a refund (actually, I would be more than happy to return it to them, they just need to give me 12-15 hours) Thank you Sushi cuisine for making me take one step further away in my trust in humanity.

I ordered two different rolls and once I received my food they were the same rolls and I got told it was just me shrimp is shrimp you can’t confuse the simple tail shrimp is not crab and crab is not shrimp
