Excellemt food and location The staff is superkind Every year we spend some days or more in NY and we go almost every day to have lunch or dinner to Asuka Arrivederci
Enjoyed a lunch here around 1pm on a Monday. We were seated quickly without a reservation. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive, filling up water and tea, and adeptly removing plates as we finished the multi-course lunch. Top notch service, without the high price tag. The Japanese food was very good. Great chicken katsu, tempura, sushi. You can order from the set lunch menu or from the full menu. Clean bathrooms.
Really cool, modern vibe, extremely fast and friendly service and the food was delicious. I had the happy spider roll and the miso soup and it was a great flavor combo
I would say the best Japanese/Thai restaurant I've been to in the Chelsea area. Price is reasonable and the servings are huge. I just wish the salad bar has more options, but other than that, everyone was happy for what we ordered. For dessert, highly recommend the chocolate mousse cake. Servers are friendly too.
Everything about Asuka Sushi is great. The foot is really good, the service including hosts / greeters are awesome. The food comes fast. It’s a fantastic value. And, the vibe is very fun and very New York - on any given night you feel like every slice of NYC is at a different table. Love it!
I came here with three friends and even though we made a reservation, we ended up needing to wait an extra fifteen minutes. But the service was good and our meals came out pretty quickly. I got the spicy scallop, spicy salmon, and coconut tempura roll. Haha it was a bit too much for me but I almost finished all of it because they were also so good!! My friends were all happy with their meals which included to two different specialty rolls (can't remember which one's), the sashimi entree, and the pork donburi. Also got the steamed vegetable gyoza which were great. We were all really happy and satisfied at the end of the meal. A good place for groups!
A great local gem! We had a great experience celebrating a friend‘s birthday. The restaurant went above and beyond, and made sure that our little group with a toddler was well situated with great service the whole time. Large portions food, delicious, and unpretentious.
Asuka Sushi has excellent service, good food, and prices that are so low for Manhattan that you worry something must be off about the whole thing. Maybe there is. Maybe this inexpensive sushi restaurant is just a Yakuza front. They don't seem to let that impact the quality of their product or service. I'll be back.
The lunch specials have lots of tasty sushi and thai options. While the food is consistently good, I come here every week because they remember me and treat me like a welcomed guest. This is the type of high quality authentic service that I look for when dining out.
I was hoping that this place would be so much better than the old sushi restaurant I used to buy from. I was not disappointed. From the kindness on the phone to the takeout being delivered i was just in awe. I ordered takeout for their lunch special and the amount of food that came in the bento box was great. Two things I would change is the sauce the chicken teriyaki comes in. I’m not used to having sauce that’s really watery, it’s usually a thick glazed sauce. The other would be the amount of cucumbers they put in the Shrimp tempura. It was way too much, it’s usually avocado in it and the way they make it didn’t consist of any. Despite those two things, I would definitely recommend. The menu is full of varieties so you can easily order anything.
I’ve been to several sushi places during my 4 months in New York so far. This place is the best out of all of them. The service is crazy fast, the food is always 10/10. I’ve been here several times now and it’s always incredible.
Excellent! There were 6 of us for a friend’s birthday dinner. Everything everyone ordered was delicious. Loved the ‘Heartthrob’ sushi roll. Best pork gyoza dumplings ever. Top notch service. AAAND, the size & ambiance of the restaurant is perfect👌 -> hip, lively, & not too big. And very affordable.
Asuka in Chelsea is hands down the best local sushi spot in the area. The quality and freshness of their sushi are unmatched, making it a go-to destination for sushi enthusiasts. With each visit, you can expect an exceptional dining experience. One of the standout aspects of Asuka is their generous portion sizes. The sushi rolls and sashimi servings are impressively large, ensuring that you’ll leave fully satisfied. It’s a place where you definitely get your money’s worth. The salmon sashimi at Asuka is absolutely incredible. The fish is impeccably fresh, with a buttery texture and delicate flavor that melts in your mouth. It’s a must-try for any salmon lover. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, Asuka is a hidden gem in Chelsea that shouldn’t be missed. The combination of high-quality sushi, always fresh ingredients, and generous portions make it a standout sushi spot. Give it a try and prepare to be amazed.
My favorite Manhattan Japanese restaurant. Nice Lunch Specials available M-F and sushi is always a favorite. Brown rice available for a small surcharge. Generous portions. Service is always prompt and courteous. Other great lunch specials include Bento Boxes and various rice and noodle options. Great ambience. Perfect corner spacious location. Clean and charming!
The food was fresh and delicious. This was the first time my wife and I visited this location. I was very pleased with the food, relaxed atmosphere, and attentive staff. I am not really the type of person that drinks green tea but I found myself drinking it freely during our visit. Prices were reasonable given the great quality of food and location. We will surely return the next time we are in the mood for some good sushi.
The food is excellent. The sashimi was of high quality, generous cuts and beautifully presented. The hijiki salad was delicious and could easily be shared by two people. The eel avocado roll was delicious. The miso soup was very good. Service was prompt and professional. This was our second time at Asuka Sushi. We will be back.
Honestly one of the best sushi experiences I've had in the Chelsea area. Each roll was delicious and the service was so prompt I could hardly believe I received it as fast as j did. Additionally the vibe of the restaurant is great, definitely felt very hip. One massive thing I loved about their menu was that they clearly distinguish between real crab and imitation crab. I hate getting excited about a roll that has "kani"...only to be disappointed when I ask if the crab is real, only to learn it's imitation. Here they offer real crab...a huge plus. I'll definitely return to sample more rolls. I highly recommend the heart throb rolls...outstanding.
Was looking for a place for dinner with the wife and stumbled upon this gem. We were visiting from MD and love trying new places when we get the chance. Absolutely love the good and the service! Even though we came a little late they were still very welcoming and full of smiles. The sushi was second to none and wish we had more time to come back and try more of their menu. Prices are not too high but not cheap but with the quality the price was very reasonable. Definitely recommend!
Ordered for pickup and everything was nicely organized ready a couple minutes early which worked well for me. I got a couple special rolls that were really good although I think the salmon avocado roll was the best. Fresh and delicious. The salmon pieces were high quality and the avocado fresh! I perhaps ordered a little more than I needed so it came out a little expensive but it was great.
Service is great. Miso soup is good (had better) but it’s decent, sushi rolls are always fresh and very good, certain rolls may have a bit too much rice to my taste, but I generally really like it and always come back! Also, they have a great variety of a selection which is really one of the reasons I always want to come :)
Simply amazing, it's been a while since I've enjoyed sushi so much! Sushi rolls 8 pieces, wakame salad was big and the gyoza were so good. Impeccable service, delicious food and very reasonable prices. Lucky enough we were there when happy hour! Included cocktails, wine and beer. Honestly would go again and again.

I have come back to nyc wanting to have tempura here again and was not disappointed. Just fantastic, large portion snd wonderfully fresh. My wife had sushi rolls also very fresh
This dependable japanese fusion restaurant in Chelsea offers a good range of sushi and other japanese food at reasonable prices. Not only do they have the standard set of nigiri, sashimi and rolls, but they also have well prepared "special rolls" and teriyaki offerings. This is also a good place to get a bottle of sake over some light fare. Prices are extremely reasonable for Manhattan, though it can get rather busy on weekend nights. Reservations are recommended, though you still may incur a bit of a wait.
i ordered their tri-color sushi (salmon, tuna, yellowtail). out of the three, i enjoyed the yellowtail the most, as it was extremely fresh and tasty. their salmon was also good. i also had their miso soup, which was pretty standard, and ordered another yellowtail maki after having tried the different fish. i’d recommend against the tuna, which was a bit mushy in texture and didn’t taste particularly fresh. my only other qualm is that the rice was a bit mushy and didn’t have the perfect sushi rice “elasticity” or bounce? but all in all for sushi at this price point it’s not bad and can fill that craving if you’re feeling cheap sushi
Nice portion size, especially for the Chef’s rolls. We ordered a delivery and everything was made quickly. The only reason I’m giving 4 starts is because not all the ingredients were listed for the Specialty rolls, and upon delivery turned out that I can’t have one of those rolls. I wish I knew that before so I could order something else instead.
Overall a pleasant lunchtime experience for about $15 before tax and tip, and just water to drink (a lemon wedge included, a nice touch!)There was a $1 upcharge for brown rice. The salmon bento box came with a small salad with a thin, watery flavorless dressing, and an equally plain miso soup. Neither was bad, just not tasty. The California roll and dumplings were good, as was the salmon, and 3 fresh broccoli florets. The dining room is large and dark, with ample spacing between tables. My window seat had sufficient light despite the scaffolding outside. Overall, you can't go wrong for the money. Service was very pleasant and efficient. I would definitely consider eating here again for cheap eats. I hope they step up their salad dressing and miso soup game just a bit. But then again, restaurants are definitely struggling in this economy and cut corners wherever they can. Try it for lunch. You really can't go wrong!

Great find when looking for lunch with a friend visiting. Lunch bento box was great & so affordable! Staff was attentive..Can't wait ho go back next time I am in the city!
The food was good but the service was not. I sat there for a good minute not eating and looking dead at the waitresses to ask if I could order something. They stared at me the whole time and was aware that I was waiting and made no move to provide service. I had to get up to pay because I decided to leave. And they saw I was openly irritated with how I was being treated and decided to try to compliment their way out of my annoyance. I dont know what was going on, because they provided service to other guests better than they did to me. I wasnt rude to them or unkind. The behavior was weird.
I really appreciated the outdoor seating area, the wait staff was nice and in terms of service I have no real negative opinion. The takoyaki(5) were pretty big, tasted great — I think we ordered shrimp rock? I don't remember the proper name but they were fried bite sized shrimp and they were okay. We ordered two beef Ramen bowls and sushi, the sushi came after the Ramen so that was kinda weird. The Ramen reminded me of the beef bowls I use to get in Flushing — almost like soup Then I realized, the food being served here in conjunction with the prices aren't for people like me who are use to eating this food. The outdoor eating area goes against why they can charge the prices they do — this place is an experience, the inside w/ the waterfall? That's $$. I understood this after we finished eating. I think the venue looks great and the vibe on the inside makes it feel like a special experience and I respect that, but I didn't enjoy myself. Please go and experience this place on the inside, and prove my time their wrong! Left a good tip tho!
Positives: Good pricing for the lunch special. For $14.95 you get three roles and a soup or salad. The servers are nice and quick. Negatives: Sushi is not that good. It’s fine. But, the rice is a bit mushy and the fish not that fresh. (I might have visited in an off day for the restaurant. Note this review is based on only one meal).
I’ve been a loyal customer for years with their take-out because of their price and sushi. But lately their food has been mediocre and not only that but they’ve been getting my orders either wrong or missing sauces. And it’s like they just pack the food carelessly because the soy sauce came opened and spilled all over inside the bag today. The other time the salad lid was not closed and came all spilled out. Also I ordered the salmon roll, instead got a California roll. You would think they would treat a loyal customer better, but guess not. Time to take my business some place else.
I pre-ordered on grubhub using the "order again" function. They called me the next day to tell me they couldn't fulfill the order due to my substitutions. I called them to tell them they had done it before (taking time out of my work day to do so). The lady once again told me they couldn't to which I explained it had been done before and I simply clicked "reorder." After speaking with the chef, they agreed but said it would be an upcharge and I agreed. I ended up having to work late and wasn't going to be home in time for the delivery (and I was having it brought to my door instead of leaving at the lobby) so I contacted grubhub who told me I was better off calling the restaurant. I called and explained and the lady said no problem, they could tell them to leave at desk instead of bringing upstairs. They proceeded to charge me $4 dollars for this (which isn't a lot but its the principle). So what should've been a $30 tops sushi order cost me $57. This is outgrageous.
This is a review of a takeout order that I had this evening. The miso soup was not up to stuff: very little substance in it. More importantly, I had ordered two pieces of freshwater eel sushi. Their preparation was terrible. The pieces were gnarled, and one was almost inedible. I felt as if the chefs had picked two pieces out of the cuttings and simply put them on a piece of rice.
Asuka has been a reliable takeout spot for the past 1-2 years until recently. My last few orders have tasted very poor and not fresh despite also increasing the price on the three roll special. I’ve been a loyal customer, but unfortunately will not be ordering from here anymore.
This was hovering between a 3 and 4 for us. The food was really good. We had a starter with edamame and tempura (zucchini and shrimp). The main we had a mixed sushi/sashimi, which was good, though…

So disappointed—-The teriyaki salmon was over cooked and dry. It has very few veggies with it and the sauce was bland. Very bland.
We ordered take out. It was expensive. We ordered: Spicy California roll- very good Peanut avocado roll- very good Miso black cod appetizer - not very good. Little smelly Spicy Thai fried rice- wasn’t spicy. It’s okay, if that much spice wasn’t there, it would have been very bland. Also they charged a $1 for spicy mayo sauce with the sushi!! That’s very expensive for those small containers. Then you should put it on the menu. Don’t charge it later on.
Went here for lunch on recommendation of Google reviews. I don't understand why anyone would ck.e here, everything we ordered was mediocre at best, I've had supermarket sushi and gyoza better than here. Even with the lunch special pricing special I can't recommend this place. The service was also very mediocre, a bit rude depending who was serving you but that we could overlook if there were any redeeming qualities in the food.
Ordered take out. The last couple times it was not great, but I decided to keep giving it a chance but no longer the shrimp tempura tasted like the grease in the pit and the presentation on delivery was messy. There was no flavor.
Nice place with nice servers. But the food is very mediocre. Had the $19 sashimi weekly special. Total of 6 tiny pieces with horribly balanced sauces. Had salmon avocado roll that was also mediocre. Suspect it’s a Chinese restaurant masquerading as a Japanese one

Food was god awful, sushi got there warm. Delivery took close to 3 hours. It was actually disgusting.
I’ve been here once before and was fine. Ordered it last night and am now confined to my bedroom and bathroom. Never had food poisoning until now. Not sure if it was just a bad batch last night. Not feeling good right now.
Worst sushi of my life. Worst service ever. Tips are mandatory, not acceptable!!!
My wife and I used to order from asuka regularly. We live 3 blocks away and it was our go to sushi spot. Earlier tonight my wife got the yellowtail avocado roll and the fish was a sickly grayish color and smelled terrible. The salmon jalapeno roll also tasted like the fish had gone bad. When she called to ask for a refund the person she spoke to said it was impossible to give a refund and said they would give us a credit that could only be used on those exact 2 rolls. After receiving rancid fish my wife did not want to chance those 2 rolls again. When she said she would go through seamless and attempt to get a refund from them Asuka was miraculously able to give us a refund (funny since it had been "impossible" a minute earlier). We still have not received the refund. I wouldn't be leaving this review if Asuka had just refunded the money or offered us a different roll of equal cost. I'm leaving this review because of the poor way this was handled and because the person we spoke to outright lied to us. Attached is a photo of the yellowtail roll. Pretty sure the fish isn't supposed to be that color
Ordered for lunch today and the tuna was a grayish color and tasted horrible. Only at kne piece out of my roll and next thing I know I have to leave work early because I got food poisoning. I’m so upset and disappointed because I loved this place and am a sushi lover but clearly it’s not worth it. Save your money and stomach and order from somewhere else (recommend happy tuna)!!!
