I've been going here for years, and have always enjoyed their great food and impeccable service. This past weekend was no different! Even short staffed, and dealing with all of the pandemic restrictions, Mike and the crew were able to provide a great level of service and make us feel like we were at home. Very happy to see MJ's pulling through these rough times!

I live in the neighborhood and have been going here for over 10 years. This is one of the best, if not the best, steakhouses in NYC! The staff has always been top-notch & the food is amazing. Whether sitting at the bar or in the dining room, you get a consistent 5-star dining experience.

We are on our first visit to NYC and in-laws brought us down to Seaport Village for dinner and shopping. Much to our chagrin the area at pier 17 was closed for remodeling and construction. Asked a few of the locals for a place and consulted Google maps and found a place that we wasn't really what we were looking for. The waitress there recommended Mark Joseph's and after going down a block too far and getting new directions we found it. I immediately thought it was like something you see in a NYC movie. The service from our waiter was amazing and the food was equally as good. Our appetizers were all amazing, steaks perfectly cooked, and the sea bass was equally as tasty. Had the Mark Joseph special for dessert....awesome. Wish they would've maybe had a local small brew beer available but the Sam Adams Summer Ale was really good. If you live in the area and haven't tried it you're missing out and if you are visiting look them up.

My wife and I have been patronizing MarkJoseph for over 5 years now and they never disappoint. The food is great and the staff is welcoming and attentive. The ambiance is what enhances the experience. They're signature steak sauce is a winner. I order a couple of bottles per visit.

We LOVED the food, service, and ambiance. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we had an unforgettable dining experience. Such a delicious romantic dinner here. Our server was on point & professional. Will definitely return- Highly recommended! Ps- don’t miss out on the thick cut bacon!

Amazing steakhouse! If you’re looking for an old school place for seafood and chops, this is your spot. It’s also so close to a lot of fun spots in the Seaport downtown.

Always have an awesome dinner here. Very elegant place, and excellent service. A bit pricy, but on par with other steakhouses. We went on restaurant week and paid about $55pp for a solid portion of appetizer, dinner, and dessert.. Definitely need to try the Bacon!!

I have been @ M.J. - Steakhouse in 2002 during my NY weekend with a friend. Porterhouse Steak was a class of its own + excellent service!! Now in may 2023 again i remembered this fine dining address and me and family (for them 1st time) were excited what to expect after almost 20 years: we were completely satisfied again - Porterhouse Steak is high-quality + the service is very good. What else do you want for a perfect dinner? NY has many attractions - M.J. Steakhouse is a hot tip for Steak lovers!! We will return definitely again. Many greetings from Alex + family (Germany) on vacation !!!

NYC is loaded with great steak joints. This one just hit on all points. Seafood stack was great, so was the wine list for cabs. I'll be coming back because on top of everything else, my group of 8 clients didn't feel like being all stuffy as we just wanted to get rid of our stupid suits and eat after a long day of business meetings. It really is a good place "all in"

Me and my family went for Restaurant Week, and everything was great. We enjoyed everything, the service was fantastic, good music, and such a cool, nice vibe. The steak I had was DELICIOUS and so good, the salmon was DELICIOUS as well and we had the mussels, which were pretty good too. The servers were so generous and nice. Definitely recommend going. Very expensive though.

We traveled from Florida to see our son who moved to NY in March! He fell in love with Mark Joseph’s and wanted to take us there. The atmosphere was lovely. We ordered the Bang Bang Shrimp and calamari appetizer. The Waiter stated that you only get 3 shrimp so we ordered the calamari, the shrimp were ginormous! The apps were very good only critic would be the dredge was not seasoned so I had to salt it a bit. We had a delicious bottle Of Chianti and our water glasses were always kept full! The Five of us had the porterhouse steaks with sides and the steaks were cooked to perfection! Really lovely meal! Thank you

Cool spot with very well made steaks. Zero grey band on 6 steaks. Staff was fun and had solid recommendations on wine. No frills, simple, good quality. Would go again.

Had a great experience, went there with a couple of friends to celebrate a new job. Our server was very knowledgeable, she helped us order just the right amount of food. We ended up ordering the porterhouse for three and a 50oz tomahawk as our mains. We started with bacon strips and a few sides. The whole staff were friendly and attentive. Great experience will definitely be coming back.

Had a fantastic time at the bar, chatting with the bartender, Mike, and with the other patrons. This restaurant has a great neighborhood feel to it, despite being right in lower Manhattan. We started out with the scallops and spinach appetizer, which was fantastic, if slightly on the small side (something Mike helpfully mentioned, before we even considered asking). The seasoning and sear on the scallops was superb, and shows a chef with great control of their cook surfaces. My first clue that this place was special came when I ordered my steak rare, and they asked me how rare I wanted it. What's even better is that the resulting steak was a perfect match to my request. The steak was perfect. Flavorful and melt-in-your-mouth tender, with a nice thin sear line. I have had a lot of good steaks, but this was easily the best meal of my life. The house steak sauce is a sweet variant, that seems like it would make an excellent glaze for chicken, but using it on a steak this good would be blasphemous. They should license it to more mediocre steakhouses. The overall atmosphere, service, and food easily justified the check at the end. We spent around 3 hours in the restaurant, split a nice bottle of wine, and had a very thorough dinner for two, with leftovers, and spent $250, including tip. Normally I would be shocked by that amount, but instead, I'm thinking of going back this Friday for seconds.

We were able to be seated with out a reservation. The service was very nice and attentive. We ordered clams casino and they had great flavor and the ratio of ingredients were very good! The filet and the cowboy were also very good. The cook was perfect. The filet was very tender and the cowboy was packed with flavor. There were some big groups so it seems good for large parties.

The food and service were phenomenal. My daughter and I had dinner with one of my friends...started off with an excellent salad. My daughter and I had a Porterhouse steak for 2, cooked perfectly. My friend had seared tuna, also cooked perfectly. We had three sides, mushrooms, asparagus and steak fries, all extremely tasty. Finished up with cheesecake with berries and whip cream...definitely going back!!!

Excellent food! Excellent service! I wish I can give them 10 stars I love this place! I’ve been going here for over 18 years but last night was the first time I’ve been there since after the pandemic and they knocked it out of the park. Many of my favorite places downgraded their quality post Covid. But not Mark Joseph’s This place is the hidden gem of NYC. The Quality, cleanliness, ambience and price are unmatched by any steakhouse on the Island of Manhattan… and believe me I know I’ve lived here my whole life and go out to eat very often. Thank you Mark Joseph for an excellent meal and experience as always!

We arranged to meet several long time friends in the South Street Seaport area and sought out a seafood food restaurant where we could enjoy oysters on the half shell. Despite its maritime appelation, the Seaport lacks a great, full service seafood restaurant or even one that pretends to be so. So, so sad! After thoroughly scouting the entire area, we came across this restaurant which offered oysters on the half shell as well as many other seafood appetizers and entrees. The oysters were perfect -- fresh, plump and sweet. They were served with a mound of grated horseradish so that we could adjust to season of the accompanying sauce to our liking. We also had the lobster bisque and seared scallops which were excellent. Mike, the restaurant's host, was very attentive as were the waiters. The ambiance was excellent. If you love seafood and are in Seaport area, this is the only place to go to. I have no doubt that the steaks would be excellent as well and we will go back another time and enjoy the meat entrees.

Excellent service from beginning to end. This restaurant is a pleasant surprise, I have passed on this street before and never noticed the establishment. The decor and ambiance once you enter is amazing. I participated in Restaurant week and all the food my friend and I ordered was delicious 😋. Hugh our server that day provided impeccable service. I am thinking of an occasion to visit this restaurant again. I am still thinking about my perfectly prepared steak.

Met a few friends for dinner. Nice beer selection. We ordered a variety of apps, all were excellent. Steaks cooked to perfection and good sides. I would highly recommend a meal here. The servers were all top shelf too.

I must say....a truly satisfying dining experience. The service is warm and welcoming. I get the feeling that the staff knows their diners well. Cocktails are pretty good and the scotch and wine selection even better. Decor is dated but it reminds me of Christmas....it feels like your sitting in the living room of every one of your favorite 80’s and 90’s Christmas movies and I love it. Now the food.....love or hate this place the food is amazing! The scallops are cooked so perfectly, the seafood platter is amazing, the steaks are cooked perfectly. I just have no complaints about this place.

For 20 solid years I've been going to MarkJoseph's Steakhouse. The owner, managers, hostesses, waiters, and busboys are top notch. I've never had a bad meal there - and honestly over time - they've become like old friends who are always wonderful to see and chat with when dining. Here's to many more years of serving up great steaks and conversation!

We couple had Peter Luger just last month. MarkJoseph here is also great at dry age steaks, has great bacon strip, and wonderful service and atmosphere. Today we had restaurant week lunch choices of sirloin 14oz and filet 8oz. Both great and we shared both tastes. Of course median rare.

Excellent evening here. Have been wanting to dine here for sometime now, special occasion and did not disappoint. Service is excellent,we enjoyed the porterhouse for two and the Caesar salad for two as well. The steak was cooked perfectly, arrived hot and could not have been more tender. I would have given the food five stars but the salad was good but lacked anchovies and fresh parmigian. The cocktails were excellent, a vodka martini and cosmo perfectly fit the bill. Desert, key lime pie was scrumptious. We will most certainly return, prices are reasonable and the value is certainly there

A bit crowded during restaurant week, but the food was delicious! The steak was delicious - they pre cut the sirloin before serving. I ordered mine medium rare and my husband ordered his rare and it was nice to see they got the difference right! Also got the bacon for an appetizer and it was really good.

Classic NY steakhouse in the South Street Seaport- had the T-Bone which came sizzling and sliced and it was cooked to perfection with the toasted ends- lobster bisque was similarly spot on and abundant for a starter. Creamed spinach was also 10/10

MarkJoseph is a quality steakhouse in Lower Manhattan. We started with the thick cut bacon appetizer and it was very flavorful. We split the Porterhouse amongst the 3 of us and it was the perfect amount of food. The creamed spinach was good and the steak fries had a nice crisp to them. I’d definitely recommend an espresso or some sorbet after your meal.

MarkJoseph is the best steakhouse in downtown Manhattan, in our opinion. This establishment has been around for close to 25 years and makes amazing steaks. I've had dinner here on three or four occasions over the years and always have had great experiences. Today, I stopped by for a glass of wine and a cappuccino while I was waiting for an appointment. The service at the restaurant was fantastic as usual. If you're looking for a special steak dinner downtown, MarkJoseph is the place to visit!

Mark Joseph is a quintessential location for a higher end steakhouse experience- I came here during restaurant week and dined on their 59 dollar menu. For my appetizer I had the lobster bisque as was recommended- it had small chunks of lobster with a nice deep lobster flavor, it's served with fresh black pepper. For mains, I had the Sirloin Steak, it's served on hotplates so be careful. I asked for medium rare but some of the steak pieces remain on the hot plate, so cooking times and doneness varied a bit, but was nevertheless very good. The dessert was a mini brownie sundae, seemed pretty simple and nothing special. Multiple servers came to prepare each course.

Iman Hosseini

Top notch steakhouse. I'd rate it above Wolfgang's, Charlie Palmer and even Benjamin's. Polite staff, great food and a perfectly charred outside which contemplates the juicy, decadent inside of the meat.

Juan Lima

We went here for their restaurant week promotion. The only steak house offering a 14 oz cut of steak with no additional cost added to your tab. The sirloin steak was delicious and came with creamed spinach and mashed potatoes. Can't really beat that on top of a free appetizer and a dessert. We added a bottle of wine recommended by the waiter which was fruity and sweet, fantastic. He told me to grab the steak and eat it like a caveman. I told him, eating at a steak house requires a certain etiquette, so he brought a cup full of hand wipes and said your paying... do whatever you want!

The bartender Mike is great. He is very friendly and helpful. Made many good recommendations for food. Also, great dirty martinis 🙏🏻 their fries are delicious and the steak sandwich which you can only order at the bar or lunch is fantastic. Also, I recommend the thick cut Canadian bacon. So good

The most recent NYC Restaurant Week lunch was a great deal, even if it didn't include an appetizer and dessert. I got the sirloin and it was great. Pair that with the $8 house wine and you're all set. The waitstaff was fantastic and friendly. Would highly recommend even without the deal, been here a few times and the food has never disappointed.

L

MarkJosephs has been around forever and is a staple of the Seaport. The food is good but could be much better. It took about 7 minutes for a server to touch the table and for $60/person steaks and $20 cocktails, it seemed a bit long. Would also love to see more of a beer selection!

L
Lina E Krakue

It was a good experience. Although afterwards I realized that the prices online were not updated. I had the lobster mac and cheese my friend ordered the tuna tartar which had a beautiful sprinkling of herbs the bread was a bit to toasted the salmon was great also. The portions were a good size. They sang happy birthday to my friend!

T
Tiffany Lee

Wonderful steakhouse done in a rustic style. We came during Restaurant Week, so we had a nice set meal (great selection for restaurant week). The steak was buttery and tender, the sides were flavorful and decent portioned. The steak tartare wasn’t amazing, it was a bit bland. The lobster bisque was creamy and had a nice seafood flavor. Overall, it was a great experience and would love to come again. Service was nice and friendly! They seat only when your party is completely here, so make sure everyone is on time.

Solid local steakhouse More approachable than marketed, it’s not a suit and tie place Wines selection is wide and friendly priced Listen to the sizzle

S
Samantha Melendez

This was our favorite go-to spot for simple anniversary dinners, and I especially loved their dinner rolls. However, the quality of the food has gone down as of this year, and they no longer have the fresh baked dinner rolls. It makes me sad to see that one of my favorite spots change. The food was average for a steak house. It's good for the service and atmosphere if you like the ambiance for a romantic dinner.

D
Dominic Pitts

I'm torn... The filet mignon was excellent—beautifully seasoned, cooked just right, and a true pleasure to eat. What left me genuinely disappointed, however, were the mashed potatoes. At $13, I expected something worthy of a steakhouse staple. Instead, I was served what unmistakably tasted like instant potatoes—straight from the box. For me, that's a letdown that's hard to overlook.

J
James Archival Cava

lovely ambience, porterhouse steak was soft and delicious and the halibut also was rich and meaty. We also had the canadian bacon... yum!Our irish server suzy was excellent too.

Small quiet steakhouse on a quiet Street not far from the seaport. Great service, excellent drink selections for single malt lovers and quality meats.

S

Felt a bit reluctant to eat in here because it looked quite formal (white table cloths everywhere) and was totally empty. But the food was delicious. I had filet mignon and it was beautifully tender and really well cooked. You definitely don't need a starter here - the steaks are huge.

X

very good steak itself! Dry aged-juicy and tender. a bit burned on the surface though. lobster bisque is average

M
Michael Regalado

We went and took advantage of Restaurant week in NYC. Steak was good, wasn't a huge fan of them bringing it out so early, the fatty oil was still extremely hot and splattering all over me and my guest. Besides that I'd recommend: a nice upgrade to an afternoon meal.

E
ELIZABETH WILLIAMS

Long time steak house in the Seaport. Not only great steaks but the fish, it was terrific. Nice baked potatoes which are not so common in steakhouses these days. Tasty broccoli and mushroom sides and excellent desserts. The atmosphere is okay. It's a solid steakhouse and not ridiculously priced like so many.

M

Steak was good chicken didn't really have flavor but the skin was cooked to perfection. The brownie desert was the smallest I've ever seen. Waiter was great bathroom was clean.

Lobster and oysters were good but clams were not fresh. Steak was good but.. I'll say that I've made better dry age steaks at home.

Restaurant week menu was a great deal at $26 per person for three courses. Baked clam appetizer, sirlion and a ice cream dessert. The service was on the slow side however.

E
Erika Solomon

Came here for Restaurant Week had a good experience overall. The items we ordered off of the regular menu were perfect. The items I got from restaurant week menu we're good but could have been a little better. The restaurant Week offering for baked clams were the size of a quarter. Definitely not worth it. I ordered medium well steak but definitely got a medium. The service could have been better for example we arrived hungry and waited a very long time to get bread and then our appetizers came at the same time making the bread pointless.

Solid steakhouse tucked away on a side street in the Seaport. I thought the steak was very good and reasonably priced with nice chewy fries. The clams casino were a solid appetizer but the cream spinach was not great. They do charge a CC fee which is always frustrating, especially at this price point

Sammy N

Porterhouse and bone in rib eye are great! Creamed spinach isn't too creamy either. Broccoli rabe was only okay, it's skippable. For appetizers we got bacon and calamari, highly recommended to get them

C

Bring your own bread the 2 dry reheated stale rolls were unimpressive. Now I know people don’t go to a steakhouse for bread but when you go to NYY steakhouse you get their delicious raisin bread and fresh warm pretzel bread when you go to capital Grille, they have amazing breads as well as the flatbreads for me is a make or break believe it or not, not such an impressive selection of desserts. My rack of lamb was average. The biggest plus about this restaurant is the location as it’s not too far into the city. I know the pandemic has forced everyone to make some changes and cut back but really those rolls are absolutely hard, dry and disgusting for what people are paying for a steak. They deserve a decent piece of bread. I will say the service was impeccable. Also other fine dining establishment will acknowledge a special occasion. This was not the case here just very unimpressed used to come here for every occasion.

R
Ryan Shea

I've had better. In fact, much better. For what they charge I expected much more. The food was only fair. The waitstaff was very friendly and accommodating. However the steaks were under done, the seafood was over done, and the servers made several mistakes, spilling drinks on the table and not coming to the table to check on us for a long, long while. For $150/person I just expected more.

J
John Johnson

It’s been close to a decade since I last visited this restaurant and it was exceptional back then. Really was shocked with the food this time around. I went on a Friday night for my reservation at 6:45pm. The Hostess was welcoming and so was the bartender. Their were a few guests sitting at the bar, I had a cocktail at the bar and had the hostess show me to my table. It was how I remembered from a decade ago after Hurricane Sandy, not crowded at all. So, I ordered the Lobster Bisque, which came out lukewarm, not a good start. For my main entree, I had the Sirloin Steak medium rare cooked perfectly temperature wise. The sides I ordered to accompany my Sirloin were the mashed potato, sauté mushrooms and asparagus. From the taste of all of the food I ordered nothing really stood out, the food was extremely BLAND! There were no seasoning on any of the food. I loaded each item I ordered with salt and pepper just to give the food some flavor. Overall, my experience for dinner was okay. But, who ever is the Chef needs to season food that cost a lot in NYC Steakhouses.

Perhaps the restaurant was off it's game, but many people at my table were not satisfied with the food. The lobster was dry, the steak was so tough and gristly, and the lobster mac and cheese had very little lobster and the sauce was pretty thin. People did state that the clams and oysters were pretty good, but I did not personally taste them. The salads were nice too, but I didn't go to a steakhouse for salad. I will say they played contemporary music and the drinks were strong. The star of the night was the service - prompt, courteous and patient.

The food was delicious, the service was incredibly slow. No possible excuse for that as the restuarant was virtually empty. Although there was a restaurant week/month menu on their website, they advised that they were no longer participating in restuarant week/month.

Filet was not that tasty. I got it medium and it just needed season for salt or something. The lobster was over cooked. It was not succulent at all. And the pasta dish was just ok. Same thing the seafood was over cooked. I expected more out of this place. The music was also terrible soft rock. I expected something more romantic or Italian or unique. Service was GREAT tho.

This was a good dinner option. Service was fantastic. Atmosphere was great. A little off the main streets but tables were dressed for fine dining. Had the filet, mashed potatoes and asparagus. One bread roll provided - was good - really felt like a Hawaiian sweet roll though. Butter was too cold to spread. The steak was cooked correctly. The food was okay. Steak was a steak - nothing special. Mashed potatoes tasted like ones I make at home. A bit pricey for the overall taste. Was there for business travel, would not go back as there are lots of other steakhouses to try.

Always loved coming here especially for cowboy ribeye steaks. However after going today I ordered a t-bone steak and it was not good. The meat seemed old and not the same aged steaks I've been used to in previous visits. My friends who also dined with me also stated the steaks were dry, bland, and old. I will unfortunately have to find another steakhouse that will maintain a juicy high quality steak that's worth the price advertised

Stopped by for restaurant week. Was very disappointed. Steak was tough and burnt. Lobster bisque had 2-3 tiny pieces of lobster; tasted more like tomato soup than lobster bisque. Dessert left much to be desired. Drinks are way overpriced. Would not revisit or recommend.

The steak was good as usual, but the service was horrible. The restaurant was understaffed, focusing on larger tables and neglecting our table for two. A ‘mandatory’ 22% tip was added to the check. When I questioned it, the waiter snatched my credit card, handed me a new bill, and said, ‘Okok, you don’t need to pay tips!’ I didn’t pay the 22% tip because they didn’t deserve it. Now, as I write this review, I realize the 15% tip I left was too much. Not my first time here. Will I come back again? I don’t think so. Would I recommend it to my peers? A solid NO! In NYC, I have better options.

Very disappointed with this place. As soon as we walked in the carpet smelled like it was not cleaned in a long time and moldy and musty. The french onion soup was good, the steak was ok the center cut bacon not so good as it tasted like there was no flavor to it. The smell of the carpet was so overwhelming, we skipped desert and got out of there as soon as possible! Used to be excellent but I see the cuts they made were not for the interest of the people. I rather pay more for cleanliness than and quality food then the cuts they made to this place. Even our drinking water glasses smelled of bleach as if they never rinsed them after dipping them in the soap. Never again. I give them 2 stars for an ok steak and an om waiter.

The crab cake and Rockefeller oysters were good. The steak was undercooked and we did not bother to send it back because of how slow the service was to begin with. The baked clams were poor and the service was minimal. The atmosphere of the restaurant was LOUD which is not the fault of the actual restaurant. We received our drinks 1 hour after being seated. We also indicated that we were celebrating our anniversary and nothing special was done or acknowledged. The price point of the menu is fair, perhaps it was an off night but this was not an enjoyable experience. I will say that the hostess or woman who seated us was great and she is probably the saving grace of the restaurant.

Caesar salad was below average, bone-in ribeye was pretty chewy and without any presentation. Not worth the money, there are far better places around.

I've been here a number of times and it has always been above excellent. This is the only place that cooks my steak perfectly every time. But the last time was not as good. My steak was not cooked the way I wanted and I don't like sending it back. I asked for pink in the middle of my steak and it was red and I couldn't finish it. I found out after we left that my brothers steak was not cooked the way he wanted but he didn't want to send it back either. He never ate there before and I told him he wouldn't be disappointed. I felt embarrassed. The service was second to none. I now need to find another steakhouse that can cook a steak as requested. A month went by and no response to my review. I will not be going back to this establishment with my family or my friends. Went to another steakhouse with my friends the other day. The steak was cooked as requested and it was one third the price and it was delicious. The service was not as good but satisfactory. The important thing was the steak was cooked as requested. No response from the owner at all. He or she should respond to all the reviews regardless if it's good or bad. Honestly, I was hoping for an apology for the incorrect way my steak was cooked. Oh well, I guess they have more important things to do than respond to a customers negative review. Been going there for years with my friends. Never again.

The steak was charred, chewy, and flavorless. The staff watched soccer while I tried to get the bill. The restaurant was appropriately empty, which was a bad vibe

My wife and I had early evening reservations on a Sunday. When we entered the restaurant I asked the woman who received us to seat us in a nice quiet corner. We were happy to discover when we entered the dinning area that we were the only patrons there. After ordering drinks we realized we were listening to the wait staff chatting/ cackling with the people working behind the bar. And they got louder and louder. I finally closed the doors separating the bar from the dinning area. To top things off, my order was under-cooked. Our waiter seemed to have disappeared. By the time I got the waiter over to our table my wife had finished her meal. We corked the wine we ordered and took everything home. I strongly believe that even though we were the only patrons in the restaurant at the time we were no less deserving of a relaxing, well prepared meal. We're looking for a "go-to" steak place where we can get great food and drink for a relaxing meal. This was not the place.

I was excited about going to this restaurant, but did my research and see in reviews that they UNLAWFULLY CHARGE A CREDIT CARD SURCHARGE; illegal in the state of NY. SECTION 518 NY business law. Instead of dealing with this issue at check out, I chose to patronize another establishment. Shame on management for taking advantage of customers.

I rarely write reviews, but after this visit it’s simply impossible to stay silent. We came to this restaurant specifically for the steaks — and yes, to be fair, the steak was excellent. One of the best I’ve ever had. But everything else was such a disaster that any desire to ever come back disappeared instantly. First of all, the atmosphere doesn’t match the price level at all. When a steak costs around $100 (and that’s without any sides!), the place feels more like a noisy sports bar — TVs showing football, random music — absolutely nothing close to a fine dining experience. Second — the bill. Automatically added high gratuity plus a 3% fee for paying by card — none of which were mentioned in advance. Finding this out only at the moment of payment is, to put it mildly, unpleasant. But the worst part started when their payment terminal kept declining my card. Instead of trying to help, the staff just shrugged. I had to explain myself that the card needs to be inserted, not swiped. Eventually a manager came over — and things only got worse. Instead of offering a normal solution, we were given lectures about how they are “old-fashioned,” don’t accept Apple Pay, that “in New York you should carry cash,” a suggestion to leave valuables as collateral, and even a direct statement implying that there was simply no money on my card. It was so humiliating and rude that I was honestly speechless. Later, the very same card worked perfectly elsewhere — so clearly the problem was on their side. And yes, when the payment finally went through on another card, the previously added gratuity magically disappeared from the bill, and the tone of communication instantly became overly polite and sweet. But after everything that had already happened, it just looked pitiful. The impression of the evening was completely destroyed. Yes, the food is good. But I haven’t experienced such disrespect toward guests in a restaurant with these prices in a very long time. Note for management: We visited on December 26th at around 8:00 PM (evening service). The floor manager at the time was a woman with short dark hair, American, who personally handled our situation.
