My phone died, but I had French onion soup and fries. It was very good. The waiter was super nice. However, the water wasn’t very clean idk …
Amazing food at reasonable price. Atmosphere is similar to Paris petite bistro. Service is great!
A great place to have brunch on the weekend! Must try their apple pancake with turkey bacon! Yummy!
Tiny place where tables are too small and too close, but all of that is forgotten when food gets to your table. I ordered the Eggs Norvegienne, which comes with tomatoes (some kind of salad) and potatoes on the side. The eggs were perfectly poached, not a single bit of the yolk was set. The smoked salmon was subtle and not at all fishy. The hollandaise was rich with a clear butter flavor and a nice sourness that balances it. This is a great place for brunch, tucked away in a mostly residential neighborhood.
Really cute restaurant with a very homey feel. The food came out quickly and was very fresh and well-curated. The staff were also super friendly and prompt. Do note that this place is CASH ONLY. It's a perfect brunch spot for conversing with friends since it's a quieter place than most in Nyc. Looking forward to coming back
Very cute, very tasty, & very small. Tartine does what it sets out to do - be a neighborhood bistro with solid food. The escargot, mussels, soup, and sautéed chicken (everything we had) were spot on. The entire place only seats ~20, so plan accordingly. The owner/executive chef is extremely welcoming and friendly. All together, it made for a delicious, relaxing meal. I wish there were more places like this.
The perfect French bistro in the West Village. I’m sorry I waited so long to try it: excellent food, great service, and reasonable prices.
SPICY CHICKEN!!! This dish is crack. The guacamole pulls it all together. I also love the chicken sandwich on grain bread for brunch. This place is an absolute gem and delivers very well too!
Amazing little place. I don’t know french cuisine but the food was great! I was told that the owner is french and has another restaurant in Williamsburg. I had the spicy chicken and it was delicious. The fig salad was awesome! Food and Wine is fairly priced. Really good experience.
Beautiful and delicious food. Excellent service and Fernando was extremely attentive to every detail. We will be back.
Tartine is such a great place for a nice cozy dining experience. We sat outside and it’s such a lovely view. The steak Au Poivres was delicious and so were the Mussels! Every time we go we have such a lovely experience The food is always delicious and the service is great, very nice staff. Last night was a beautiful spring night and we enjoyed the lovely dinner! We love going to Tartine. Looking forward to the next time. Maria
For someone who doesn't like breakfast foods, the eggs benedict is veryyyy good, a bit cozy and cramped but has that awesome hole in the wall feel to it. Cute decoration and atmosphere as well. Has outdoor and inside seating. And the inside didn't feel hot for a summer day. Wanted to try the desserts but had no room. Food tastes fresh and delicious!!! Will definitely be going back
Tartine was a great little find after searching "Best Eggs Benedict" while on the west side of Manhattan. We had waited 20 mins at another restaurant that was terrible at giving estimates so we ventured downtown to the Village and was seated in 2mins even though he initially said 10mins wait (on a Sunday, peak brunch hour). Cash only, tight space, and BYOB! Brunch Prix Fixe was $18 with a dozen awesome choices on the menu, came with OJ plus coffee or tea. Service was efficient. Next time I will def bring some bubbly to mix with OJ! THE EGGS BENNY NOVA WAS PERFECT!!! Potatoes were delish and so flavorful, not dry and the Omelette my friend got looked really good too. Light and fluffy. We werent too impressed with the Brioche toast (extra $2.50) though... it wasnt served with butter or jam, so I dont know why we would wanna eat dry toast. 😆 Really wish the French Toast could have been a side! Would come back again, bring more people and a bottle of bubbly. Also maybe share a few things to get the best of eggs, pancakes and french toast. And their almond croissant. Okay I just love breakfast and this is way too long now.
Amazing food! The place is bring your own booze. We saw lots of people bringing their own bottles of wine. The restaurant also had a nice selection of beers and wines as well. The food portions were very big and reasonably priced. It's a wonderful local restaurant with a great vibe! The picture features the spicy chicken, which was delicious. Everything was perfectly cooked.
Sat outside on a perfect Sunday afternoon to eat delicious eggs. 1. Tunisian eggs - great flavor with perfectly poached eggs. 2. Vegetable hash - healthy no carb option 3 salmon egg Benedict - flavorful, enjoyed the salmon Service was good and servers were friendly. We got seated pretty quickly. Just a heads up your party needs to be there to be seated
I had a late brunch here on Saturday and while there was a line, it moved quickly. The restaurant is small, crowded, and noisy but not any more than any other Greenwich Village eatery on a weekend. The service is quick and friendly and the foid arrived at our table very quickly considering how budy they were. I had the Corned Beef Hash, which was served in a small cast iron skillet with two poached eggs on top. It was far and away the best Corned Beef Hash I have ever tasted. The coffee is also worth noting in that it was just right. Not bitter or burned. Tartine has been a Village staple for many many years and after finally braving the ever present line, I understand why. An excellent choice. Highly recommended.
Legit obsessed with the omelette - the fresh herb flavor is so good. Breakfast potatoes are also great, pro tip is to have the hollandaise sauce that comes with the omelette served on the side. I have been coming here for 15+ years, and it is one of my favorite spots in the entire city.
Food was pretty good, we had the apple pancake that was enough for 2 people, I think is one of the popular dishes in the restaurant. Pretty good flavor and not overwhelming sweet. We also had the smoked salmon on top of a potato tortilla, I did like it a lot ! Topped with capers, onions and cream fresh. Plus a glass of raspberry mimosa
We miss the food at tartine most of the time now that we are never in our US home neighborhood very often - it’s one of if not the only thing that remains of the good old New York before everyone moved away over the last 6+ years! Truly hope it’s never pushed out.
This is THE West Village experience in a restaurant. Perched on a corner, overlooking gorgeous ivy covered brick buildings, no other restaurant in sight and under towering trees. This quiet, neighborhood spot has delicious food and superb classy service. Very easy going vibe, we sat outside to enjoy the late summer air. Seems most people knew to bring their own wine, but they do have a wine list which served us a very good Cote du Rhone. The food was perfect. Brussel sprouts fried in bacon juice and served in an iron skillet. Tuna tartare perfectly built as of by an architect. And the steak au poivre was incredible too. Usually one to skip dessert, I happily enjoyed the hot apple pie a la mode. Sitting here, with good company, and relaxed atmosphere I can confidently say this place is a gem. Dining on this quiet corner created an instant memory. Definitely will be back soon. Enjoy
Tartine in the West Village is the kind of place you want to gatekeep — hard. It’s such a gem. Incredibly charming, with the best corner in the neighborhood by far. That said, if you show up at 10:45 am, good luck getting an outdoor table — it’s clearly not a secret anymore. The food is fantastic, prices are refreshingly reasonable, and the staff couldn’t be friendlier. It’s one of those rare spots that just gets everything right without trying too hard. Six stars if I could.
For decades this neighborhood treasure has felt like home to me. That place that feels familiar and welcomes you when you return after time away. Tucked into your seat, elbow to elbow with your neighbor, for the next hour or so, you will enjoy the casual bistro style menu and the Tartine family will always make sure you come home again.
My wife and daughter told me this is a restaurant from the NYC series "Sex and the City" / "And just like that." Whatever. We had a delicious West Village breakfast as soon as they opened in the morning. Very nice interior. Fast and friendly service. Recommended!
My decades long favorite afternoon food stop in the West Village. Anything is good. Nice wine selection by the glass. No longer make their amazing dacqoise, which is too bad. This time round. Mussels. Fries. Two Sancerre. $65. A tasty bargain. Sit on the external terrace if you can and watch the sun light filter through the leaves. Soon to be gone, as winter arrives
Tartine – Our Forever Favorite in the West Village Some places feed you more than food—and Tartine is one of those rare, irreplaceable spots. Tucked into the dreamiest little corner of the West Village, Tartine is where my husband and I had our very first date night. It’s where he took me for my first birthday after we met. And later, it’s where we shot part of our wedding photos. Even my husband’s colleagues gifted us wedding anniversary gift card from Tartine ! That’s how personal this place is to us. We’ve been back more times than I can count, and it’s never just about the food (though the food is always good). It’s about the energy, the people, the warmth. The staff are some of the kindest you’ll meet in New York—no pretense, just genuine hospitality. Even though they don’t take reservations, you never feel rushed or forgotten. People wait patiently, because everyone seems to know: it’s worth it. The food? Honest. Generous. Comforting. There’s nothing overly fussy—just really well-made dishes that feel like home. My go-to is the crab cake when it’s available (an underrated gem), and if you’re lucky, the white frosted cheesecake will be on the menu—soft, light, and absolutely dreamy. My husband swears by the burger. The menu changes often enough to keep things exciting, but the soul of it stays the same. In summer, Tartine is extra magical. The leafy West Village corner, the big windows, the sunlight filtering in—it’s the kind of spot you want to sit at for hours with someone you love. But even on a rainy or gloomy day, something about it lifts your mood. It just feels good to be there. Tartine may not be flashy or trendy, but that’s exactly why we love it. It’s one of those truly underrated places that deserves to be cherished—and we’ll keep coming back, again and again💗💗💗
We recently dined at Tartine and had an overall pleasant experience, largely thanks to the warm and attentive service– definitely the highlight of the day. We started with the Fresh bursts with Truffle salad, which was a standout. The combination of artichokes, peppers, beets, and a fantastic burrata made it a fresh and flavorful way to begin the meal. Highly recommend. For mains, I had the special homemade pasta with salmon, shrimp, and mussels. While the seafood portion was decent, the dish lacked seasoning, and both the salmon and shrimp were slightly overcooked. My friend had another special, a quiche/pizza hybrid with anchovies and that was delicious, with bold flavors and a satisfying texture. We also tried the rosé from the wine specials, which was excellent and paired beautifully with the meal. In short: Service and starters were top-notch, wine was lovely, mains were hit or miss. Would come back, but might choose a different entrée next time.
BYOB, decent food, in the village - usually you pick 2 outta 3, but Tartine hits it out of the park. Other than the bizarre amount of manchego on my paillard (still delicious, just extravagant by French standards) this took me back to my time living in Paris. Go on a day where the patio is tolerable and have a good time!
Tartine in the West Village is a charming little gem that I had the pleasure of discovering recently, and my experience there was nothing short of delightful. My initial encounter with this quaint restaurant was serendipitous, as I stumbled upon it while passing by during the filming of the hit HBO show “And Just Like That,” featuring Sarah Jessica Parker and John Corbett. Intrigued by the lively atmosphere and the bustling scene, I decided to return the next day for lunch. Upon my arrival, I was immediately drawn to the restaurant's cozy ambiance, reminiscent of a classic French café. The warm, inviting decor and intimate seating create a perfect setting for a leisurely meal. The outdoor seating area is particularly lovely, providing a serene escape in a quiet neighborhood lined with trees. It felt like a little slice of Paris right in the heart of New York City. For lunch, I opted for the iced tea and the French onion soup, both of which were absolutely delicious. The iced tea was refreshing and perfectly brewed, a great complement to my meal. The French onion soup, on the other hand, was a standout dish. It was rich and flavorful, topped with a generous layer of melted cheese and served piping hot. Each spoonful was comforting and satisfying, making it clear that Tartine takes pride in its culinary offerings. The service was friendly and attentive, adding to the overall pleasant dining experience. The staff seemed genuinely happy to be there, which contributed to the welcoming atmosphere of the restaurant. In conclusion, my visit to Tartine was a delightful experience that exceeded my expectations. The combination of delicious food, cozy ambiance, and friendly service makes it a perfect spot for a leisurely lunch or a casual dinner. Whether you’re a local or just visiting the West Village, I highly recommend stopping by Tartine. It's a charming escape that captures the essence of a French café while offering a taste of delicious comfort food. I can’t wait to return and explore more of their menu!
I LOOOVE THIS PLACE. My favorite restaurant in the city. 1. It’s BYOB with no corkage fee, and the staff is so amazing as soon as they see you walk in they pop your bottle of choice open and chill it 2. The menu is GIVING. Their fries slap like you’re actually in France, the Burger is the King of burgers in the west village 3. The atmosphere… TRY to beat sitting at the cutest little restaurant corner in the West Village of New York. You literally feel like you’re in a movie with all the greenery and trees. No crowds or hoards of people bothering you. So nice. 4. It’s WALK IN. You can pop in this beauty any time, and if there’s a wait, check out one of the bars around the area or just stroll down the street. I love this place and if it ever closes I will be immensely sad. My photos do NOT do it justice but trust, you will not be disappointed.
Nice French spot in the West Village. One of my favorite places to eat in the village. It’s like you’re in a little cafè in France. I love their sautéed chicken or the beef mignonette. Their fries always comes out great and it comes also with some salad which is nice. Great service and friendly staff. Highly recommend this place if you’re in the village looking for a nice spot to eat.
Good Croque Madame, excellent tarte tatin (probably the best we've had in NYC out of around 5 places). Good service, not overbearing. Reasonably priced. Will put it in the brunch rotation.
sometimes, your dinner plans don't work out. for instance, you went to work and you told your girlfriend, “don't worry, i'll come home in time for dinner," but it's actually tax season and deadline season in addition to also being pandemic and allergy season, and when you arrive at home to find her soundly asleep, it's 9pm and the three other restaurants you'd wanted to try were solidly booked, or closing, or #toocool for you. typically this would not be a preferable situation, except for the fact that this restaurant, tartine, exists, not only to fill the emptiness in your stomach but also the one in your heart. the chef(s) at tartine don't cook with ingredients or with pots and pans—they cook with passion and soul. having a meal here was like the scene from ratatouille when the grumpy critic finally has that meal that transports him back to his childhood and he realizes maybe there's more to life than yelling at other people, and it didn't even matter that they are cash only and BYOB thanks to the mysterious, creamy, druglike ingredient in the "spicy chicken" dish. if these guys added tablecloths and candles and replaced those mcd-esque fries with something a little more handmade, they'd easily achieve the hype and ostentation of their neighbors, but they'd just as soon lose the charm and personality that comes with imperfection.
Tightly packed tables inside and sidewalk seating outside, this place may feel a bit dingy, but the food is high quality and fantastic. $18 prix fixe brunch, 10-4pm has a wide range of options (the corned beef hash is incredible and the Tunisian Breakfast is a flavorful take on a bruschetta/Benedict) and includes coffee and orange juice. This place is CASH ONLY and BYOB so bring champagne or wine or even vodka to liven up your beverages.
a cute, small, and highly photographable — albeit pricey — brunch spot in nyc’s west village. it’s a popular spot and they don’t take reservations or seat incomplete parties, so be prepared go wait outside in line for awhile for a spot. inside, you’ll find bright lights and a cohesive, blue nautical themed vibe. service was friendly and attentive; our food took awhile to arrive but when it did, i was impressed with how beautifully each dish was presented. my group of 4 shared the following 4 dishes, which were each $18 (** = especially recommend): - ** grey goose cured scottish salmon: the combination of all the ingredients in this beautiful dish provided an eclectic variety of flavors. the cold salmon was fresh and flavorful and melted so subtlely in the mouth. it paired wonderfully with the warm potato pancake and the other veggies—red onion, capers, lemon, etc.— which provided the perfect final tangy kick. - ** gravlox toast: another excellent and aesthetic salmon dish that tasted fresh and refreshing, though the toast itself could have been crispier. - baked eggs with lamb sausage: the sausage was cooked a little too dry, but it had a nice, bold flavor. the eggs were perfectly poached and the tomato sauce was hearty and flavorful— i was scraping it off the bowl by the end! - tunisian breakfast: plenty of veggies which were cooked and seasoned well. the eggs were also well poached, but this was probably the least memorable dish that we ordered and probably wouldn’t get it again. i also got a hot latte, but they didn’t have any substitute milk options which was unfortunate and surprising… but it was still good. overall, i recommend this spot to come with friends for a cute brunch with memorable dishes and photos!
Lovely corner for lunch/brunch outside, especially on a weekday when it’s less crowded if you can swing it. Food is pretty average, lacking a little flair or flavor in the dishes we tried, but service is great and you couldn’t ask for a better location/surroundings. BYO or purchase drinks there.
This is clearly a popular place. It was full and very busy. We waited about 15 minutes until we eventually flagged someone down to get us our menus and drinks. Once we ordered, the food came out reasonably quickly. The presentation is lovely and the food is well prepared, but not as complex as we were hoping; both of our dishes lacked flavor and depth. Nonetheless we left satisfied. The atmosphere is lovely. It doesn’t feel like you’re in the busy city and it gave us the chance to sit and chat.
Came here on a Friday night around 7. Indoor and outdoor seating available even now in January the winter. Nice selection of wines to choose from. I had the rosé which tasted great. I ordered the spicy chicken which wasn’t that spicy in a pepper sense. The sauce was the star of the dish, it tasted great with the fries. Find it interesting that it comes with a scoop of guacamole. The guacamole was amazing, very flavorful. The chicken was on the dryer side and the sauce wasn’t able to compensate for that fully. It was a very lean cut of chicken which I appreciate. The fries were crispy, hot and fresh- very French bistro style. The place fills up quickly but I was glad to not have a wait. Staff is eh- not that friendly or engaging. Bathroom facilities are clean and well-kept. My date had the mussels with fries, he enjoyed guys dish. They had a few specials off the standard menu which included a soup as well as a crab cake. The value was great, bill came out to only 70 dollars for everything.
Food was really good - had the croque madame and the apple pancake. They were very tasty and the apple pancake wasn’t overly sweet. Service was kind and efficient. Space is cozy by some definitions, extremely tight by others.
The food was good. The place is small which is great. However if you have back problems please note the seats on the edge of restaurant have the window as the back. If you have back issues you’ll want to sit in the middle for support. They French onion soup is a+. The burger is fine. It’s a bit over flavored with to many flavors at once but in all it was nice. No ketchup or other dipping sauces which is fine, but the burger was a bit dry to have nothing to dip in
Tartine benefits from being in a prime spot within NYC and I think the prices reflect the same. The space is tiny but really well done. Food was good but had limited vegetarian options and they don’t offer substitutions. I should also note that I was here for brunch with friends and a couple of us don’t consume eggs which made it harder.
The ambiance is spectacular when you’re nestled in one of the most beautiful spots in WV. The food was mid, burger was way over done and the service was painfully slow.
You can't go wrong with this place 4 amazing food and atmosphere. But I think management may want to look into their service staff. My wife and I went in there and we were waiting for a third person to be seated. But my wife had taken some allergy medicine and she wasn't feeling so hot so she asked if we could sit down early. And she was met with a frustrated reaction and a role of the eyes as if we were making their day difficult. At some point she asked if one of the eggs could be fried and was again with another rolling of the eyes. I don't care how good your food is or how highly rated your restaurant is or who you are... you should be aware though the dealing with crappy attitudes from people has a funny way making a person lose an appetite or never returning again. We deal with enough throughout the week in NYC. If you can't smile at the very people you're serving you do not belong in the restaurant industry. The service industry it's not for the self-entitled, introverts.
I discovered this charming little French restaurant on a date, and it was a delightful find. The space is cozy and intimate, with just a handful of tables, making it perfect for a quiet, romantic evening. The escargot was a highlight--rich, buttery, and packed with flavor. The pan-roasted Atlantic salmon, while slightly overcooked, still managed to be enjoyable. That said, the prices felt a bit high for such a casual setting. Overall, it's a quaint spot with good food, ideal for a special, low-key outing.
Came for dinner with some friends on a Friday evening, and was seated within 30 minutes. Tartine is a small restaurant that serves French-ish cuisine with BYOB—there is a limit to how many bottles you can bring, but it is a nice touch to be able to save $$ on alcohol. Food was okay, and service was decent. I would come here for an affordable dinner.
In a city overflowing with luxury dining destinations, the true magic often lies in neighborhood gems. Tartine used to be one of them. The BYOB policy and food still hold their own (hence three stars), but the experience has shifted — and not in a good way. This was my third run-in with the owner’s unnecessary rudeness. I sat down at 9:25 PM on a summer Thursday. Posted hours say 10:30 PM, yet I was immediately told the kitchen was “just about to close.” A menu was tossed on the table, and within minutes he returned only to take the menu away again. When I politely asked for a wine glass and a quick snack while waiting for my friend, the response was: “Too late, kitchen now closed, you cannot open your wine” — followed by a dramatic exit. Inconsistent unreliable hours will surely not help to fill the seats. What once felt like a charming neighborhood classic now feels dismissive and unwelcoming. It’s not the Tartine it used to be — and that’s a loss for the West Village.
Food is very good, although I found the risotto to be a bit underwhelming. The space is VERY tight so expect to be bumping shoulders with the table next to you. Honestly where Tartine is at its weakest is in the service, it might be just a one off but on the day I went the waiters were rude and not willing to answer questions about the menu.
Came here for brunch and the wait wasn’t that long, waiter was extremely nice which is a positive. But the food was miserable and mediocre. The eggs Benedict tasted stale and flavorless, even after adding salt and pepper on the table, a random deli would’ve made a better tasting eggs Benedict . The place is very tight and crammed inside, and some of the tables were wobbly ( perhaps it’s time to get some new tables ).
Food was very mediocre and especially for this price you’d expect something much better. We had 3 different dishes and 2 of them were very disappointing. French toast was so soggy and undercooked, and eggs were really bad quality. Coffee wasn’t bad but wasn’t good either. We really wanted to like this place but we were disappointed.
The host was very rude. I was waiting in line and said we were two people, the second person was coming in two minutes. The host refused to seat me and instead gave the table to people behind me. Very unfair and unprofessional.
Mediocre food and the waitress on Thursday 7/24 at 8:30pm seriously needs to adjust her attitude — she was aggressive and confrontational. This used to be a cool spot, but it’s time to move on.
Rude manager who made us wait and the refused to give us a table to have drinks & coffee. Not a welcoming vibe at all
I don’t recommend this place. The food wasn’t worth the money. I ordered the avocado salad with grilled chicken ($28) — the chicken was overcooked, and the avocado was overripe with black spots throughout. I asked for a replacement, and they brought out the same kind of avocado, just served on the side. The interior, dishes, and furniture were also unpleasant. Definitely not coming back, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.
