This place makes THE best real NY pizza around, and for those who are gluten free, I can tell you they do it really right. My young son has Celiac's, so this isn't a trendy diet. Sal's bakes their GF pies on their own tray so it doesn't get cross contaminated! They even give you a special pizza cutter. Well done!
I was very happy with it. Hadn't been there since it got re done I was impressed with the special on the pizza slices too.
Matt and John make great pizza! 2 cheese slices $5. Can't beat that for lunch!
It's a typical pizza place like you'd see down in New York City. Nothing fancy but really good food and they've been in this town for a long time.
This is my favorite pizza place in Orienta. The food is great. The service is friendly and the atmosphere is just right.
The cuisine remains unequivocally distinguished, yet a recurrent deterioration in service quality compels comment. Today’s front-of-house staff performed with a gracious and attentive bearing that accentuated the merits of the meal. Too often, however, prior rotations at the register have been occupied by personnel exhibiting marked physical and behavioral signs—slack affect, tremor, pupillary aberration—consistent with acute opioid intoxication or withdrawal, which casts a palpable pall over the dining atmosphere. To safeguard the restaurant’s standing as both culinary paragon and welcoming public house, I respectfully urge management to institute heightened scrutiny in hiring and retention, so that only those equally meritorious in comportment as the kitchen staff are entrusted to represent the house.
Classic Sal’s is back! The simple and delicious ingredients make this one of the best pizza places in town. The crust of the pizza; that glorious foundation upon which an entire Sal’s culinary identity rests. It’s not just bread. It’s not just a base. It’s a carefully orchestrated balance of chew, crunch, flavor, and soul. The perfect New York-style pizza crust begins with its unmistakable texture. Picture this: the outer rim, or cornicione, is golden and puffed, with just the right amount of blistering — a testament to the intense heat of a seasoned deck oven. It’s crisp when you first bite in, giving way to a tender, chewy interior that has just enough resistance to remind you that gluten is your friend. Unlike its thicker cousins from Detroit or Chicago, the New York slice is thin and pliable — thin enough to fold without cracking, thick enough to hold its toppings without surrendering. That fold, that iconic “V” shape, is the New York pizza handshake — a ritual in itself. Flavor-wise, the crust sings of simplicity. High-gluten flour gives it strength and structure, while a long, slow fermentation (ideally 24 to 72 hours) develops a complex, slightly tangy flavor. A whisper of olive oil in the dough lends richness, cooked to a subtle crunch on the underside. Baked directly on a steel oven surface, the bottom is evenly browned — leopard-spotted, Sal’s knows their craft — never pale, never soggy. It crackles lightly as you bite, leaving behind a faint trace of flour and dreams of Oneonta street corners. The perfect Sal’s crust doesn’t steal the spotlight, but it holds its own. It complements the tang of the tomato sauce, the pull of molten mozzarella, the occasional snap of a pepperoni curl. It’s the unsung hero of the slice, the canvas that lets every other ingredient shine. It is good to the last bite — just the crust, nothing else — is a reward in itself. Warm, chewy, slightly salty, and kissed by fire. Pure Sal’s!
First time trying this place out and I have to say, I had THE BEST 2 slices of pizza. I got a Pepperoni slice and a Chicken, Bacon, Ranch slice. The CBR slice had some extra ranch put on it after being popped in the oven for a few minutes, and it was perfect. Highly recommend this place
My family was in town from Chicago (Southside, so you know we have good pizza) for baseball and we stumbled across this place and they did not disappoint. The pizza was pretty damn good, the crust was amazing and the ingredients were fresh. We tried the supreme, ricotta/spinach/tomato and pepperoni and sausage. I’d give them 10 stars if I could because they were able to accommodate my daughter who has sever dairy allergies with her own pizza with vegan cheese, which I ended up also eating cause the vegan cheese was delicious too.
While visiting the area my hubby and I stopped into Sal’s Pizza about 7 times out of a two week period of time…it is that amazing!!! Seriously, some of the best pizza you will ever try. The white pizza by the slice with tomato, ricotta, and spinach is my favorite but we absolutely loved every variety we tried….and we tried a lot!!! The crust is just right…chewy with a crunch on the bottom. They warm up the slices in the oven before serving. All of the staff are welcoming and lovely. We would rate over 5 stars if we could. Thank you Sals for making our vacation!!!!
I was in town for a baseball tournament and just wanted to grab a couple slices, so I stopped in randomly. I was really surprised how good the pizza was. My wife had a couple bites and even she was surprised how good it was. Being from Buffalo NY we have a lot of good pizzerias and this one was good!
I drove from MD to Lake George for a weekend and had to stop in my college town for pizza! Sal’s was just as good as I remembered.. though the cold cheese hits differently at 30 for lunch than 19 for a super early breakfast. The cold cheese slice is a classic but I loved the caprese slice most of all. The crust is fantastic, crispy but a little soft ugh it’s perfect. I had a great conversation with Bobby (owner) which is also really cool. It’s an awesome pizzeria with small town vibes. Can’t ask for more!
Payed a $60 carry out with my card and left a $10 cash tip only to find out later that they also charged a $10 tip on my card, will not be going back
I like to go to New pizza places and try simple slices. Either plain or just pepperoni and judge the whole menu based on that. So when I say I've tried every place you can (mostly on long island) I have. This 4$ single slice was as hard as cardboard. The dough tasted like it, the only flavor I tasted was the oregano I sprinkled on. Other than that it was like eating.... Nothing. Flavor wise. It was near 0.... For 4 bucks.... One slice.... How is this place selling anything I don't understand.
I got a stromboli barely any meat barely any cheese nothing but bread tasteless never again
$12.22 for two slices of pizza! That’s criminal. Gave me an attitude about asking for a small box to take my pizza to go, and left my pizza in the oven until it was burnt. Unbelievable. Never again.
Small ass calzone got told on the phone it feeds 2 people that’s bullshit 16$ go to mollys in the mall feed definitely 2 people and it’s only 10$ 12 with one topping. Honestly won’t be back unfortunately
Their customer for the past 2 1/2 years I’ve been going here good pizza however I witness one of the workers unfortunately tell a man who served in the military that he can’t get a military discount. I find that incredibly disrespectful as someone with family who served in the military, who fought for this owner’s freedom to open a pizzeria. Can’t even give a 10% discount to this man who fought for our freedom in this country. What a shame. I will never step foot in that place again.
I just got a 24 cut pizza for $28 half cheese half pepperoni. One of the worst pizzas I’ve ever had. I ordered from sal’s bc they were the only pizza place open on Monday. The pizza was under cooked the doe was unevenly stretched making some slice paper thin and others way to thick. The sauce had so much sugar in it that it tasted more like a cake than a pizza. The cheese wasn’t even melted all the way. Very disappointed, I hope this place turns things around. This is the second time I’ve tried this place since I moved to the area. I thought the first time was just a off day. I probably won’t go back to this location. I’m not the only one a little sugar is fine your employees clearly don’t know how to measure the sugar properly. I have recipes for a good pizza sauce if you need help.
