Came here on Thursday for lunch. First time here. Got the Butaton Ramen and lunch special. The rice, beef, and salad were nice for the price and tasted good. When the ramen came I was surprised by how big the chashu was and how big the bowl was. Both are bigger than this other Ramen place I go to. I loved the chashu. Very tasty. Well done but still tender. Just the way I like it The noodles are softer than I would have expected but not complaining. I actually enjoyed the noodle texture very much. I've had chewier noodles before, but I liked the softer texture very much too. The broth was very hot. And mid spicy. While I enjoy the broth. In my opinion, the flavor and richness of the broth was not as great as this other ramen place I've been to. It did not ruin the meal but was a downer. Maybe I'll try another flavor next time. The service was top tier. My waiter was excellent and attentive when I was ready to order food and drink without disturbing me while I ate. Was not expecting such good service. The waiter exceeded my expectations. I kicked myself because I forgot his name. I like how roomy the dining area is for both single diners and groups. I felt comfortable in my seat. Overall good experience with food, service, and seating. A bit expensive. But I will be back.
I had the shoyu ramen for lunch (without spinach, seaweed and shoots). The broth was light but tasty, the noodles chewy and slightly el dente. The pork was torched on surface for extra texture, cooked well and not dry. Two slices were just right to be filling. I had the lychee sorbet for dessert and it was such an amazing palate cleanser with a refreshingly sweet taste and almost gelato level creamy texture. Enjoyed my entire meal. Will visit again.
Transcendent meal with on point friendly service and great music taste. 5 stars well-deserved.
We came for lunch and I ordered the spicy miso ramen and made that a lunch combo ( small chasu bowl and small salad). The noddles cook just right, chewy. The miso is not too salty and I almost drank all the soup at the end. The runny boiled egg and they pan fired the chasu before cooking it which is special. I’ll recommend this place!
This place is my new favorite ramen spot. Moved here from LA (Sawtelle) a year ago and after many Ramen tastings this was definitely above and beyond anything I have found in OC. Highly recommend for the delicious spicy Tsukemen and this place for the customers, authentic ramen atmosphere.
Ramen is really delicious. I like their tonkotsu broth The restrooms are clean and the dining environment is great
Good food and good staff. This place pretty closed to the church in Orange. I believe this place is pretty new. But definitely will recommend this place, the staff really good at presenting food and drink. The beer is good, the ramen is good too. We will go back again to this place...
Yummy ramen, very authentic broth - tasted like real roast chicken broth! Some of the best pork belly I’ve had - although I’m not a big fan of pork. Service was quick and prices reasonable. This neighborhood is a cute stop off after a day at Disneyland!
It's my first time trying this place and I love it so much the food was good the wait was worth it I asked one of the employees named Sam what's the recommendation and he told me to try Butaton Ramen and I ordered it and it was delicious Sam is very kind and helpful when we have a hard time paying I recommend going there especially if you're a huge fan of Ramen
I went to this place with a group of 8 at around 5:30 pm, on a Monday: wasnt packed and service was quick and kind! I got the tonkotsu ramen and the takoyaki: which were both really good! Very dense and hearty, especially the pork broth! Everything was cooked perfectly and you get a LOT of ramen for each bowl: they dont skimp! I paid about 15 dollars for the ramen, and 5 for the takoyaki.
My visit to Butaton Ramen was excellent, the restaurant is in a corner with windows looking to the street with a nice view. In terms of food, I had the spicy miso ramen, broth was tasty, meat was so soft and noodles were great, not as spicy as advertised but still great!!, services was very good as well. Recommended 🍜
This place was hoping, but we still got a table within 10min. Friendly staff and outstanding Ramen. Totally worth every penny!

Absolutely excellent ramen, takoyaki and gyoza
Very delicious ramen, quick and friendly service!
Loved it, and the location is fabulous 👌
Ramen is great and priced reasonably 👍
I loved the food, really good
Great service exelente tasty ramen
Delicious ramen and fried baby octopus!
Good tuna bowl and ramen
Fantastic ramen and nice staff.
Friendly staff, delicious food
Great Food and Service
Tasty comforting food!
Excellent quality Ramen.
One of the best in this town
Visiting from Orlando and this is the best ramen I have ever had. I sincerely mean that. Service was amazing. Everything is made in house.
Every thing about this place is umami. Including the magical never-emptying sake flask. And the peeps? Experience is best. What was I, this nobody, treated like a daimyo? Get the spicy miso soup; it's comfort food for the whole person and fuel for the day. Vroom. Favorite spot, mine, now. PS- if you're into cars, this is the place to watch and listen. Classics and all sorts roll through on the weekend's especially. But it's a good hang for it. I've yet to see a Skyline though. Waiting.
Been here a few times now and still really love this place. Tried 2 different ramens - Butaton and Spicy Miso. Both great. Also, try their gyoza. Last thing ... somehow their hot green tea was the best I've had in a while.
The team, while growing in experience, most able to adapt quickly to changing environments and provide excellent service. The food, exceptional. We'll be seeing you soon
It is so great to find a good ramen place in downtown orange. I recommend going here. The service and food are wonderful
Excellent food. Eatung the Takoyaki I believe I have experienced umami!!! I could not identify a specific flavor, but ALL flavors at once. Amazing food and flavors.
Really great meal. Excellent spicy miso ramen and seaweed salad. Fast, attentive service. Finally found a good ramen spot in Orange.
Spicy ramen so delicious!! My fav actually! Service is good
The food is very good, the broths all are packed with flavor and richness. Taste very authentic and really great staff at this location.
Best Ramen in Orange by far. Service is excellent and taste darn consistent. Not an expert, but this place is my personal benchmark
Butaton is fantastic. Best Ramen in OC and probably LA. James hooked us up too. Forget SLR. This place is legit.
Super good! The staff was super polite, the place was clean and had a great atmosphere, and the food was delicious! It’s nice to see a place on the circle put in effort when so many of them don’t😌
I over ate at this place. It’s too good. I just kept chowing down. Recommended. The broth is killer. Great service.
Awesome staff, food and location at Orange Circle. Clean also. I recommend this restaurant. You will not be disappointed.
Fresh handmade noodles. Flavorful broth, just right. Nice atmosphere. Friendly service.
currently my favorite ramen spot!! so delicious and they are very generous with the chashu
Had a great bowl of ramen. The broth was flavorful and the noodles are fresh and chewy.
I got the beef bowl and it is the closest to a guydon bowl that I have been able to find around here. I would highly recommend it!
Best Ramen spot in OC. Best Ramen spot I have been to so far in my quest for Ramen!!! 🥰🍜 def worth a try!!
Ramen was tasty and the chashu was quite honestly some of the best I've had, I'll be back!
My favorite ramen place , always good
The signature ramen was absolutely delicious! Highly recommended
Good ramen and extremely friendly service. Their in house made chili sauce is bomb!
very good, hella fw the portal to japan doe thats a new sensation
A restaurant with formal, cozy scenery, polite staffs and delicious food. Especially Tonkotsu Ramen.
Great family run ramen shop. Food is delicious and consistent
Amazing taste !!!! My family and I DRIVE for good food…our taste is immaculate. This place is a 10/10 every time…servers are always smiling…great location right in the circle of orange. Comforting and welcoming environment with that warm bowl of home…it’s the best !! Been here 5 times already this month…I will be coming as long as they are here !
This is like many ramen places, only the quality of the food is higher. Just beware that it may be louder than some restaurants.
Love this place. Location is awesome, right in the middle of down town orange 🍊.
I've been shamefully coming to this place every week ever since I heard about this place. It's a must in my day-to-day life now! The ramen is delicious, the best ramen I have ever had. The broth is full of flavour and so creamy, I enjoy every slurp! The gyoza is rich with flavour and crunchy as well. I did see a review pointing out that the waiter is on their phone or it feels like you're bothering them for help, and I honestly agree. You have to call out to the waiter or get up from your seat to get their attention since he only walks around when he's done serving dishes, and it makes me feel bad getting his attention to ask for the check. Might wanna slightly work on that, but other than that, I love coming here. Highly recommend it to anyone looking for good ramen in the circle. Not the other ramen restaurant. Don't go there. Go here instead. It'll be worth the money.
This place was great! I'm not usually a ramen person and other ramen spots I've been to were mediocre. This place wowed us! Service was quick and friendly and the food was great! The broth wasn't overly salty like other places, the cuts of pork were thick and cooked perfectly, the egg was also perfect and jammy in the middle, just everything about the ramen was great! We also had the gyoza and takoyaki and both were really good. We'll 100% be returning here.
I came in the other day with my boyfriend, and I loved the food! I'm pretty picky about my ramen, but the best metric I know is if they do their egg right (gooey soft boil, bot hard), and they do! Their spicey miso is great, and I was happy with the prices for the portion, in addition to how filling their ramen is. It's a pretty casual spot, and rather loud but I'd come here regualrly to scratch that ramen craving itch if I weren't just visiting in the area. I'd comw back in thw future though!
Side salad has a good ratio of greens and dressing. I've never had a brown gyōza sauce before but it was really tasty. Chachu here is THICK. Ramen toppings were really well seasoned. Tonkatsu broth needed some more flavor imo but was still well developed
The place isn't that large and it gets quite busy on the weekends. I usually eat alone, so I get seated pretty fast even during rush hour. I have seen parties of 4 usually wait around 30 minutes or more. The ramen is very good and worth the wait. I give the butaton ramen a solid 9 out of 10!
Excellent ramen spot! The broth is rich and balanced, noodles are super fresh and chewy, and the chashuu is incredibly savory. Definitely coming back.
I've been eating ramen around the world and can confidently say that Butaton is another level. The broth was very rich, the meat, the egg, everything was ridiculously delicious and cooked to perfection. You can feel how much love they put in the food. The service is also impeccable. Really a must-go restaurant, regardless of where you live in LA.
Our party was promptly seated at an outdoor table on a Friday at about 6:00pm. We ordered Spicy Miso Ramen, Tonkatsu Ramen, and Veggie Ramen. Everyone enjoyed their meal. The service was efficient and welcoming.
Listen, I DO NOT like ramen. It's never on my list of things I want, but this is a fairly new spot and I like to try out new restaurants, plus I can usually find SOMEthing on any menu that I'll want to eat. I came in for lunch and got the lunch special because I thought it was a rice bowl (I got the one with beef) and side salad. Turns out, it was ramen with salad, and you can add a rice bowl for a small fee. I figured I was already in for a penny, in for a pound, so I got all of it, plus black garlic oil. YOU GUYS, it was soo delicious! From the salad dressing, to the beef, and the RAMEN! The only other time I've enjoyed ramen this much was when I was sitting in a restaurant in Tokyo. I highly recommend checking this place out. Also, Tam was my server and she was super sweet and very attentive.
Butaton ramen is very authentic! Soup is great flavor, noodle, egg, chashu meat is very tasty and good balance. I'm so happy to find my favorite ramen restaurant in Orange circle!
The team at Butaton provides high quality ramen at such a consistent rate that they must have some secret, and that secret is their owners - committed to quality everyday and it shows. Get the Butaton Ramen then venture into the spicier or veggie versions, you won't be disappointed no matter what you order. Eat immediately by the way! Any ramenhead knows ramen can't wait an hour for some whack app delivery service.
This Japanese Ramen restaurant is the best in Orange! They are delicious! They are all so tasty and fresh; no matter what you order! I also ordered the fried baby octopus for appetizers! They are absolutely delicious! I had visited so many ramen places; nothing compares to Butaton Ramen. The noodles are fresh. The broth is so rich and flavorful! The pork meat and pork belly are so tender and fresh. They melt in in your mouth. The servers are excellent too; they are courteous, friendly and very professional!👍👍👍. They deserve 10 stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️! Well done guys! I will definitely come back again and again, and I will recommend all my friends and families to visit this amazing Japanese Ramen restaurant! Keep up the excellent job guys! Thank you 🙏
As lovers of Ramen, my son and I tried Butaton Ramen for the first time today. We ordered the Tonkotsu and the Butaton Ramen, plus a Beef Bowl and the Mini Salads. Everything was absolutely incredible, but the sesame salad dressing was beyond belief in flavor. Suffice it to say I strongly considered ordering extra sesame dressing to just eat (YES, it IS THAT GOOD)!!!!! The food is fresh, beautifully prepared and presented and most importantly STELLAR. We will definitely be returning as often as we can to try other items and, OF COURSE the mini salad!!!!! JAMES was our server (also part owner) and wonderfully welcoming and helpful. The ambiance is peaceful and relaxing, and the decor is simple elegance. Thanks JAMES, can’t wait to see you again soon.
I've never been a Raman enjoyer, but when my company suggested I try this place,I gave it a chance. This was place great, service was excellent and food was hot and tasted fantastic.

I started searching for a ramen place ‘cause I was starving around 4pm… this place opens 5pm and 10 mins away from me and I liked the pictures from Google. Park was easy. Ordered spicy miso ramen. It was just right and what I needed. I gave it 4 not because of the food, but the service I think it can be improved.

Fast service, reasonable price, tastes good!
small shop with what i consider to be one of the better ramens in the OC area. 4.5 is probably a more fair rating, but it’s quite difficult to find flavourful ramen so far…
Good Tonkotsu! Fantastic eggs! Broth needs just a little more salt, regardless it’s a solid spot!
Wife wanted to go here, loved it thanks. We did not take kids, it was awesome!
Foodbwas good. Services were even better 👌
Visited on night of 22 May 2024. The server was wonderful and speed of service was astounding. Our starters arrived within 5 minutes and the mains just a few minutes behind them. The food was good, though a bit on the dry side. The proteins in our mains as the perfect level of spices. Down sides would be that they have too many tables crammed into this small space. And with a large number of the tables being a table sized for 1 person that they use for 2 people. It is very much possible, but it results in table top space being at a premium. They really should get bigger tables. It would solve this and the potential over crowding issue in one go. A sign on the wall and printed on the menu says they do a forced gratuity for parties of 6 or larger. I do believe it is 1 June this year that any such charges (including a credit or debit card usage fee) becomes illegal in California. It would be advisable for them to remove that sign and update their menus immediately.
the shoyu ramen is DELICIOUS, I love it and get it every time we come here. however, the service isn't the best and there was a hair in my mom's food the last time we ate here. the staff usually have their hair down, which is probably how the hair got in my mom's ramen overall pretty good, the food is amazing but other aspects could be better
I had the spicy miso ramen and it actually is spicy. Often spicy is based on Japanese palate and not actually spicy. Wife had the veggie ramen. The broth on it was a little too broccoli forward for my tastes. We split some gyoza. I enjoyed how crispy they were even if not so traditional.
Very solid place for a good ramen. I enjoyed the spicy tonkatsu along with the set that had the beef bowl and the salad. Will definitely be back

We ordered seven bowls of noodles, two appetizers, and a poke bowl. One of our kids' ramen had a hair in it. We informed the waiter, who replaced it without offering a sincere apology. Additionally, an 18% service charge was applied directly.
The service was a bit confusing- the server didn’t really greet us or introduce himself or do what most waiters do. I had to go up to the counter to let him know I was ready… Raman was good. The seaweed salad was also good, nice portion. The music they had playing was loud and inappropriate for a restaurant that I would return to- kind of like heavy metal.
I agree with most of the other reviews. Food was alright but service is kinda meh. We were told they were getting a table ready for us but I didn't see anyone wiping or cleaning. Took a few minutes to seat us and she didn't even walk us to our table. She just pointed to a table across the room. Never got water until I asked for it. We were sitting for a while and ended up just walking up to the front to pay because the waiter never came. Overhead the table next to us didn't get their appetizer. Food was lukewarm and $7 for 5 pc karaage is crazy.

I tried ramen for the second time in 6 years. I'm not a fan of it would rather go with pho. But give it a try. They don't do split checks so be prepared.
Good ramen. Good portions all around, but my expectation to at least get a decent service failed in many levels. Maybe it was almost closing time and it was a Friday night. So note to self. Walked in with two of my other friends, and made eye contact to the server or the reception guy. We waited a good 10 min or more. Wondering if we will have the server come to us. Nothing. So got up, and went to the register to ask if we place our order there or will someone come to our table. The guy immediately acknowledged our presence and our goals - to eat. We also asked for water after and the food came. Half way through our meals water has not arrived. Two more of our friends arrived. Had to get up again to see the status of those water. I totally get it, they look like under staff but the place is almost empty. Mind you, there was probably only our party and another table that also walked in late. So, you can't be on your phone or chatting around without going thru a list of things first when you have customers around. It's a job. Don't make it feel like its an inconvenience for us to get some service when we pay for it. Phones can truly be a distraction. I tell this to my kids too. This review is meant for the owner to help better train their staff. Whether it's a family run business or not, good service must be of high standard at all times. I will give you 5 star if the next time I come around and that simple service expectations are met. And I will also delete this review and give you my 5 star rating review.
I really do like the Ramen, however, today I witnessed the cashier use his hands, without tongs, to top off someone's order. Ewwwww
The broth is good. So are the eggs. My partner liked his pork belly; mine was very very tough. The noodles are bad. And there is no table service at all. Did you change the noodles recently? I haven’t been here in many weeks but tonight it was empty. I don’t think you are sourcing from Sun anymore. Either that, or you are cooking the noodles differently. But I think others have noticed too. They are too doughy now. But not good-doughy, like tsukemen, instead stiff and drying on the palate. See pic to see how wavy these noodles are, even after sitting in my hot broth for 10+ min. I am giving 3 stars because I appreciate that you were the first ramen in Old Towne and I will keep trying to come here. Perhaps I will just order the bowls or something. — I’m reducing this review. They get enough college customers that I don’t need to return here anymore. Best of luck.
Menu did not indicate or show that imitation crab flakes would be put on top of my salmon poke bowl. Imitation crab usually has a small amount of shellfish, which I am allergic to, so I could not enjoy most of my meal. I don't appreciate that and wish the menu would have reflected any shellfish.
The service was good but the food was not. Gyoza was horrible (store bought/frozen). Ramen had no flavor. And the music! Omg! The nastiest music you can imagine. This kind of music should not be played at a restaurant or any other business. Thank god no kids were inside when I was there. The only good thing about this place was the service. I will not come back.
Worst beef bowl ever 🤮the smell and taste is intolerable!
This is not real Japanese ramen This is more like a Chinese noodle.
Awful to say the least!!! Only gave it one star because there was no choice for ZERO!!! Honestly, I love ramen and know it well. Pork was dry, eggs cooked well, broth was okay (tonkatsu) noodles were not Japanese but were spaghetti! If I wanted Italian I would go to Francolis! Broth and noodles are key to ramen. Much happier with Ramen Mura or Full Frontal Noodle Company! Excited to go for the first time but greatly dissatisfied! We all (family of 4) took two bites and threw out our meal! Sorry but I just want good food!
Why do Asians cutting the wrong corners!? We came to Butaton Ramen for lunch, Orange CA location on July 30, 2024. at 11:30 opening time. The restaurant had zero, no customers at the time. Our party was 5 people. They insisted on squeezing the 5 of us in a small table for 4. The owner added a chair for me to sit on the end. I asked the guy, "Could we join the small table beside our table, so that we don't have to so squished?" He insisted: NO! and made us sit in a tiny table. Meanwhile the restaurant had no other customer. I told the man: "There is no one else in the restaurant, it's empty right now." It cost them nothing to allow me to sit in table next to our table!! So dumb, small minded business customer service mentality. The food was greasy. There is an inch of oil in our ramen soup.
