I wanted catfish really bad read the reviews and then called them... Absolutely no regrets. Best catfish I've had in ten years. We are going to be regulars here.
Robert was our waiter and he was great!! He was very on point with everything! Food was great!
My family met up at Hambones it was wonderful. The crawfish were perfect and the étouffé was perfect.
Had a great double bacon cheeseburger with breaded fries excellent. Also had a pound of boiled shrimp with corn on the cob and new potatoes got chicken and sausage gumbo to go.
This was our first time here. Cute place. The food is great! Hot food. Big portions. We will be back. Seating is mainly pic nic tables .inside and outside seating . . Sodas are in cans..you do get a cup of ice for it
We love the people, the food, and atmosphere. Hal and his entire staff is always good to us. Tasha and Robert are our favs!!!
Best meal I can remember eating at a restaurant in recent memory!!!
Took a little while to get food but some of the best catfish I have ever had....Fried were perfect...service was nice and helpful...if I ever go back I wanna try a steak..
I abosolety love coming here almost every night after work the service is outstanding so friendly and welcoming every single time I come in and the food is just absolutely delicious!
Super cool place. The vibe is great. A d it's really affordable. The staff and owner were top notch.
I have been here 3 times. First two times, we didn't have good service, both times we left without being served. We tried it once again and had the best service from a young waitress that worked her butt off. The food was awesome. I guess 3 time was a charm this time. Hopefully the next time we'll get good service. Consistency is a must.
We were visiting from Beaumont TX. for the my birthday weekend and was told by one of the local. The food, atmosphere and the service was amazing. Best recommendations. We will be back....
Had the crawfish tonight. It was awesome. Excellent staff, owner is great, had a great time. The crawfish was absolutely cooked correctly, one pinch and tail meat comes out! Will be back to try the steak. Good people, good atmosphere, good food!!
Love love this place. This place is amazing. The owner and staff is so friendly. The place is country. Live music. Clean and comfortable place to eat. Always greeted with a big fat hello and smile. Food is fabulous. They have awesome crawfish too. It's a fun and happy place to eat.
Live music acoustic night with Tyler Stokes was awesome. We had a great time. Food and service was excellent. Weather was perfect. Couldn't ask for a better night out.
Traveling from Corpus Christi we stumbled across this rustic building with some absolutely delicious food! Had the all you can eat catfish it was Amazing fresh Delicious!! Owner and staff so friendly and welcoming! If your in the area stop and check it out!!!
Chan and Tasha are the most hospitable bartenders/servers! They were so personable, knowledgeable, and helpful. I felt right at home. They scored this business customers for life! So thrilled to have found this hidden gem on Crawford St downtown! Thanks girls! We had the best time!
From the brand new Alligator Bites to the Crab Legs, this food is fantastic. The owner is a wonderful man that anyone looking for a job would be happy to work for and with. Chandra (I hope I got that right) was our waitress/bartender and she was just a fantastic presence overall. I couldn’t possibly be happier with what my experience was here. Highly recommend the grilled oysters and Blackened fish etoufee. If you live within 150 miles, make the drive, wait however long it takes and enjoy yourself. This is the best restaurant in the Palestine, Tyler, Athens or Corsicana areas. I would’ve taken pictures of the food, but I couldn’t stop eating it to make the time to do so. Thank you for the experience Hambones, couldn’t be more pleased. My wife and I will absolutely be back as often as we can.
A real gem - casual, comfortable, friendly with delicious food. We stopped by after a day on the train looking for something local yet not too pricy. Hambone’s greeted us warmly, brought out soda and tea quickly. The server recommended tacos, steak, and etoufee. We ordered the catfish basket and blackened fish with etoufee. Fabulous. The catfish was fresh, and flaky just like it’s supposed to be, with a delicious fried coating. The etoufee over blackened fish was excellent - blackened fish was spicy and cooked perfectly, topped by a freshly made creamy etoufee with crawfish tails, shrimp, and small pieces of sausage. We finished off our dinner with a piece of chocolate pound cake. We sat indoors, but there was an active crowd outside in the back enjoying the beautiful fall weather. This restaurant is worth a repeat visit. You won’t be disappointed.
First time there tonight, and it was awesome. Flavor of the steaks was great and they were cooked to perfection. Also had a side of sausage and mushrooms from the boil and loved the spice and heat!
Burger was off the chain. Patty's are decent sized and full of flavor. Literally the best burger I've ever had at a restaurant
My volunteer group comes here every weekend. Freshly made burgers and rum cake are my favorite. Staff is polite and the environment is fun and relaxing. Definitely love this place.
An amazing laid back place with great boils and fried seafood. Sat under a grove of trees next to the outdoor grill waiting on our oysters. Everyone makes you feel welcome and well fed. We will stop here every time we are any where near the area. Thanks to Trevor and the dude purging crawfish for keeping us entertained with heartfelt stories about L I V I N.
I'm not really a bar kinda fella, but it was quiet and empty when we ate there. Service and the food was great. Price was reasonable. I just probably wouldn't be there when it was busy.
Best shrimp in town and the best rum cake
This is a wonderful place to eat! Super good food! I absolutely love the crab and crawfish! Great stakes and amazing burgers, Definitely worth a 5 start review!
Excellent experience all around. We were here for several hours and the only complaint I had was the potato salad could use more flavor. The pulled pork was tender, the fried pickles and mushrooms were golden perfection, and those beans.... make sure to try the beans.
Food was great Had the chicken fried steak you could cut with a fork not like others that was so tuff it had the whip marks from losing the race at oak lawn, daughter had the shrimp which she had before and said they made the best she’s had Would recommend to anyone
Our server was so sweet and attentive. She made the girls feel so special they made her several thank you “cards”. Food was perfect and the band was just warming up but great, wish we could have stayed longer!
This was our first time here and the food was amazing! I tried some of my husband's meal which he got the bacon hamburger and my sisters who got the sirloin steak before I even got mine and they were both amazing! I got mine (chicken fried steak ) and I ended up having half the table trying it because it was so good!
Fun place to eat. The wait staff were wonderful. Food was excellent. Didn't have the dessert pecan cooler. Offered cake.....nope....cake doesn't replace cooler. LOL
A small community, family run venue. We were pleasantly surprised as the food was excellent, well plated and the menu was more in line with well-known, bigger restaurants. Absolutely no complaints.
The blackened fish was amazing! My husband had crayfish etouffe and said it was good but not as good as mine. The gentlemen who waited on us was very attentive and personal.
My husband and I went for the first time about two weeks ago. I was thinking about them today, I could use some more catfish. The food was ridiculously good. The portions were great, so much so that we could barely move afterward. I am leaving a review now because if it’s good enough to remember two weeks later then it’s REAL good.
This our go to place!! Waitstaff knows us by name. Knows our drink orders, kids included. They’re so beyond friendly and amazing food. Hal makes this place feel like home, and is the most caring owner in Palestine! We love hambones and the entire team!!
Excellent service. Beautiful night out on the deck. The owner even sat down with us and chatted for a bit. Made us feel welcome and appreciated. Absolutely the best crawfish we've ever had.
Robert was very hospitable, we were hungry after our trip from polar express.
The best seafood i have ever eaten. The rum cake was out of this world. Highly recommend
This restaurant was extraordinary. The food was delicious and freshly prepared. The appetizers were beyond expectations. The servers were very kind and attentive, and were overall very welcoming. The restaurant was clean and well decorated. It is definitely a restaurant I will be going to more often. The fried mac and cheese balls were wonderful and the steaks are amazing. I definitely recommend this restaurant for a great cajun food outing.
We had the prime rib, and it was fabulous ! Grilled to perfection, tender and juicy. This was the first time I've ever had a smoked baked potato, and it was fantastic! More places should offer that. Mr. Robert was run off his feet. The place was just jumping, but he kept everything flowing, and it was just a really awesome dinner and overall experience. Also, the grilled shrimp was excellent.
I had the fried catfish. It was super fresh, hot, and ready fast. Robert was my server and did a great job.
Great food and server was great. Took a while to get a burger, but they have postings and advise that it takes longer for burgers and steaks because they make them fresh.
I love love love this place. Their waitress Jan and their Chef are amazing at their jobs and people. I had the Salmon in the steaks category today and it was seriously delicious. It was juicy, full of flavor and the sides of asparagus and broccoli were perfectly cooked. I will always come back here. -signed a Loyal customer.
First time here it was a great experience!! We got the boiled shrimp boil and it was amazing!
Oysters on half shell... SUPERB! Steak was EXCELLENT! Awesome staff.. we had Lauren she's fun and happy and terrific! The atmosphere was laid back, friendly. We were welcomed from the moment we walked in the door. AWESOMENESS!
I've been twice with my family. The food has been great both times, etoufee, fish tacos, grilled shrimp, frog legs twice.
I ordered the 20oz sirloin steak and a baked potato and the pinto beans for takeout. The entire order was enough for two full meals for myself! The steak was cooked to order and tasted great! The potato was baked out on the grill so it had a great flavor as well and the pinto beans were awesome! Great service and I was able to pick it up fresh off the grill in about 25 minutes!
Great little restaurant with good food. Very pleasant service. Robert was Johny on the spot on service. Definitely will return in the near future.
Man the food is on point here. Came for my nieces birthday. Quail poppers, loaded fries, Cajun egg rolls, tomahawk steak and the massive double bacon cheese burger.
Crawfish were good, but the shrimp was amazing. Hush puppies were delicious. Fresh Shiner on tap. Bar tender was very friendly and attentive. The only thing that wasn't spot on was my wife ordered hot and spicy grilled chicken breast but it was not spicy at all and her baked potato was a little under cooked. Overall it was great I will definitely return.
Big delicious cheese burgers and great fries. And cold Coors Banquet & IPA's beers... Great service by Kacie... We will be back..!!
Amazing place friendly staff let me order tomahawk steaks for my daughters birthday. Will definitely be going back. If you are in the area definitely a place to stop and eat!!! Thank you everyone one at Hambone's we loved it!!!!!
Clean and good stop for lunch .. Friendly staff Best pinto beans in the world !!!! Must be Ms SARAH Beans !!! 😎

Great place! Great food, great atmosphere and the friendliest staff in East Texas! It's our go to spot with friends and family.
My bestie and I went for dinner. The restaurant had a good size crowd when we entered yet we were welcomed in with Southern hospitality. We sat outside and Robert was our waiter. He recommended the special and it did not disappoint. If you have a chance to have a slice of Mama's Rum Cake, DO IT! I'm a pretty good amateur baker and I haven't (yet) come close to the perfect crumb that this cake has. I'll be bring my husband back for the well marbled steaks we watched get hand cut.
Absolutely amazing local place to visit! Best food ever! Everything we have gotten has been beyond delicious.
As a true Louisiana girl, this place offered home cooked meals in a completely different state. The food was delicious and the staff was so welcoming and kind towards us. If I ever find myself in this area again, I will certainly be coming back!
Steak was seasoned perfectly and cooked with perfection and with right temperature, so was everything else.... everything was delicious and on point. We will be back definitely.
Something to eat for everyone. The staff was very friendly and they make you feel at home. A little hard to find, but very good food and staff! I'll go back there!!

Crawfish has the best flavor I've ever had. Just a little over cooked or something though, they were hard to peel. Very soft and couldn't get the shell off without tearing the meat up.
4 stars only because I haven’t tried their other stuff on their menu, but MY GOD! Probably one of the best burgers in town! Their fries are to die for as well! Can wait to try more things! Literally a WHOLE IN WALL PLACE!
The food was great and the service was even better. The gentleman behind the bar was very nice and helpful. The only reason it's not getting 5 stars is because when I got my burger, the bun was pretty soggy which I'm just not a fan of. Otherwise, I loved it
Great local place to get some Cajun food. Our friends ordered the crawfish etoufee and absolutely loved it. I recommend the fried crawfish tail appetizer. During crawfish season they only do the boils on thurs-sat. We went on a wed, so my husband got the boiled shrimp. He loved it, just be cautious it is very spicy (my husband eats Thai spicy level 5 and said the shrimp were "spicy" that day). I do not recommend the grilled oysters as they were tiny and caked in parmesean. But we are anxious to go on a crawfish boil night and try it out to get a better feel for the place.

I tried a variety of items, starting with the Cajun fries and fried pickles. The fries were the highlight—topped with BBQ sauce, cheese, jalapeños, and chopped brisket. While the brisket was a bit on the fatty side, the overall flavor was delicious. The fried pickles were also excellent, featuring a perfectly seasoned batter. For the main course, I had the fish and shrimp. Unfortunately, this was just okay; the fish fillets were quite small and lacked flavour. However, the sides were a standout—both the coleslaw and hushpuppies were great. In the future, I’d likely skip the fried fish unless I paired it with a side of etouffée to give it a boost.

Nice people and what looked like good ambiance. Foods a little pricey and we thought we might need to help em hunt it down. But nice people. Looks like the kinda place that fills up with split tails after dark. Maybe it's just me, but I wasn't terribly impressed with the place
The last time I visited Hambones was prior to the COVID period. I was slightly disappointed in the menu selection and food quality as both had been reduced in my opinion. The staff continues to provide excellent service. Ordered fried shrimp baskets and fried green tomatoes. The costs were well above average at similar restaurants.
A bit more expensive and with less food. The shrimp and crawfish always good. The fried mushrooms are more batter than anything. The menu is pretty basic, meaning not a ton to offer. I'm not sure if this is my place to go anymore. Don't really recommend unless you're just looking for a bar with some food to pick at.
Nice place, friendly service. My Son ordered a steak and it tasted like lighter fluid. I ordered chicken fried steak, it wasn't done the gravey was too thick.
I finally got to eat here after hearing how great it was. It's just ok. I ordered the $45 ribeye, half of it was fat and it was pretty tasteless unlike a beef ribeye, you literally couldn't taste the beef, it was swollen with fluid like it had been boiled first. It was spiced and grilled after boiling. I was so hungry going in and after fighting with the steak for any nibbles of beef around the fat. I was hungry when I left. Definitely not worth $45. The asparagus was good , 5 spears. The baked potato was overcooked. I won't be back.
First time there, really didn't care for my crawfish it wasn't a fire like I asked for it didn't have a very good taste to it and my husband really wasn't to crazy about the fish meal he got .
Nice friendly place. Bunch of outdoor seating, some indoor seatting. Majority of the food was good but the stake was way over done from what we ordered. The booth seatting need replaced wasn't prepared for a hole in the seat that you couldn't see.
The crayfish was very small not worth what I paid. Then ask about the music was told we carter so certain clouds. Hal did change it but as soon as I walked out it was changed. The food is normally great but my experience tonight was not good and felt., my business was not apperceive. The wait staff was awesome. Will not be going back and will go across the street to Pint N Barrell. I love to contribute to local business but this has made me rethink my choices.
Must have put qratuity on check, and price of draft Coors $5! Wawa's is 3. Didn't get our coleslaw! Won't be back. Don't like shaking hands with owner while eating with hands! Catfish was good with fries, no coleslaw, 2 people 2 Coors each $80!
My opinion of this place has greatly changed and for the worse; I will not be coming back. Beside their prices have gone up again, there is a different price, not in print on the physical menu. They charged an extra $4.99, which is 25% higher than the menu's listed price. In response to the owners, the menu shown to me and my sister had the listed price of $20.
Oyster where fresh but no flavor. Never gt cocktail sauce or horse radish till almost gone or forks. Steaks cooked to order very good. Fried crayfish very good, green tomatoes OK at best. Pricing good. Still service not good no napkins silver ware. Baked potatoes came out after steaks were eaten. I see very nice over here about the amateurish wait staff and owner never responds to any negative reviews. FIX THE SERVICE OF WAITSTAFF, PROBLEM SOLVED Love sitting outside when cooler weather - fix ur service staff.
Found this place while in Palestine and it wasn’t quite what we were expecting. I myself got the never ending catfish but didn’t need a refill because they initially give you plenty! I’ll say the catfish was VERY tasty!! I don’t know if it’s because we are from Houston, but for us a seafood boil is way different than what was offered here. The crab and the shrimp were just literally boiled. Didn’t taste like anything or have any sauce. It’s not that they were bad they were plain and we’re not used to that. Also, we really wanted crawfish but our server, who was very nice by the way, said it was out of season so they didn’t have any. Again, we’re from Houston so it was strange to hear they’re out of season when I know here in Houston places are still serving them. Overall, I will not be coming back because I will not be in Palestine again. Would I recommend it? Yes if you’re gonna have the catfish or any other dish, I don’t recommend boil.

A friend and I drove from Nacogdoches County yesterday, and stopped in for a late lunch. She got the special grilled cheese, and I got the blackened catfish with mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus as my sides. She enjoyed her sandwich. My fish was tasty, However, the asparagus was stringy and inedible and I have never understood why places that have baked potatoes on the menu as a regular side would serve instant mashed potatoes. Plus, our lunch was accompanied by buzzing flies. Will I be back, nope, will I recommend, nope.

Bought 2lbs of crawfish and shrimp, neither were cooked all the way and it was just salty, it was not seasoned right at all. Food was cold and just not good. On top of it all we did not get the two pounds we ordered, I’ve been to multiple places and 2lbs of shrimp and crawfish has never been as small as what I was given.
Super long wait times, very unorganized, food was good when it came out but the management/ownership needs help. Our server tried the best she could to bandage the experience but it was obvious owners were there & not pitching in. We were not the only dissatisfied people
Ordered the prime ribeye steak and the prime New York steak. Ordered them both medium rare, they came out a little to rare which is not a problem at all, I think the coals weren't near hot enough as to what they should have been and our steaks were grossly over smokey. I don't mind paying a premium price for a good steak but it certainly was not worth the $40. I might try them again. We did go early and we were the only patrons.
Flys, farm raised overcooked shrimp and great service... I wanted to love this place, however the shrimp is clearly farm raised and was over cooked, they use fake "butter", my corn on the cob was boiled in plain water, no salt no spice. I just expected more after reading the great reviews. Our service was great, but poor quality ingredients and preparation made for an over unsatisfying experience. Also, they have to do something about the fly problem, we were inside and they were horrible.
Dined for lunch on 3/17/22. Ordered alligator app and two steaks. Alligator was good but small portion for the price. Both steaks had a good flavor but not worth the price. They didn't list prices on menu but I didn't ask either as I wasn't paying. The menus online were not the menus presented to us. When I reheated my left overs today I did not realize my $40 ribeye wS half fat and gristle. Not happy and won't return.
Hope you're not on a hurry. Steaks are inconsistent in size and cook. Way over priced for what you get. Service was the worst I've had in town in the 13 years that ive lived here. Steaks were under cooked and server didn't offer any kind of compensation or to take it back to the grill. Just said "sorry". People around us were literally screaming at the servers due to lack of service. Just poorly run.
Nightmare. Imagine walking into a restaurant hungry, ordering your meal, only to have them forget about your meal. Only one drink (in a can) without a cup and ice. Never was asked if we wanted another drink. Once they “realized” our forgotten meal (I’m already standing up to leave) they brought out the meal well after the rest of the table had already eaten and now was ready to leave. Once the meal came to the table I asked for butter and condiments and guess what…. They brought those out as we were walking out of the restaurant after eating the meal. Oh and the “tip” being automatically added on was a nice touch too. I will not only never come back here but I will make it a mission to warn everyone I meet about this place. Go anywhere else.
A party with 10 of us came in, the older gentleman server was trying his best hence the 2 star service. 4 out of 9 dishes came out wrong even though he took them down on the digital kiosk. Mashed potatoes were cold and tasted like powder spuds not fresh, gravy was cold and chicken fried steak was tough.
The overall experience was honestly pretty terrible. There was only a handful of patrons when we came in, yet we had to seat ourselves while staff behind the counter could be heard across the establishment going "where are the girls? we have people waiting." They had to go find our server and she was extremely inattentive the entire time we were there. Not once did she ask about refills, and others often had to go and retrieve her multiple times to tend to the few customers she had. EXTREMELY rude and condescending in her tone when she spoke to us. They were out of brisket, so we ordered relatively simple items and it still took over 30 minutes to get a sandwich and frog legs. I was brought tartar sauce when I asked for ranch. My sandwich was cold and soggy by the time we got our food, the shrimp was rubbery, and my partner was far from thrilled with his food, too. Nothing was good, much less worth paying for. The manager ended up comping our bill because of how poor everything was. Never coming back. Really don't recommend this place to anyone, either.
Their prices have gone through the roof. More than what was printed on the menu. Then they lied to me about it when I called. I will not be going back In response to your statement about the menu prices, your online menu still shows Regular etouffee for $18 and blackened/fried fish for $20. A 25 percent price hike is too much
Ordered two pounds of Shrimp, two dozen oysters, and one Shiner. It cost $85. They brought out the shrimp, with no sauce. Asked for some, and by the time they brought it the shrimp were completely cold. They then finally bring the oysters (small ones), with no horse radish, or lemon. Ask for that... No one ever asked if I needed another beer. Just me, and one other, and I left hungry. Service was trash. Never again.
We had lunch there the food was nasty heavy in oil very soggy and fornit to be call Cajun grill nothing Cajun about this food this food had no flavor and when I say no flavor I mean NO FLAVOR ! THIS WAS TASTELESS SOGGY FOOD . When the waitress ask if all was good I told NO , I told her the food was very oily and soggy and bland she didn't know what to do . As a waitress they supposed to fix the order but she didn't even offer to fix the problem . Over 60 dollars wasted .y'all won't be getting my money anymore . Now if y'all want Cajun food travel to Tyler and eat a Razzoo's Cajun Café now they know how to Cajun season their food ...

This was my first time there and probably my last, the food was not very good, I ordered chicken fried steak, the batter fell off the steak, the cream gravy didn't have any flavor, the food was warm when we got it. The service was not very good, they was not busy the day we was there, but the service was slow.
