We enjoy stopping in to Aroi for a quick lunch when we want something a little different. They have the usual favorites on the menu like pad thai, plus great soups and specials. Definitely worth trying!
My wife really likes or loves the place, me I like it because you can get your food without a lot of spice. This afternoon the outside patio was where we sat , very enjoyable.
Really good and fresh food. Decent friendly service. The food takes a while if they're crowded, but that's expected for made to order dishes.
This is a great place with great food. We probably eat here 3 times a week in Summer. The food is fresh and the service is friendly. The outside garden is relaxed and very comfortable.
This place is incredible and I recommend you think outside the box when ordering instead of just trying the usual Thai fare like Pad Thai try their specials and other dishes you wont find most other places for truly original dining experience.
I just had another wonderful meal at Aroi in Rhinebeck. Wife had veg pad Thai, I had chicken rice soup and chicken pad gar...? And coconut "ice cream"
Beautiful little place in the middle of a very touristy district. Great professional service and attention to details. Excellent food and exotic desserts. A little pricey, but you know that already.
Great food, amazing service! hard to find good thai food. They nailed it. This house has a great feel!
Stopped in for lunch after hiking in the area for the day. What a great choice! Friendly staff and service. And Tom Yum soup and Larb were very tasty!! Wish I lived nearby to try the other dishes on the menu. Highly recommend!
The service at Aroi is exceptional, with friendly and attentive staff who go above and beyond to make sure you are well taken care of while dining in, or out. Each dish is expertly prepared with the perfect balance of flavors and spices that highlight the best of Thai cuisine. The quality of the ingredients is evident, and each dish is a work of art that looks as good as it tastes. This will always be our go-to takeout in Rhinebeck!
We've dined at around many times... from our casual visits to rhinebeck every few months, to the super-busy Sinterklass festival weekend. The food is always great, the service always attentive and personable, and the price affordable. Highly recommended.
Excellent service and food. We are from NYC we have a lot Thai restaurants, I would rank this as one of the best. There are a lot of vegan options which are clearly written on the menu.
We dined at Aroi on the Saturday of Sheep and Wool so the place was packed and the staff was being run off their feet. We were seated within a few minutes of our reservation, the waitress was attentive, our food came out within a reasonable amount of time, and everything was delicious.
A really good meal. The food, friendly service, comfortable outdoor seating area were all great. Highly recommend.
Very quaint eatery on the main strip in Rhinebeck. Servers were pleasant and unobtrusive, but there if we needed them. Food was delicious! I love that it's in an old house, makes for a unique dining experience.
Sooo good!!! went for lunch with my son. The owner started us with Yuzu splitz while waiting for food, great citrusy summer drink. Big fat spring rolls and dipping chili sauce is out of the world, tender chicken satay is superb, pad Thai and give pineapple fried rice a try. Sorry guys too busy enjoying food, didn't get to take pictures. We will be back for full course meal with desert next time. Thanks for a treat!
Excellent authentic Thai cuisine served by a very friendly and attentive staff. Set in a quaint old house with great ambiance, this restaurant is one of Rhinebeck's best keep secrets. Very reasonable priced considering the quality of food and service. Love the green curry!
Delicious Green Curry dish. Spices are authentic Thai and the curry sauce is perfect. Would love if the the vegetarian version had Thai eggplant instead of red bell peppers, but either way, it’s delicious!
Everytime my wife and I go to aroi, we love it. The food is great, service is attentive, one of our favorite spots
Loved this restaurant! We had bubble teas and pad Thais! Forgot to ask for hot sauce. All dishes can be gluten-free which is a huge plus 💓
Amazing, friendly, and quick service. Dining area is set in quaint little house. Exceptionally crafted Thai noodle dishes. Amazing curries. Quiet. Wonderful place to talk with others over some delicious food.
All the food is brilliantly prepared. The presentation is elegant as well. The prices may be a little high but it's worth it. My favorite dish is the Tom Yum Guong, Thai Hot, it's a soup.
A more upscale Thai restaurant, though still reasonable prices. The entrees are consistently good, and there are usually seasonal items added to the specials menu. I had a massaman beef curry that had pineapples and Asian pumpkin instead of the usual potatoes, and it was delicious. The restaurant is located in an old house in rhinebeck that used to be a tea house, I believe, so it's not large, and dinner reservations are recommended around, during holidays, and on weekends. I think the thing that really makes aroi stand out is their really great desserts. I love their taro pearls in coconut cream served with sticky rice - this is probably my favorite of any dessert I've ever had. My husband loves the coconut ice cream, and they usually also have coffee ice cream, also really delicious. Since it's pumpkin time, they worked that into their dessert menu, offering something similar to the taro dessert. It may be the only Thai nearby, and it's definitely worth going to again and again. Make a night of it by going to a movie at upstate films just a block away.
This is one of the best Thai restaurants that I've been to. The food is absolutely delicious! And this is coming from someone who LOVES Thai food. There are plenty of vegan options to choose from. I highly recommend the Red Curry if you don't mind spicy food. The service here is AMAZING! It is mind blowing how fast the staff is able to get your food to you even with a full house! In addition to speedy service, the staff is friendly and attentive. When it comes to Thai cuisine, you can't got wrong with aroi.
Amazing place I love the atmosphere like a comfort of a home its so amazing
Would strongly recommend the thai spicy cashew with shrimp was well balanced and authentic. The service is quck and kind very pleased and will definitely be back again! My girl had the guava passion drink and was feeling great after 2 of them! I have gone back since and am proud to say they still are holding up and just as good!!
I ate there today for the first time and loved it! My review of what I ordered: Fried crab dumplings with sweet chili sauce: 10/10 Shrimp Pad Thai: 9/10 Lychee Lime Mint mocktail: 10/10 Pink Milk Smoothie with boba (to go): 7/10 (too small a serving for $8) The staff was very attentive and friendly. This was the best Thai food I've had since I moved away from NYC. I'd go every time I'm in the area.
Always a lovely experience! The menu has a great variety and the food is consistently excellent. The vegetables are perfectly cooked, bright colors and so fresh. The atmosphere is serene and the staff is friendly and happy. The restaurant is in an old building with interesting rooms, artwork and architecture. Great for date nite!!
I had the pork bao buns, green curry and Thai tea. It was amazing!! The rice is cooked perfectly, the pork was cooked just right, green curry was spicy but not too spicy! My favorite spot in Rhinebeck!! The service was also great, very sweet waitress!
I rarely write reviews, but today I had my second excellent experience at aroi. I had the red curry and my husband had the green curry. We split fresh rolls as a starter and shared fried ice cream for dessert. Everything was phenomenal. We like spice, and this is the only Thai food in the area that we find to be spicy enough :) The service was excellent and the food came out promptly. The atmosphere is clean and cozy. Can’t wait to go back!
So fresh! Delicious food, the red curry is amazing! They obviously cook to order, but not a long wait. Enjoy vibrant, fragrant, colorful, healthy food, and the dishes are beautiful - top notch. Set in a cozy, home-like historic Rhinebeck setting. Very clean and excellent service. Note:. Look ahead for open hours. Some days they are open for lunch, some not until dinner. Very highly recommend.
I was very happy with my experience at Aroi. The food was delicious. I had the Massaman Curry with vegetables and tofu and my fiance had the Thai Cashew Nut with tofu. Both dishes had a good amount of spice and flavor. The servers were also very attentive. I'm excited to revisit and try something else on their menu. I would recommend if you enjoy a relaxed atmosphere, good service, and yummy Thai food!
Absolutely marvelous garden. Delicious food and pleasant service. Just an all around wonderful dining experience
Try the special Ginger Chicken dish, it’s out of this world. Cozy inside dining rooms in an old house also has a nice outdoor garden with a water feature. Quaint intimate dining experience. Good food and friendly staff.
Incredible food, best Thai I’ve ever had. The kale chips and bao buns are to die for. The green curry and pad Thai are absolutely delicious. Wonderful friendly fast service. We went twice during a weekend stay!
We went last night and the food and service was terrific. My dinner was perfection on a plate, and the staff was super nice, even bringing an extra chair out so we could sit out on the front deck and enjoy the beautiful night.
We loved Aroi Thai! We sat outside and enjoyed a salad, veggie spring rolls, and crispy kale entree with salmon, then the coconut ice cream and pumpkin custard with sticky rice. All the food was phenomenal and our server was super friendly. Highly recommend!
Incredible food - got the kale chips, squid salad and massaman curry, with the Thai coconut ice cream. Great service and lovely interior. Many gluten free options.
I only had a light lunch here, but the food was wonderful! The bao buns with pork belly and spicy yuzu sauce were delicious. The pork was nicely grilled. The sauce added some sweetness and heat. The buns were soft and fresh. The tom yum soup delivered an amazing and intense flavor. The Thai iced tea pairs well and balances the sourness of the soup. The service was great and the restaurant was clean. Would recommend!
What a find!! Having been to many thai restaurants, This one is top of the list ! Sunday Afternoon lunch, no wait, delicious food, huge servings. The absolute best pineapple fried rice I've ever had, sweet and sour shrimp was perfection. Not salty or greasy. Photos of our entrees. Will be back whenever we're in Rhinebeck. Service was also excellent.
Always always always a great meal. I’ve dined in and done take out and it’s incredibly consistent. Try any of their fried tofu dishes. I like starting with tofu Tod. Their standards are always a must. But you don’t want to miss out on the Crispy Kale (try it with Duck or Thai Pork Sausage). And sit outside when it’s nice in their cute garden seating.
Had a lovely date night at aroi. The food and atmosphere were amazing. Traditional Thai food that warms the soul. The curry is out of this world. I will be going back for the Thai iced tea alone. Rhinebeck has a lot to offer for window shopping as you are walking off a delicious meal as well. Highly recommended. Chris@ North East Ford
The best Thai food around! My little family adores this place! We never go in but we always order take out. Usually weekly! When I want "cozy" comfort food, this is it! Our top favorite is the Red Curry with chicken, chicken pad thai, fresh shrimp rolls, mee krob (with the yum mango its delicious), yum mango, the buns they've had recently, tofu tod and their thai ice tea! Everything is flavorful and delicious. The people who own this place are awesome and friendly. One thing I do want to point out to the owners is I've noticed within the past month the fresh rolls have a different smell to them. I can't pinpoint it but I think it may be the rice noodle. I'm not sure If you have changed the type or brand but we definitely prefer the older recipe. I didn't notice any smell to it then. My husband doesn't mind tho!! LOL! We are so thankful you guys are local. See you soon!
Aroi cares about Thai food, and they have some very good offerings. Dining room is bigger than the restaurant may appear if you drive by. Outdoor seating available too. We usually get takeout from Aroi, and we have been going back when we need some good Asian food in the Rhinebeck area.
Great service and delicious Thai food!!! I don't have much to say except for I loved the seating areas both inside and out, and our food was all well made :)
Kale chips were crispy, sweet, nutty, and tart. So yummy. Fun to sit outside. A lotta flies, though. Very great service! Helpful and friendly.
We had spring rolls for lunch they were very hot and not greasy and they served them with sweet chili sauce. We had to ask for soya sauce and for chopsticks. They were good. I took the tofu vegetable broth soup and it was just right the quantity. I also had the chicken with basmati rice and veggies. Too much rice and not enough chicken. Their food was bland but it tasted like home made and fresh. I also opted for no spice as in no chilli but I guess the chef skipped on the herbs. The place was clean and the service was quick. The people were also very polite.
A pleasant dining experience: good service, modest Asian-themed decor, satisfying dinners. While we were seated indoors, there is a nice patio that was filled with diners that night, all seeming to have a good time.
We visited this place few weeks ago, so don't recall which dishes we ordered but we do remember it was good Thai food! However, it you're coming on a busy time, recommend you get a reservation.
Been coming here for long time. I am local. Great place and great atmosphere good food. Has got pretty pricy though and because of that I’ve started looking for other alternatives. Would recommend to a friend.
Very nice lunch at this Thai restaurant in Rhinebeck. The restaurant has a very nice ambiance, nicely decorated with tables spread far enough apart that you can have a private conversation. The wait staff is courteous, but unfortunately didn't check once on us. We'd have wanted a refill on our water on this hot and humid day. They have a nice specials and lunch menu (separate from regular menu) and the portion sizes are nice enough that you don't have to take leftovers home. Our party of 2 had the tofu green curry and avocado fresh rolls. There is plenty of parking lots nearby, as well as street parking. Nice lunch.
The rolls were fresh and the sauce tasty and not overly sweet. The vegetable pad see ew was what I expected, savory and tasty, with bits of tofu. Portion was right sized for lunch. I would have liked to have gotten chopsticks with my meal but overall very nice experience and courteous waiter.
I started coming here for pickup during the COVID pandemic and the staff impressed me with their attentiveness to cleanliness and social distancing. Food is fantastic and the portion sizes are generous for the prices. Recommend for vegetarians (pad see ew with tofu is my regular order), gluten free, and anyone who enjoys delicious Thai food!
As far as Thai goes, pretty good. Food was flavorful. Service though... not great. I had to get up from my table twice, once to ask for chop sticks, again to all for more water. Once they dropped the food off, they never came back except to drop off the check. When I got up to ask for chop sticks, 2 waitresses were sitting around the corner chatting. So while food was pretty good, not sure I'd go back due to the service.
This is a cute little Thai restaurant in town. What I like about the food is that you can adjust the heat or spiciness of the food. Thai food doesn’t taste well when it’s bland without any heat I ordered a Kra Prow with white Rice. The staff was friendly and attentive. Good food. There is an outdoor sitting area as well.
Decent Thai food, lime in our pad Thai costs extra and we didn't get it in our order. Quick and friendly service though.
Some of the dishes are great but more than a few are watery, bland and seem thrown together without through of flavor. I’ll still eat here but the curries are quite bland.
Quality has dropped substantially on my last 7 visits and prices have gone up. $20 for a chicken pad thai that was mostly noodles was a big disappointment today so had to leave a review. I have been a big fan for many years but like I said prices are way up and quality has become less than average on the regular.
Small, expensive menu troubled by bland food. While far from the worst Thai I've tried, this place panders more to the "white bread" American palate than Thai food perhaps should. Small portions, high prices, bland food and awkward seating earns this restaurant only 3 stars in my opinion.
Unfortunately disappointing, the pad see ew was very bland and the steamed dumplings were underwhelming, particularly to get 3 dumplings for $7. May come back again to give it another go, but it won't be too soon.
This review is mostly due to very surprisingly small portions even though the food was decent. Had the weekday lunch specials and okra fries. The portions were so small all of us left lunch still hungry. I understand that most businesses had their margins reduced due to recent inflation, however if you increased the price of the menu already, you really should’t be also reducing the portion size. I really hope the owners will read this review and rethink the portion sizes. Until then it’s unlikely that we will revisit this place.
Food was good though our dessert came out still frozen in the middle and they did bring us another which was great.. The portions were small for the price. The flavor was good though. Small place, staff was very loud in the kitchen and and we were seated right next to the kitchen
I was kinda bummed out by my dinner, especially since this place had pretty decent reviews on here. It wasn't bad necessarily, it just wasn't great either. My husband and I ordered spring rolls (which he didn't like) that were much more like a Chinese restaurants egg rolls. I didn't think they were bad, but not what we were expecting. My massaman curry was flavorful, but like other reviews on here there were NO vegetables - which is disappointing. Also there happened to be no peanuts and like, 3 chunks of pineapple. So the curry was delicious, but left me wanting a lot more to the dish itself. But in the end, the meal was inexpensive enough for us really not to be too upset about it. Moral of the story, don't go in expecting to be blown away. Its just alright.
Situated in an old house this place has a bit of charm. We were in what would have been the home's dining room. The ceilings are low (about 7 feet) so sound was an issue. I could hear even the softest conversations happening all the way across the room. Service was okay. Had to wait a bit for our food. Curry dishes (had green and red), were okay. Not the most flavorful I've had, but not the worst either. On the high side for price, but it's downtown Rhinebeck, so to be expected.
Average restaurant. Decent taste but I had ordered a meal with chicken and it was dry and also had very few pieces but the sauce saved the meal, and the vegetables like the carrot and onion are a little undercooked but I don’t really mind that. The only problem is that the potatoes are undercooked as well. Not a great deal considering how much you’re paying with average quality. The massaman curry has good flavor though
Good atmosphere, friendly staff, the food was average, not bad not great. Prices were ridiculous for the small portions. Moo Nam Tok grilled pork salad $20 for mostly iceberg lettuce and shredded carrots with literally 7 thin slivers of pork. Chicken Pad Thai was the best dish but spread thinly over a plate that was again 1/3 shredded carrots $21. Green curry tastes like diluted mae ploy mixed with sweet coconut milk $23. Sticky rice was way overcooked. In my opinion, really quite poor value. I guess you're paying to feel like you're in some kind of new age massage parlor??
I wish I could say the food is average, that would be generous. I would say this is the weakest Thai food I have eaten anywhere in the USA for over 2 decades Nothing tasted well, chopping and prep style was below par and it seemed they just throw in whatever comes to mind. Veggies half cooked or uncooked. Tom yum soup with no lemongrass. Flavoreless shrimp and chicken. The only item reasonably good was the papaya salad. Not sure what is going on - staff seems authentic, food not so much. .
I received a gift certificate and decided to try two vegetable curry dishes and a soup. I am so glad I did not pay for this food or else I would have been very upset. There were very few vegetables and they were obviously once frozen and VERY overcooked. The menu is way overpriced, especially for how terrible the veggies were. The flavor of the curries was acceptable but that is the best I can say about it. I will NOT go back to this restaurant. Very disappointing.
I really liked your food several years ago however lately you’ve raised prices ( which I understand due to supply chain and inflation) however you hAvent kept the integrity of the food. My curry was extremely watery , lacked flavor and you used celery as filler in a paanang curry :( super bummed.
UPDATE: Went again 3 years later and it was a really strange experience with similar quality problems. I feel like the prices here are very very high for the quality of food served if you are a vegetarian/vegan. The meat dishes all looked nicely prepared and garnished but the veg dishes we ordered felt like there was no care put in. The dishes were sweet and otherwise flavorless, and should have cost $12 max rather than $17. The service and staff are SO nice and respectful so it hurts that the food is so sub-par that I had to remove another star from my review. PLEASE improve your vegetarian/vegan dishes and PLEASE add some kind of herb or fresh chili and PLEASE use fresher vegetables. The lack of care and standards show in the vegetarian/vegan food specifically. Once again, the staff were lovely and attentive - the food just really needs a lot of work. ----------- Wanted to like the food a lot more than I did. The appetizer was great but my ‘Crispy Kale’ entree didn’t taste Thai at all and tasted like lays BBQ potato chips. Weirdly disappointed. Not bad food, just not worth the prices at all. Good service but no water refill.
I have had take out twice from here in a short amount of time. New to the neighborhood and had heard it was good. First time I ordered fresh rolls that were small and lacking much inside them and fried rice that was very oily and left me with a stomach ache. I said I’ll try it again picked up spring rolls they were fine and Pad Kee mao and it smelled fishy and tasted off. The chicken was dry and the onions on it made the whole dish taste weird along with a lacking flavor and again very oily. Considering they are quite expensive definitely will not be going back anytime soon. I never write reviews but it is no fun to see places charging a lot and not delivering quality food.
Sorry to write this, but Aroi restaurant should know how disappointed we are and how bland and boring their food is. Even the chili sauce didn't help. I rarely review, and usually only to praise but to present Thai food - one of the most tasty, unique and delicious cuisines of the world- this way, I have to say something. I had massaman curry and it tasted like vegetables boiled in water, there was no flavor at all, my husband's food was the same- we barely ate (we should have said something but we were with friends) The outside garden is nice. Service is ok.
Just ok... not what I expected from the reviews. Flavorful sauces yes. Salmon was overcooked, dry and not fresh. House made sausage had a weird texture and taste. The chicken satay was also overcooked, tough and dry. It was overpriced for quality of food. NO cocktails.... just wine and a couple of beer selections. Service was friendly and quick.
I found the food to be good enough but unimaginative, i.e. like most Thai restaurants I've been to. OK, maybe that's OK because it might mean it's authentic. Whatever. The service was fine until we paid our bill. We were still sitting at our table, and one of the staff asked us to free the table up since it was reserved. I can't think of a worse thing to do. If someone can't get in, they might come back. I've been kicked out, and you can be sure I'll never go back. I explained how I felt, and they were apologetic, but the damage was done. And they didn't offer any kind of compensation. This kind of insult hasn't happened to me in about 40 years. If you own or manage a restaurant, don't ever do this to a customer. You will lose. Oh, and just as we were leaving, several tables opened up, so it was unnecessary to ask us to leave.
Not authentic Thai food. Very bland and overly sweet. Pad Thai tasted like low mein. Every dish lacked the flavor you should associate with Thailand, lemongrass, lime, cilantro and tamarind. The vegetables were peas, carrots, onions, and peppers. These vegetables are rarely found in authentic Thai food. Very disappointing.
Drove over an hour to eat here and a paper sign on the door says "Closed today." Would really appreciate an update of hours if they do not follow their standard and ADVERTISED hours of operation. BUT they are the most amazing Thai restaurant in the Hudson Valley if not New York. Delicious and highly recommend the food. Just make sure you call to make sure they are actually open. UPDATE 4/23/2020: Changed it back to a 1-Star due to driving here today only to find out that they decided they were going to open at 4PM today instead of their advertised 11:30AM for lunch. It is really so simple to update hours online, not post on it on piece of handwritten paper at the door. Be careful, these people only open when they feel like it.
We were greet and seated very quickly but it was Saturday night and they only 2 wait staff that we saw running around between inside and outside seating so when I had to get up fews time and find them. I order chicken Tom yum soup, small bowl with fews pieces of thin chicken and nothing else, the broth were light on taste …for $9 it was a lot. My brother order shrimp pad see ew which is stir fried noodle, it came a bit burnt and very little on the flat plate for $24 so he order extra rice to eat it … we were so hungry so we just ate them. So for 1 spring roll , 1 small bowl of soup , 2 small bowl of rice and 1 stir fried noodle and no drink we end up paid $60 and still hungry when we left.
The fact that you’re the only Thai restaurant around doesn’t mean you can serve such poor food and have such poor service. man it was so bad. Green curry was so blend and watery and vegetables tasted like a generic frozen veggie mix. Pad Thai Tate’s nothing but a pile of noodles with melted sugar on them. Spring rolls were ok, kale chips was not good. We never got the Thai ice tee we ordered but they were still trying to charge us for it. Also had to ask for utensils after a few minutes having our first courses on the table waiting for someone to notice. Everything about this place was disappointing.
This is, without a doubt, the worst Thai food I’ve ever encountered. At the same time, it’s also the most expensive Thai food I’ve ever encountered. The green curry is a sad, sickly vat of water with celery and broccoli in it. It has a searing, blunt heat with no umami and no distinctive flavor beyond what you’d get from shotgunning Tabasco. I have no idea why people are giving it anything above one star, but if you’re reading this and you’ve ever had Thai food anywhere else in this world— please don’t make yourself sad by dining here. Get a frozen Thai dinner from a supermarket before you lower yourself to this level! $90 for two vats of green misery plus some limp spring rolls and— the standout here— mango sticky rice that I was able to eat more than three bites of.
Curry is ok, but the portion of the Tom Yum soup(shrimp) ~$20, is just…. funny? ?? Tofu Tod is just precooked frozen food from Asian supermarket, and tinny portion too. Even the high end Thai foods I ate don’t come with portions like that.
