The food here is always fantastic. We eat here regularly and have never had a bad meal. The red wine gravy with their Sunday roast is a highlight and you always get plenty of it with your meal! It's also great for any dietary requirements with lots of gluten free and dairy free options. The staff are also fantastic and can't do enough for you.
Friday 6th February 2026 Tonigbt i drank in this really busy wooden floored pub with small room and great charachter There was a beautiful choice of hand pulled ales on great staff buisy working away teally pleasurable people dring good real ales in here This pjb is a propper British real ale pub Keep up the good work all onvolved with the pub

A great experience! Met up with some friends in the area, we needed somewhere dog friendly and allergen friendly and The Great Northern Pub was both! As someone who observed a gluten free diet it can be tricky to eat out, but GBPK had great knowledge of allergies and made me feel that my food was completely safe. The staff are friendly and welcoming, if I am ever in the area again I will be returning!
Hands down the best pub in St Albans. The staff are delightful and it just has the warmest and friendliest atmosphere. Shout out to Andrew for being the best bartender X
It's such a pleasure coming to this pub. From the very first time I popped in in 2018, to today, it has continued to be incredibly welcoming. There's a brilliant selection of rotating ales, good lagers and ciders and a brilliant menu of food. I love sitting outside in the renovated garden in the summer too. Also, Pete puts on the best pub quiz I've ever attended every Tuesday evening. Friendliest bar staff out there as well! Such a pleasure to be a customer of this pub!
Really enjoyed my stop at Great Northern Pub & Kitchen. Warm atmosphere, relaxed service, and food that’s genuinely well made. It’s the kind of place that feels immediately familiar — cosy lighting, good plates, and no unnecessary fuss. Ideal for a quick solo dinner while you wait for your trains or catching up with friends. Would happily come back.

Have come here a few times, it's a lovely local pub. They often have live music on. Last time we were served by Sarah who is super friendly, she stayed and chatted with us and gave us great food and drink recommendations.
Very good food and beers, good garden space including outside sheltered area (the dog house). Dog friendly. Quiz every Tuesday evening which is both popular and great fun.
Decided to explore away from central St Albans and found a great locsl where Madge was a star. People knew her famous Dad Flat Eric. Had Harvey's Sussex best..lovely. Food looks good. Surprisingly large beer garden.
Very cosy place with good selection of drinks and food. Apparently chicken wing are pretty hot but very tasty. Sunday roast was great with but portion and staff was very friendly. Definitely coming back
