Omg!!! My husband and I saw a video from NY Insider on FB before we moved here..and the food looked so good! We finally went today and OMG!!! Everything was amazing..the atmosphere, the staff and it was clean! The food was so GOOD!!! We order the Gyro plate..the small size which is enough to feed 4 adults!! We will definitely come back!!
We have a winner here! The lemon potatoes are the best I've ever had. The grilled halloumi with tomatoes and cucumbers is SO delicious. And the Greek salad is always fresh and crisp. Gyro World is a much needed addition to the neighborhood. I highly recommend you give them a try.
Authentic, delicious Greek food. Try their "make a meal" combo, where you get a gyro sandwich, pick a meat (lamb beef chicken), a salad or a soup, and another side - meshed potatoes, fries, rice. The gyros are in fairly big size and the sauce is fresh and delicious. Try their lemon soup which is unique and delicious.
Love this place. The food is great and the people are friendly. Usually get the pork or lamb gyro but today I had souvlaki it was great. Love talking to the lady cashier she is both beautiful and friendly. Five big stars.
Food is great. Especially love the beef gyro meat. We like to get the sampler meat platter ( it says it feeds 3 people) and take it home to serve with some salad. For us, it feeds 6 and we are HUNGRY people so I'd say it's a great deal! Also the onion rings are bomb- super crispy and dont get soggy!
The food here is pretty good and inexpensive for the portions! We regularly get the beef and lamb gyro sandwich and it has never failed us! They also deliver pretty quickly which is so convenient. I’ve had the souvlaki here before and it was also pretty good, fresh and meaty. I recommend this if you’re good for a delicious gyro.
I loveee their food, there was a point in time I had gyro world every day for a week. This place makes the best food and the environment and people are so nice! GRILLED CHICKEN pita sandwich, must give a try! The best ever
My Greek family introduced me to the place and regularly orders from here. That alone should speak for itself. Some of the best gyros in the world. Souvlaki is delicious, and if you haven’t squeezed lemon over it, DO IT, you don’t know what you’re missing! Love the tzatziki too. Everything is so good.
We ordered online for our first time and was really pleased. The online menu was easy to navigate (so many websites aren't). The order was delivered faster than expected. We had beef and lamb gyros, chicken souvlaki, lemon potatoes and spanakopita. All portions were a generous size and very tasty. Everything was packaged nicely, with custom branded logos. Price was reasonable, given the high quality and large portions. Wonderful! Will order again soon. Highly recommend! AAA +++
Great options for different eaters. I normally do not like sauces, but their szusiki yogurt sauce - spelled wrong) sauce was amazing. Kids had chicken fingers - so delicious, hamburgers too. The atmosphere was great for us to all meet with kids. Friendly staff. We had a great get together there.
Always enjoyed their gyro & souvlaki at their Flushing location!! They also have this delicious combination platter for two or four that I always order! They really are for more people than that! Big winner with my family and everyone gets to eat what they like!! Their new Astoria location is great also!!👍👍
Our food was Delicious!!! I had the vegetarian wrap. It was loaded with veggies and grill haloumi. The cheese was great and squeaky, curd lovers will know what I mean. My son had the loukaniko platter. Very generous portion of tasty sausage and lemon potatoes.
Amazing service & the food is so good! Definitely worth every penny. General Manager was very nice!
The gyros here are amazing. The closest you can get to a gyro from Greece without actually being there. The meat is flavorful without being to greasy, the vegetables are bright and fresh, and the fries are delicious too. The service is also great.
Delicious food. The manager was so very nice with my kids, offering chocolate if they ate all of their food, and even running next door to buy crayons because my kids asked for them and they were out! We will definitely be back!
First I tried it at a friends Christmas party. The first bite magically transported me to Greece. The second time I took the train to Astoria. Great authentic gyro place. The spinach pie was pretty good too. A+ for the Greek soda selection too.
Visited from Houston, TX with a friend who is Greek. I had the pork souvlaki, it was juicy, tender, and charred just right. Every bite was wonderful. A Greek salad and lemon potatoes accompanied it and were also delicious. Tried a falafel off my sisters plate; moist and just the right crunch on the outside. Really enjoyed our meal here and the service was excellent. We stopped in about 9:00 pm. They close at 10pm but let me tell you, they did not rush us. Great place to have Greek food. A++++
Always walked by this place and payed it no mind. I stopped by tonight for a quick post workout meal. The food was good and fresh. The service was even better. They had many staff members whom where very attentive and friendly. The place and bathrooms were very clean. Well done!
Although they’ve only been open one week I was very pleased with everything Gyro World had to offer. Beautiful decor, attentive staff and most importantly delicious food means that gyro World will be my go to spot whenever I’m in the neighborhood. I’d highly recommend the lemon potatoes which were out of this world (no pun intended) and their pork gyro. Give this place a try you won’t regret it!
Ordered a gyro world plate (party tray of food of all their meats) as I normally do for my wife and I so we can have left overs. Accidentally ordered to the wrong location and the employees were super friendly and called the other location and told them that they would fulfill the order even though the other store already completed my order. 100% my fault and the store didn't have to do that for my mistake but super appreciative and well always come back for the platter. I can never decide on which meats to get so the gyro world plate gives you the best variety.
We order lunch a few times a month from here consistently. The food is always fresh, hot and on time. Gyros, souvlaki and salads are the main go-to. My only complaint would be that the fries are soggy at times but that’s minor.
pork souvlaki was super tasty. really crispy and the flavor was incredible.
Their food good and service is good This establishment uses third party delivery men, and could lose business over this matter. People they use for deliveries want more tip money and they stay outside the door waiting. They refuse to give the customer their delivery until they get tipped. I am speculating that delivery guy may add tipps to your credit card beware.
This place is amazing. The food , the service and the music are fantastic. I’m assuming the man at the register is the owner. He’s a hero.
My mom and I came here for lunch and it was her first time (my 3rd). We ordered two Beef Lamb Gyro Sandwiches and they were perfect as usual. The meat is sliced paper thin and the pita was so soft and fresh. Service was friendly and attentive. Restaurant is very clean as well as the restrooms. My mom loved it and we will return.
The food is not only delicious but the staff are amazing! The gentleman named Carlos, with the tattoos was very entertaining! While you are hungry and wait for your food, he helps you to order more and more food! I asked is he trying to get us fat? He has a great sense of humor! Will be returning! I already got extra flyers he gave me and sent to my coworkers! He is very innovative for business! Great job Gyro World Astoria!!
Chicken souvlaki is tender and tasty. Delicious! I didn’t receive pita which usually comes with the meat
Enjoyed the gyro, just wish they served a decent portion. Overall the experience and food is great.
I'm not Greek but I love the food I had the chicken slovaki lunch/dinner box and my brother had the pork box. Food is great and fresh. Location is very convenient. Price is a bit pricey but pretty standard for Greek food in the neighborhood. Overall a great place to hang out with family and friends to enjoy some good food in a relaxed environment
Still is the best gyro place in Astoria!! Super friendly everything tastes great!!! Tyrokauteri (spicy feta) is out of this world, tzatziki, lemon potatoes incredible. Don't forget to taste their house rice pudding!!! Keep up the amazing work guys !!! Please come to Staten island too we need you there too!!!!
I've been coming to Gyro World for many years, and they never disappoint! Every visit is a treat, with their authentic Greek gyros consistently delivering fantastic flavor. The quality and taste keep me coming back time and again. Highly recommended for anyone craving a delicious gyro!
I love the hamburgers in this place and the salads! Now they have some tables out side but it is kind of warm and they doesn't have umbrella. You can bring great food for home if you don't like too much sun. Las hamburguesas son deliciosas, ahora mismo no hay sombrillas afuera y cuando hace sol no es tan confortable pero puedes llevar deliciosa comida a tu casa.
Lunch special, nice little greek salad with a grape leaf wrap, could have used a second olive. well.stuffed and wrapped, Hot beef and lamb gyro, nice spice, soft warm grilled pita, good sauce, few sliced red onions and a tomato slice. Special included a can of coke. Good value, good quality food.
I used to go to the one in Bayside, I was surprised to see there was one in Astoria. The quality of the food is very good, it's a bit too greasy though which is not really a problem. The staff here were very polite and serviced us very well. I had the lamb + beef gyro with a side of fries. If you come here make sure to get "Greek fries" instead of regular fries.
Excellent overstuffed gyros with a positive customer service experience. Very nice packaged treats available which make for excellent gifts. But be sure to bring a nonsense facemask as they are one of those places overly concerned about obeisance and possibly fearful of the imaginary "virus".
Bright and clean with pleasant staff. I didn't see a lunch special (maybe we were too late at 230pm). Salads we plenty big ($9 each). I was surprised that a greek salad didn't come with feta - when I asked for it they brought a slab, though. My friend got a salad and asked for no onions, but it came with scallions (interesting). The fries were tasty and a pretty big portion - $6. Would go back again.
Staff is friendly. Place is nice. Food is delicious. But I paid $14 for a lamb and beef gyro (which I don't mind) but I was hoping for it to be a respectable size lol. If youre near here, definitely check it out!
Ordered for pick up. Had lamb gyro. It was bland, not too much flavor compared to other gyro sandwiches ive had in other places. Also found a short hair in one of the gyros i bought. It was on the top as soon as i opened so i just took it off.
Well visited place. Took out two lamb gyro sandwiches with all “toppings” on 4 pm, when the store was empty. They prepped the sandwiches within 10 minutes. Size is good, meat was a bit salty and fatty, but that’s often the case. The salad was not dressed and there were tomato pieces worth one slice on it. The raw red onions were thinly sliced, but unfortunately very pungent and dominant. We sorely missed the tsatsiki on the sandwiches. I didn’t think that it should be necessary to ask for it again. All in all, it was a underwhelming gyro sandwich, although the freshness and quality was definitely ok. But it didn’t hold up in the taste department.
We were in this area and decided to pop in for lunch. The gyros were very good and fresh. Nice atmosphere.
I love this place, their chain is always consistent with flavor. Quick tip- feeding a large group (perfect for football Sundays) get the gyro world platter.. mix of their meats, sauce and pita.. it’ll feed the group well!! It’s usually the reason I’m there (also a good way to meal prep to hit your protein goals)
Recently ordered takeout from Gyro World Astoria, and while the food was delicious, there were a few things that stood out. I got the chicken platter with lemon potatoes and a small Greek salad. The flavors were on point—the lemon potatoes were especially tasty, and the Greek salad dressing had just the right tang to it. However, I have to say the portion sizes were a bit disappointing. For the price, I expected a little more, but what I did get was fresh and flavorful. Overall, the quality of the food is excellent, but a slightly more generous serving would make the experience perfect. Would definitely order again, but hoping for a little more next time!
Passed by today the first time after perhaps a couple years. Changes have taken place for sure. Its self service, no seating inside, just outside or pick-up to go. The back is under construction for a café extension, so at the moment the rest room is out of service. Admitetdly their prices are a bit high. Conversely however, the location, taking into account the pandemic we just went through should be considered as a major factor to the price structure. The seating arrangements, may be temporary-not sure-partly due to the pandemic partly due to construction? At any rate, all the above were surpassed by the counter service we received and the quality and quantity of food that came with the order. Dimiris was very friendly, very polite and the food prep was quite swift. I believe the establishment will find its balance and will do good. I would recommend this place as one of the go to gyro (and more) spots in the area. Give them a try.
My own experience in Gyro World wasn't that good! Their food is extremly expensive and not even that good! For $10 you get a pita that is not really flavourful! I felt like for the hefty price tag on the food it was supposed to be better! The service in general was fast and kind, but that doesnt change the fact that everything is expensive without reason!
Nice place, new. I ordered a beef/lamb gyro to go. Decent amount of meat, fresh toppings. As with a lot of Gyro houses, they we're stingy on the white sauce so you may need to ask for extra. Also, ask for it to be on top of the meat instead of on the bottom so you can get the full flavor. Follow up: 2 months later I come back and order another gyro. This time around I order extra meat and a side of tzatziki sauce. There is nothing worse than eating a gyro and getting the end wishing for more. A lot of meat, messy sauce, fresh tomato and raw onion...yum. This is how I remember gyro's being. I'm not sure what's happened over the years but my order of yeteryear's style will set you back $12.50. Turned out to be yummy and I was full, just like I remember.
Great experience but we went there for the lemon potatoes specifically. We got there 8pm and had run out of lemon potatoes. They managed to give us the last bunch but wasn't that many. I am not complaining about the potatoes but it makes me wonder about bad business management, they can't calculate how many potatoes they need on a Sunday? Bad news for a business. What else can they not calculate.
Been trying to find a good Gyro spot for a while b/c the one near me on 21st & 36th St don't make fresh Gyro. So I tried this spot b/c it's part of a chain from Bayside. It looks almost exactly like it. I ordered 2 Gyro sandwich's and a side order of fries to go. I get in the bag 1 Gyro inside with fries. I had told the guy I wanted a side order of fries not a combo on top of that he only gave me 1 Gyro of which I also said 2 Gyro's. During check out I noticed the price of the Gyro was $19 each, I was like why is it so expensive, other spots charge like $10 to $12. The Gyro's was good and packed with meat and the fries were good as well, but it does not justify $19 a Gyro. I will think about coming here next time until I find another spot to order.
Just had a quick lunch there. Ordered lemon potatoes and a gyro sandwich. Potatoes were just ok. Had better IMO but the sandwich wasn’t bad at all. Owner (I think?) brought it to my table which was a nice touch. $2.50 for a bottle of water was kinda steep but I guess cost of living these days LOL. Would definitely return for the future.
There are a number of renowned Greek restaurants in the area, but I was looking for something quick & happened upon Gyro World; all that to say I knew what I getting into. I got the halloumi platter, which comes with an abundance of food—grilled halloumi, cucumbers, tomatoes, onion, a side & a soup or salad. I found the αβγολέμονο (avgolemono) to be unnecessarily salty & very light on λεμόνι (lemon). Fortunately, the platter was served with a lemon wedge, which was helpful in getting the soup & lemon potatoes to their appropriate state of lemoniness. The halloumi, while not the best I’ve ever had, was good. The pita, however, seemed to be an afterthought—dense & chewy, rather than ready & scrumptious. I would definitely stop back in, if I find myself in the area & in need a quick meal.
Food was served in take out boxes. Gyro slices seemed to have been microwaved rather than sliced off the spit before service. No different than something I can get from a grocery store. Far different experience, quality and taste than the last time I visited 3 years ago.
I’m extremely disappointed in gyro world. I personally buy from the flushing store and have never got this experience. I called ahead and ordered 3 lamb gyros and 1 chicken souvlaki, they told us 20 min, 35 min later I go in and the food is not ready, I sit and wait a additional 15 min and no food. While I’m standing there I see the guy cut the meat from the spit and put it directly in the sandwich without grilling it, he added lettuce that I told them not to put, and the pita was super stiff. The worst gyro I’ve ever had. The lamb meat smelled like freaking lamb, like I was eating an actual lamb. I wouldn’t go back there. And not to mention I freakin paid almost $75 for 4 things. The 2 stars instead of 1 is because gyro world flushing is ok. you guys need to do better with staff, they don’t even acknowledge you, I can’t be waiting almost a hour for 3 gyros.
You could get better tastes from a food cart. The taste of the gyro that had been ordered, was to say the least... underwhelming. This was due to how 75% of it was meat. Other than meat, there was only tomatoes (that were large cut and so it was hard to bite into) onions and tzatziki sauce. No French fries or lettuce. Aside from taste, the cup I received smelled weird. I don't know how to explain it, but it was weird. Along with this, I asked for napkins and they gave just two napkins. The reason as to why this establishment recieved a two rather than a one is because the waiter was prompt most of the time and the food didn't make me hurl.
The rice was uncooked and hard to chew. The gyro arrived cold and didn't taste fresh. Tried this spot for the first time and was extremely disappointed.
We have been ordering from Gyro World for past year now, and we usually get a good deal on Uber Eats (buy 1 get 1 lunch/dinner box). My family and I love their chicken souvlaki box and that is what we typically order. Can't go wrong with a simple Greek chicken souvlaki platter especially in Astoria, right?! Well .... Wrong. We ordered last week and it was a disaster. The rice was undercooked, and the Greek salad came with a creamy mustard dressing. This had never occurred in the past. My daughter is severely allergic to sesame seeds, yet the menu does not did not state this. Many people are allergic to seeds and this is something that can be life threatening so please let your customers know this! Although I am not Greek, I am from Astoria born and bred and this is the first time I come across Greek salad with a creamy mustard dressing. To make matters even worse, I call them since I tasted mustard in dressing and wanted to make sure since my daughter is allergic. The gentleman on phone checked with the kitchen and the confirmed. He then hands the phone over to the "manager", a lady who went on a rant about how she had been working there for 15 year?! No ma'am you guys have only been there for 8 years. She got so defensive stating that their salad has "always" come with that creamy mustard dressing. Nope, I've only gotten it with red wine vinaigrette. She never apologized and was so unprofessional and confrontational and just because of that, we will never, ever order from you again. Good riddance, and Gyro Lady from now on it will be!
Food was really bad (hard to find this bad food in NYC). We had the chicken gyro; it was very hard and chewy, super salty- basically tasted like it was few days old. Not recommended.
We ordered buy one get one special for the dinner box, was excited to try out a local restaurant. However once it arrived, The portion size of the chicken and potato was laughable, we were so confused. We called the restaurant to make sure we got the correct order and the person who answered the phone was incredibly rude, stating that since we got a buy one get one free deal for $18 worth of a platter, we basically paid $9 for that small portion each. Very rude and Horrible customer service. Yes we did get buy one get one free but this restaurant didn’t honor the spirit of the buy one get one special - they deliberately split the order in half… I have ordered buy one get one from other restaurants to try them out and have not felt ripped off until this order at Gyro World. Will not be ordering or recommending this restaurant again. Beware of their buy one get one special if you do order.
The worst ever gyro experience . The cashier Marina H.was extremely rude : we told her that the portions were minuscule and she said : well, you are not supposed to share it. Moreover , she did not offer to give a receipt and I had to go and get it after. For 27$ I got a coke, a lunch box - a box filed with another box, 3 salad leaves and 2 shreds of meat. The most greedy portions I have ever seen, the rudest cashier, the most minuscule pitas ever available. Absolute rip off
Went to order pork pita sandwich. When I got home, I felt the first bite was tasting strange so I cleaned the tsaziki sauce and realized the meat was med raw, barely grilled. Did not had second bite and I won't ever go back!!
Food looks ok, TERRIBLE customer service From a tall fat latino guy, an another young semi-fat blonde girl, horrible …. I pick up an order and they were very rude to me and very selfish. I will never order from this place or bring my friends and family here, it’s very UNPROFESSIONAL people
Terrible customer service. Never order from them directly or for a group. We ordered a large order at work and they messed up and we were missing two items in our order. When we called about the missing items they kept putting us on hold and refused to send us the missing items or to refund us. They kept insinuating that we’re lying about the missing items. “The cook said he cooked everything and packed it.” I think there are better places in Astoria to order from and you’d get better customer service.
Please, don't. Go ahead and eat.I had ordered some gyros and a platter on Saturday. Was in the emergency room on Monday with food poisoning. This place is terrible.Do not eat here.I've been home for1 week sick
The food was horrible nothing like the pictures they show. After two bites we threw it in the trash very disappointing never will eat there again and don't recommend it at all. The gyro was dry and burnt just like the fries must have been sitting under heat lamp all day. 53 dollars for 3 gyros and one French fries waste of money.
I think the worst gyro I've ever had. I asked for a pork gyro pita only with French fries. The fries were old cold and limply the meat was cold. We paid 12 dollars and waited 20 mins for this. Don't waste your money here.
Wrost Greek food ever! I hate to give a bad review, since I know how hard people work. But, it was unbelievable! My french fries were soggy (I ate only a few of them), the Greek salad was a joke, the rice was tasteless.. The only good thing was the chicken. Unfortunately the restaurant I always order was closed, so I had to order from Gyro World.. I hope this comment will help you guys to serve a better food to your customers.
Manager is very rude, lacking social skills, very very bad customer service. DO NOT GO HERE if you want a good experience, sorry to say. . Also my fries were soggy plus the calamari tasted like cardboard. SAD that this establishment still exist with such poor customer service.
This place used to be great. The Tzatziki tasted spoiled … low quality cooking oil. Must be blended oils and other low quality ingredients. Much better Greek spots in Astoria.
I was exited to go there after couple of years. To my disappointment, it's not the same. The gyro is tasteless and reminds nothing from Greece.
Got scammed on my order. Been ordering for a while the same order from Uber eats they reworded it and didn’t acknowledge all the money I spent on this business. Last time ordering here disgusting how the owner talks to loyal customers there’s a 100 other Greek places and I choose to eat here but definitely last time. Please spend money elsewhere the owner is rude and I never been spoken to like that by a business. Disgusting person
I came here with my family the other day and I can say it was horrible experience. It took about 10 minutes for someone to come take our order. The meat they served was cold and soggy and had way to much salt. The fries were too salty as well. The gyro they served was terrible, the meat was cold and soggy and the sauce it came with was terrible. They should at least ask if we would like the sauce on the side. We ordered a burger soon after it was exceptional, I forgot to ask for no cheese I called for the waiter and he just shrugged and left to the another table, and when we were calling him to order few drinks he deliberately ignored us when he was right next to us and when we asked for ketchup he just walked over to us and slammed the ketchup on the table in a rude voice “here” and walked off. At least the guy who cleaned the tables was very sweet. Was ashamed he wasn’t the waiter. And for the record our waiter had a racist tone in his face and voice serving us. Extremely rude service, terrible food and I would not recommend Gyro World Astoria to anybody I know.
Ordered dine in for a chicken burger w fries and waited a while just to get cold stiff fries and cold buns.
I ordered two chicken souvlakis pita sandwiches with everything on them..."supposedly", However, to my surprise they didn't add fries in the sandwich? That's a first for me and definitely the last! The sandwiches were cold, with a bunch of yellowish iceberg lettuce and the chicken had no flavor whatsoever! Never again...what a waste of $24!!!😡
The comments are correct. The buy 1 get 1 on Uber eats/doordash is a SCAM lol they split one meal into 2. Have you ever seen a GYRO from a place called GYRO WORLD serve 5 small pieces of chicken? I have lived in Astoria over 30 years, this place is new and doesnt know what theyre doing. There are TONS of much better Gyro places in Astoria.
I use to frequent this place a lot but not anymore. The quality and service has gone down significantly. Food quality is no longer worth the price and service and attitude of the staff is the worst. There's so many other gyro places in Astoria better than this, do not recommend until they can make improvements.
Horrible experience! I ordered a platter of whatever you’d expect in a gyro, just deconstructed. Literally everything came burnt and it tasted so BAD. The wait was long and everything just tasted bland and burnt. The only saving grace was the employees. They were polite and very hospitable. I’m so annoyed that the food was burnt, expensive and tasteless. I spent $30+ on one person. Never again.
When I walked in the restaurant and went to sit down a very rude and nasty girl at the counter told me it was self service, which i didnt know. There was no sign teling the customers that. When I looked at the menu i asked her a question about something she was very nasty and short with me like i was bothering her. I ordered the chicken box. It was very expensive for what they give you. A very little chicken a small couple of pieces very little. The rice was very hard in some places and they put peas and corn in it. It wasnt worth the price they charge for it.
I just received my chicken gyro sandwich, and the chicken was raw. I’m extremely upset, especially because I’m pregnant and unknowingly took a bite. I honestly feel sick and being pregnant makes me so worried. The chicken was cold inside and very difficult to eat it was slimy as well. I never had an issue with gyro world really has gone down hill :(
