This place definitely reminded me of when I was in Spain, from the people to the food to the music and the drinks. The food was delicious and the sangria was delightful. The place in inexpensive and cute. My friend went on a Thursday evening and it was not very crowded so we had a good time. The service was very friendly. Definitely ask for Martha as she was an awesome host!
Despana is truly a hidden gem. I love that they offer Cidra, which is such a rare find! It's the perfect spot to either shop for authentic Spanish ingredients or bring out-of-town guests for a delightful experience. Enjoy delicious tapas paired with wine or cider, and browse an array of Spanish delicacies to stock your pantry with. Whether you're there to savor the flavors or take home a piece of Spain, Despana never disappoints.
This spot creates loyal customers daily. Most importantly, staff displays remarkable warmth. This restaurant caters to those who love good food. The meal tasted excellent and cost less than expected for the portion size. This spot has my total dedication.
Despana is one of those rare places that, once you discover it, you can’t help but return to again and again. I first found it back in March, and it quickly became somewhere that feels like home. The staff—especially Antonio and Nathalia—are among the warmest, most welcoming people I’ve met in NYC. The food, particularly the DeNoche menu, is outstanding, and it’s my go-to spot for bringing friends and family to experience something special. I honestly can’t imagine my life in the city without having found this place. A true hidden gem.
The quality justifies what they charge on the menu. Employees deliver service that's both quick and respectful. The servings fill you up without emptying your wallet. The sweet options justified my usual dessert focus. The bill is higher than normal but fair for the experience.
Despana "had me" as soon as I crossed the threshold! This cozy spot truly captures the Spanish tapas cafe vibe. The food choices were wonderful and the staff members were engaging. The place has a great vibe and I could have done serious shopping damage there - everything you crave is there! However we will be back soon with appetites and tote bags.
Outstanding menu. The staff's timely service improved our experience. Despaña offers fair costs and doesn't skimp on vegetable servings. I enjoyed everything about my visit. What a great spot I discovered!
I did the DeNoche dinner last night with 3 other people and we had a blast picking the tinned fish we wanted and enjoying the way they plated our selections with perfectly toasted bread and creamy butter. We got some pinxtos and the Caesar salad to round it all out and washed it down with crisp Albariño. Thanks to Paula for being a fabulous host!
For me, DESPANA remains the most exciting destination when shopping for tools, ingredients, and inspiration needed for making your favorite culinary treats from Spain. They always stock a complete array of pottery and pans for stews and paella. Their shelves are lined with biscuits, preserves, chocolates, rice, jarred seafood, vinegars, oils and so much more. At the deli counter you can get freshly sliced ham, cheese and a variety of Spanish products. If you get hungry from all the shopping and sampling, then walk to the rear of the shop where you can get delicious tapas, tortillas, and bocadillos with a cafe con leche or an imported beer. Seating is available in their small dining room. I really can’t say enough about the staff and how well they run this small but wonderful shop. Highly recommended for foodies, fans, and the globally curious palate.
Dear Yoda! What a gem of a place ! This cozy like Spanish grocery store meets tapas bar will give anyone a perfect little trip through Spanish cuisine. The sangria was delicious. They have plenty of Spanish beers. It’s tiny little hidden gem in Lower Manhattan. Absolutely come by for their weekend dinner service or just a midday sandwich “bocadillos”. Salud! 🍷 🇪🇸
I wanted to visit DeEspaña to purchase miniature chorizo snack bags. I was not aware that they also have a variety of ready-made pinxos, open-face sandwiches (tostas), croquetas as well as a great selection of wines by the glass. I took advantage that every last Saturday of the month they have a promotion for these tostas and pinchos. They also have a, we'll-stocked mini-market with imported Spanish olive oils, canned seafood, Calasparra rice (for authentic paellas) and many other products (they are importeras themselves). The food was delicious and the service was even more delightful. Highly recommended!
wonderful tapas place! lots of food to taste from ham and cheese to sardines and olives. also some nice authentic spanish dishes like patatas rojo or fried cheese balls with a mix of meat/cheese inside (just godlike). couple of open wines to taste and a nice collection of bottled ones. overall awesome place
A very cute grocery store with seats available inside. Their Iberico ham was very authentic. Tender and flavorful while not too salty, a definite healthy ham to have. Highly recommended if you have yet tried this type of ham. Other food was less impressive. The price is high, but consider their location this is understandable. A good spot to stop by for some small tapas for sure. Service was good and atmosphere very Spanish. Four star well deserved. They also have a wine store next door which I would like to check up next time. It looks great!
I stopped by this little Spanish tapas bar in Soho, and it was such a lovely surprise. The atmosphere is simple and warm, with a friendly, almost family-style vibe. The service was very cordial, and even though the place isn’t trying to be fancy, it feels authentic in the best way. The food brought me straight back to my childhood. I tried the tortilla, a toast with calamari, another one with ham and cheese, and some croquettes — everything was delicious and comforting, just like my grandmother’s cooking. The flavors were exactly what Spanish tapas should be: honest, flavorful, and made with care. It’s a great spot to stop for a few bites, share a table, and enjoy real Spanish comfort food in a relaxed setting. Highly recommend if you’re craving something simple and genuinely good.
A market with products from Spain and a restaurant at the back that serves dinner from 6:30-9:00 on Fridays and Saturdays. Ordered pan con tomato, croquetas with cod fish, iberico ham with grated manchego and pulpo (octopus). My favorite was the croquetas followed by the ham as a close second. The pulpo was good too but seasoning is only on the top and the pieces in the layers beneath need more seasoning. I think the pan con tomate was just ok. We were seated at the corner and it was hard to get service. Waited for 10 mins to get the check. Other than that, it was a great dinner and we will definitely be back.
Fantastic food just a little bit pricey. The croquettes were fantastic but sooooo expensive. $4.25 for an individual one is nuts. But the Serrano ham one is delicious. The sandwiches were great! I absolutely loved the Despana one. The goat cheese and ham were a perfect match for the bread. We enjoyed a great bottle of wine from next door at the tables. Everything was clean and the service was great.
