Great atmosphere 👌🏾
Great food.
Food is delicious 🤤
Amazing food! The service was quick and the food was so tasty. I would highly recommend going with your friends or family.
Вкусно,но местоположение странное
Отличная кухня
This was excellent! I love the food here. I highly recommend it! One of my favourite places. 👍🏻
Best $30 spent on food in forever! Was super excited to discover the food (esp golubtsy) was authentic and delicious. Felt like home. :)
Had your fish soup and it was out of this world, will be coming back with friends and family so they can all enjoy the soup and everything else on your menu, 10/10 will recommend
The food reminds me of St. Petersburg and will hold me over until make a trip back! Get the borscht and the salad olivier.
Tasty food like real Russian taste, there is a sauna and pool, you feel real Russian tradition
Authentic Russian food. Big portions. Everything tastes amazing. Simply furnished.
Like a maze to get to the restaurant but the food was worth it. The waiter was excellent!
The best place, great food and drinks. Homie atmosphere. Love it!!!
Scrumptious Russian food, quick service, model-like wait staff.
Really low priced for lunch. The food is amazing.
Really authentic Russian food
I liked the answers a lot, even the presentation was great
Authentic, fresh, quirky with a genuinely nice server.
Nice and inexpensive food there.
Is a awesome restaurant, really good
Great food, drinks and people!
Fantastic food! Borsch and lamb kebabs are outstanding!!! Best Russian food in the city is right here. Ukrainian borsch anywhere else is ok, go for Russian here!
Matryoshka was an amazing and an unexpected gem. Being a couple that had no idea what they were really getting into it was certainly interesting and ended up being perfect (the restaurant is located within the Russian and Turkish baths, don't be surprised if you pass by more then a few towel clad patrons on your way to your meal). Our server could not have been more kind and helpful, he made us feel right at home like we were regulars. The food was amazing and absolutely perfect for a chilly Christmas eve, hot borsch with sour cream, Moscow style Pelmeni (dumplings with mushrooms & cheese) and cheese blintzes with hot ceylon tea, rustic dark bread and jam on the side. The serving sizes are huge too so bring your appetite, we kinda dove in having no idea how big the plates would be but there were barely any leftovers to take home when all was said and done. Matryoshka gets high marks.
I went there on a date -- I ordered 8 dishes that all took me back to my stay in Russia -- I expected the bill to exceed well beyond $100, but it didn't even come close! $68!! The food was so delicious that my date and I kept ordering, and we later learned how well priced it all was. Great place, great service, great prices!
We went with a couple of friends and spent 8 hours - no problem. Between the baths , steam rooms ,etc and the amazing food menu and drinks, made it the most memorable relaxing day in the middle of winter. Take a day off in the middle of the week and go early. 6 o'clock crowd shows up and then it gets a little bussier.
Great fresh, tasty, and healthy food. No gimmicks like so many other choices around, but are not healthy or tasty and made with mass manufactured ingredients. Love that you get a balanced set for lunch - bread, salad, soup, and a main. I usually get pretty full by the time I get to main, but will have it anyways as it's delicious. Off the top of my head, love harcho lamb soup, fish soup, pelmeni / vareniki dumpling, crepe, kebab. Love the delicious touches like dill in salad, sour cream with dumplings or borscht beet soup, soft room temperature butter with brown bread, fruit compôte with crepe.
Nice regional cuisine, loved the buckwheat, the Russian soups! Fish is cheap and great. Ask for Kvas Taras soft drink, as they forgot to include on the menu.
Haven't had authentic Russian food like this one for a long time, especially in Manhattan. This unique restaurant is connected to the spa, and it is easy to miss the entrance. The mushroom soup is so delicious! The Moscow Pelmeni are also testy, the cabbage rolls are average, I will try different filling next time. The price is affordable and the portion is very generous👍 Many movie and sports stars have visited it. It has many steps down/up and turns and with herbal smells from the spa, but worth it. I will definitely go back.
Such a gem in the middle of the city. We were visiting with a baby and noticed they had a restaurant (also a spa). They went out of their way to help us find a location to change a diaper and then introduced us to some excellent food the we literally cannot find in Texas. If you are curious about Russian cuisine this is your spot. It was excellent and the service was above and beyond. Highly recommend

This spot has become my reliable favorite. Food here strikes the perfect balance, with excellent mouthfeel and inventive preparation. The people working here are quick and careful. The restaurant rarely looks empty. My time there was satisfying.
It was best Slavic food in NYC!!! Big portions, nice atmosphere, excellent service! Thank you !!!!
Food was good but service was really wonky, everything came out of order and at random times. Long wait.
Wow. What some great good. Little place tucked away in a Turkish bath house but worth going. Very friendly staff and gave great recomondations. The food was so tasty. I've never been to Russia but I'm assuming if I had a Russian grandmother this is how they would cook the food. So good.
This was a perfect lunch of Russian cuisine, about which I was woefully uninformed & inexperienced until now. Black tea w/ honey, Oliver salad, salmon soup, traditional chicken patties w/ buckwheat, & black bread. The chicken cutlets were delightfully tart, such that they paired nicely w/ a touch of ketchup. Plenty to take home afterward.
Having never tried Russian cuisine before, I'll say this... it's delicious! There were 5 of us, each ordered something different and every dish was just as good as the next. Will definitely go back to try more items. They also have a spa, may have to give it a try too. Definitely recommend!
The entire experience was satisfying. The service team provides remarkably detailed attention to each table. Their food leaves me wanting another visit. They've achieved both class and comfort in their design. The meal was perfect. I want to return for their complete menu.
This place handles all aspects of dining well. Their dishes surpassed my highest hopes. Every employee shows authentic friendliness. The selection features diverse meal options. This spot matches my taste perfectly.
The menu shows thought and care in its creation. Service is reliable mostly, with occasional missteps. Their kitchen produces amazing dishes. This place sets the bar high!!! Matryoshka serves food worth remembering.

Нормально
Authentic Russian food. It is a bit expensive, but food quality is excellent. Staff is helpful and friendly.
Food is good, very delicious, but service need to improve
Generous portions. A bit slow on service
My friend brought me here and I loved the food! It felt like I was eating a home cooked meal. The prices were affordable too.
I went to the restaurant only. Not the spa. Tasty dishes with good variety to choose from. Friendly staff. I just felt the entrees were a little pricey for the portion size.
It is located inside a Russian bath house which is kind of strange. The dining room is no frills but what it lacks in decoration it makes up with really good food and decent service.
I regularly order take out from Matryoshka. I’ve never dined-in and I’ve never used the bath house, although I’ve heard great things. Matryoshka offers amazingly reliable Eastern European comfort food. My favorite are the blintzes with caviar. They serve you a generous portion of salmon caviar and blintzes with a soft texture and well-balanced flavor - just a touch of sweetness. Sour cream and caviar folded within their warm blintze is perfection to have at home. It is what I eat when I’m sad and when I’m celebrating. The pickled vegetable plate is a crowd pleaser. It comes with more than one type of pickled cucumber, green tomato, cabbage, mushroom, and carrots. It is a generous portion and I eat it throughout the week. The Vareniki is exactly as it should be. As a vegetarian-forward household, we get a serving of the potato and one of cherry for dessert. These are steamed dumplings with a clean and very simple flavor. They hold their shape and stay together even after traveling. They come with the traditional apple sauce and sour cream. If you have spicy mustard at home, enjoy! Top the potato ones with a little salt to your liking. Both of these are also great the next day. Their Borscht is also good and keeps well. Note: this is a non-meat/vegetarian review, they have many meat options I have not tried.
I loved this place. It was exactly what I wanted for this particular experience. Disclaimer: I expected and desired a hole in the wall. The interior and exterior would have you guessing that the food would not be any good. This is unfortunate, as the service and food beats that of more modern looking restaurants. This is the place for Russian food done right. I recommend the lunch specials, for thrift and for variety.
Took my mother here so she could try Russian cuisine for the first time. Everything was delicious. Portions were fair, and the decore really tied it all together.

This place is tucked away underground inside a sauna, so it's like having lunch in a speakeasy, but the borscht was really good! The meatballs and salad were also good and sizeable in portion, competitively priced at $13. The service was stereotypically Russian.
Matroska is located inside a Russian / Ukrainian bathhouse in the financial district. It is a little hard to find, but worth the required concentration and Google Maps assistance. Go in, wind your way around through doorways and up and down staircases to reach the dining room. Um, ask the receptionist for directions. The Eastern European food is s excellent. Dumplings and soup are recommended. Though, maybe avoid the salads. Prices are a little high, but lower (along with smaller portions) at lunch. Service is fast, knowledgeable and friendly. The dining arra is in a bathhouse, so atmosphere is what you expect. But it is quiet. Bring a colleague, enjoy the food, and have a good conversation while savoring your meal.
The food is a tasty version of home made Russian food. I wouldn’t really go here as the restaurant because is more like a bath house place. But once you’re in the bath house if you’re curious about Russian/Ukrainian food this place is worth the try. Also love the spa!

O.K, Speisen leider nicht besonders lecker.
Used to be great. Now they raised prices and decreased amount of food. The food is still decent though.
Borsch is good everything else was mediocre. Fairly cheap but not very cheap
Good waitstaff but slow service.
Average. The place is dark, gloomy and dingy as it is underground. The staff is very friendly and the food is decent too. I would recommend this place for an authentic Russian experience. But the food is terribly overpriced. I enjoyed the Borscht soup though.
The day i came there was only 1 waiter! So service was very slow.. i belive that price is to hight for the size of portions. I came to eat Borsh (soup) and it was not succesful on my mind. I think pelmeni were not home made but ready so test was not as good as i expected. I would not advice this place. Maybe only for russian atmosphere.
Mediocre food imo. The best was the borscht, which was flavorful and generous portion. However, the rest of our meal was lacking in taste and value... All of our meat dishes were overdone and tough especially the kebabs. The golubtsy was kinda bland and small. The blintzes were alright. Overall I've had better Russian / Eastern European cuisine in Brooklyn esp the Brighton Beach area.

I have bad experience from place. I buy food and is a little green so I call for complain and they hang up. VERY BAD
Worst experience ever!
Terrible service, waited 40 minutes for my order
Very stuffy underground place. Very rude customer service
Worst food and service!!
I do not recommend, waited 30 minutes for a waiter, no service, the menu does not indicate the final prices, then waited another 30 minutes for the bill, the food was 3/10, I do not recommend, wasted time and no pleasure
First of all this place is hidden inside a sort of spa hotel place , took me 5 minutes to figure out where the "restaurant" was , after I took a seat it took 5 more minutes to bring the menu and the guy said that he'll be back "soon"... Waited like 20 minutes and he never came back to take my order. Wasted my time.
I had a very unpleasant experience at their restaurant. The waitress and other staff were rude, never smiled, and didn’t even make eye contact. The atmosphere was dark and unwelcoming, with an odd smell that made it uncomfortable to stay!
Very bad, and unsanitary place. Food is horrible, old and not fresh. Not sure how people can even take a bath there and call it a spa. Pool was something other then blue. Staff is rude and not pleasant. If anything, but stay away from this palace
