I used to live near the Workhorse, and Back Lot has the same neighborhood bar environment. They have one of the best collections of local craft beer in town; honestly the best beer selection period. They don't have the same food as the Workhorse but the Other Side Deli makes up for it with kickass sandwiches. If you live in the area you owe it to yourself to stop by for a brew or two.

Great service. Very reasonably priced drinks. Good atmosphere. All around a good time. They have food trucks out back and two outdoor seating areas.

This is the single best establishment to have a beverage or five within walking distance from my house. I would drive here if I had to though and you should too (unless you’re having lots of drinks). Full of affordable drinks, comfortable ambiance, an eclectic jukebox, and games to play, Back Lot is my favorite way to spend my Friday, Saturday, Wednesday, Tuesday, Monday, Thursday, and Sunday nights and sometimes afternoons. Also the staff is next level. Shout out Miles! Don’t listen to Erica Manners-this is a 5 star establishment. Maybe even 6.

One of the best dives around Hyde Park. Friendly staff, clean restrooms, great music and just plain old good vibes all around.

Definitely a regular here even though I'm 10 min drive away. $2 tall boys or topo and $3 beer on tap (try the lawn mower) is always a plus. Sometimes there are flying cockroaches outside because life is more fun that way. Also. Great juke box that always play some really good 80s hits instead of waiting for someone rich to drop down a quarter to play (screw that trickle down economy y'all). Great movies on 3 TV's. Whoever pick out the movies are on point. Sometimes they are so good, you can totally watch the movies instead of talking to your friends and don't even feel bad. I rarely get drunk at this neighborhood bar but always have a good time.

Though Backlot is next to west campus, you don’t get the west campus crowd, to say the least. Every time I come here the staff is exceptional. Cheap drinks and great food truck out front.

BEST BAR in AUSTIN. I've always received A1 service, all of the staff are friendly folks that pour well & the beers are cheap. What more could you want?? There's an old-school jukebox with an excellent selection, a couple dart boards, a pool table, some board games, 3 TVs playing movies & 2 TVs playing sports, a patio for your smoking friends, and a dank food truck right outside (yes you can take your drinks out there). Fat list of local beers at good prices & some fun house cocktails. I'm a fan of the low lights that offer up a cozy vibe, but the patio is well lit if that's not your thing. There's generally a local crowd of regulars and semi-regulars from the neighborhoods around, lots of service industry vets patronizing this high quality bar, I love this place.

The owner is very attentive and cares about making people smile...we wanted to play pool today and he was right there to make sure it worked and always made us feel comfortable! The staff are great and the margaritas are cold and freshly made!!! Makes me feel like I lived in the his neighborhood!!! Been coming here since college days used to be two dollar tall boys but it’s 3 now, (no biggie inflation) and it’s a true gem in the city if you want a local dive bar experience with affordable drinks, great company, great vibe and atmosphere. I’ve left my debit card in my ID here multiple times from playing darts and getting to Turnt and they always have it at the bar available. The bartenders are second and none very respectful and kind and have been working there for years. Will continue to be a regular here when I move back and I’m so happy Covid didn’t kill this place it is near and dear to my heart. By the way it smells clean in here, there’s no sticky surfaces because which brings cute women often. This place is lgbtq etc friendly and love the food truck out front as well.

Great neighborhood spot! They now what's good and price it low, can't really beat that. Super friendly folks all the way around. One pool table and a couple of dart boards to enjoy some competitive fun. Jukebox has choice cuts as well. Speaking of choice cuts, also check out the OtherSide Deli truck out back: phenomenal pastrami, corned beef and turkey. The Back Lot has become my go to spot.

I thoroughly enjoyed this place. If I lived closer to Back Lot, I’d be there alllll the time. Sweet little dive off N Guad. Very open inside (albeit somewhat small). There’s also an enclosed outside area with benches. No heaters out there, though. Pretty decent selection of local beers on tap, as well as High Life (which was only $1, I might add) and such in bottles/cans. They also had a decent selection of liquor. The staff was friendly and helpful. BEST of all was the price- I paid less than $20 (not including tip, of course) for three Blue Owls, one High Life, and one nice Mezcal. Oh, and the bathroom was very clean!

They're posted clearly on signs on the bar. Just look around and you'll find an excellent deal. Location is pretty good and you can park on the street and they have a tiny parking lot. It's right across the street from It's right across the street from 37th, in a cute neighborhood. This is University area so there are some young folks that go in there, but the age range is widely mixed. They also have an outdoor patio kind of on two sides. And a food truck with some pretty dank tacos.

Cool place with cool people. If you like the folks who run workhorse then you'll like the folks at back lot. Unfortunately there's only one pool table but on the other hand there's more seating than at workhorse inside and out.

Lighting is super meh. Bartenders seemed decent enough. Prices are once again meh. The vibe is fine. Just overall not my favorite 🤣

Sure. It’s a bar. The food truck is not what is present on the internet, so don’t go hoping for some waffle fries, which was literally the only reason we chose to come here. It is instead a taco truck that doesn’t even open until the late evening.

Smells like bar sanitizer and 40 yr old vomit when you first walk in. Super dive bar feel but far too crowded to call a dive. They have darts. All surfaces are a little sticky, but it's ok if you like that kinda thing.

Good drinks, way cleaner than it's previous incarnation. The staff could work on being a little more friendly, but no big deal. Parking is easy and you are probably not going to get your car broken into. Two semi modern dart boards and some kind of pool looking table game

first time, I went in on a Monday night. I sat at the bar and quietly worked on my weekly goal planning. Second time was for an amazingly terrible first date and I chose it because I knew I wouldn't run into anyone and I knew they had a patio. Reliable dive bar where you can get a cheap mixed drink. I will be back!

The bar itself is cool, but the Spanish-speaking guy in the food truck overcharged me both times I bought food there. The first time, he ‘didn’t have change’. The second time, he tried to charge me $14 instead of $12. When I noticed, he had the audacity to try to charge me $13. These sums aren’t too big; it's just a disgusting behavior

My bf and I went to this place one night while walking around the neighborhood. We were celebrating his new job and decided to pop in for a quick one. It was mid-week, before dusk and the crowd seemed a bit young. Despite the smoking, we thought the patio might be a good option. Unfortunately, we never made it outside because we were not served or acknowledged by the bartender. I tried twice to get his attention, but he seemed preoccupied checking up on the young men sitting at the bar. Then, another young man walked inside from the patio, clearly over-served. This person couldn't even articulate what kind of drink he wanted and just yelled WHISKEY at the bartender. The bartender (an older gentleman) tried to ask him about which whiskey and then ended up pouring him a shot of Jack Daniels. My bf and I watched in horror and then signaled to him that we should leave. We left promptly and went down the street to Hopfield's instead.

Watch out for the guy at the food truck with the gold front teeth. He verbally harassed us in Spanish and tried to defend himself by saying he was surprised we could speak Spanish. Who else does he harass just because they can’t respond?
