This place is an Austin gem! The coffee is so good! My go to order of an oat milk latte was perfect. They have lots of seating inside and out and itnis charming. I was not there to work but I saw lots of people working and there was still ample seating. There is a large and fun looking play area for kids in the back too. There are 2 food trailers in front of the building for food options but we didn't try those out today. I want to come back in the evening some time to check out the bar options and maybe trivia night on Sunday. Cool place check amd friendly staff. Check it out!

Absolutely adorable coffee shop & more! Seems like a hip parents paradise but also a place to enjoy none the less without kids. The backyard is gorgeous with it's Texas wildflower garden and joyful children all around. A must stop if you need some morning fuel and snacks!

Great vibes and nice selection of standard coffee house fare, plus some nice surprise (vegan sausage egg muffins and more). The folks at the counter are always super friendly and welcoming. Great indoor seating and strong wifi. The backyard area is fantastic for families and then transforms to a great live music/performance venue. The place is a gem in South Austin.

Amazing coffee spot. Tasty cold brew coffee, but what makes the place really unique is the cool and huge back yard, swings, and benches to lounge out on while you enjoy your coffee. The overall design of the place is very cool. Great customer service as well.

Charming friendly staff, great parking, and good food / coffee - seriously what more could you ask for. Though the parking bit give serious bonus points, I enjoyed my interactions with the staff who genuinely seemed to enjoy what they do. There is plenty of seating for those wanting to hangout as a group, and I did see a few people working. Seems to me they are meeting the needs of almost any coffee shop “user” here.

I always have an exceptional experience here! And we go almost weekly! The owner is wonderful, the customer service is great, and the coffee is amazing! I also love that there's a play house and a ton of toys for the kids to play with. We can't wait until the play scape is done being renovated! I highly recommend bringing a book and sitting on the couch while sipping a latte 😃

We love the hive!! We have been going there weekly for the last two years and it is one of our favorite spots in south Austin. The service and atmosphere is unmatched. Travis always greets us with a smile, knows us by name, and remembers our order. It’s a great place for families with young kids - as there is a large outdoor play area. The only feedback I would give is that the bar area could be re-worked for a more functional layout, some of the construction needs cleaned up, and the WiFi can be weak at times when the place is full. But all in all it’s a great spot, and we highly recommend! PS - TRAVIS IS THE BEST! :)

The Hive’s become one of my favorite go-to spots in South Austin. It’s laid-back and weird in a good way—like someone decided to open a coffee shop in their backyard and somehow made it work for everyone: parents, remote workers, weirdos, creatives, and people just passing through. Their espresso’s solid. Not mind-blowing, but it’s consistent—smooth, balanced, and hits well in a cortado or iced latte. They know what they’re doing without being snobby about it. Inside, it’s cozy without trying too hard. They’ve got this little library nook with a bunch of random books and board games, and it’s actually kind of perfect if you want a quiet moment or just don’t feel like being on your phone. The chairs are mismatched, the lighting’s warm—it feels lived in. The outside space is where The Hive really shines. Big shaded yard, lots of picnic tables, a play area for kids, and plenty of space to just exist. It’s super dog-friendly and has a good mix of people—some working, some just vibing. The coffee cakes are dense as hell in the best way. Not some dry, airy thing you regret ordering. It’s legit heavy, sweet, and filling. Perfect with espresso if you need a little pick-me-up or something to soak up the caffeine. And yeah—they’ve got a full bar in the back, which is kind of a game-changer. Craft cocktails, local beer, cider, wine—you name it. Makes it easy to slide from work mode to hang mode without switching venues. Overall: It’s casual, it’s got character, and it doesn’t try too hard.

Shout out Brianna and Travis! I wanted a turtle latte and they had no idea what that was but googled it and made my dreams come true with excitement. Loved that! Every time I come to the hive I love it. It’s my favorite place to meet up with friends to catch up and grab a coffee and bite to eat. The vibes are always good and the food/drinks are always so yummy. Never had a bad experience or service here :)

A great cozy local spot. They have events and seem to be fostering a little community. I haven't attended but that feeling is reverberated through their customer service and general vibe. I very much enjoy the honey-vanilla latte. Around back, there's a great outdoor space to enjoy your beverages. There are a couple of food trucks that aren't bad but I wouldn't recommend them as highly.

Great place for good buzzing and to study, meet, work! Spacious and quiet spots. AND the food and baked items are absolutely delicious!! Must try the coffee cake! The owner bakes everything from scratch. Soooooo yummy! Definitely going again.

Came in early and spent almost all day here! They have a vegan breakfast sandwich, some snacks and a great drinks selection. I tried out the food truck outside and later in the day Travis came by and offered me a popsicle! He even made sure to let me know it was vegan and gluten free. It was so kind! I am definitely a fan of the service. The atmosphere is great to get a little work done, read a book, meet a friend or even hold a party (witnessed a private event in their back room that seemed pretty great). I hung out on a comfortable couch most of the day but there is plenty of seating inside and a beautiful patio outside. Here for the vibes all around! Will definitely be back frequently.

One of my favorite coffee shops. Great for working. Great for hanging out with your dog in there large backyard area. Plenty of parking. Pretty large inside, so I’m never too worried about being able to find a spot to sit. Staff is always friendly and attentive. Fair prices and a lot of options on their drink menu. I don’t get the food very often, but it’s been good the couple of times I did.

Just visited with my friends and we had such a wonderful experience! The staff are absolutely lovely and so kind! The facility is beautiful and very unique, and it was hardly busy, at around 5-7pm on Friday. The coffee is fabulous and the mozzarella pesto sandwich was delicious! We were able to catch up and enjoy each other’s company in this lovely environment. I love how LGBTQ+ friendly the atmosphere is, and will definitely return with more of my queer friends :)

Excellent place for coffee and breakfast! The breakfast burritos are amazing. The service is fast and they are very efficient. The beer part is that they have a LOT of seating options and a lot of different varieties of options to sit from tables to sofas to outdoor seating with beautiful views. Their food selection is incredible as well! A must-stop if you’re passing through the area. A great spot to work if you need a place to land as well! Highly recommended!

This is such a fun place! They’ve got great cold brew and breakfast tacos. They also have an abundance of areas to charge devices. The outside area is really the star of the show here! They have added great areas for kids and parents to play along with a bunch of fans for the Texas heat. There’s also a lovely garden you can sit in and admire the blooms. I love it here!

IMO it's the best coffee house in South Austin. It's for everybody. Students, little kids & parents, late night coffee drinkers. It's got that blend of coffee house/living room. The back garden area those who like to meditate. Just a completely unique place in it's own right!

From the 1st location to this one, we LOVE it here!!! This business woman got it so right. Full bar (in the evenings), food, games, kids play area, coffee, wifi, workspace, beer wine and champagne even when the bar is not open....it just doesn't get any better. And Saturday morning live children's music to boot! Yes. Just yes. Please treat yourself and your family to The Hive.

This place is GREAT for people living south. They have dedicated work areas, community work areas (both for monthly/hourly fee that includes 24hr access). Then they have the main coffee shop area that is free to use. For those with small children, they have daycare services available. They have very upbeat chill music playing at a volume that is not distracting and actually helps you focus. They also have outdoor areas in the front AND back with tables, benches and playground areas for the kids. Their food is very good and their coffee is amazing. They also have a thai food truck outside that is rated one of the best in austin (top 10 I believe). The owners and employees are very friendly.

Got to cozy up in this adorable little nook this morning. It was very quiet when I came between 7:45 - 8:45, ideal for getting some reading or work done. The ladies here are so sweet, and even moved the end table next to me when I had my computer on my lap. (Turns out it was from her back yard, gotta love Texas). 5 stars!

Mark & Acte made my Sunday night last night!! They are amazing and so welcoming! I love this place but as someone who doesn’t have kids I tend to not come here that often but now with the new bar renovations and Mark & Acte working there. I’ll be a new neighborhood regular in no time! 😉

Relaxed ambiance, good coffee and wine. Nice menu. We had pasta pesto and sun-dried tomatoes with chardonnay, then a caramel macchiato with soy milk. Everything was excellent. Seating inside is lounge style and outside is very Texan and has a play area for small kids.

A

Delicious coffee, relaxing vibe, kid friendly, dog friendly, indoor/outdoor seating with a play area.. need I say more? Bring your pups & babies, caffeinate and load up on delicious baked goods (or a breakfast sandwich or two) all while lounging on the most comfortable couches & chairs. Did not check if dogs were allowed indoors so I'd call ahead to check if it's too hot out. Bonus points: Vegan taco truck outside, variety of not-coffee drinks, board games for older kiddos and adults. Don't be surprised if you run into us here because we will literally LIVE here from now on.

I came at a slow time of day (2:30 pm) and was able to walk around and fully enjoy the outdoor area. There is a wide selection of beverages to choose from besides coffee like canned beer, lemonade and tea options. There is also a moderate selection of pastries, muffins, sandwiches and other snacks. I opted for the iced caramel macchiato, hot cappuccino and a warmed up slice of the three berry cake. The ambience outside is exceptional with many different seating areas and arrangements and lots of wildflowers and even a water feature. From what I saw indoors, there was ample seating as well. I'm generally wary of "kid-friendly' when it comes to spaces like a coffee shops or breweries because it often results in bored children running around underfoot and disrupting the peace and quiet of other patrons. However, this place does it right with a dedicated play area for children with many toys and activities to engage and entertain them. I also really appreciated the hand sanitizer stations and mosquito spray made available. In the outdoor area, there are accomodations for dogs such as metal bowls of water and a poopy bag station. ( I don't own a dog so I have no idea what y'all call them). There also seems to be ample parking as well which is always a plus. Overall, this is a bee-friendly, small business with a focus on family enjoyment and that is a winner in my book!

Someone stole my wallet at Barton springs while I was swimming and a few days later this place called me and said they found my wallet in their trash can! Sure enough they had it and all my debit cards and my driver's license and my food stamp card were in there! I had about $100 cash that was gone though, but I'm so glad I got my driver's license back. worth $100. And they gave me a free drink of choice while I was there getting my wallet. Thank you so much!

The Hive is one of my favorite coffee shops in South Austin. It’s the perfect mix of great coffee, laid-back vibes, and a true community feel. Whether you’re stopping in for a quick meeting, getting some work done, or just relaxing on the patio, it always feels welcoming. The drinks are consistently solid, the space is comfortable and inviting, and there’s just a good energy about the place. You can tell it’s more than just a coffee shop, it’s a neighborhood hub. Been loving the vibe since the coffee lounge days. This family-friendly loungey wifi spot turns into a whole different scene at night. Really down-to-earth Rockstar bartenders, super sweet, and a little spicy if you ask for it. Jams are always on point, can't wait for the jukebox and pool tables. Lastly, I was very impressed with the cocktail game. Easily the newest go-to bar in Austin right now. Manchaca leveled up.

I LOVE the new Hive! I’m so excited that they’re moving away from all the kid stuff. Kind of hard to enjoy a coffee or beer when you feel like you’re at a daycare. The bartenders seem very experienced and I’ve had fantastic service on the coffee and bar side. The bar has a great moody kind of vibe and it’s very quirky/eccentric, just like how old Austin used to be.

Chris Houk

I’m loving the changes they’ve made and the direction they’re going. They built a huge bar and moved the coffee shop to its own part of the building. Now you get kind of a best of both worlds with a coffee shop that feels like a coffee shop and a bar that feels like a bar. I’m excited to see how they progress and what new stuff they’ve got cooking up over there.

The place itself is small and cozy, and the menu is pretty simple, mostly coffee, a few snacks, and a couple of food options. It’s not the kind of spot where you go for a full meal, but for a quick bite or a coffee break, it works just fine. The coffee was actually nice, smooth, not too bitter. I also ordered a sandwich, and that part didn’t go as smoothly. They completely forgot about it, so my friend and I ended up sitting there for almost half an hour before we finally went inside to ask about it. Only after that did they bring it out. It wasn’t a huge deal, but it definitely took away from the experience. Inside, though, the atmosphere wasn’t quite my style. The interior is noticeably dark, and it felt a bit heavy, so I didn’t feel like staying indoors for long. But the outdoor seating completely changed the experience. Outside it’s much brighter and more welcoming, with a comfortable, relaxed vibe. If the weather is good, it’s honestly a great spot to sit for a while, drink your coffee, and just slow down a bit.

We love coming to the hive for a cute little girls mastermind. The coffee is amazing and prices are fair. The only issue is if it’s more than 2 people you’re meeting with, it might be tough to find a decent table indoors. There is plenty of options outdoor but with the Texas heat, I think everyone has the same mindset of sitting indoors. It was a group of 3 of us and we could only squeeze into the smallest table that was available. It worked out fine but we were sure eyeing all the others to see if anyone would leave so we could snag a bigger table. There were many single people who were taking up an entire table of 4+ so they could add more smaller tables to accommodate bigger groups. They also were cooking something so I know they have food options too. And there is a food truck up in the front as well. I love that it is women owned.

As a local Realtor with Amazing Realty, I often look for comfortable and inviting spaces where I can meet clients, brainstorm with colleagues, and enjoy a great cup of coffee. The Hive coffee house in South Austin is the perfect spot for just that! From the moment you step inside, The Hive exudes a warm and welcoming atmosphere. It boasts plenty of quiet spaces perfect for relaxing, working, or chatting with friends. The layout encourages productivity, making it an ideal location for Realtors like myself to gather, share insights about the real estate market, and explore the vibrant South Austin neighborhoods. One of my favorite features is the fabulous outdoor space. It’s a great place to soak up the sun while enjoying a delicious drink and catching the local vibes. During my recent visit, I tried the pineapple coconut smoothie, and let me tell you—it was absolutely beach-worthy! The perfect refreshing treat to energize my day. If you’re looking for a cozy coffee shop that fuels creativity and collaboration, The Hive is a must-visit. It’s a wonderful environment that not only supports local businesses like Amazing Realty but also fosters community connections and conversations. I highly recommend stopping by The Hive for your next coffee break. You won’t be disappointed!

Good coffee & friendly service. I reckon I have to come back to experience the non-coffee with the great atmosphere. Atmosphere always increases the star count. I sat outside in the back for a bit & gave my coffee an extra stir. I didn't get to explore what appeared to possibly be a small raised garden area. I'll have to go back to check it out. I also enjoyed a rocking chair on the front porch. Snacks available & some food trailers/trucks outside. Definitely a coffee spot to give a try to see for yourself.

The Hive Review The Hive is a coffee shop primarily designed with parents and young children in mind. The outdoor area is massive, featuring a large playground with slides, toys, and plenty of space for kids to run around. Parents can relax, drink coffee, and socialize while their children play freely, making it a great community spot. Beyond the play area, there’s even a vegetable garden outside, which I hope is used for their kitchen. The indoor space is also quite large, divided into different sections that serve various purposes—some areas are great for working, while others are more suited for casual conversations. One particularly interesting feature is a dedicated conference-style room with a large table and chairs, something I haven’t seen in other cafés. It seems like a great option for small meetings or gatherings. The menu is simple, offering a few variations of croissants and other light options. The coffee is average—not bad, but not the main focus here. This place is more about the experience and atmosphere rather than gourmet food or specialty coffee. The furniture is older, and the design isn’t modern at all, but that fits the laid-back nature of the café. The real highlight is the variety of spaces and the unique setup for families, making it stand out from other coffee shops. If you’re a parent looking for a place to enjoy coffee while your kids stay entertained, The Hive is a great choice.

This place is must for your coffee rotation. The service and atmosphere is amazing. The staff is friendly. I work remote and this place has reliable WiFi. I am on conference calls all the time. One time I was getting over being sick and had 2 hours of calls. The owner brought me chicken soup while I was on a call and cup of hot tea. It’s the little things. This is must try if you work remote

10/10. The service was amazing. The blonde bartender with the pixie cut was so lovely! There are gender neutral bathrooms and the baby changing station has wipes and everything. There is a printer of you need that while using the super fast Wi-Fi. They have a cafe, bar, and middle eastern food truck. They also have a cute little library. There is heaps of seating included some comfy couches and padded baths so if you have chronic pain you can still spend time here comfortably. They have local art and jewelry around the venue as well. There is lots of parking as well.

From the terrain, to the atmosphere, to the employees, life thrives at this establishment. Every employee genuinely looks happy to be here, and after spending the better part of a work day at this venue, I can see why. All of my questions and concerns were answered in a professional and friendly manner and were complemented by a beautiful backyard and a visually appealing interior. To unwind in a healthy way, stop by and grab a delicious cup of Joe!

It's a nice place to hang out, not very good if you are trying to get work done. Music is pretty loud, I have noise canceling headphones and I could still hear it. Cold brew was ok. Looks like a pretty kid friendly spot as well. Oh, they got a decent beer selection as well!

Sweet spot in South Austin for coffee, WiFi, a kid-friendly and dog-friendly backyard, live music and now a full bar. There is a vegan taco truck in the back if you are hungry, or The Hive has sandwiches and pastries too! The only reason I’m not giving 5 stars is because the ambience INSIDE seems like it needs some attention. But otherwise, happy we found this spot!

Great spot, coffee is solid and the staff is great. -1 star for whatever the heck the things they call bagels are. Might be the worst excuse for a bagel I’ve had in my life. Get the coffee cake instead.

The atmosphere and the vibes are impeccable. Food’s always nice and their fridge items are fantastic. Lots of healthy options too! Dinking a star since the new wifi system just did not work for me - tried multiple ways, asked the staff too. Unreliable wifi is a bit of a downer for a coffee shop where I was intending to work out of. I’ve worked here in the past so I imagine it’s a new-ish problem but I do hope they fix it!

This is further south than I would usually venture but I would say a great work from home spot for anyone in South Austin! The staff was really friendly and was able to guide me since it was my first time visiting. It is a great place to work- plenty of tables and even couches. They also have an outdoor area and meeting rooms(not sure if you need to reserve beforehand). I literally came just to work so I got one of the specialty coffees with a little bit of hazelnut added 😉 Plenty of parking, so dont worry about that.

Shelly was a dear! She was great at accomodating my request and attentive to make sure my cinnamon swirl was soft enough to eat with my braces. Very courteous. The food tasted great but with the burger & breakfast sandwich I ordered, the wax paper they were served on fused w/ part of the food. I like the vibe of the place but a lot of the decor was stained and a bit gritty.

Very friendly staff, treated me well. They also serve good coffee. They have an outdoor area at the back of the store so you can sit outside. The second time I was there it was raining, but there parking is in a mud area. My car got stuck in the mud, and I had mud all over my shoes and inside the car which was very frustrating. I gave them three stars because I definitely think they should invest in more proper parking. For now I don’t suggest going there unless it’s dry outside, you could have problems.

Two young baristas were very kind. Latte drinks were not great. Not a fan of the commercial syrups. The playground was very confusing & felt unsafe for our toddlers & smell was overpowered with mothballs. This place has a lot going on. We drank maybe half our lattes & headed out. My recommendations. Work on signature coffee drinks, homemade syrups. Clean up the back outdoor patio, maybe one big open & even area for kids to run around. Less is more.

Went there for a special event. The atmosphere was nice, they had nice play sets for the kids, but someone at the Hive didn't do a very good job with booking because they were closed. I was looking forward to trying their coffee too!

It’s such a cute place with great table set up and decor, and I love to support women owned businesses! Hoping they hire baristas with a bit of training in the future. I’ve tried ordering a cappuccino twice now, and both times it was just a large-size latte cup full of milk with a single shot. That’s not even close to being a cappuccino! I even tested my luck once ordering a cortado and yet again, it was just a large latte lol. If they’re only willing/able to make large lattes, that’s totally fine — but they should update the menu. :)

The atmosphere of this place is amazing. The staff seemed nice and friendly. I’m sad about the coffee and muffin I got. The iced coffee I got tasted very weak and more like water. I got the morning glory muffin because it looked the best, but it was incredibly dry and dense. I’d come back for the environment and hopefully try again on the coffee

Parking was a little tricky, and the meal was okay - as well as the coffee- it was all “okay”. The chicken salad was more tarragon than chicken. You get 2 free hours of WiFi and then you have to pay for access, also not many outlets to plug in if you have to.

We need another coffee place down south. I was just getting used to The Hive being closed on Mondays and now they’re closed on Tuesdays. I wonder how many more days will be rolled in for a lack of convenience.

Ordered a birthday cake and honey vanilla latte, and genuinely couldn't tell the difference. Sandwiches were mediocre as well. Service was good, but ambiance was disappointing. Is probably a great spot for a quick coffee and a place for small children to play, but that's about it.

I've been coming here for years and unfortunately wont be back my daughter and I both got extremely moldy blueberry muffins today im very pregnant and now feel very nervous and uncomfortable coming back. My daughter took 2 big bites I took one one and it made my tongue numb immediately.

First time here and pictures are very misleading. No orange juice. No yogurt when it’s advertised on the menu. Breakfast options are minimum. And only 1 person attending at the coffee bar. No server. I want to support local businesses. But not like this. Sorry.

Today I came for a coffee and waited 20 minutes and 3 people who came after me were served before me. When I finally got it, the milk was burnt. I handed it right back and they didn’t even offer a refund. I spent $6 to wait and leave empty handed. I want to love The Hive but I consistently have a bad experience. The backyard for the kids was great but now it’s locked from the back so I can’t bring the stroller in.

The Matcha literally was so brown like in the picture it’s bright green but seven dollars for a Matcha that is brown is actually diabolical. Y’all chill but dude that tasted like expired milk with some sugar. Stay blessed and change that matcha 🙏🏼👻

Wife went in and got two breakfast sandwiches and two lattes. We ate in the car as our dogs were with us. Breakfast sandwiches were worse than Jimmy Dean store bought. Mine had as many cold spots as warm spots since they’re obviously micro waved. Wife took hers home micro waved it as it was too cold to eat when they served it. Coffees were like warm and not spectacular. One nice server and one rude server making coffee who was offended when wife asked which coffee was which. I think I ate more wax paper than sandwich. Won’t be back.

The worst matcha latte I’ve ever had. Like another poster said, it was the wrong color (sort of brown and expired) and overly sweet. I wanted to like this place but I paid $8 for a drink I threw away.

If you would like to pay $13.79 for a single bloody Mary. This is the spot for you. Poor customer service from a man or woman. Couldn't exactly tell. But yea. Drink prices are super expensive. Don't waste your time when you can go get a $6 bloody Mary at any bar down the street.

Quite literally the worst matcha latte and burger I’ve ever had in all of the Austin area. Very disappointing experience and the service wasn’t great. I felt like an inconvenience ordering my meal. Do not recommend.

It all started on a rainy Sunday morning. Hunger struck and the turkey Cajun sandwich seemed the perfect meal, with spinach, pepper jack cheese, and spicy mayo. Little did I know that this meal was full of lies and betrayal. Act one: The spinach As I opened the styrofoam takeout box that they give for people dining in (for some reason?) my eyes opened wider in horror as the spinach I was promised in the menu was completely absent. The only vegetable in the meal had vanished, maybe as an early warning not heeded. When I asked where my missing spinach had gone, she asked me if I wanted it on the side as if I am one of their employees assembling the sandwiches. Next time I order they might as well just dump the flour and all ingredients and send me to the back so that I can make it properly the first time. If only I listened to the warning. Act two: “Spicy Mayo” After the kitchen managed to do the difficult task of putting spinach in 4 ingredient sandwich, I was ready to eat. The first bite I felt a twang in my mouth that no mayo had ever twanged. No hint of any mayo, but the illusory substitution of whole grain mustard, no warning, no information only a half hearted attempt to hide its true identity. With no mayo and no spinach, you would think at this point, only a fool would go on, yet a fool I was. If only it stopped here. Act three: The cheese touch Nearing the end of the sandwich my mind was in a whirlwind of emotion, betrayal, lies and deception had swirled when I saw third and final lie that would prevent any absolution. “Et tu cheese” I said I opened the sandwich in sheer horror. The pepper jack cheese foretold was neither pepper, nor jack. It was provolone. My eyes were to fixated on the absent spinach the first time, that I didn’t see the lie in front of my very own eyes of the false cheese. With that, one sandwich fooled me not once, not twice, but thrice. I can’t ever bring myself to come back again, it’s already made a fool out of me, don’t let it make a fool out of you. And if all this does not dissuade you, the drink are no good and the tip screen STARTS at like 22%. I didn’t heed the spinach’s warned so please heed mine.
