If you’re looking for a spot on South Lamar that feels like a true neighborhood gem rather than a tourist trap, El Mesón Tequileria is it. It’s one of those rare places where the food actually matches the quality of the tequila. The Patio: It’s easily one of the best dining setups in the area. It's spacious and chilled out—ideal for a long, breezy dinner where you actually want to hear the person across the table. The House Margarita: This is the gold standard. It’s crisp, perfectly tart, and clearly made with fresh lime and decent tequila, not that neon-green syrupy mix. The Tres Leches: Do not skip this. It’s incredibly rich and soaked just right without getting mushy. It’s easily a contender for the best in Austin.

Ate here with my wife and 3 kids. I'd describe it as home-cooked high-quality Mexican food. Everyone loved it. Food was delicious. Loved the Chicken Mole. The staff really shine at this place also! They are genuinely kind and caring people. What an experience....amazing food and wonderful people. I'd recommend this place to anyone. Five stars!!

Start with Nick at the bar with the Best Margaritas! I have to say as a great cook of Mexican food and best tamales…. I prefer El Meson above any Mexican Restaurant in Austin. But have you had the Chicken Soup? I don’t care if it’s 102 degrees, I will crave this chicken soup. I leave so happy. In my opinion and I’m from San Antonio, it’s the BEST Chicken Soup in, TEXAS!!!!!!!!!

I have been coming here for years and this place is no where near horrible NOR has poor service as one sad customer commented, and I too am a 'healthy' latina! The food here is very interior Mexico, really healthy & homemade. The people are always so respectful, kind and wonderful; especially to my non verbal sister with severe autism. Do also send our kind regards to all your chefs! Muchisimas gracias!

I love El Mesón! We have hosted our last several Holiday Parties here and the whole crew is so nice and warm. They treat us so well! Always love our experience here.

Love this place! There's fancier places, but this is the place I keep coming back to again and again. Definitely try their street tacos (especially the Ribeye con Chicharron De Queso) and mole poblano. Honestly this place is worth going to even just for the chips and salsa!

Absolutely phenomenal Sunday brunch. Authentic Mexican dishes, fruit, yogurt, desserts, anything you could possibly want. Eggs, pancakes, and French toast cooked to order. Relaxed atmosphere with family-style self service. I'll never go to Snooze again. THIS is THE brunch spot.

My family and I came here for a birthday buffet brunch on a Sunday. We got here right when they opened and parked right on the side. We used the parking pass so we scanned our phones and then put the code in once we walked in and we had the free parking for up to two hours which was great because by the time we left i had 15 minutes remaining. As we came right as they opened and we had a reservation of 6 plus a baby we got seated right away. I will say it wasn't crazy busy when we came in but as the morning progressed it got busier. Once seated our waitress came over right away to explain how everything worked for the buffet and then took any special drink orders. After that we headed up put our glove on and started grabbing food. I will say they had quite a selection of foods. As this is Mexican we did not know what to expect as it is hard to find true Mexican food in ATX. To give note my family is from Southern AZ right on the border of AZ to Mexico so yes they know what real authentic Mexican food is. For the food portion we were not disappointed and were actually surprised by how great everything was. What a treat it is to find something that isn't tex mex. The talk of the table was we will want to come back and maybe do the actual menu. The waitress gave us a menu and we were pleased with the plates and the prices. As you know real authentic Mexican food in AZ isn't a arm and a leg so to see prices that were actually normal was great. The service was awesome our waitress answered our questions and came by often to clear any empty plates and refill our drinks. If you live in the surrounding areas outside ATX i highly recommend that this place is worth the drive into the city. Thank you El Meson to a delicious and fun Sunday morning with my family.

What an experience! You arrive as strangers and leave as friends, the Godinez family made our dining experience an unforgettable one. We thoroughly enjoyed their authentic mexican cuisine, hospitality and decor. We will definitely back when we are next in Austin.

The interior Mexican food here is excellent! Prices are very reasonable. It’s a locally owned and operated restaurant. The owners are often there, friendly and welcoming , as are the wait staff! If you like to support excellent local restaurants, they’re the best! Their guacamole is great! I love the mole verde, it’s so good and not on other menus! Homemade corn tortillas, hot sauces, and we’ve never had anything that wasn’t great!

Very happy to have found this restaurant. They have authentic Mexican that is prepared in a very polished, but not fancy, way. I can’t wait to go for breakfast and try their pancakes!

Nice place with lots of seating options. Parking is a bit tricky but you get validations on the parking. The margaritas were nice and pretty stiff, for my liking. The pastor tacos under seasoned for me however they were very well cooked and the tortillas were fresh. The queso fundido was spot on and the chorizo absolutely delicious. The Tortillas were fresh, soft and delicious. I liked the dining experience and I would come again try out their other dishes.

Came for a quick dinner and was interested in the new VEGAN Items. I had a Jefe and totopos y salsa. Great experience with perfect service. Keep up the great work and next up Vegan Queso checkout Rebel Cheese or Peace Cheese for options. Back for a weekend Mexican Martini, guacamole and the Vegan Pastor♥️

Excellent food here, and great service. The parking was a little weird but you just need to go inside and sign in before you pay. It’s actually free parking for El Meson customers. I had the Green Mole enchiladas and those are SO delicious. Everything was prepared perfectly including the rice (and I’m a rice snob). I highly recommend this restaurant.

Great Mexican food! Went here for the guacamole as I read good reviews. The guac was good but I really enjoyed the tacos. The French toast was on point. I appreciate using croissants rather than regular white toast. Friendly staff and good service. The food was very affordable. Definitely recommended.

I enjoyed this Mexican restaurant. I still do not understand why our party of 4 was the only patrons in the whole establishment that night. Most places are packed on Saturday. Weird. Good food, great service and decent drinks. Puzzling but good.

Sunday brunch was disappointing. The food quality wasn’t great, and since it’s a self-serve setup, the experience already feels a bit limited compared to a full-service brunch. What bothered me most was that an automatic 18% tip was included, even though there’s very little actual table service. I prefer to decide myself how much to tip based on the service provided. On top of that, we were charged twice for the mimosas, which shouldn’t happen and made the experience even more frustrating. Overall, the value didn’t match the price or expectations for a relaxed Sunday brunch.

Decent food BUT way OVERPRICED with an awful parking lot. They added a 18% gratuity for 2 adults and ONE 7 yrs old boy. Went twice, never more.

We just left this place and I want to warn ⚠️ everybody Not to come to this place. The food is horrible. A "ribeye" was disgusting and the chicken poblano has no flavor whatsoever. On top of that we paid $99 for a terrible experience. Yikes 😝😝🤮 *Response to your comment To my Review* Hi Tachira, I am terrybly sorry you did not like the Mole Poblano with chiken , right, that is what you meant when you write "Chicken poblano"? We make our Mole from scratch and we use about 21 ingredients to make it, so it is hard to belive ' it has no flavor". We do finish our Reveye with sea salt and a bit of butter when serve on the hot skillet, so again I am really confused, specially when you took all of your leftovers home. ** First of all, I have been to many mexican Restaurants in the USA and in Mexico (Yucatan Peninsula and Riviera Maya) and many other places and I know what a Mexican food should taste like. So, I will never recommend this place to anybody. **Secondly, I paid for ALL the food so, It was my choice not yours to do with it whatever I pleased, besides you would have thrown it away in the trash So I gave it to my dog. With all the respect, the flavors in Mexican cuisine could be complex and yes, we do use a lot of dry and fresh chiles on our food, sometjng you aslo complaint about, but I am sorry, it is a Mexican restaurant. The comparison to Cuban cuisine which I actually love, had no grounds. That is probably why you did not understood our menu. ** Thirdly, I never made a comparison with Cuban food, I am not Cuban and I totally understood the "menu". You have no respect for other's opinion that don't fit your narrative and your believe. paz y amor! **- did not find peace nor love in that place**

The owners of El Maison Yves Macias and Marisela Godinez, have created a parking situation in the lot they own that feels like it should be illegal. They boot vehicles and charge patrons $75 to leave the premise through a contract they made with EntraPark, who then contracts Central Parking Enforcement, a private towing/booting company associated with aggressive and predatory enforcement. The towing company workers were not visible on arrival and appear to boot the vehicles almost immediately after you walk into the restaurant. The signage is woefully inadequate with about a 12-point thin white font saying payment required on arrival. There is no mention of a $75 cash or credit requirement or a mention of booting or towing. If customers don’t validate parking before eating instead of after, they are literally forced to pay an excessive amount of money on the spot to go home. This feels like extortion because it goes far beyond a reasonable step to reserve parking spaces for patrons of the nearby businesses. I went looking for any signage that mentions this practice and the only one I could find was tiny, and only posted at the entrance to the driveway with a ton of other signs near it so that no one would be able to read it as they are turning off a busy throughfare like Lamar Blvd. That sign seemed to be about 50 yards from the back parking lot and there are buildings between that lot and that sign. I saw so many angry patrons forced to pay this required fee to be able to leave the restaurant. This may be technically legal somehow under a loophole, but it is unethical, predatory, and terrible business practice.

Horrible food, poor service, it was very slow business and took them 20 minutes to take our order. Food was over seasoned and I found a piece of a plastic fork in my food which I almost choked on. They did provide a to go plate but I declined since it was horrible tasting. I ordered a chili rellenor with beef it was not savory it was sweet with cinnamon that over powered the other seasoning. I absolutely will not be returning and do not recommend if your Latino and know your Latino cuisine.

I was really happy to go in but, first surprise: $18 first 2hrs parking. We were welcome and we're told about the Sunday brunch, they never mentioned price per person or so. And before walking to our table they told us that we didn't have to pay for parking, already done. Food was not hot enough, not really taste, not a big variety. Per social media I expected a bigger selection. At the end we got the check, it included 18% gratuity. I asked and the guy told me he could do anything to change since we were told about it. I told him you were our hostess and never explained us price/tip percentage included. We believe gratuity is an option, depending on service and we usually leave it cash to assignated server. We don't think it was fair since service was not the best.

My water tasted weird, my food took forever and no one else was in the restaurant. The service was also terrible and slow. Food was bland. Basically taco bell but worse. You’ll have a better time at Matt’s El Rancho, and they suck too.

The absolute worst food I've ever had on S Lamar 😫 also $10 to park in a restaurant parking lot is mind boggling. The staff was super friendly. Edit: was not enjoying the buffet options, only trying to find what could like. Not one option was tasty.
