Love the dumplings here! The name is very appropriate. There’s several locations of this restaurant and this one is consistent with great service and menu. I’m in love with their garlicky green beans and vegetarian dumplings. Indoor and outdoor seating available. There were dogs allowed on the patio.

My husband and I went to Dumpling Time on Monday. From the moment we walked in the ambiance was inviting and the service was exceptional. But what truly made our evening unforgettable was our server, Jaime! His attention to detail, warmth, and genuine care really elevated the entire experience. He anticipated our needs before we could even voice them. He was refilling drinks, checking in at just the right moments, and offering spot-on recommendations that turned out to be absolutely delicious! I particularly love the green beans and seafood gyozas he recommended! It's rare to encounter someone who not only does their job so well but also clearly takes pride in creating a memorable experience for every guest. It’s the kind of service that turns a great meal into an unforgettable one. If you're dining here, do yourself a favor and ask for Jaime. You'll be in the best hands. Can’t wait to come back!

The server was very helpful, giving information about how long each different dumpling takes to come out. The bbq pork buns were fantastic, fluffy, rich, perfectly cooked. The pho dumplings were amazing, I burned my mouth several times because I couldn't wait before shoving it in my mouth (they were SO good). The gyoza was perfectly crispy. They have a lovely outdoor seating area.

SO YUMMY! I got the Wakame Salad, Har Gow, and Siu Mai. All the dishes were delicious, and the cilantro green sauce that comes with the Har Gow was different but soooo good. The service was 10/10, every single staff member was attentive, quick, and kind. My server’s name was Mar, she gave great service and was also very attentive. I’ll be coming back here soon, and recommend it to anyone looking for some good dumplings in Berkeley!

It was my first time there. I really enjoyed the seafood gyoza, veggie dumplings and chrysanthemum tea. Friendly staff 👍

I had shrimp toast, tom yum dumplings, and lamb dumplings, and they were all super tasty and unique. I love how they introduced new flavors to the dumplings, especially the fusion with Thai tastes in the tom yum. I absolutely loved it! The prices are reasonable, and the atmosphere is great. Although the service was a bit slow, it’s still a fantastic place to dine in.

Arrived at 3pm for a late and still had a 5 minute wait. Service was quick and, friendly, we ordered chicken potstickers, curry noodles, green beans, lobster shu mai, and shrimp toast. Food was tasty - will return!!

Everything tastes divine and exquisite! I loved the xiao long bao, and the fun xiao long bao with beets skin, shiu mai, sesame jellyfish, pork bao (the skin is one of the best bread I’ve had from a bao, so soft and moist), har gow is soo tasty, and maine lobster 🦞 siu mai was a treat with nice chunks of lobster 🦞! Can’t wait to go back for more! Albeit a little pricey but worth it in this inflationary environment

Second day open, went on a whim (had planned to go elsewhere but walked by not knowing it was open). Quick seating, quick service, absolutely amazing food. The servers were attentive and ensured we were taken care of and informed on expectations (i.e. small, shareable plate focus). They were also helpful with and welcoming of our 2 year old dining with us. Highly recommend and looking forward to returning soon :)

It is finally open, my favorite dishes are beef gyoza and pork soup’s dumplings. Both of dishes are very delicious and seasoning very well. Services are great, easy to order and food came pretty fast on the table.

A charming hole-in-the-wall gem that offers a delightful experience for anyone with a love for dumplings. As a vegan I wish they had more menu options but they do feature a selection of rice dishes and refreshing drinks. The perfect place for a quick bite, sharing with friends, or grabbing takeout to enjoy at home.

We weren't sure where to go eat and decided to try this place. It has indoor and outdoor seating. If it was warmer then I would have sat outside. We were pleasantly surprised. The place is pretty nice. The Tom Yum xiaolingbao soup was so delicious. You can really taste the lemongrass though there was not as much soup as I'd like. The pot stickers were quite nice too. Loved the chrysanthemum tea.

Big fan of this place. The food is delicious and it's a great place to relax on a nice day. I LOVE the shrimp toast, but if I'm being honest everything I've had there was very tasty. It's right in the heart of fourth street so it's a nice stop in when you're walking around, and if it's busy you can put your name in and walk the strip. Dog friendly exterior seating as well.

Excellent dumpling place located in the heart of West berkeley, good selection of dumplings including some of my favorites like pan-seared pork buns and Szechuan noodles. It's a place that they stay open a little later than most of the dim sum spots in the east bay. Note. This is not a cheap dim sum place and all the stuff leans towards the more expensive.

L

This dumpling place exceeded my expectations, offering a unique twist to traditional flavors. We tried the lamb dumpling, tom yum, and lobster. I absolutely loved the lobster, especially with the added truffle, although it can get a bit heavy if you have too much. We also ordered the seajellyfish things, I don’t remember the name exact, a dish that proved a bit tricky and didn't quite match our taste preferences, unlike the traditional way of doing it. The dumplings were a highlight—the skins were just right, not too thick. However, our main hiccup was the wait time. Despite being at the top of the waitlist, we waited much longer than we expected, and the server couldn't provide an estimate. Despite this, the food surpassed my expectations, making it a worthwhile visit overall.

First time visit. The food was really good! My favorite part was the desert! The Trio of Buns. The waiting is really long, super crowded, since it is very popular. The service is quick once you get a seat. It was really noisy for my taste but the tasty food compasated the waiting and the noise. They have inside seating and outdoor seating. Be aware that a 4%will add to your tob for leaving wage surcharge. It's hard to find parking due to the popular stores around. Restrooms $$$

Nice interior and fast service. “Open-faced dumpling” aka pork siu mai was delicious. Other dumpling dishes were a bit of fusion interpretation. 8-9 pm 15% discount Sunday to Thursday happy hour was a brilliant idea.

What a fun, quick dumpling spot! Dumpling Time is a small, convenient spot serving dumplings, noodle soups, and bao buns in a quaint setting. Parking is pretty easy to find with spots and lots around there. With both an inside and outside there’s some flexibility in seating options and we chose to sit outside with our dog, which was a huge plus. Service was good but we did have to flag them down twice for things. For food we got some beef noodle soup, pork soup dumplings, and bbq pork bao. All were good and surprisingly filling considering the portion sizes. The beef noodle soup in particular was nice to slurp down on a lukewarm afternoon and had a nice deep flavor to the broth. The soup dumplings were also standouts being tasty and with a nice texture to the dumpling itself. This is a good spot to come out with friends to or just have a casual meal. Everyone liked their food and we were more than satisfied after we finished up.

A relaxed clean restaurant specializing in dumplings. We enjoyed a wood ear mushrooms dressed in a pleasantly spicy sauce. My favorite was the green beans. Very flavorful. And a nice sized portion. We also tried the Xi ha Chilli pork dumplings. Steamed with a strong flavor of 5 spice. Decent heat not crazy spicy hot. Pork gyoza was next with a delicate lacy fried skirt around the base. The flavor was good. Shu‐Mai was probably my favorite dumplings we had. The flavor was so delicious. Decent prices. I would enjoy smaller dishes at a smaller price. The dishes on the menu ranged from the 9 dollar range to 20. The portions are fair to large. We took home almost half so enough for a small dinner for hubby later. All in all he enjoyed it a bit more than I did. Service was nice. That is all.

Came here for the first time with a few people, all the food we ordered was great! We tried the crispy tofu squares, veggie spring rolls, seaweed salad, gyoza, XLB bao. One downside is the price, we ended up spending a fair amount per person due to the small portions. Service was just okay, we felt ignored or forgotten by our server at times and they didn't have enough clean dishes to provide water cups or silverware during parts of our service.

I got wagyu (black truffle mushroom) I didn’t like it to the point I didn’t finish them. I agree with other reviews that dishes r not worth the price. 2 Tofu pieces for 18$ didn’t hold the value. U can get better tofu dishes for that price around. Wings and dumplings were ok.

C
Chris P

Service is 2 stars, food is 3 stars. Dumplings are greasy. Getting a refill on water took forever even after waving the empty bottle. The food presentation looks great, unfortunately tastes just ok. I recommend the mushroom salad, stay away from the wagyu gyoza!

C

The pork dumplings have average flavor. The portion is very small. For 6 small dumplings, I paid close to $20. The service is mediocre. It was 6 PM on a Saturday night, the place was not busy and had only about 6 dine-in customers. But it took almost 30 minutes to get my 6 small dumplings. BTW, the waitress recommended Sui Mai in a dumpling shop. When I asked why, she cited that this is a fusion restaurant. It sounded like they don't want to be an authentic dumpling shop. The outdoor sitting is nice on a quiet street curbside. If you just want a beer, perhaps it's not a bad place to go.

C

Selections are limited. Dumplings are mediocre and pricey. You can get much better dumplings in many Chinese restaurants in the Bay Area. Portions are small. Overall, it is not worthy.

Food is okay not great dumplings but it's good not too bad. Fried long beans vege was good so was fried lacey gyoza. I liked the salt and pepper tofu with dipping too. Don't bother ordering any fried noodle sososooo bad, tasteless, dry and not fully cooked.

Solid experience if you're in the mood for dumplings. No wow factor, but pleasant enough all around. Food was ok. Decent flavors but seemed a bit stale like everything had been done a day or two before, and nothing really popped. Pleasant enough but not something you'd crave to go back for unless in the neighborhood and in the mood for it. Service was pleasant, but had to ask for things. Venue is on the alley and bit up from the main street, so nice outside and ok inside.

Service Kitchen 5/5 Take out exists as of last Tuesday 9.1.22. Delivered hot from the kitchen 14 mins on a crowded Monday Labor Day night. Wait for a table was 30 mins. Service front staff service 1/5 Front staff. When asked whether they would take cash for a take out order, she prefer we do not pay in cash because that would mean she would have to get her manager to handle the transaction. She said we prefer you not pay in cash. Food: Ordered Hao gow, seafood gyoza and Tom yum xlb. When I received the order, the portions seems small especially the xlb. Hao gow $9.50 4 pieces 5/5 The shrimp was perfectly cooked al dente crunchy shrimp morsels and seasoned well with sesame seed oil wrapped in a glutinous rice dough. It came with a green salty cilantro and sesame seed oil paste dipping sauce...that was not needed nor adds to the dumpling's flavor profile. The dumpling is perfect by itself. This dish was fantastic . . . but also expensive relative to other places that serve Hao gow equally as good. Seafood gyoza $15.50 6 pieces 2/5 Pan fried seafood dumplings Shrimp, scallop and ground fish meat. It had a mild spicy kick and lemon grass reminiscent of Tom yum soup. Taste wise it was good. I bit down on something hard and found shrimp shell inside my gyoza. The shrimp was cooked more than the hao gow and was a little chewy. This dish when plated in the restaurant comes with a beautiful hong kong style lace of rose water and flour that makes a pretty lace display over the gyoza. In the take out box, however, the lacing fell apart and has a texture of stale chips. The gyoza was greasy for my tastes. Tom yum xlb $12 6 pieces The XLBness: There was a little bit of "soup" to suck out. You suck the juice out of each dumpling like an oyster first. Each one comes in its own pie tin. But the xlb dumpling skin sticks to the tin and all the juices pour out if you try to remove the dumpling from the tin before sucking. These xlb dumplings seems small relative to Din Tai Fung's ones. I didn't like the texture of the meat filling. It was chewy and not consistently ground. It is a tasty different take on the standard pork and shrimp xlb dumpling. There is a 4% surcharge for living wage. Instead of a surcharge I would rather the prices be incorporated in the menu prices. Please bring back frozen dumplings that DT offered in the pop ups!

This is just average. It definitely didn't live up to the hype and was a bit overpriced. The dumpling options were few when I was expecting more. The pictures looked better than what we received. A bit disappointing, but not horrible.

Mixed feelings about this place..everything that has the chili sign is supposed to spicy but wasn’t really spicy. We ordered Pork XLB was good but not great, it definitely lacked flavor. I was disappointed coz it was stuck to the foil cup it came in and you cannot pull it out without breaking it. Crispy tofu was good and soft inside but wasn’t crispy outside We did the spicy chicken wings which was not at all spicy but it was quite good Pork gyoza was great and was very flavorful, this was also my favorite dish. We also got the jasmine green tea which was also good. Service was average.. overall 3.5/5

This used to be a decent go to - sit outside, enjoy the weather, eat dumplings. But it’s slowly dragging down the portion size and last time we were there, the staple soy, vinegar and chilli oil on the table just weren’t … there. We were then given dry har gow without the usual sauce and had to wait 10 mins and ask twice to get a side of soy sauce - which was just soy sauce without the vinegar - and filled up 1/3 of the sauce cup. At this point we just gave up. But if the profit margins are so thin that rationing sauces is where we are at, we will be going for atmosphere alone in future and not expect to eat a meal.

It gets quite busy on the weekends, so you might have a wait during prime time. HOWEVER, the wait doesn't matter for me because there are plenty of seating on 4th street and open benches for a great afternoon take out meal! Dumpling time is a bit pricey for what it is, maybe due to the trendiness. It's good, not great and should be cheaper imo. I really enjoy the Chili Pork Dumplings and the Lamb Dumplings. The lamb dumplings come with a green onion oil which has great flavor, but they also include a side of the chili sauce which I love adding to it as well. I stopped getting the XLB here because it's flimsy and always comes apart with the soup getting everywhere.

Way better food spots nearby for similar price. The xiao long bao (they call it "XPB" here for some reason... it's the same amount of syllables but whatever lol) was warm and not hot. The regular one was probably the best - the unique flavors were fun but not super memorable. Food was very mid. Overpriced for what it is. The bottom of our soup spoons had reside from the price tag. They need to use Goo-Gone to remove the residue as it picks up dust and dirt more easily. Gimmicky spot. Staff was friendly.

B
Bianca Nunez

Extremely mid. Do not be fooled like I was. Tried a variety of menu items, all were lacking in flavor. I feel misled by the reviews for this place. I saw it recommended on TikTok, and decided to give it a try-but I should’ve trusted my gut when I saw the restaurant nearly empty at peak dinner time. I came to the harsh realization that the TikToker, being a micro influencer, was probably paid to post and isn’t a credible reviewer. Another review, on Google this time, mentioned dumplings, but the reviewer said they were vegan and didn’t even taste them. They also described a variety of “refreshing drinks,” but there were only the basics: beer, wine, and literally two cocktails. Be sure to not order the one rice dish they offer-a subpar fried rice with corn. When I asked for regular steamed rice, I was told they didn’t have any, which was surprising given they make fried rice. The empty dining room and the lackluster menu spoke for themselves. I wouldn’t recommend spending your money here.

P
Porschia S

That was the most unsatisfying $100 lunch I’ve had in a WHILE! $23 for fried rice with shrimp and egg when it came out in a small single serve bowl was straight robbery. Jesus. It had like 2 pieces of shrimp in it too. Nice veg options. Food tasted good, but was so insanely priced for how simple the food is. I am sure the lease for that location is high but holy cow the prices were shocking. Our server didn’t give us much time to decide on what to order. And then he never checked on us. And then, when we were done be hovered over the handheld credit card machine and watched to see what tip I picked. I wanted to give him 0 but because he was staring at the screen as I tapped I ended up giving 15%… even though they charge 6% for a living wage tax. Berkeley has gotten insane with this stuff. I could maybe have excused the pricing if the server was chill. But man.. I don’t think I’ll ever go back. I’ll make my own dumplings at home!

I’ve eaten here 5 or 6 times in the last year. But this is probably the last time. Had lunch there last week. And the portions were so small, the meal felt like a complete rip-off. I never felt this before, but the price-quantity ratio is now completely absurd. We got Scallion Noodles with shrimp ($14 for the noodles, $8 extra for the shrimp), and green beans ($14). In all the Thai, Vietnamese, and Chinese restaurants I eat at in the Bay area, you order a $22 dish, you will be full and have leftovers. This dish was not even enough to fill up one person. The quantity of noodles was unconscionably small, given the $14 price. $8 extra got us 6 small-medium shrimp. The green beans we have got before, and the portions used to be *much* larger. For a $14 vegetable dish, the quantity presented to us was ludicrous. We weren’t very hungry. Had expected our $36 order to fill us up. We had to order Chicken Gyoza (which took 25 minutes to come; it’s never taken that long before). This dish, for $13, was the only one where we felt the price-quantity ratio was acceptable. However, I still wasn’t full after this $49 meal, which really says it all. I used to come here with InKind and get 20% cashback on my meal. Even after that discount, I felt ripped off. If I were paying full price, I would feel even more cheated. If you like the food here, and are happy to pay these prices for these quantities, you should make the most of it while they are still open. I can't imagine they are going to survive very long with their current price to quantity ratio.

I’m extremely disappointed with our recent visit to Dumpling Time in Berkeley. We ordered Pork Xiao Long Bao, and when we opened them, the pork filling inside was clearly undercooked — still pink and raw in the center. This is absolutely unacceptable, especially when serving pork. Undercooked meat is a serious food safety issue and can be dangerous, particularly for children. We ordered the take out for the kids, and it’s frightening to think what could have happened if they had eaten the dumplings without us checking first. Serving undercooked pork is not just a small mistake — it’s a major health risk. Overall, it was a horrible experience. We expected much better in terms of food safety and quality control. The restaurant needs to take this issue seriously to ensure no other families are put at risk.
