Solid ramen spot in a great location! I got the Miso with Spicy Pork and Soy Egg. Super tasty and flavorful broth. Very filling and would highly recommend. It can be expensive once you add all the additional items, but a solid option that fills your ramen needs.
good ramen. I got the vegetarian miso (there aren’t many vegetarian options which is understandable because I know many broths are meat based) and the flavor was rich and umami. the biggest tell was me being perfectly content to just sip the soup on its own. would return!
Chuko might have the best broth of any ramen place around. The food is so so good and the staff members are all very friendly. I think it is a little over-priced with every add-on costing so much, but I’ve been twice and both visits were wonderful.
The vegetarian ramen I ordered was delightful! The noodles were great (soft without being soggy and falling apart) and the broth was savory without being too salty. We arrived early in the evening and the restaurant was already busy, but we snagged a seat outside and we were served quickly. Staff was attentive and the overall vibe was relaxed but energetic. I would definitely return!
So, so delicious. One of my favorite ramen spots in town, and a nice sake selection too! When dining in was an option it was often packed, but the hosts always did a great job managing expectations and trying to keep everyone comfortable while we waited. Food was always worth the wait!
The ramen! The shrimp buns! The wings! Love it!
Solid food all around. Good sake/beer. Great service. I tried to eat here a while back. The wait was well over an hour so it didn't work out. This time on a rainy Tuesday at 6pm I was the first person at the restauraunt and no wait! Staff was super friendly, holding the door for me while I got myself situated and asking if I needed anything while I waited for a friend. Server was very knowledgeable and knew her way around the menu and what she recommends. The pork and shrimp buns are great. The crispy Brussels were also really tasty. The fried tofu was interesting but not as good as roasted pork. She told us all of this and it was true. Also the ramen dog sake is refreshing and you can keep the cup!
My favorite ramen spot. So flavorful and always consistent. I love that every style of ramen can be with pork broth or vegetarian. Get the brussels sprouts.
I love the vegetarian ramen at Chuko. Silky, but not overly rich, I would eat it every day if someone would let me. It's worth the wait (just grab a drink at Weather Up across the street). The service is always on-point, even though they're dealing with customers who have been waiting a while. A couple of veg notes -- the chili oil contains oyster sauce, but your server will bring an excellent spice powder as a substitute. The kale salad is tasty, but it's more fried than fresh. Update! Since moving to a larger location up the block, there's more seating & they now serve two types of vegetarian ramen and they'll make the Brussels sprouts app vegetarian if you ask. I've never not had an excellent experience there.
Never go wrong with their ramen Best in Brooklyn
Ok this place is very underrated! This ramen is top notch. I got the garlic sesame ramen and it was awesome. I also got one of the shrimp bao buns to start , not expecting much and it was so good ? The roasted pork in the ramen melted in your mouth seriously. The ramen noodles were a perfect texture. The servers were really nice. Came in here expecting some mid ramen but I was pleasantly surprised by the high quality!! Def will be back. Best ramen I’ve had in prospect heights crown heights area for sure.
amazed at the incredible service + food. we were seated quickly, the waiters were extremely kind. the food was out of this world, chili soy chicken wings were the favorite. sesame garlic ramen was delicious. they even gave me extra broth at the end to bring home cus i drank it all :') super lovely restaurant.
Good food and atmosphere: The interior is minimalistic with accent of wood and dark metal. The dining room is filled with groovy loungy music. The yaki Gyoza are rich but nicely crispy outside. The veggie soyu ramen with roasted pork has a rich simple flavor with a zing of lemon.
Craving some really good ramen when I was in town a few weeks ago, and went here with friends just after it opened on a Sunday. There was no wait at all around about 5:30, and the ramen itself came out quickly. It was really tasty, a good creamy broth with flavorful meat and a tender egg. It felt trendy but approachable, and the food made it extra worthy of a followup. I’ll be back next time I’m in New York!
Cute and humble Ramen in a really hip part of BK. Perfect for a date night! They have really customizable Ramen bowls which was perfect for me because I can get a little picky with that I want. I recommend adding Nori, the hardboiled egg, scallions, and the chili sauce to any bowl you get!
My go-to ramen spot. I’ve been eating here for years it’s my favorite place to go alone. The staff is always attentive. And the ramen is consistently amazing. The buns and Brussel spouts are always an amazing additional to the meal. But sometimes I channel my inner Naruto and get two bowls because it’s just that good. Sometimes there’s a long wait but there’s plenty of bars around that you can go grab a drink while you wait for a table or seat at the bar.
Thankfully they were open on New Years Day. Can't go wrong with the buns, sprouts, wings & the RAMEN! Special thanks to Angie for being so welcoming.
Chuko is such a vibe with plenty of seating. Although it has a small menu, they have a wonderful option of ramens to choose from. We have chosen to get the Spicy Miso Ramen a try. The broth of blended miso paste, and chili peppers gave it a bold flavor that was both spicy and salty. The noodles were thin, curly, and tasty absorbing the flavors of the broth. The overall taste of spicy miso ramen is satisfying and warming.
Pricey but worth it. It's hard to not kick yourself after spending $25 on a bowl of ramen, but I'm not mad. The noodles were fresh and perfectly chewy, the broth was delicious, and it was a perfect spicy bowl of comfort on a cold day. My friend got a pork bun and said it was delicious as well. We shared a bottle of sake, which completed the entire experience. We went for dinner on a Monday night and were sat immediately. I advise arriving before 7pm if you have more than 2 people and don't want to wait.
This place is amazing. I remember them located across the street or it might be something else. The space is big and opens late. The food is delicious especially the chicken wings. Food is good. Too bad we ate beforehand but we end up order for half of the table and the ramen is amazing. Great flavor and well made. Service is great. Food came pretty quickly and we appreciate they are understanding that some of us ate beforehand.
Amazing broth, thick and flavorful. I got the kimchi ramen and I’d highly recommend it :) Brussels sprouts were delicious too. They will sit you when your party is there, or they can put you on a waitlist (your full party might need to also be there). Came on a Tuesday night at 7:40pm and was seated within 10min. Staff was wonderful and friendly.
I had the extremely rare opportunity to be in Brooklyn, near the Barclay's Center on Thursday, 3/22/18 around lunchtime, so I took that opportunity to try someplace new. I googled "food near me" and "best food in Brooklyn" and both times Chuko came up. Its only a few minute walk from the Barclay's so I decided to go check it out. When I arrived, it wasn't open yet because it was only 11:45am and they don't open until noon. It was very cold standing out front for 15 minutes and I was hoping they would open the doors a little early and let me in, but they didn't. Oh well, the food was worth the wait. I started off by ordering a steamed pork bun. It was definitely the best pork bun that I've ever had. The pork was a thick slab of soft and juicy pork belly, with pickled carrots and cucumbers and chili mayo on a soft and warm bao bun. Excellent!! For my ramen, I went with the pork bone broth, soft egg and roasted pork. I've only had ramen at two restaurants on Long Island, but this blew them both out of the water! The broth was amazing, there were a ton of noodles in the bowl, the mushrooms were flavorful, the egg was poached perfectly and the pork was more of the soft, tender, delicious, thick sliced pork belly that was also in the bun. My only complaint is that I wish there was more pork in the bowl! Getting into Brooklyn isn't easy, but is definitely worth it to go to Chuko! I can't wait to have the exact same order the next time I'm there!!
Really good bowl of sesame garlic ramen. Enjoyed the pork buns but could have gone without the spicy pickles. Plenty of seating for groups which seemed full when we showed up but it was just the two of us and we sat right away. Good vibes from our waiter who seemed to be still warming up for the evening. Bummed my ginger ale was just a 4$ can of Canada Dry.
I'll call it gentrification Ramen. Not bad but I'm used to more traditional Ramen. They only give you like 3 ingredients in the Ramen. Smh. Pork/chicken mix broth which I don't prefer. Like why not separate them as well. Too much broth not enough noodles cause they want you to buy some. Noodles were stuck together for one order. Buns are $5 each which should be like $4 each or $8 for an order of 2 cause they're very small. Drinks were good. Service was also good. But overall I've had much better Ramen.
Simple menu but good quality ramen. I ordered the miso wth yellow noodles, an egg, fried tofu and a piece of meat as my additions. I went a weekday before their first closing at 3 and my main complaint was that the soup wasn't hot enough. Maybe coz they were about to close? But I would've enjoyed it more if it had felt freshly heated through. The fried tofu was the most surprising part of the meal.
Chuko is great! Cozy and warmth space just like a ramen is when you eat it in the winter. They have different types of ramen and I tried the Miso one. Also, please have the Kale Salad, it is just unbelievable. They have also 3 types of sake you can have in a cup or in bottles of 300ml or 750ml. Otokoyama is definitely the best choice and it’s not the most expensive. Brooklin just got verter to me because of this place ☺️
this place is bomb I loved my ramen but I do think its crazy to pay an additional $5 for an egg? the prices should be more fair but the food was so good I will still go back.
Went for dinner on a week night! They had 3 different ramen styles and a decent amount of appetizers. Got pretty packed around 630. They had a nice bar seating area and table options. The ramen was good and had lots of add on options!
Chuko is a nice restaurant in a Crown Heights corner in Atlantic Ave. The ambient is nice, with the open kitchen bringing the patrons more into the food experience. Decor could use and upgrade. Service was good and polite. The food was overall good quality, but didn’t wow me. The crispy brussels sprouts with fish sauce and peanuts were tasty, and the ramen itself had tasty well seasoned parts, but the broth could use a little more flavor to me. They could also invest a small dessert menu.
Boy do I wish this restaurant had been here when I used to live in the apartment right above it years ago!! On second thought, I probably would have gone broke! Want great ramen? Look no further folks, this place is simply delicious! Their house made hot sauce is MAGICAL (trust me on this), the unassuming kale salad was extraordinary, the chili soy wings YUM!, and the kimchi ramen? Let's just say that I can't wait to eat it again and again and again. The shrimp and pork buns were good but not super memorable (definitely add the house-made hot sauce to elevate them) and the service was excellent. Overall a great experience close to home and a place I'll be returning to more than once for sure.
Great food. But if there's even one loud table then the whole restaurant is listening to that conversation. Also, they now really nickel and dime you here. Instead of just raising the prices a couple bucks you have to manually add everything to the ramen order so it winds up costing you a whole lot more than it used to. I realize there's been inflation but I feel like they went a little too far on prices. Very important! They place a surcharge on the use of a credit card. So bring cash if you can.
I’m so bummed to have to update this review. Since our last visit, the prices have increased by an insane amount. Ramen base plus an egg and protein will bring you to $30. Kids meals are no longer reasonable—the buttered noodles have doubled in price and if you add a protein, you now have a $20 kids meal. I get the pressure on restaurants with inflation, staffing costs and rent, but this price point is a bit ridiculous for this tier of ramen. To put into context, Ippudo still offers a ramen with protein for less. I hope they do a recalibration one of the best ramen places in NYC. The kimchi ramen is a favorite, as is the miso ramen. Brussels sprouts are also fantastic. They are also very kid-friendly with reasonably priced options (not always a given even in this neighborhood)
Ordered to go since we live around the corner. Garlic sesame ramen was tasteless and the kimchi ramen was fine. Not spicy at all which could be a plus. The steamed chicken is juicy and cooked well. May be better if you dine in but do not recommend takeout.
Update six years later - still busy spot. the menu has not changed much. Due to inflation: the ramen base is $20. The poached egg now is $5. Two pieces of roasted pork is $5. One ramen 🍜 with a draft beer with tip, looking at $40/person. From the presentation of that ramen, it’s just not IT! Original - My first impression of this place was, "Hmm, it’s cozy." I loved the lighting, and the music playlists were good. The space was definitely small, and I felt that it was hard for me to get out of my seat. I was scared that I would knock down things from other tables, especially during winter with big jackets. The service was alright. They have a few signature ramens. One of them is miso ramen with cabbage and pumpkin in it. Your order is the basic option, and you need to add toppings, which cost extra—like around $1.50 (I'm not 100% sure on the price) for a poached egg or a piece of roast pork. A bowl of ramen with meat and egg easily goes up to about $20, not including tax and tip. I think that was a little too much. If you only want to satisfy your ramen craving, this would be a bit on the luxury side. My friend and I went on a Sunday, and it was snowing, but the place was still packed. There was a 30-minute wait for two people. If they let you make a reservation, definitely do so. After all, if you have the money to indulge, go for it! It offers solid ramen and a nice environment. Plus, the neighborhood it's located in has great stores: vintage thrift shops, a classic bookstore, and Ample Hills Creamery... It made for a great day, all set!
great service, amazing staff, good atmosphere but the ramen is incredibly mid. broth is average at best and the noodles are also okay. can’t comment on the rest of the menu (apps, etc). i’ve been here twice (four years apart) and there are better spots in brooklyn. will probably not return.
This joint is where u love the decor, vibe, service is not bad and walked out feeling ripped off by the food. Part of being gripped by the hipster trend where you pay for everything you need to add to your ramen. I love the broth (garlic broth) but it comes with nothing but noodle, sliced wood ear mushrooms and scallion for a price I can have with a full bowl of ramen that includes the two slices of pork at most of the top rated ramen joints in the city or Brooklyn. Anyhoo, I can say I’ve tried, liked but will not come back again. Cheers.
I came here for dinner on a Sunday night with my friend. We had one of the 1st reservations of the evening as they're only open for dinner. Ambiance is cute but not anything special except I did enjoy the open kitchen to view the cooking staff in action. The staff was nice but I felt a bit rushed throughout my eating experience. It's a good place to come for a quick bite but not to linger. I ordered the sesame garlic ramen with an added soy egg and cilantro and it was OK. My friend ordered the same except no cilantro and she added the tofu, which she overall loved. For me, the broth wasn't too flavorful and maybe it's my fault for ordering too little, but it didn't feel like a full meal. But the soy egg was bomb and the noodles had a good texture. If you eat meat/seafood then it'll prob be a better dining experience for you.
A veryyyy overpriced bowl of Ramen. We ordered the chili wings (great), the Sesame Garlic ramen with wheat noodles, and the Miso Ramen with curly noodles. Charging a boiled egg as a $5 protein is criminal. The ramen is good, not mindblowing - at $30 a bowl, it's a tough sell. Atmosphere is nice and has a neighborhood feel. Bar seating is a plus.
Not worth the price tag. Nothing bad to say about the food or service, but it’s way too expensive for what it is. For context, meatless (and eggless) ramen is $20. Meat and a boiled egg are an extra $5 a piece. So for a “standard” ramen bowl be ready to fork over $25-30 + tax&tip. For that price tag, I’d expect a higher quality product.
Excellent vegetarian ramen. Love that they have a variety of vegetarian ramen and each is super flavorful and unique. Not watered down at all. Went in to restaurant and ordered pick up but half my order was forgotten. Tried calling for 20 min and no one answered the phone. Only was able to get a hold of them by placing an order on door dash and leaving a message in the notes section of that order. Ultimately was able to order the rest of my meal but was a huge inconvenience. Hopefully they figure out a system to be more responsive because their food is awesome and I intend to return.
really used to love this spot but prices raised to $5 per protein is crazy. I’m a vegetarian and I’d like a couple slices of tofu and 1 egg with my ramen to make it a full meal- now it’s a $30 bowl of veggie ramen which is a tough sell😭 huge bummer to see.
We were so shocked to see the new prices on the menu that we left before ordering. I used to come here to get a great bowl of ramen with the usual toppings, meat, and an egg add-on for $18-20. The price has skyrocketed to $30 for the same order. Lots of great ramen places in this city with better prices. Unfortunately I can't recommend coming here unless something changes - the value just isn't there.
I used to love this place. I came back after a few years away and was sad to see the price go up and no longer include almost all the toppings, egg and protein. If you order a ramen with no add ons, it will look sad with cabbage?! And maybe nori? Idk super disappointed. Also the server was wearing maybe half the bottle of cologne and that messed with my smell and taste. I ordered the kimchi ramen and the topping included cabbage lol - kimchi is already cabbage?? By the time I added all the things that used to come with the ramen it was $32 for a bowl that used to be $16-$18. shrinkflation is annoying and lost a customer since 2011. I used to tell everyone I met that this was the best ramen. Weird how people get used to things like this and don’t realize there’s better and cheaper elsewhere in the city!
Really good service! In the other hand, the build-your-own type menu is kindda odd for a ramen spot. Plates are rather dull in color and not very exciting. Every soup can be made vegetarian which is definitely a plus for the veggie eaters out there, on the other hand, the actual soup is not extremely tasty. The place has a very nice vibe and is visually very welcoming to the guest. Due to the nature of the menu, this ends up being a very expensive place for what it is, definitely not planning to spend that much.
9.9.17 - not a bad Ramen spot, but basic. The Pork Ramen is nice and thick, whereas the chicken is a bit light. Skip the steamed chicken and go for the pork belly and ground pork. The wings are pretty good, too. All in all, it's not bad for a neighborhood spot, but it's not a destination Ramen place, which is how it should be.
2024: Sesame Garlic and Soy ramen broths arrived cold and both were way too salty to eat. Disappointed. Will be passing on Chuko delivery from now on. 2018: Been going since they opened the original/previous location and it's been consistently delicious every time. Especially love the veggie broth ramen. Broth is thick and yummy and is one of the best ramen broths I've tasted, veggie or not. Noodles are either the standard curly ramen noodles or some dishes come with the straight kind. Brussels sprouts side is also delicious. An all time fav. Small menu. Cute/casual place. Long waits.
Miso ramen didn't taste of miso at all... Noodles and cabbage both tasted undercooked. I won't be going back. Really wish this was a better experience.
Highly suggest not ordering take out from here. The service has deteriorated over the years to a shameful level. There’s always something missing and then you can’t even reach an actual person. The information provided by the number listed on the receipt says leave a message but then the mailbox is full! Anyway, the most recent atrocity occurred when we ordered three ramens but they only sent two broths! This isn’t cheap ramen either. So we are stuck with cold noodles and splitting two dishes three ways. Strongly suggest ordering somewhere else.
i had always wanted to try this place, but i was gravely disappointed by the food when i finally did. it lacked flavor, and as another review mentioned, the ramen was pretty mid. that said, the staff was very sweet and helpful, and the service was fast. i'd be open to trying it again in the future -- hopefully the food improves!
50% price increase is crazy even considering inflation. $30 for a bowl of noodles in broth and virtually no toppings included.
It’s been over two days since I ate at this restaurant, and I still feel like I was robbed. Located next to the railroads and busy Atlantic Avenue, the ambiance and service were good for the $17 price of a bowl of ramen. However, the content was underwhelming. The bowl came with only wood ear mushrooms, fermented vegetables, and noodles—no protein at all. Essentially, it was a vegetarian dish served in pork bone broth. To get both pork and egg, you’d have to pay an additional $3, bringing the total to $20. Given the location and the lack of a strong flavor profile, the ramen felt like poor value. I will say that the broth was balanced and not overly salty, which was a plus. The pork bun, on the other hand, was reasonably priced and had more ingredients than the ramen. Overall, I’d recommend skipping this place if you’re willing to travel for better options like Danbo or Ichiran, which offer much more satisfying ramen experiences.
Used to be my fav ramen in the city. They raised prices massively and now nickel and dime you on the add-ons. $5 for a single soy marinated egg is insane.
My colleague and I had to attend an offsite training nearby and were looking to find something nearby to lunch and he googled and found this ramen place within 0.2 miles walking distance from where we were. We ordered two bowl of ramen, one soy ramen and one miso ramen. Surprisingly there were no meat (Japanese roasted pork or cha siu) to come with ramen and they somehow served as side order and cost $1.50 per a piece of roasted pork, and one pouched egg also cost another $1.50. The miso ramen used yellow original ramen noodle, with butternut squash and cabbage and not the usual ingredients used for Japanese Style ramen, the soup base was just fair. My colleague ordered a soy ramen with buck wheat noodle, scallion and nori, and he said it’s too oily for the soy ramen. He paid over $37.00 for 2 bowl of ramen for lunch and this is pricey for this neighborhood.
Seriously - I’m lacking the words. After 1.5hrs wait what was supposed to be 45min, we got freezing cold ramen with one bowl 15$ for noodles and half pint soup, nothing else. The other bowl was 22$ with a bunch of extras, equally cold, they forgot half of it. The spicy garlic had no garlic. And... see the picture, this is chukos Interpretation of 3$’s worth of chashu pork, that isn’t even included in the 15$ base price. One. freaking. bite. Your guys business practices are ridiculous.
Charged my credit card twice, but of course there's no way to get ahold of anyone at the restaurant, so I just had to call the card company and contest the second charge. Won't be going back.
So unbelievably disappointing. We ordered via Postmates and when our 2 ramens and tots arrived, the noodles were cold. Not just like cold from being outside, but refrigerator cold. Then I see this piece of paper stapled to the bag instructing us to literally heat the food. Cooking dinner was quite literally the opposite of what I was trying to do tonight. Nevertheless, I heated up the ramen. Turns out, it's also just really bad. Super bland, even after adding salt, there is absolutely no intrinsic flavor. Might I also add that it's exorbitantly expensive. The ramen shows a base price of $17 but to add literally anything to it (scallions, meat, egg) it's a few dollars on top. The tots were $13 and got about 10 tots and ironically were too salty. Geez. I am super confused as to how this place has gotten any hype, perhaps it's old hype and things have changed but this place is not good. There is no love or thought put into the food or the customer experience. Handing over ice cold noodles that you definitely parsed out earlier in the day or week does not make your customers feel like you care at all about what you are doing. This place needs an overhaul: new broth, new system for takeout and better meat supplier.
This is for the Chuko at Terminal C LaGuardia but I assume the two are similar. You have to sit and scan the QR code and order online. I didn’t know I had to ask for the roll to be cut and they didn’t add sesame seeds. I sent it back to be cut. The cucumber was so large and very hard it hurt my gums. I won’t be back.
They charge your credit card With a predetermined tip Before serving your food. Waitress was good but the older manager lady actually told me to change seats before I was finished eating. She was very rude about it too, trying to seat a family of 4 that was coming in. She kept pointing at another seat without apologizing. The food was sub par. Not good. I suggest you go somewhere else. Part of the menu was not available.
