Pricey but worth it. It's hard to not kick yourself after spending $25 on a bowl of ramen, but I'm not mad. The noodles were fresh and perfectly chewy, the broth was delicious, and it was a perfect spicy bowl of comfort on a cold day. My friend got a pork bun and said it was delicious as well. We shared a bottle of sake, which completed the entire experience. We went for dinner on a Monday night and were sat immediately. I advise arriving before 7pm if you have more than 2 people and don't want to wait.
This place is amazing. I remember them located across the street or it might be something else. The space is big and opens late. The food is delicious especially the chicken wings. Food is good. Too bad we ate beforehand but we end up order for half of the table and the ramen is amazing. Great flavor and well made. Service is great. Food came pretty quickly and we appreciate they are understanding that some of us ate beforehand.
Amazing broth, thick and flavorful. I got the kimchi ramen and I’d highly recommend it :) Brussels sprouts were delicious too. They will sit you when your party is there, or they can put you on a waitlist (your full party might need to also be there). Came on a Tuesday night at 7:40pm and was seated within 10min. Staff was wonderful and friendly.
I had the extremely rare opportunity to be in Brooklyn, near the Barclay's Center on Thursday, 3/22/18 around lunchtime, so I took that opportunity to try someplace new. I googled "food near me" and "best food in Brooklyn" and both times Chuko came up. Its only a few minute walk from the Barclay's so I decided to go check it out. When I arrived, it wasn't open yet because it was only 11:45am and they don't open until noon. It was very cold standing out front for 15 minutes and I was hoping they would open the doors a little early and let me in, but they didn't. Oh well, the food was worth the wait. I started off by ordering a steamed pork bun. It was definitely the best pork bun that I've ever had. The pork was a thick slab of soft and juicy pork belly, with pickled carrots and cucumbers and chili mayo on a soft and warm bao bun. Excellent!! For my ramen, I went with the pork bone broth, soft egg and roasted pork. I've only had ramen at two restaurants on Long Island, but this blew them both out of the water! The broth was amazing, there were a ton of noodles in the bowl, the mushrooms were flavorful, the egg was poached perfectly and the pork was more of the soft, tender, delicious, thick sliced pork belly that was also in the bun. My only complaint is that I wish there was more pork in the bowl! Getting into Brooklyn isn't easy, but is definitely worth it to go to Chuko! I can't wait to have the exact same order the next time I'm there!!
this place is bomb I loved my ramen but I do think its crazy to pay an additional $5 for an egg? the prices should be more fair but the food was so good I will still go back.
Went for dinner on a week night! They had 3 different ramen styles and a decent amount of appetizers. Got pretty packed around 630. They had a nice bar seating area and table options. The ramen was good and had lots of add on options!
Chuko is a nice restaurant in a Crown Heights corner in Atlantic Ave. The ambient is nice, with the open kitchen bringing the patrons more into the food experience. Decor could use and upgrade. Service was good and polite. The food was overall good quality, but didn’t wow me. The crispy brussels sprouts with fish sauce and peanuts were tasty, and the ramen itself had tasty well seasoned parts, but the broth could use a little more flavor to me. They could also invest a small dessert menu.
Boy do I wish this restaurant had been here when I used to live in the apartment right above it years ago!! On second thought, I probably would have gone broke! Want great ramen? Look no further folks, this place is simply delicious! Their house made hot sauce is MAGICAL (trust me on this), the unassuming kale salad was extraordinary, the chili soy wings YUM!, and the kimchi ramen? Let's just say that I can't wait to eat it again and again and again. The shrimp and pork buns were good but not super memorable (definitely add the house-made hot sauce to elevate them) and the service was excellent. Overall a great experience close to home and a place I'll be returning to more than once for sure.
A veryyyy overpriced bowl of Ramen. We ordered the chili wings (great), the Sesame Garlic ramen with wheat noodles, and the Miso Ramen with curly noodles. Charging a boiled egg as a $5 protein is criminal. The ramen is good, not mindblowing - at $30 a bowl, it's a tough sell. Atmosphere is nice and has a neighborhood feel. Bar seating is a plus.
Not worth the price tag. Nothing bad to say about the food or service, but it’s way too expensive for what it is. For context, meatless (and eggless) ramen is $20. Meat and a boiled egg are an extra $5 a piece. So for a “standard” ramen bowl be ready to fork over $25-30 + tax&tip. For that price tag, I’d expect a higher quality product.
Excellent vegetarian ramen. Love that they have a variety of vegetarian ramen and each is super flavorful and unique. Not watered down at all. Went in to restaurant and ordered pick up but half my order was forgotten. Tried calling for 20 min and no one answered the phone. Only was able to get a hold of them by placing an order on door dash and leaving a message in the notes section of that order. Ultimately was able to order the rest of my meal but was a huge inconvenience. Hopefully they figure out a system to be more responsive because their food is awesome and I intend to return.
really used to love this spot but prices raised to $5 per protein is crazy. I’m a vegetarian and I’d like a couple slices of tofu and 1 egg with my ramen to make it a full meal- now it’s a $30 bowl of veggie ramen which is a tough sell😭 huge bummer to see.
We were so shocked to see the new prices on the menu that we left before ordering. I used to come here to get a great bowl of ramen with the usual toppings, meat, and an egg add-on for $18-20. The price has skyrocketed to $30 for the same order. Lots of great ramen places in this city with better prices. Unfortunately I can't recommend coming here unless something changes - the value just isn't there.
I used to love this place. I came back after a few years away and was sad to see the price go up and no longer include almost all the toppings, egg and protein. If you order a ramen with no add ons, it will look sad with cabbage?! And maybe nori? Idk super disappointed. Also the server was wearing maybe half the bottle of cologne and that messed with my smell and taste. I ordered the kimchi ramen and the topping included cabbage lol - kimchi is already cabbage?? By the time I added all the things that used to come with the ramen it was $32 for a bowl that used to be $16-$18. shrinkflation is annoying and lost a customer since 2011. I used to tell everyone I met that this was the best ramen. Weird how people get used to things like this and don’t realize there’s better and cheaper elsewhere in the city!
Really good service! In the other hand, the build-your-own type menu is kindda odd for a ramen spot. Plates are rather dull in color and not very exciting. Every soup can be made vegetarian which is definitely a plus for the veggie eaters out there, on the other hand, the actual soup is not extremely tasty. The place has a very nice vibe and is visually very welcoming to the guest. Due to the nature of the menu, this ends up being a very expensive place for what it is, definitely not planning to spend that much.
9.9.17 - not a bad Ramen spot, but basic. The Pork Ramen is nice and thick, whereas the chicken is a bit light. Skip the steamed chicken and go for the pork belly and ground pork. The wings are pretty good, too. All in all, it's not bad for a neighborhood spot, but it's not a destination Ramen place, which is how it should be.
They charge your credit card With a predetermined tip Before serving your food. Waitress was good but the older manager lady actually told me to change seats before I was finished eating. She was very rude about it too, trying to seat a family of 4 that was coming in. She kept pointing at another seat without apologizing. The food was sub par. Not good. I suggest you go somewhere else. Part of the menu was not available.
